Well, you know how that goes:
Newt Gingrich hinted this week that his presidential campaign could come to an end soon, but regardless of what happens in Tuesday’s five-state primary, Gingrich will not use his election-night speech to drop out of the race, a spokesman for his campaign told Yahoo News.
No this is his last shot at talking about his “fiscal conservative” credentials, that only he can stop government waste (hence Barack Obama = “Food Stamp President”). Behold his valiant battle:
His think tank went bankrupt. His campaign is $4.3 million in debt. He doesn’t hold a prayer of beating Mitt Romney, something he has all but conceded. And yet since March 6th, the Secret Service has honored his request for protection at a cost to taxpayers of roughly $40,000 a day (or, to translate that into a metric Newt might favor, enough to supply 13,333 people a day with food stamps).
As noted here, there are guidelines to qualify for Secret Service protection — but not really any for ending it, as long as you are technically still in the race.
Newt is going to stay on his last gravy train as long as he can.

In the general scope of government spending, $40,000. per day isn’t much. But since these candidates are already bought and paid for by corporate interests and moneyed elite, they should pick up the tab for their protectiion.
Newt needs the Secret Service penumbra. It does wonders for his mojo, and gives him and his assistant that all-important “heads-up” when Callista’s approaching.
It does help with book sales to have one agent dressed as an elephant to promote Calista’s book. It’s also more undercover.
Who would expect a pachyderm to be packing? Let’s face it, at this point, this is a book tour not a Presidential campaign. AmIright?
The descent into old age terrifies a serial philanderer, facing the yawning abyss of monogamy. Cold and lonely in the deep dark night, Newt will no longer see paradise by the dashboard light.

LMAO! You think he was running to pick up women? Well it certainly makes more sense than my theory, which was that he was fund raising, not running for president, in light of his campaign debt.
It always confused me why the campaigns don’t have to pick up the SS tab. I suppose, given that campaigns still owe money LONG after they’re gone, it was decided that the SS tab was a form of public financing everybody could agree upon.

The difference between a Liberal and a Conservative is that no matter how vile or reprehensible the behavior, a conservative defends another conservative while a Liberal has the intellectual honesty to defend or condemn, based on evidence, not on party affiliation. Thanks for illustrating that point over and over shooter. Let’s take Zimmerman vs Edwards. Shooter has done nothing but reflexively and vociferously defend Zimmerman while there are no Liberals defending Edwards. Not one.
I have to wonder if he’s still going to be as in demand next year. I’m thinking his star is fading, his sugar daddy is no longer interested, and the tea party is nothing if not fickle.

I’m NOT “defending” Edwards, either. What he did was wrong in terms of his hanky-panky with Reille Hunter, albeit it STILL remains to be seen whether he broke the laws vis campaign contributions, etc. I simply don’t know about that.
Interesting to note that the PTB “threw the book” at Edwards, but they did no such thing with John Ensign. Hmmmmm…. what bias does THAT show?? And how much “media” time has been spent on Ensign v. Edwards??? Interesting questions, those…
But oddly enough, those liberals/Democrats who did support Edwards’ run for POTUS were pretty much ALL disgusted with his execrable behavior, esp in light of his wife’s medical status. With John Ensign AND Newt Gingrich???? Their supporters were not that “upset” by their egregious behavior; certainly didn’t have the slightest bit of “upset” when serial adulterer, Newt, unceremoniously dumped his first wife *as she was coming out from under anethesia for breast cancer surgery.* Hey: IOKIYAR.
