If i’m the prosecutor, I am now worried that even if I bring charges he may not be competent to stand trial. Further, unless he’s maintaining contact with the police, I’d consider him a flight risk.

So far as I know, they haven’t issued a warrant. So the police at least think they know where he is.

But it seems a bit early to make such a move, given that Zimmerman hasn’t been charged and might not be.
