About Firedoglake
g’evening peeps — hope everyone had a great day today
Yogi! Hi Suz!
hey newton — it had been a while since i featured yogi and his litte pal booboo. how ya doing tonight?
Well, thank you. Had a productive day.
How are you and Jen progressing?
jen had a good day — she, mike, jujube and steph were out for most of the afternoon and brought me home dinner from olive garden. i made MET calls with the team while everyone was gone.
Hi Suzanne and newton. Foggy but pleasant day on the south central coast. A bit of rain tonight. I am looking forward to some sunshine.
Hey, Suze! Newton! Look, I’m awake!
180-degree flip…this last week, I fell asleep by or before 10 pm. Waking up before the alarm goes off.
Weird, huh?
hey dearie — portland officially broke the all time record for wettest march today. i am looking forward to some sunshine too.
how ya doing tonight?
Hey peeps driving by and waving hello to all the LLN Pups ☺ ☺ ☺
Sleep well when ya git there….
tejan! how goes the new job?
Hiya, Dearie.
We got intermittent biblical rainshowers, which disappeared in a snap, revealing bright sunshine. It was strange being out and about in it.
hey nahant — was good making calls with ya today. sleep well dood
tonights cartoon was released on the same day my little (and only) brother was born
True. Swear to God. I looked at that quickly and thought it said “Genital Genie.” Not lying. Now. What, if anything, does that say about me?
hey bfl — that you are a red-blooded american male? how ya doing tonight?
Was a milestone to be able to make them and sure was fun talking to those I did reach… They sure want to talk yer ear off.. But hey I am good at that ☺
tis good that you were feeling well enough to make them — that crud you had sure laid ya low for a long time…
We had wimpy rain but heavy fog. It’s all good for me….I’ve had my sprinkler system off for a couple of weeks.
Gave son-in-law a break this morning…. my daughter and I took the twins up to my dad’s place so they could see how “their” tomato plants are growing and also play with the cars my dad bought for them. The JOY my dad gets from these little great-grandboys is just divine. The fact that the boys have a great-granddad seems to please the boys. These weekly visits are good for everyone!
the boys are gonna love watching their plants get bigger and bigger — its gonna be wonderful when they finally get to eat one of their tomatoes fresh off the vine…gonna need to have your camera ready
Not just me but all three of us.. Wouldn’t wish that even for Mittens and his morphing positions daily.. He changes with every zip code…
saw a tweet tonight that had this barney frank quote:
The kids were tickled because my dad hung little tags on each tomato with a boy’s name…..and asked them to help water ‘their’ tomato. They were so proud and did a great job. Lovely.
TRUTH!!!
awwwww no confusing whose plant belongs to who now…
truthiness just-us and the (new) american way — i liked the old saying better
doin’ ok. haven’t been asking about you. i figure you answer the question about your progress multiple times, so….. and i assume you’re progressing–slower than you’d like, but progress nonetheless. hopin’ the good days (far) outnumber the bad ones.
passed the halfway point on wed – 6 weeks down and 6 weeks to go
But but where is he when we need him????? I know of a bunch of RW Fanatics that could use a visit…
i’m not so bat-shit stir crazy today — steph is going to take me out tomorrow and we are not going to the doctors (only other times i’ve been outta the house other than one trip to the old house to get mail). we may try to find a hair salon so i can get my hair cut or may just go get lattes and maybe lunch or something.
That is for sure true. A blessing for all.
Suze–the new job: hectic, but mostly fun; exhausting. We moved the office this weekend. Well, I only participated a few hours this afternoon; took advantage of the break to sleep several hours yesterday afternoon. In the a.m., I covered a couple cases for the boss…nothing more than announcing at docket calls and requesting resets. Criminal cases; so I was back in old haunts in the county courthouse. Last election pretty much all the Dem judges were swept out and replaced with Repubs, so I didn’t know either judge or their staff, although the courtrooms were familiar.
Have done several immigration hearings now..the only substantive one was a bond hearing, which is to say to request a bond or reduction of one. Have made three trips to Pearsall’s detention center to meet with two clients and do hearings, 110 mi round-trip. Very tiring, but my stamina is improving.
And I no longer have trouble sleeping. *g*
Going to El Paso for real on Monday; can’t get there directly by plane. Leave at 8 a.m., go to Dallas, which is north. El Paso is southwest. From Dallas to El Paso. Evening, leave EP for Houston, Houston to San Antonio. Get home at 10:05 pm, if on schedule. That is, plane arrives then. Get to my home elevenish?
Will also meet with a couple clients of a lawyer who handled the first hearing of the client I’m going for; they are to have collected some documents and I will get them and bring them back for him.
Tuesday morning I plan to be rather late to work. *g*
they would not want him — that old school pre-9/11 thinking yanno
so you are transforming from recovering lawyer to lawyer at a good pace for ya?
wow. alot of travelling. that’s why i like to write briefs so much. i can just put a sign on the office door that says “piss off,” close it and do work.
I guess so. ; ) It’s a rapid pace…I could use a little slower pace. Need more sleep! It’s a weird feeling…in many ways all this running around, hectic-ness, trying to keep up, learn the subject, handle live clients, and the physicalness of it all, is just what I wanted to avoid.
At the same time, I loathe jobs like the ones I did the last few years, “chained” (by a phone cord) to a desk for hours at a time, regimented in how often one could go to the bathroom, or anything else, eyes always on the clock, sitting, sitting, sitting; talking, talking, talking.
I love just being able to get up and move from room to room in the office. Have been taking the stairs whenever possible, and whereas a month ago, walking a block was almost more than I could manage (lost muscle tone and strength in that month of coughing), now I’m doing 3 blocks with hardly a thought.
Still some concerns, but some are being addressed, and some more will have to be in future. I’m more optimistic than they can be handled; hoping so. Meanwhile, work to do.
I will come back to an office of my own with a door that closes! Yay. The old office was small and crowded, not enough desks. That will be remedied by the new one, maybe triple the size, newly remodeled and painted in a renovated century-old building in a reviving downtown neighborhood, couple blocks from the Alamo, and therefore, restaurants, hotels, etc.
Niters POOF!!… ☺ ☺
I’d have been glad to do that, but despite my clerking years for a magistrate (certainly not the cachet of clerking for a district judge, let alone appeals court, but I did lots of researching and writing), couldn’t ever find such a job. No networking skills, no help from the ex-judge.
OTOH, when doing that job, I often fell asleep over the research. I do like the running about…up to a point.
There’s never a happy medium, is there?
yay for walking and double triple yay for an office door that closes! when i was in detectives my second go round, we were in the new building and in cubicles. my first 3 year go round i shared an office with a door that closed with vinnie who was a great office mate. in the cubicle farm, my cubicle buddy was stick — who is now retired and the harmonica player in tank half full. he visited here the night i featured their music — we had lotsa good blues conversations over that cubicle divider
g’nite nahant
Suze, I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling a little less stir-crazy. Hope you enjoy your day out tomorrow. Hang out in the sunshine (assuming you have some)
Naturally, since our office was moving, working in un-air-conditioned locations at both ends (weekend, y’know), it reached 87 degrees today.
weather doodette said it is gonna rain tomorrow so that will have to factor in… since i use a wheelchair when out of the house and haven’t gotten my handicapped placard from the dmv yet it may limit what we do. i swear at this point we could drive up to the drive up coffee shack down the road and then just drive around drinking my latte and steph’s smoothie and i would be a happy camper.
no airconditioning is gonna blow in the summer tejan — or is it just no a/c since its a weekend?
since tomorrow is april fools day, i think i am going to completely avoid the twitter machine… gonna be dayam hard to figure out what is foolery and what is truthiness and what it the truth
Yeah, cubicle happiness depends a lot on who your neighbors are, doesn’t it?
It’s been so many years since I had an office of my own…
My confidence is returning…I can hear my voice being more assertive outside of work, too. That’s a good feeling.
Now, if I could just find time to clean my apartment…have barely even cooked. I think I’m gaining weight again already because of irregular mealtimes…this I gotta fix somehow. Oh well.
Believe it or not, I’m pretty sleepy. Better head off to bed. Wanted to stay up tonight though and say hi to all the LLN’ers, and especially to Suze. I’ve missed y’all…didn’t even realize that CE had been to HI and back, and I missed it all.
so, niters for me, too.
No, no, just ’cause it’s the weekend and turned off.
nope. never. i just hate the travel. not long distance travel, either. i mean into court and back to the office, traffic…. yuck.
get someone in to clean once or twice a month tejan — you deserve it
g’nite tejan
never bthought of that. good idea. not a problem for me since i’m not tweeterized.
night, TJ
Heh. Well, I hate traffic, too, which is why when I was on my own years ago, I had an office a block from the courthouse. We’ll just be a few blocks away now. But the rest…it gets tiring, but it’s fun, too. I actually kinda like running up and down the staircase in the courthouses, acting like I belong there, know what I’m doing, etc.
city traffic is the worst — tis one thing i did not miss at all when i was living out in the country. and since i’m still not driving, i’ve not really had to deal with it now that i’m in the ‘burbs
i finally tweeterized to help spread the lake’s posts since we have that handy button up top of each post. now i’m a tweeting fool with over 33,000 tweets but alas, only 578 followers.
578 sounds like alot to me. i don’t really know anything about it except that atheletes make fools of themselves with it all the time.
(nope, not gone yet…peeked at twitter found your post on stats about falling over pets .. heh, and now your last.) Feel better, I’ve been a tweeting fool, too (until the job, how about that?)with 4300 tweets, mostly in the last year, but a mere 128 followers. See how well you’re doing?
Really, I wouldn’t want thousands of followers; I feel pretty free to say what I want to say with so few.
and now, dangit, really gotta go to bed. Even the cats think ten-ish is normal now, start following me to bedroom around then.
good night suze. good night fire pups.
the nursery rhyme lawyer song
g’nite for realsies tejan
g’nite bfl
quiet night at the lake, Suz. Happy dreams! and have fun with Steph tomorrow. She’s a peach!
thanks dearie — hope you have a great day yourself. g’nite and sleep well
guess its time for me to mosey off myself. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight — i’m looking foward to seeing what tut has on tap for sun and mon nites
g’nite all
Sweet dreams, Suz…! Sorry I’d missed ya earlier…! Occupy Hilo was busy at two public gatherings today, Aloha Uprising had strategy session and then a Community informational session for the expansion of Geothermal here…! And, last but not least, Occupy Hilo’s Occupy Foreclosure was foreclosed upon today, Sheriffs accompanied the Bank Rep and the locksmith…! Busy, busy day…!
