I have Suzanne-based information for you all-
Today, Suz visited her doctor, and the news was uniformly good.
• NO.CAST:
That’s right, braces and splints and such, but no cast!
•Bendable knee:
No more straight-legging it for our girl – her range of motion is limited by the brace, but will expand over time.
• Very, Very Happy:
Suz is ecstatic about her progress; grins are not phone-centric things, but almost.

There’s more news, but I will leave it to her to splain.

Wheee! March 1, 2012. This day will go down in history for many, many things, and now to add to them, Suze got away without a new cast!

Wonder if that means she won’t have to wait the full 12 weeks of no-weight-bearing? Kewl!

No, I’m afraid I asked her that one, and she explained that while having a range-of-motion thing going, the weight thing is non-negotiable.

Like anyone cares, but I’m fine with that. She can heal in the open air, she can get a jump on her motion and do exercises – it’s win-win-win, considering, IMO.

Okay, there is no way she will go 12 weeks without putting weight on her leg. Human nature doesn’t allow for it. Should we take bets on how long she holds out? And she will for awhile but eventually…

I…GOT A JOB!!!!

And, gulp, I start Monday! Gotta go be a lawyer again, after all. Can’t tell people I’m recovering” anymore. Nope.
Immigration law, representing folks mostly in detention, lots of asylum claims, but plenty of more regular stuff, too.
One of my main duties will be to visit/interview/represent folks at detention centers in the area. You can imagine; there are several.

We are of one mind.
With new-found freedom from casts, I don’t think I could resist.
That said: •••For once, will someone I care about please listen to your doctors, and not that little voice that squeaks, “It’ll be ok. Just one step…”

I’ve actually got to go to bed in a few. Not just practice, but by some confluence of the moon and stars, late yesterday I discovered there is an inexpensive, law-school sponsored seminar on the very subject of immigration law…tomorrow! Right here in my fair city!
So I signed up, and instead of cleaning my house or checking out my work clothes, I gotta get up and be downtown at 9:00 a.m.!
And there’s an aclu-sponnsored Happy Hour in the evening after.

I have my work cut out for me already!

woohoo tejan!!! that’s such wonderful news — i would do a one legged snoopy happy dance but i’m laying in bed after taking a pain pill and don’t trust this brace enough to dare to try.

newton thanks for covering tonight — i’m forking fried. we left for the hospital at 3pm and didn’t get home until 7:15 tonight. the reason i have two braces and not a cast is that i have a pressure sore on my heel that the docs want exposed to air and where it can be observed in case it ‘opens’. right now its a black dent on my heel that is about the size of a nickle. so a bad thing — the pressure sore — became a good thing — no cast!!! i can live with that.

i don’t dare even think about putting weight on this leg. with the cast, i had a little bit of fudge factor knowing that if my foot touched down, the cast would bear the weight and not the leg. now that its gone, it would all be on the leg and after having gone through this much – no forking way am i gonna do anything that (1) extends the no weight bearing time and/or (2) forks up what the surgeon did. i do not want a repeat experience.

i’m really looking forward to sleeping more than the 2 hours at a time that i’ve been sleeping lately — dayam hard to be comfy with a straight leg cast from my toes to just under the hip.

Well highs and lows this last week.

I wrote a proposal to help some folks on the issue of guns in Starbucks, they loved it but…. no money.

The other interesting thing I did I haven’t written about yet, I still might not. But you know how I’m always talking about training people to be citizen activists? And want someone one to pay me to teach it? Well of course the right wing already is doing it. And who are they using as their teacher? James O’Keefe. The whole thing made me very depressed.

No — I’ve heard Suzzz refer to her leg, but I didn’t know the details. I recall when she told us about Jenn’s accident.

Suzanne went to Portland to nurse Jen after her accident, and watch the baby.
While there, she fell and broke her leg terribly – fibula, crushed knee joint, etc.
She had surgery more than a week later, and has been all but completely immobile for weeks.

Congrats on the #99…! Suz would be proud…! ;-)

I’ve seen some pretty gruesome things, but, one never truly gets used to it…! 8-(
