And look who comes to the rescue…but the self-described prototype.
Democrat Bob Kerrey said Wednesday that he will run for his old Senate seat from Nebraska, soon to be vacated by retiring Sen. Ben Nelson and a major target for Republicans who hope to win control of the chamber in November.
Oh hollow victories, how can we miss you if you never go away?
But wait, it gets more tragi-comedic:
“I think he would do very well with young people, and it would very exciting to see him reintroduce himself to a new generation of Nebraskans,” said Bob Shrum, a retired Democratic consultant now teaching at New York University. “He is the anti-politician and in this age of conformity and often drabness, his life story will appeal to young people.”
Oh, Bob Shrum — how de-light-ful! The “anti-politician” who cannot help but keep coming back to run for office; the 68-year old who appeals to the “young people”; the age of conformity that has started breaking down barriers against gays and lesbians (how drab) and elected a black guy who tepidly, sort of, supports some of it. All of which happened, of course, without one bit of help from Bob Kerry — the anti-politician.
But Kerrey’s a career-long deficit scold — how non-conformist.

About Firedoglake
More wars, cuts to social programs, environmental disasters, spying on amerikans, tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, outsourcing, and poor bashing. Ah yes, that utopian center, what a wonderful place.
Say goodnight, Democratic Party.
Time for Ben Nelson to cash in. Many owe him much.
“Centrist” is another word for fence-sitting, wishy-washy, unprincipled, noncommittal and cowardly follower, a person for whom taking a stand on anything requires too much intellect and is too scawey.
For a “centrist,” the idea of “rocking the boat” is anathema, even if the boat is the Titanic and rocking it would dislodge it from its iceberg. Better to go down with the ship than do anything courageous and risky to help right it.
Morning all,
Is there a country he sees we shouldn’t bomb or is he for central bombs as a centrist ?
A friendly reminder: “Don’t be evil” expired today. Take the time to be aware, and use the web accordingly.
depends on what’s on the boat
Good morning, pups. Today we have Kristof and Collins. In “Born to Not Get Bullied” Mr. Kristof says Lady Gaga wants to put an end to bullying, which is both a human rights abuse and a hindrance to education. Ms. Collins is excited because “A Big Day’s Coming.” She says March 4 is just a few days away, and she just wants to wish everybody a very happy William Henry Harrison Inauguration Memorial Day!
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a variety of bagels with cream cheese this morning. Another month shot to hell — Happy March! Have a great day.
“Centrist” = Republican who has to call him/herself a Democrat in order to get elected. MSMedia = teh stoopid.
*sigh* We need new blood, not blue blood.
I have no problem with a deficit scold, as long as they realize that the solution to a deficit is sometimes a tax increase.
Boxturtle (Kerrey *sigh*)
Aye. Or vice versa.
Boxturtle (If you have to hide your postitions, why run?)
Good morning all.
Yawn.
Let me know when Alan Simpson is going to run for office again with his appeal to the younguns.
Oh wait, that’s a different Simpson.
There is one that has been off the list so far, but you will soon be targeted.
I think they all can go. Our government is defunct.
DC is not for legislating, it’s a profiteer center.
Everything old is new again. Are there no heart stakes?
Can’t wait for that young-timer Gary Hart to seek office once more.
And the idea of Bill Clinton having a go again just makes me ecstatic.
Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow.
Bob Shrum again? Aarrrghh!!
First of all, Kerrey’s a jerk. After that there’s his murderous war crimes record, shooting bound civilians. After that, take your pick.
That would be sanctimonoious, moralizing jerk. I truly detest the pinch faced weasel for his Vietnam pedigree. But, then, there is not much connected with America’s Vietnam record that I don’t detest.
CENTRIST: (1) a specific brand of sociopath that, upon hearing Howard Zinn’s infamous “You can’t be neutral on a moving train” immediately stand up and beg to differ;
(2) the same people that upon hearing Martin Luther King remark “There’s a place in Hell reserved for those who don’t pick sides during trying times” immediately started rooting for the sniper;
(3) the same lunatics that upon hearing George Washington’s reply of “Let us have a government by which our lives, liberties, and properties will be secured, or let us know the worst at once,” immediately started to shriek in self-recognition for they were on the wrong side of the Shay’s Rebellion and knew it;
(4) the first causalities is any given civil war. (i.e. “The First To Go And The First To Know!” in Marine Corps parlance …)
Ask the “young people” at The New School what a great guy Bob Kerry is.
Someone has to fill the gap once Joe Lieberman makes his timely departure from the Senate.
I thought Lawrence O’Donnel probably needed a change of underwear after after his Kerry porn fest last night.
Andrew Breitbart is DEAD!

A glowing endorsement from Bob Shrum. Perfect.
But where is Lanny Davis?
Can I have his ruby slippers?
Could be he thinks his stint at the New School made him “new” again. Huh.
Why would you want slippers covered with dung ?
The New School; known for a century as The New School for Social Research, serving not so young students, easy to get in, hard to get out. In other words, already a very fine institution of higher learning. Jerk Kerrey changed NSSR’s name to New School, because he objected to the word “Social”. Thought it was bad marketing, but really didn’t want his name associated w/ “socialism”. Great idea for an out-of-towner. Changing the name back would be a greater idea.
Cuz I have a big hose, and I might want to go home again sometime, silly. ;-)
+1
Just to have a go at your metaphor. I believe that I have read that analysis has shown that the Titanic was designed to take the hit. The problem was that the shipyard was building two like sized ships that year and the quality of both the rivets and the riveters was spread too thin.
Correct me if you know better, but I believe that this was in part or in sum a tale of corporate greed.
Reactionaries Libermann, Snow, and Nelson are centrist moderates????? Its much worse than was feared.
Oh, for fuck’s sake it’s Bob Shrum. What do you expect?
