About Firedoglake
I’m done with using a cane.
Hi wmd
nice to hear
Aloha, newt and lln pups…! Kewl vids, newt…!
I hope Suz recovers soon.
Congrats! I know you worked hard for the freedom.
Hi Tut. I really like her ‘cool’ singing temperament.
Check out her Dad (below), when you get a moment.
Worth noting: Trixie is plagued throughout this performance with technical difficulties for which she appeals to the sound-booth (and is ignored), and still pulls of a flawless performance.
Good genes.
And, HI NEWT, nice to have you back. You are earning such points as Suzanne rests up from her ‘troubles.’
Hi Dearie!
Thank you! It’s fun, and considering the overall, seems like the least I can do.
And, hello CT, did your skies clear up? And how’s that grandbabyboy?
Still have work to do… PT on my own for a while yet.
Be here mañana. You will not be sorry.
And, not to go all political, but I have to share a funny. I hadn’t talked with my neo-con twin brother for a time, so I called him this evening. We are on such different ends of the political spectrum that we try to tread gently, and we did a mini=review of tonight’s election results. Anyhow, eventually I mentioned that Santorum had gone after JFK and was pontificating about ending birth control. Brother went berzerk! He said he’d heard the JFK nonsense, but NO WAY was Santorum talking about birth control roll backs….that was crazy…why did I make such things up?????
I guess Rush/Sean/Billo didn’t mention Santorum’s romp on birth control. What a friggin’ crazy world! End of rant.
Evening everyone.
WMD glad you are hanging in there and gettin’ around again.
Holy crap, only the folks who squeeze all of their sensory orifices closed when FAUX isn’t on could fail to recognize Senator Splat’s schtick.
And the attack on Jack: That was a colossal blunder.
Evening, tuez!
Good evening!
I was glad to see that the Catholics in Michigan seemed to go for Romney tonight…..I think the JFK rant really, really offended people. It sure offended me.
Hi Bev-
The Salon this Saturday looks great!
Thank you, once again.
Hi Tuez and BevW. Bev, it’s such fun to have you hang out with us in the dark. Any updates on how Katie is doing? And Jane? What a long day.
Imagine forcing the Catholic Bishops to choose between the preeminent Catholic in American political life, and yourself…
Rikki’s phone must have gone berserk. “Retract!”
Hey Tut, did you see this?

Thanks – fingers crossed, it will be good.
woohoo! great news wmd!!!

newton, thanks for covering tonight. now that my swelling is reducing, i’m feeling a lotta bone pain. am looking forward to seeing the doc thur (and getting to see my leg without a cast albeit only for the short time between taking this one off and putting a new one one).
trixie has some chops and comes from good musical genes… thanks for introducing me to her dood.
time for me to g’thud — thanks again newton
I’m actually in the middle of the book that is to be discussed for Sunday’s salon. I had to put it down for a couple days and think about it. At this point, it’s kinda leavin’ a bad taste in my mouth, but since I’m only half way through it..
Saw Jane today for a bit this afternoon. Katie came through the surgery well, Jane was tired. Yes a very long day. Hopefully Katie will come home tomorrow.
Hey Suz,
Bone pain is the WORST.
I feel for ya.
Howdy, Suz – my pleasure.
I’m glad you liked Trixie; here’s some more.
Hi/Bye: get some rack.
Did Jane get any news regarding Katie and her prognosis?
I haven’t read it, but it will probably bring out a certain element, I suspect.
Luckily for Santorum, he’s not interested in the Catholic vote. While technically he is Catholic, listening to his rhetoric, he’s clearly all about pandering to evangelical/dominionists. As for the JFK thing, it was a no brainer for him. JFK’s not an unpopular target among hardcore conservatives. After FDR, Clinton and Carter, he’s their favorite past President to hate. Why they don’t hate LBJ more, I have no idea, maybe they’re still afraid of him.
I hope Suzanne is already sound asleep….and also knows that she is dearly cared for by the denizens in the dark. Fun to have newt covering for her…..it’s all good. (Yes, I’ve been called a Pollyanna, why do you ask???)
Trust me when I say you are not thinking of the correct element. I have to finish the book but up to this point there is an undercurrent in it I never expected.
No, that is all I know. Jane will let everyone know.
Hi Hannibal-
The problem for little Rikki is that there is absolutely nothing to be gained by going after a fallen President. He gets only the crazies, and shit, he already has those.
What I don’t get is this: The RightWingNuts are a limited population (at least so far) and cannot win an election on their own. Why pander to them? What is the long term goal. Even my neo=con twin brother wouldn’t vote from him. As none of my RightWingRepublican relatives could bring themselves to vote for McCrazyMan. And, no, of course they did not vote for Obama…..they simply did not vote for a president in 2008.
I will take your word for it. We will know on Sunday.
I noticed when Jane wrote the diary about Katie that a whole lot of people mentioned their dogs having had cancer. I too had one die of cancer, five years ago, and the last one just up and dropped dead while I was on the phone with the vet. It made me wonder if dogs aren’t the new canary in the coal mine. What happened to the days of having to put them down due to senility or severe disabilities?
Can you give me a hint as to what you are feeling? It will make the reading and the salon more interesting. Oblique, but hinty. You know?
You may have a point there. I had to put mom’s yorkie down after she passed, he was blind, deaf, had diabetes, and became incontinent. But he was a trooper, doing the best he could until the end. (Taz is my avatar)
Cancer in dogs does seem to be some kind of warning. I wonder if anyone has done any recent studies. My childhood dogs lived to their late teens. My daughter’s fabulous/wonderful chocolate lab got a bizarre cancer at 9 and had to be assisted across the bridge, as it were. Much too young. And such a wonderful dog.
I want to get a little further into it before expressing any firm opinions about the book. The author could just be laying the foundation (well he is) and I’m picking up the wrong signals. His interpretation of historical supporting remarks, for his contentions, keep leaving me thinking I can’t read.
I love that this is in black & white-
Danger Mind
I’ll be looking for your comments in the thread. I think the Book Salons are just amazingly wonderful and bring out some really deep thinking.
evening, newt – firegods
If you have time, check to see if your local library has it. That’s where I found it.
Hi PPD
Thanks…..good advice.
The Daily Show is on in the background – how much more abuse can Romney take? He’s getting creamed. Again.
I’m so glad to hear that.
I just wanted to pop in and say hi to all, and pop back out.
(Good job, Newton!)
Night
Hi/Bye Margot!
I thought it was Santorium that was cream.
But it’s so funny! Everything Mitt says can be shown as ludicrous when a tape shows that he said the opposite at some earlier time. As Jon Stewart says, “He makes it too easy.”
Politics is wrecked forever.
Just when we need incumbents to get rigorous opposition, in comes the Clown-Car party and paves the reelect with red carpet.
And Mitt: stop.wearing.jeans.
Laughing out loud about Mitt and the jeans. Isn’t it silly! And so, so sad. A bunch of idiots pontificating. Shameful. Who could have imagined how fast this dear country would fall into inanity.
The GOP race for President: ‘A wind-sprint for the cliff.’
The reelect for President: ‘Let’s see how far Right the crazies go, and we can slide further past the middle.’
That’s why I was so puzzled by Huntsman (the only non-bald-faced liar in the bunch) jumping in. Sure, he could give Obama a race (should he get nominated), but the gauntlet to the GOP nomination is a toxic sewer of the nonsensical.
Want to ruin yourself forever? Stand close to these people while television cameras are trained on you.
A crazy, crazy time. Huntsman was on Charlie Rose the other night. Clearly he was entirely too sane for this year’s Republican Goat Rodeo.
Well, it’s been fun, newt. You do a grand job in that chair. Looks like everyone is tucked in, so I think I’ll call it a night, too. Thanks again for sharing time with us late nighters.
Thank you, goodnight Dearie
Time for me to bail out folks – thanks for visiting!
A very special, not-to-be-missed episode of Late Late Night FDL in this slot tomorrow evening, hosted by Suzanne…
Parting gift for tonight: Blind Faith live in Hyde Park, Saturday June 7, 1969
night you guys
Good night all.
And good morning all.
Hope you had a good thud…thanks for the report. Ahhh, a new cast: At least something to look forward to ;)) Feel better. I hope you’ve found some books or something to entertain your fine mind. Time gets long.
I found magazines were a pretty good treat: not too much concentration, variety of stuff I may otherwise not have been reading…Take care. BL
Looks like it’s all working now! Catch you late night…
