I see that Jack Abramoff’s and Pat Robertson’s mutual friend and running buddy is running his yap again, painting a wickedly accurate self-portrait while speaking to a group of Florida Republicans and pretending it depicts President Obama:
“So if you can’t run on your economic record, you can’t run on your foreign policy record, there’s only one kind of campaign to run,” Reed said. “And that is a scorched earth, negative, ‘tear down the Republican nominee’ campaign. And that’s all this is going to be. And they’re coming, and they’re coming with a knife in an alley. That’s what this fight is going to be like.”
Gee, Ralph, Obama hasn’t needed to lay a glove on any of these clowns as they’ve done a good enough job of trashing themselves and each other. But you knew that.
Still, it’s nice to see your projection skills are still working, Ralph. For those who don’t remember or weren’t around at the time, Ralph Reed is the guy who said this:
“I want to be invisible. I do guerilla warfare. I paint my face and travel at night. You don’t know it’s over until you’re in a body bag. You don’t know until election night.”
Such a sweetie, eh? NOT.
But I digress. Back to his speech in front of those Florida Republicans:
“There is nothing they will not do to win an election,” Reed said. “This guy is as tough and as mean and as cynical as any politician you’ll ever see. There is nothing he’s not willing to do.”
Once again, Reed’s describing himself and his allies to a T. Here’s another blast from his past:
“Ralph Reed, at the 1991 Road to Victory Conference, reiterated the organization’s emphasis on electing specific candidates to public office: ‘Folks, I really need your attention for this panel, because there probably isn’t an opportunity in this country that exceeds our opportunity this year to elect more people like Jesse Helms and Bill Dannemeyer to the United States Senate.’
“Speaking before the Montana Christian Coalition in January 1992, Reed openly advocated the defeat of U.S. Representative Pat Williams: ‘If we will move forward in unity and if we will be persistent, victory will be ours. It will be ours in Montana and it will be ours all across America … We’re going to see Pat Williams sent bags packing back to Montana in November of this year, and I’m going to be here to help you do it.’
“That’s an interesting statement, as are the others, in light of the CC claims that it is not out to ‘advocate the election or defeat of any candidate.’
“Regarding the Senate race of Jesse Helms in 1990, Ralph Reed is quoted at the 1991 Road to Victory Conference as having stated: ‘I had access to internal tracking, and I knew Senator Helms was down by eight points. So Robertson called me up and said, quote, ‘We have got to kick into action.’ Bottom line is, five days later we put three quarters of a million voter guides in churches across the state of North Carolina, and Jesse Helms was reelected by 100,000 votes out of 2.2 million cast.'”
I suspect that if Obama fought Republicans like Reed fights Democrats, we’d have had a $2 trillion stimulus, single-payer health care, and unemployment at 7% and dropping by now.
