About Firedoglake
Newt! You’re back. You like us, you really like us!
Yeeeees Dearie, it’s me again. Love you guys-
Suzanne takes a well-deserved night off, we rumble on.
Get out the dice and the whiskey!
Now I’m going for the 99……. so come on you guys, chime in!
Oh, and I saw tejan’s good news earlier. Another excuse to party (like we need one – we’re Liberals!).
Poker night. Strip poker via the internet….no skype allowed!
I shall stand aside, if the opportunity arises.
Hear that! I taped over my camera after a rather profound goof.
Won’t do that again.
I have good vibes for tejan…..I really do. Troopers all. Also glad that Suzanne is getting some rest. I am hoping her recovery is easy and steady…. and, selfish me, I look forward to some good dives in mid-summer.
In case you never saw the pictures of her old digs in Cali, let me just tell you – diving was intrepid business.
Well, you see how that standing aside works for our dear Suz. I laugh out loud. And it’s good, really!, to have a full belly laugh before bedtime. Makes for better dreams. I’m ever grateful to her.
delurking to say hi. great post last night, newt! have been out of it, but read it this morning. nice that suz has you to cover.
Just stopped by to say Hi.
Hi, BevW….. love what you do for us!
Hey Spur!
I’m glad you got in, and I’m grateful for the pups’ being all supportive.
Suzanne will be back at the helm very, very soon. Not to be missed.
You cool?
Hi Bev! You sure can put in the hours.
How’s the Eastern seaboard tonight?
Hi Dearie, my pleasure. Hope everyone had a good day, and looking forward to a great weekend.
Hey, east coast is quiet now, rainy day with a cold front coming in, I’ll miss the 70 degree winter days.
so-so; have been chasing my tail trying to get my house ready to rent. still stuck here with my 93-year-old mother, so no point in leaving it empty. and you?
Skipping to the end without reading –Hey Pups!
All is excellent here.
I had occasion to talk on the phone with Suz this afternoon. She sounds very well.
Hi, CE…… good to see you here.
Hi Chris!
great! please say hi from me if you talk to her again, and tell her to rest and get better.
Of course. I will be chatting her up again tomorrow.
How’s your mom doing? My dad is 94 and hanging in. He told me not to come up this afternoon because he had a bridge game. I love it. I’ll see him tomorrow to take him to get his new glasses and to take the greatgrandbabyboys to the nursery to buy supplies to plant the Blue Lake beans that are germinating from their experience of planting with the nicest man at the Santa Barbara Men’s Garden Club that they met at the farmers market a couple of weeks ago.
Aloha, newt and lln pups…! Just got home from Occupy Hilo’s latest GA…! We’re rallying behind this Occupy Foreclosure…! ;-)
Tuttle, beautiful work. Wow.
What’s the plan, CT, for Occupy Hilo? I’m so happy for you and for the rest of us that your group keeps truckin’.
Oh, I just saw the link. Carry on. Good on all of you!
drive-by on my way to snoozeland — newton, thanks for covering at the last minute — i really appreciate it dood
and thanks to all my lln peeps for all the good wishes and encouragement. today was not a good day but it was better than yesterday — and much of the credit for that goes to newton for covering — thank dood
i’ve got my fingers and toes crossed that dearie gets the happy lucky 99 tonight — come on peeps, lets make sure she does!
and g’thud
That is so cool!
Ain’t it kewl…? My small contribution was the plain-jane “Don’t Iraq Iran” sign out front…! Artistic, I’m not…! ;-)
Baby! my pleasure. Your crowd makes it seem, well not easy, but manageable.
Now Snooze!
The wife and I just got back from a local Natalie Cole concert. Very good stuff! Unfortunately, she didn’t sing my favorite.
{{{ Suz }}}
I had planned on calling you today but I got sidetracked … will do so early next week.
Your Chocolate Martini Drip is on its way …
Sweet dreams, Suz…! Hopefully tomorrow will be even better than today…! *g*
Wigwam !
How’s it going, eh ?
Hey wig, nice to see you in these parts!
That musta been a great show. I saw Natalie in 1977 at Cool Jazz out here. Amazing.
Petro, how goes?
I’m thirsty, too.
dearie, she’s doing fine physically but is somewhat high maintenance emotionally–though she has more of a social life than i do (not saying very much)! she hits all the drop-in dinners at the yacht club (though she has no boat) and goes to all sorts of parties, stitch-and-chats, etc. not up to gardening, though. love those blue lake beans! great that your dad is doing so well.
From Suzanne:
(((Spur)))
(((suz!)))
Newt !
Did I miss Spurious ?
It’s been one heck of a week … I’ve got Tequila for us !
:-) great to see you all! crawling off to bed, gnite
I do plan on writing a myFDL diary about it, and also our other upcoming events…! ;-)
Eat the worm, dude!
Hey Petro.
Thing are going well for me. Knock on wood. But, I’d sure like to see the economy rebound. Too many folks are suffering.
Hey Newt.
Natalie has been one of my wife’s favorites for a very long time. And, it has been on my agenda that we should make an effort to see her. So, when I saw that she was going to appear at a local theater ten minutes from home, I had to make it happen.
nite spur
Had to laugh about the “more of social life than I do”……there is such truth in that. I had really little in the way of relationship with my dad for most of my life….and after my mom died and my dad remarried, I had so little relationship that I was shocked. But step-mom died unexpectedly and Dad moved down to our area to be near my twin brother and me. It’s been a wonderfully fulfilling year. I’m really enjoying my dad’s company and am lucky to be mostly-retired and available to spend time with him. And I do get a kick out of his active life….. current events meetings every morning, bridge, a group of men who meet for breakfast every morning. And the fact that Dad is enjoying his little great-grand-sons so much just charms me. He ordered some little race cars and a track for them to play with when they come to visit him. Special!
dearie, it’s great that they can stay active, especially after they are left alone. we should be so lucky! glad everything is working out.
g’nite again, dearie, newt, petro, and everyone
sorry, newt, did I harsh your thread somehow?
good night, spurious, good to see you here at LLN.
{{{ Spurious }}}
I don’t think so.
Are you standing under a ladder in a pile of broken mirror pieces with a black cat strolling by?
It’s Friday Night, and Suzanne isn’t here. I don’t expect to get swamped :-)
Well, let’s hope for some drive in window types. It’s early yet.
Yeeeeeee-Haaaaaw!
One of my fave Muppet Show clips – When I Need Love – Leo Sayer
And you really did run up a pretty spectacular Guest Host number last night…. of course you did have cocktailhag to do lead in…..can’t beat that!
Hag’s post last night was terrific. What a fascinatingly explicit take-apart.
Good night all, time to turn in. Have a great weekend.
nite bev, thank you
Sleep well, Bev.
Oh, crap, tourists in Cabo on some cruise out of Long Beach got targeted …. not good, not good.
pulp muppets
Looking for a link now. Got one?
Nope. Just something on my nightly news……..out of LA….. no one was hurt. But, jeez, not a good sign.
All I have here is Syria, weather, and how your drivers license info can get punked at the grocery store.
Don’t know about getting punked at the grocery store…..just lucky I guess. Feel free to cut out whenever you get weary, Newt, if it turns out that it’s just you and me and lurkers don’t come out of the mist. I’m going to be watching some late news, silly stuff, and such for a while. You are the best!
Watch the French guy in the back…
Well thanks, Dearie. I’m here until they shut the lights, catching up on my own brand of silly stuff.
Sorry, I was searching for a linky on Green Cars, for PW’s LN post.
Did you see pix for Romney’s Speech in Ford Field ?
As shown on Heretic TV…
The Mahatma Freakin’ Ghandi of tolerance. Oh my.
You know what? I wouldn’t get too wound up by that bait up there.
How’s it up there in the Great White brrrrr?
ROFL … Priceless !
We didn’t get the snowstorm cuz temps stayed up. So we got lots of rain … with luck we’ll get snow next week and build that darn Snow Fort then …
temps stayed up… ok.
I wonder how that happened?
Is the PM speaking?
Bless his heart. Dontcha know. The Repubs are going to make him the sacrificial lamb anyway, but the run up to the beat down is pretty ugly. I can only say that Romney is so plastic that he won’t even notice how he’s been used. I can’t see how this benefits him in any way, since he is clearly unfit to go on the speachifying tour, but apparently he’s going to go for the gold. Whatever!
Methinks that Romney in Michigan created a Low Pressure System, which tracked over Toronto …
Mitt looks worse in jeans than I do.
Like this:

Does Mitt get to do some Southwest tour??? I can’t wait to see him in cowboy boots. It’s hard to speak badly about him….makes me feel like a bully. I know the Rs are going to …. what’s the word?…..ignite him anyway, but what a sorry run up.
He should’ve borrowed Fred Thompson’s Red Pickup … he could have held his rally in it !
Like Kerry with the goose, only slight less pander.
Gawd, that was tragic-stoopid.
Sure, if he first seeded the ‘crowd’ with paid applausers.
It’s sad, isn’t it? I don’t know how they are going to repackage him to make him palatable for the general election. He’s just a sorry excuse for a real person. Empty shell. Vapid. Purposeless.
The saddest part for me is, I wanted Obama to have a real opponent, someone who would raise a valid challenge.
There isn’t anyone, anywhere.
Or Dukakis in the tank. That was a wow-and-a-half. My old dad laughs at me because I’d still like another Eisenhower. And did you know that Eisenhower was a Jehovah Witness? I did not. I’m still following up on that piece of information. The Righties heads should be exploding.
His opposition will be the Occupy Movement … they can turn things around in a hurry, should they organize themselves across North America.
I didn’t know that, either.
Ike in a minute. In a flash.
Yes, I, too, would have liked a worthy opponent. Apparently, the PTB did not want for us to have that. Apparently The Big-O is doing their bidding and they don’t want to change horses in the middle of catastrophe. Batten the hatches, folks, we are in for the deluge.
I’m hoping this goes all the way to the Convention, and Palin, Giuliani, etc. appear, to fight for the nomination.
I’m also hoping that Apple Stocks return to double digits, so’s I can buy some … *g*
If the unions will finally chuck their present leadership and hit the streets, maybe. That’s the only way I see it happening.
The Unions are organizing, to join the Occupy movement. The Key is, they have to take pointers from the Vancouver movement …
This is the right time to get citizens involved and push real change through !
I agree completely.
They get the policies they want, they get to run AGAINST him/them: Obama is better for them, I am convinced of it.
Trashing the joint to make it even less governable, on someone else’s dime? Priceless.
The key is, they need to hurl Gerard and Trumka and their ilk to the curb.
Oh, yes, I’m all about a convention that is unconventional! I’m hoping that all four of the currents are still upright and into the rock=and-roll of it. We’ll see who finally prevails. The Rs hate Romney (well, who wouldn’t find him, shall we say, wanting?) and the rest of the candidates are ridiculous. I don’t want the Republican Goat Rodeo/Clown Car Serial Road Show to end a moment sooner than at the convention. I’m lovin’ it! Best show on reality teevee.
My only regret in this is that Obama steamrolls the country in what will probably already be a record low-turnout election.
I know. But then I hope we-the-people bring his sorry ass into line.
Amen
Hey! Nice one!
Congrats on the 99, Dearie !
Thanks, Newt, for setting me up. Suz will be so amused! I’m going to take my happy 99 and enjoy it with my grands tomorrow. And, YES, we the people will have to make Obama be better than he is when the time comes. I don’t think we could do a thing with a Sanctimonious or a Romneywaste. Maybe we can make Obama a better person. Well, hey, here’s hoping.
Hi Dearie
Gardening in the fog takes some ingenuity. Shelter from wind and keep raised beds war. You/anyone can get old shower doors and place around the beds, Winter crops like broccoli and cauliflower, kale, Chards, spinach and more do well in some shade. Sources om line.
I built a hothouse for tomatoes and have new plants going. I use a shelf inside to plant different seedlings like summer winter squash, more tomato varieties, sweet peas. Potatoes grow all winter. Just sprouted blue lake and Kentucky wonders in kitchen cabinets then made a cheap make shift green house with 3′ sticks surrounded by painters plastic to keep warm. I put old paper cups, from local coffee houses over them to keep the bugs from colonizing. You can get 3 yards of mushroom compost delivered for $100.00 bucks. Remember our friends in Alaska are growing year round. Ventura is a big AG area so you can do and solar may lose 10% in fog…ask your local solar companies.
I have a new client with whom I have had several political conversations. I have been honest about my disgust with this Executive; she believes that no matter how bad he is, the Gooper is 100 times worse. She considers herself a ‘long-time Liberal’.
I sympathize with her – she’s a nice gal and concerned as Hell. I have been kind and non-confrontational thus far. But this evening she asked me flat-out why I could not vote for Obama, and she was demanding of facts. I told her.
She did not take it well.
Thanks, BB, for the good info. I’m going to come back tomorrow and review. But now I’m going to do some wonderful dreamlife. It’s been fun.
Newt, you are the best for subbing for Suzanne, and you are doing good stuff here.
Good night all.
I sincerely hope you are right.
That 99 looks might nice on the mantle.
Thank you again, Dearie, and goodnight.
G’nite Dearie !
I’m out as well, Dude … have a great weekend !
Okay, last thought. I swore I would NEVER vote for Obama again. But I cannot imagine Sanctimonious or Romneywaste or, for gawd’s sake, Gingrich sitting in the Oval office. I don’t like Obama one bit. But I’m stymied. I still think that Occupy can have more impact on Obama than on any of the stupid Republicans. This is going to be a long, hot summer.
I am heading for a late walk in the fog. Bella Noche. We can deal with the hand we are dealt we have a lot to be happy for. Stay well.
nite petro
Once again youse guys: Thanks for stopping in and being real.
The Great Suzanne will probably be reassuming this big chair on the morrow.
Parting gift for this evening:
an absolute beauty.
nite all
word, Dearie. word.
Some of us in Alaska are up all night drivin cab. Dont think we aint watchin. Lurvs some junkies. Energy is goin towards Suz.
Good morning, pups. We have Blow, Nocera and Collins today. In “Mitt, Michigan and a Couple of Cadillacs” Mr. Blow says Mitt Romney’s miscues about his wealth and other misfires follow him to Detroit. Be that as it may, he’s still a masterpiece of the roboticist’s work. Mr. Nocera, in “A Revolutionary Idea,” says Rick Santorum’s views on the separation of church and state were discredited more than 350 years ago. Mr. Nocera doesn’t seem to have grasped the concept that Republicans believe that if you repeat the same lie 10,000 times it will become the truth. In “Republican Truth or Dare” Ms. Collins says we have new developments in the Republican presidential primaries, people! Including a shaggy cat story.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got waffles warm maple syrup. If I’m lucky we will have seen the last of the rain and I can get out back and do my Rustoleum thing on the last chair and the table. Fingers crossed… Have a great day.
yay dearie!!!
