Not involving a leather-slave and gravy condensed down to two minutes. In the State where the Civil War began (and yes, they started it) a white guy beats up on a black guy while a bunch of self-justifying and aggrieved white people cheer and boo. What could be a better image on MLK day?
Mission accomplished, Rog.
But American conservatives are not alone in their progressive thoughts:
The Queen should be given a new royal yacht – likely to cost at least £60m – as a way to help overturn Britain’s mood of austerity, according to Cabinet minister Michael Gove.
Maybe we can put Francesco Schettino in the captain’s chair?
How is this Mr. Gove not already the leader of the Tories? He and Romney would get along great.

About Firedoglake
As much as I dislike Obama for all his shortcomings, I find it amusing that Newt blames Obama for all the people on public assistance. As if it all happened when he came on the scene and Bush did not set the stage.
Don’t get me wrong, I vehemently oppose Obama and I will not be voting for him, but his piss poor job on the economy is not what is driving my dislike for the man. He is just as much bought and paid for as Newt and a very sad disappointment on every front.
If the media was actually a hedge against the powers that be, you would have expected Juan to challenge Newt on that point, but instead the big news is that he was booed for asking the question.
In all honesty, we have no choice. This government has been bought and paid for by the MOTU and there is very little we can do about it. OWS and the like will eventually be branded terrorists and will be crushed. Either by upstarts in the organization or false flag operations, OWS will not be allowed to challenge the system.
It is over.
Here we go with the audience again. It’s a wingnut culture of failure, I tells ya.
So extolling the benefits of gainful employment is racist? Who knew?
Typical Fox News a mindless freak show. Amazing how similar it is to the movie; “Idiocy”. Meaningless booing, cheering, and shouting. Slogans, phrases, that mean nothing. Pure fantasy.
The first reality show campaign, indeed, and the audience is into it. Can we have the good old fashioned gladiator thingie now? The lions can use the work.
It’s hard to feel sorry for Juan Williams as he is the reason that he’s FOX’s token.
Good morning all,
So what did the stupid rabid white wing do last night that was any different than other” debates”?
Good morning, pups. It’s Brooks, Cohen, Nocera and Bruni. Bobo went to South Carolina. Bobo went to rallies. Bobo is now the “South Carolina Diarist.” He was on a visit to South Carolina just days before the primary, getting a feel for what people on the scene are thinking about the candidates. He didn’t specify, but it surely sounds like he had most of his interactions at the Applebee’s salad bar. He also takes a gratuitous slap at the hoi polloi who parrot banalities that they’ve heard on TV. Stunning, coming from one of the Sunday morning bobbleheaads… Mr. Cohen says “Don’t Do It, Bibi,” and that temptation rises for Israel to make a terrible mistake. In “Keep It Simple” Mr. Nocera says an influential critic says banking regulations are too complex, and she offers some solutions. Mr. Bruni, in “Embracing the Pretzel,” says as Jon Huntsman exits the presidential race, he reverts back to familiar partisan hypocrisy.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a variety of bagels with cream cheese. Now I’ve got to dash — for some reason the kittehs are just crazed, tearing up and down the hall, and probably curtain climbing is next. I’d better open the door and let them carry on out in the yard. Have a great day.
Was listening to a show on CNN with him on the panel, and all the wingers were beating up on him. Like the 3 Stooges.
Thanks, Marion, that’s cute, without banalities Bobo would be just a blank space on the NYT idiotorial page.
And Williams threw over PBS so he could get beaten up by wingers and presumably make more money. Again I really can’t work up much sympathy for him. My reaction is solely based on disgust at the reaction of the crowd.
I know what you mean. Listening to Newt & company blame Obama for the damage Bush did to the economy is like listening to Moe blame Larry for the mess that Curly made. They’re all knuckleheads, but Larry at least was trying to help. :-P
It’s sad, isn’t it? The audience doesn’t even care if they appear racist bastards.
Boxturtle (These “Christians” could spend more time with the teachings of Christ)
Yes, Bush did a lot of the damage. However, Obama did little to nothing to correct it. He owns it as much as Bush does.
Boxturtle (Possibly more so: Bush is an idiot. Obama SHOULD have known better)
The claim that any able-bodied person can be employed is a myth. I don’t think any economist truly believes in zero percent unemployment and the Federal Reserve uses interest rate policy, in part, to ensure a “healthy” level of UN-EMPLOYMENT. The unstated theory of capitalists is that when unemployment gets “too low,” employers have a difficult time finding new workers, so they are forced to pay higher wages in order to keep current workers and attract new ones. This in turn causes higher inflation. I remember in early 2000 when economists said the economy was “over-heating,” which is a polite way of saying too many people are employed and, consequently, employers are being forced to pay higher wages, which in turn causes higher inflation, which in turn puts a damper on the stock market. The unemployment rate was like 3 percent in 2000 in many areas of the country, so the Fed raised interest rates multiple times during that year to stop all the hiring (much of it frantic hiring!). This is proof that our government intentionally seeks to keep people unemployed and the stock market and capitalism cannot thrive without a “healthy” level of unemployment. It is because of this that I support food stamps and welfare generally. I want to vomit when I hear the happy fascists like Gingrich claim that anybody can find a job if they really want one while tacitly supporting Fed policies that intentionally keep people unemployed.
We preempt the debates because all the candidates are the same, they have no solutions, are corrupt lying bastards, and heinous war criminals. We return to our regular coverage of the free-for-all looting and destruction of the planet by the top 3,000 greedy pigs.
Spot on. Bush broke it but Obama stored the pieces in the garage, knowing he would never get around to fixing it. Still it’s interesting that the pundits let statements assigning TARP to Obama pass unchallenged, (I don’t know if that happened last night but it has occurred plenty in the last two years), as if the calender and reality don’t apply. Obama voted for TARP. Bush wrote it, (or the person assigned to do Bush’ homework that day wrote it), and Bush signed it.
Please don’t feed this troll. It isn’t here for discussion but disruption. Thanks.
Restore Our Failure pays him more if he gets a rise out of you.
Read his past posts. He’s got a viewpoint. Maybe we shouldn’t be so dismissive. I think it’s great right wingers read our posts!
As you know, the same is true for the Catfood Commission.
It NEVER reached any conclusions or proposals.
But this is barely ever mentioned.
What I am concerned with is the crap the main stream media is beginning to spew about a recovery. It sure is coincidental that things seem to be (theoretically) improving right around election season.
The media is a full bore spin of the improving economy in the US, but where’s the proof? December numbers are always full of shit because of the holiday season and to base anything off of it is just dumb. It isn’t like the holiday season hasn’t come before and we have a record of this sort of thing.
Additionally, going back to the snippet of the debate, I find it amusing that they are going to get the economy going again and make the US competitive. Competitive how? To lower the cost of labor to the same point as China and say “There! It’s better?” Why doesn’t anyone ever examine the wage deflation that has been going on for better part of the past decade and highlight the fact that Perot was right and we are in a race to the bottom.
This isn’t something that any politician should be advocating for. You do not fight slave labor wages by making your own citizens slaves.
Obama and Timmeh implemented TARP, following Bush’s blueprint. And maybe going easier on the banks than bush planned.
If the pundits want to blame Obama, fine. As with the above he bears as much of the blame as Bush.
Boxturtle (And Obama could still fix it intelligently, if he wanted to do so)
The village has a very big stake in showing that austerity — e.g., no more fiscal stimulus is needed — works. That ensures that other folks must pay the consequences of the policy failures of the elite.
If austerity doesn’t work, someone MIGHT look at the possibility of fiscal stimulus fancanced by increased taxes on the 1%. Obviously, that must be avoided.
Boxturtle (remember when we had media that was not corporate owned?)
If things are (theoretically) improving, why are the proles invading Washington to Occupy Congress today? It’s because things are not improving.
I don’t believe things are improving, but what I hate is listening to the MSM say that things are getting better when obviously they aren’t. We are in a race to the bottom and we seem incapable of even acknowledging the issue much less addressing it.
I just believe it is all window dressing to make the common voter feel a little better about voting for whichever flavor of the same party you are going to vote for. Will it be fore the Democrat who will work for the interests of the rich or will it be the Republican who does the same openly?
We must be living in a time warp, because very little has changed since MLK was killed. This video could have been made in the 60′s.
Game over for the planet!
What was that, a Jerry Springer production, Idiocracy II? Even if there were world war III, a civil war, needed to overthrow the criminals in both parties, you just don’t have time to create workable solutions to save the planet.
Game over folks, from now until we burn up and starve to death, it will just be a lawless free-for-all. All fighting and killing over less and less, until the last battle is over the last drop of drinkable brackish water.
I appreciate your tolerance, thank you.
I actually agree with you about a natural baseline of unemployed people at any given time. But I don’t think that’s what Gingrich was talking about. It’s more along the lines that every parent should teach their children about the working world. The applause line was that everyone have a shot at “owning the job”. You know, running the company.
To me that seems like a positive message.
(PS. He used being a janitor as an example because one of his kids did janitorial work for allowance money.)
