Mr. Richard — Pooch Smooch. Token, cutest dog in the world (10 lb. category), gives this video three tail wags of approval. Bailey-cat, however, is indifferent.
What’s on your mind?
Um, ew.
Hey Suz!
*laughing* i don’t think i’ve ever gotten an ew newton
how was your day?
Jumping day here. Another Mac-Newbie now absorbed into the collective, and various other laborious chores.
Yours?
i had sunshine, hail, rain, and haze but no wind today. tis a chilly 37 outside and i’m wearing multiple layers — again.
Is this in honor of Rick Santorum’s gay marriage/man-on-dog platform?
Here’s some very pretty pictures from Wisconsin:
http://freewayblogger.blogspot.com/2012/01/wisconsins-overpass-light-brigade.html
Me? I just put up some epic signage in LA, and am heading north with a packed Prius…
What are you burning in the stove this year?
hey scarlet — how ya doing tonight? how far north are ya heading?
those ‘idaho’ logs (they are compressed sawdust). they burn hot and last. i’m thinking perhaps i’ve lost my own personal summer (finally) so i’m feeling the cold more this year
Ah, the ‘wide-stance’ fire…
That’s a good question – I made sure I had enough signs to take me all the way up to Portland/Seattle, if that’s how things work out. You’re on the coast somewhere, right?
*laughing*
Hey, I’ve been hoping to catch you on LLN. Do you know that teabaggers are diggin’ your signage?
My husband, who is very confused sometimes, has forwarded me links to your site from his extreme right wing friends. I love it.
just outside of tillamook….
hey tuez — how ya doing tonight?
hey…
Went into Sunnyvale, met with ergonomics consultant, will be getting a chair that is safe for me to sit in with hip precautions in my cube (basically a chair with seat height about 5 inches higher).
Then physical therapy, which was heating pads and electrical stimulation of my thigh muscles. Loosened me up a lot, feeling more flexible hours later.
It’s getting warmer here, no more record lows (brrr), so I’m good.
How come personal summers never occur in winter? Mine are always worst in August/September. Can I have one, like say 2 days ago, when it never got above 48 in Orlando? Hell no.
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…!
Uh, thanks? Were they sending them in praise of my methods, or as someone to hunt down and kill? Am Very interested in your answer.
hey wmd — that’s great news!!! when does the new chair arrive?
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Am Very interested in your answer. I’ll bet, Scarlet…! ;-)
They were lovin’ it. Took me by surprise too.
I don’t remember exactly what the emails said, but they encouraged checking out your site and doing the same in one’s own respective hometown. My husband has learned to use BCCs, probably to stop me from doing a reply all and bitch slapping his friends, so I’m not entirely sure where these emails came from, but I’m fairly sure I can guess.
Ron Paulites are freeway blogging madly in my area.
Not too shabby, had some rain off and on, but, largely gorgeous again today…! ;-)
hey ysd — how ya doing tonight?
Your comment and link below…USA boots on Isreal soil! War is their only answer to about all situation it seems. As MOTU will they dominate China remember how that worked out in Kores…we are still there 60 years later. I liked you Ike quote BTW.
…probably to stop me from doing a reply all and bitch slapping his friends… You go girl…! ;-)
The thing is, the right and left have the same grievances, we just have different ends, but education can fix that.
Suz, have you ever tried the pellets for heating? They’re compressed pine or oak, and lots of people use them around here, I’ve heard.
Paulistas picked up on it way quicker than the anti-warriors back in ’08. I think it’s because they understand it’s their overpasses, freeways, and infrastructure.
Mahalo, bb…! Some scary sh*t, no…? 8-(
Up way past my bedtime, and fading fast.
hey margot — the place in town where i get my logs also sells pellets and pellet stoves. not sure if mine jotul can burn pellets
how’s ohio tonight?
And because it’s cheap and effective.
i hear that… today has been a low energy day for me
What I can’t figure out, is why these people don’t follow and read the links that reportedly back up the bullshit opinions in the emails. Their links completely undermine their arguments. Or maybe reading for comprehension wasn’t taught where they went to school. I just don’t get it.
It was in the 40s today and supposed to be warmer tomorrow, just weird weather. We need cold weather to kill bugs (and so the trees don’t bud, etc.)
normal weather patterns do not exist anymore i fear… last year i had early buds and then it rained and rained and rained for a couple months. never really had a spring
Hey Suzanne!
I moved boxes of books for 5 hours, and then did office work for two. By the time we left the restaurant tonight, I had hip lock! The physical exercise is great for us — though exhausted, we all comment how much stronger we feel.
*heh* We’re not exactly talking about Nuclear Physicists here, M’dear…! ;-)
True here in Ohio too. Usually June is the BEST month of the year. 2011, rained the entire damn month.
ce! your arms are gonna be so buff! what did ya have at the restaurant?
Just a great cheeseburger and coleslaw. Beer!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle-east/israeli-and-us-troops-gear-up-for-major-missile-defense-drill-after-iran-maneuvers/2012/01/05/gIQAE0QqcP_story.html?tid=pm_pop
Hi, Suzanne, and all the Lakers,
Finally got my new monitor. I’ve been chewing away at this for months now, resigning myself to having to pay around $12 to 1500 bux, but as the smoke screen cleared, it came down to some basics, and decided that the Dell at $400 actually was a steal.
It’s running great, and my pictures have never looked so good!
Cleveland Great Lakes Brewery.
hey starbuck — how was your day?
cet par, I still naively think a pulse=intelligent life.
Silly me
More like intelligent life=pulse.
sweet! i like going down to the pelican brew pub (about 30 min south of me) and was delighted to hear they are gonna expand to a location on tillamook bay — much closer. i love their chili made with stout
GLB makes a cheese beer soup to die for — and crabcakes too. MsCE might be relocating to the west side of Cleveland, right near the brewery. Nice, 19th century neighborhood with the fabulous West Side Market.
Haven’t been to the Pelican for a number of years now.
The Pelican can hold more food than my belly can!
Or is it Billy can?
How frigging disingenuous of the Wapoo, again… …as well as frequent references by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Israel’s destruction.
ooooo that sounds yummy!
i took my aunt and uncle a few months and i gotta say, i wasn’t that impressed with their dinner menu. i’m really more a lunch kinda gal anyway and look forward to being able to zip up to tillamook bay to snag a bowl of their chili.
I’m out for the night.
Sweet dreams everyone.
g’nite tuez
Sweet dreams, tuez…! *g*
That beach it’s on used to be wild and beautiful. Now it’s gentrified.
Me too, I love chili. We had crab cakes for Christmas Eve, and had a giant sausage strata for Christmas day. Never cooked dinner that night but went to the movies. Funny, no one missed a mega dinner.
mom and i sat on it end of sept and it was so crowded — gentrified is a good descriptor. i’m glad i countered that beach with the cape meares lighthouse walk — some dayam pretty scenery but that walk back up the hill wore us both out
Goodnight Tuez, Suz, and the rest of youse… I’ll keep you posted on my voyage…
there’s a place across from the cheese factory that has wonderful crab cakes.. i’m gonna have to pick some up soon.
A severe weather forcast for you Suz:
A high surf advisory remains in effect until 10 am PST Friday.
* Seas: a large long period westerly swell peaking between 21 and
23 ft tonight and decreasing by mid morning Friday.
* Surf: the swell period is 16 seconds. Long period swell such
as this carries a large amount of energy and will result in
powerful breakers in the surf zone.
* Impacts: the surf zone will be increasingly dangerous tonight
especially with the strong currents associated with the large
tidal swing. Minor beach erosion is also possible.
Precautionary/preparedness actions…
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area… it is dangerous to venture near the water
under high surf conditions. People have drowned after being swept
away from rocks and jetties while observing high surf… or after
being knocked down by logs and other debris.
g’nite scarlet
yeah, there’s a good sized high tide tomorrow morning when those 23′ seas arrive… i heard the usual places that tend to flood may flood.
Good evening all, and sleep tight. I’ll be rising in 5 hours.
From Defense News “…marking the first permanent U.S. military presence on Israeli soil.” http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=3744319 These are “permananent troops”.
Syria, Lebanon, Eygypt and the Arab spring reaction. Imagine the computer war models the Pentagon is running. Pretty hairy stuff for under the radar…no pun intended.
g’nite ce
Pleasant dreams, Scarlet…! I truly look forward to your pixs…!
Rise and shine, but in the mean time may the night be good to you.
I’m off as well.
Take care.
Sweet dreams, Chris…!
Pleasant dreams, Starbuck…!
g’nite starbuck
I didn’t mean to drive everyone off tonite, Suz…! Honest Injun…! ;-)
i don’t think its you tut — i’ve really struck out with my video selections this week
hope my muppets post doesn’t bomb tomomrrow night
http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=3744319 “…marking the first permanent U.S. military presence on Israeli soil.” The Arab Spring states are in the radar maybe. Pentagon runnung lots of computer generated war models. Watch defense stocks.
marking the first permanent U.S. military presence on Israeli soil.
I think the holidaze hangover is still lingering…! ;-)
Clearly we should only interpret threats that we deem “threats” as such. I mean, we’ve asked them to calmly accept economic destruction if they don’t do what we want. I’m not sure that argument has ever worked in the history of the sandbox that is international politics.
Hey folks.
So has anyone here gotten a call in the last few days that sounded like a political survey asking about the “deficit crisis”?
And if you answered them they told you you won a prize?
hey chaeronea — how ya doing tonight?
hey spocko — i’ve not — how was your day today?
I wouldn’t go that far, bb, but, we’ve always had some boots on the ground, be it, military attaches and others…! I remember training Israelis on the Patriot system in Texas, back in ’86…!
Permananent US troops stationed in Isreal. Watch defense stocks as the Arab Spring states are in the cross hairs. Why under the radar…where is Hillary? Obama rattled sabers bigtime today.
Pretty good here, back to the realm of the walking dead over here on the east coast! Hopefully your evening is treating you well also.
Never has worked before…! Why would it work now…! *gah*
Btw, it’s been far too long since I’ve last seen your fonts, chaeronea…! *g*
i’m hanging in and hanging on — as always, tis good to see your fonts again
Wasn’t there a desert warfare school that was out there for a bit too? I’m thinking a little farther back. I mean we can’t have them lacking in know-how while they are testing out the equipment on the Soviet stuff that Syria had right?
The new USA/Iran escalation has taken place whilst the media is covering Iowa primary. Stealth…then the economic blockade where is the UN resolution? This is a similar pattern for the run up to Iraq which did us great harm.
Back to work next Tuesday after a four-week Holiday break. Gonna start an office pool on the date of the start of the Iran War. Got any good dates I might consider covering? I suppose early October will get taken up real early in the pool, huh?
hey et — how ya doing tonight?
Obama will have AIPAC campaign funding bigtime now. Just hope they don’t bomb nuclear sites and release radioactive materials in the atmosphere. That would move over Afghanistan/Pakistan and pollute watersheds.
Glad to be back, I’ve been trying to remain productive and whatnot, but the news is never any help. Good to see you on LLN as always!
As to it ever working, I’m pretty sure I just need to stop applying logic and get a job screaming about how they really aren’t people over there. Or keep reading “The Ayatollah Begs to Differ”. Wait what am I saying!
No, it’s really a tragedy that we are even in this position that we are out of saber rattles attempting to incite a war other than flat out reinforcing a country like Israel. Just sickening. I regret not walking out of a guest lecture in 2010 at my college at the time as a prof from over there tried to justify using the UN declaration on Human Rights as a basis for dealing with Palestinians. We all openly mocked him after he had left the room, because nobody could see how in hades he had a point. He was there on a recruiting drive, to send people over to the holy land on subsidized trips, and to help drum up support from those of the faith. I guess he’s the one laughing now.
Why thank you, good to see you up late with us here =) Hopefully this winter is treating you too badly!
tis been a mild one for sure — but that doesn’t stop me from whining about the cold and damp *laughing*
There’s several Desert Warfare schools, Ft Irwin CA (Mojave desert) was the main one, Ft. Bliss was home for most of the missile testing, etc…!
I’d have to agree, they had to work a bit harder on the Iraq baloney though. From my experience the news cycle has beaten down people so much even lifting their heads up a bit to see how this is just another action in the endless wars apparently takes too much effort. The NDAA is just method to distract, while also allowing for the further cementing of executive overreach. Our friend John Yoo even thinks its a bit too much =P
doing fine, Suzanne. Plus 8 F and snowing moderately – we’ll get about 6 inches of new snow overnight. Or more. first night above zero this year.
yikes!
ah crap, i forking snagged it again… fork
Right, with OPFOR being stationed at Irwin irrc. I just thought I remembered reading something about a mirror school over there, but I haven’t brushed up on my tank warfare in a while sadly.
It was cool. Thanks.
Question for everyone:
Do you like the Do Not Call Registry?
Do you think that it was a good example of “we the people” acting together to deal with a problem?
Would you like to go back to the old days where it didn’t exist?
Haha, awe! Well that’s somewhat understandable. In WNY we just got hit with our first real major snowfall of the year. The usual random complaining about the snow inevitably starts. I happen to like the seasons, and especially winter, so no pity for you from me!…. In reality though I hope hot tea and other remedies help!
…using the UN declaration on Human Rights as a basis for dealing with Palestinians.
Basically, We must destroy the Village, to save it…! 8-(
i don’t wanna go back
Coming out of Lurking – to say Hi
well played =P
it took me a bit to figure how the best layering combos for winter. i had the layers for the cool summer nights down pat. i like the fact that i have 4 seasons now instead of the two i had in ca. i am like a little kid when it snows…. i just don’t want it cold enough to snow without getting snow and i dont’ want it to stay for longer than a day or two
bev! how’s dc tonight?
And the Century mark for good measure…! ;-)
yeah its a bad luck kinda night
Just under the freezing number and dropping. As long as I don’t have to shovel it – I’m happy.
Like that one poor wadi surrounded by walls, electricity, and two settlements with a standard of living unseen by those below them? Sometimes you wonder how people deal reasonably with the conditions.
I cannot even think about how I would respond now. Any thoughts on if we can keep the village from getting set on fire?
brrrrr bundle up in front of the fire time
Haha, that’s a lot of people I live around here with. People just seem to want the snow for the holidays then have it be over with. Not much of a go around here.
Aloha, Bev…! Any chance we could schedule Trita Parsi and his brand new book A Single Roll of The Dice…
I’ve got him on my working list, will write publicist for review copy.
i admit it – i’m a cold weather wuss
Or the space heater under my desk.
Thank you for answering.
I ask because that call I was talking about, the “survey” then passed me on to a prize I had won, A Caribbean Cruise! a $600 value! From Florida to the Bahamas all I had to do was pay taxes and gratuities.
So I started asking questions.
Who do you work for?
What was the political survey for?
Who how did you happen to call this number that is on the Do Not Call list?
The call center worked didn’t know so I asked for a supervisor. She went away and then gave me the name of the GM and an 888 number to call.
Now I realized that what they were doing to skirt the FCC and FTC rules of the Do Not Call Registry was using the Political speech and survey loophole. That is what they why they set it up as a separate deal. If you answered the question they were going going to “give you” their free prize.
Interesting reviews on amazon, they seem to smack of shills. You’ve given me a book to keep my eye out for, many thanks!
steph got me a nice little one to put by my feet for christmas — i’m saving it for when its below freezing — that’s when my feet really start to get cold.
You totally Rawk, M’dear…! ;-)
i wish loopholes were illegal
<<half Canadian among too many other things.
You're trained from birth not to mind it, also you get forced to try every possible winter sport/activity until you don't mind snow very much.
see – i was born in the south and lived in either the south or ca for dang near my entire life. i’m still adapting to life above the 45th
Hi Bev
If Jonathan M. Ladd’s people are beating down your doors for a chance at the book Salon for his new book:
“Why Americans Hate the Media and How It Matters,” I would be happy to host.
I have since read the FTC and FCC parts of the Do Not Call Registry and the Telemarketing Sales Rules. They actually address this issue.
Couldn’t do it without you and the other FDL supporters. I trust your recommendations over a book that just ends up on my doorstep unannounced.
*heh* As a Half Canuck, I still hate snow…! 8-P
Haha, that’s the issue right there =P In the heat I’m actually pretty good, humidity just turns me into a river of salt. It’s definitely enjoyable though to be warm and not as concerned with keeping warm…. But snow and cold are definitely preferable =P
It is on my list now – I’ll check it out. Thanks!
Pooches, putzes, politcs . . . I got this to share tonite before I crash.
1) My Fav JJ Cale of all time.
He Hearts Magnolia.
2)
i got totally spoiled by decades of sf bay area weather. humidity is rarely a problem and after a few days of hot, mother nature’s air conditioner turns on and fog streams in through the golden gate.
my mom and sister ended up in az — they love that dry heat. i don’t like living in an oven no matter how dry. hot is hot in my book.
and its a whole lot easier to put on more clothes. there is only so much i can take off before folks start to go blind
Haha, lies! Its far too enjoyable every once in a while to have fun in the cold!
Haha! Your layering comment is quite true. Personally dry heat doesn’t bother me as much though, I recently moved my dad down to New Mexico during the summer heatwave. We got out of the car in the middle of the flats just past Texas to stop for the night and it was still 90 degrees, but dry as a bone. We walked into the hotel looking quite comfortable to the shock of the employee who noticed we had NYS plates and wanted to know why we weren’t dying. He didn’t seem to believe it was just as hot at nights during the summer out in WNY, and with extremely high humidity, was infinitely less comfortable. Didn’t seem to believe a word!
hey larue — how’s sac tonight?
Well, I must confess that I had a little fun making some snowballs, earlier this season, atop Mauna Kea, but, other than that…! ;-)
i am old enough that it doesn’t bother me to look like the pillsbury dough boy wearing multiple layers of fleece… one of the advantages of living solo
Well I suppose you win then =P Did you see the Hungarian bond auctions and subsequent capitulation to the IMF/ECB today?
Thanks for the company, going to wander off to bed, have early go in the morning. Good Night all.
tis about time for me to turn back into a pumpkin folks. thank you for letting me hang with ya tonight
hope to see ya tomorrow for muppets – g’nite all
Zipups with hoods do little to flatter the male figure either =P The winter is usually just time for the layers to come out and stay.
Have a goodnight suzanne!
I’ll be mighty surprised if the Eurozone does survive the year intact…!
Sweet dreams, Suz and Bev…! *g*
Agreed. The sticky wicket is the Franco-German relationship, if they start to try to break apart the good/bad nations in the Euro that will go down the tubes rather quickly. Hard to be polite with balance sheets that broken. I’m just waiting for them to get into the mess that is Hungary and realize that nobody has a big enough boat for that and Greece. Or that might have already happened. Just not pretty in the slightest.
Care to elaborate a bit. I was looking at the Hungarian Bond rate at plus 10. Were they unable to sell?
OT Germany is getting off of Nuclear power. Why can’t we wean from big oil/endless war?
Agreed, the Implosion will not be pretty at all…! 8-(
Well, I shall bow out for the evening too…! Hope to see ya more often, chaeronea…! *g*
At least make a real alternative energy program.
Good night CT read the reviews of the book foreign policy. Just did 16 minutes of trampoline.Watching the world crumble sucks.
Looking at the charts for Hungarian right now, they are flopping around, if it comes down below 10% yield things will get… marginally better for them. But with their last three bond auctions they have failed to sell everything they were hopeful for. Their 1 year auction on the primary market yesterday had the yields spike up 2% to just under 10% yield. This is entirely unsustainable, and with their last two failures, undermined confidence. The Hungarian bank had resisted getting more help, or allowing the various powers that be access to their economy up until now. The result was the IMF/ECB was not going to send any help their way, until they decided to give some sovereignty for the possibility of a bailout of some sort.
Good to see you as well, hopefully I will be able to make it more often. I’m probably calling it a night soon too. Have a good one!
Thank you for that. I saw some prior efforts by web search. This is sad for the Eurozone periphery. I read that many folks there are immigrating to find income to support their families. They need a Marshall Plan.
