What’s on your mind?
Went to work, short day. I’m approved for working from home and short days for the next few weeks.
Good evening, Suzanne. Lovely weather in south central CA….nice way to start the New Year.
Hey, wmd, how was it to go back to work? Recuperation continuing to come along well?
woohoo wmd! working from home will be easier on ya — how was your short day today?
hey dearie — its been off and on high wind warnings up here since the 1st. what didja do today?
I just hung out at home enjoying the pretty day. My grandson had his tonsils and adenoids out this morning….his mom says he did great. Once he’s fully recovered, his twin will have his turn. The doctor said the tonsils were the size of golf balls…pretty hard for a 3 year old to accommodate! I will be so glad when they can both breathe easily!
golf balls? ohmystars
is he home or are they keeping him for the night? how long do they predict his recovery to take?
I got home around 2:00, took a percocet and slept for a couple of hours. Then got back to work. from 4:00-6:00.
I’ve got a lot of pain from being active. It’s good pain though.
Surgeon had me get an ultrasound yesterday – swelling in my calf needed to be checked to make sure I didn’t have a blood clot. I don’t have a clot.
I think I’m going to get therapeutic massage after PT, see if that doesn’t help with swelling.
Now for sleep.
g’nite wmd… twas a good first day and good news about the no clot
Recovery is 7 to 10 days. I really wanted to be there, but there are times when a mom&dad should just do things together without grandma hanging around. I’ll go up and do some baby hugging during the week so that mom and dad can get to work. The bad days are apparently from day 4 to day 8. We’ll see.
And, tonsillectomies these days are outpatient. Surgery at 9:30 a.m……home by 2 p.m. Wow.
the cranky days of recovery is when having gramma to distract is most helpful (and needed)
way too much is outpatient nowadays.
Tis official, the email went out, one new hire started yesterday, the other starts next monday, and when they are trained in i will be moving to third shift. 5:00am to 5:30pm friday, saturday, sunday. I will always have a four-day “weekend” and think of the gardening i will get done in the summer if i’m up that early! w00t!
The downside of course is that i will rarely be up late enough to hang out at LLN. *SOB!* so i hope i will see folks at the Lakeside Diner occasionally.
ndfg! woohoo — that’s wonderful news!!!
*snoopy happy dance*
Yes, but, sometimes people get sicker from picking stuff up in the hospital. When my dad his his surgery, I couldn’t wait to get him out of the hospital!
Congrats! The new schedule sounds just fine. And I know you’ll love the Diner!
tis a dayamed if ya do and dayamed if ya don’t kinda situation.
i’m not usually on a thread at the same time, but i’ve been following the news about your surgery. So glad it seems to be going well. Heal thoroughly!
so… anything happen today?
Sorry, Suz. Looks like we broke the internets with talk of medical and kid stuff. Sorry!
it looks like a frothy mixture is erupting from the GOP Iowa caucus clown car … or at least coating the other two top contenders. blech.
Ok, gotta make like Busted and g’thud.
i don’t think it was that… perhaps folks are just od’d from the caucus and went to bed early
perhaps the video is a dud tonight and put folks to sleep
Hi Suz, I hope the New Year finds you well!
Wow. just went back and watched the vid. Amazing! Thanks for sharing that.
And, yeah, the whole Iowa thing was such a waste of time. Signifying nothing. One has to wonder what slithered under the wire while everyone was distracted. NDAA for one. But, hey, enough of politics. Glad some sign makers made a few bucks over the past months.
hey newton — better than last week for sure :) how was your day?
Oh, I missed ndfg! I guess days are better, but 5 am to 5:30pm! I guess, 12-hr workday and 30 minute lunch? Gaaa. Sounds exhausting to me.
Even though I worked a 4-day 10hr shift for nearly 5 years, and that made 5-days straight seem forever-long, the day after the 20th hr of work, I was worn out. (it was 2 days on, 2 days off). That first day I usually didn’t get much done til late in the day–just recuperating.
I coulda sworn we had some rules about 8 hour workdays around here…until recently. Seems like anything goes now. Another effect of union weakness (even though my office jobs weren’t unionized, 30 years ago they were neither so long, with such short lunch breaks–let alone bosses trying to persuade you to work through lunch–nor so regimented.) Once again, we’re regressing in work life. We’ll have to fight the battles over again there, too.
And if Santorum wins, we’ll have to fight for birth control (!!!!) all over again, too. Unbelievable.
i totally ignored it — it doesn’t mean squat. i really wish election season was behind us already — i do not like the way this season is going. the gop are hosting ‘presidential debates’ all over the place and getting it covered like its news when really its just a marketing strategy. i fear this year is going to be the nastiest of them all
hey tejan — how was your day? we seem to be going backwards instead of that looking forward thing
speaking of signmakers — tis so good to have the freeway blogger back — i sure missed scarlet’s work
My day was not too bad. Have you noticed how often the non-political threads (like LLN and CAturday and PUAC etc.) veer onto food and cooking? It’s having its effect on me; I made soup from scratch tonight – did a different one last week. Last night I baked my favorite quick bread, as bread instead of muffins–cranberry-walnut. Both were pretty darn good.
I had been too lazy or unfocussed or something to do much real cooking for awhile, but am finally getting back to enjoying it again, and I know all the cooking comments around here have something to do with it.
I know! It’s like everything everyone fought for over the years was wiped out in record time. Just shocking, really. But to hear the phony ‘conservatives’ talk about less govt while telling women what to do with their own persons is just disgusting. A pox on all of them. And on the BigO for siding with them against us.
We are in for bad, bad times. And that just infuriates me!
It was good, thank you.
I am proudly 100% Iowa-free for the day… the last few days, actually.
Even the most awe-inspiring freak shows gets creepier, well beyond tedious, and impossible to care about.
What a planet…
Did you manage not to care about it also?
i love taking muffin recipes and baking them as a loaf and having a slice while its still warm
i just want their nom settled so they stop forking dominating the forking airways. its like the gop special of the week on the various news channels covering debates and all this bru-haha over the caucuses.
i stopped caring about the r’s a long time ago – years before i finally stopped being an r
Good evening to all .. thanks for hosting, Suz .. its been so long I am not sure where I am ..
hey tearloch — i think you are in bc somewhere *laughing* how ya been dood?
yay! jon stewart is back tonight!
I am well .. had some family issues to deal with so I avoided the world for awhile .. I am back where I belong now .. both physically and perspective wise .. hoping all of you had a safe and healthy holiday season .. the more folks you have in a family, the more complex it can get ..
I do like that the Lake is so informative….and so friendly. I love the cooking comments. I hadn’t thought about it, but I realize that I’m cooking more adventurously because of all the fascinating food comments that show up here. Fun, huh!?
.. just switched to Jon .. thanks for the heads-up ..
so glad you are back :)
.. be well Suz and all .. will be back soonest ..
.. thank you kindly .. that warms the very cockles of my heart .. ciao for niao
You’ve gotta see this. This TV will be the booth to see at the CES in Las Vegas. 55″, 4mm thick, 7.5kg OLED screen, 1000 times as fast as an LED or LCD screen.
You do realize that these screens have an active component that is hydrocarbon based, and could become ecologically “green” at some point in the future? If you’ve ever seen one at a trade show, they are the most spectacular display of color you’ve ever seen. Gamuts well outside Lab and colors that don’t have names.
Suz and everyone, good to see you:)
I was at the laundromat and had a wide-screen tv blaring at me, all about the Iowa poll. I’d rather hear about the Kardashians than the Republican clown car.
hey ondelette — how ya doing tonight? there was no link to look at :(
margot — i would rather watch the duggars tv show than another republican clown car *shrudder*
how’s ohio tonight?
Yeah; not bad for a bunch of rigid, narrow-minded firebaggers, huh?
Do you suppose this was what iVillage (remember iVillage?) was aiming for? (or was it eVillage? I’ve forgotten, lol).
Well, sadly, one of my few resolutions for this year is to try to get bed and get up at a decent hour, keep a more or less regular schedule. I really do get more done that way.
So I’m going to say how glad I am to start the new year with all y’all, and head off to try to sleep. Good night!
Ohio’s fine. Bit nippy here and a tiny bit of snow, so all’s well.
i heard there was a big snowstorm – thought it was ohio? my fault for listening to the news with one ear
Happy dreams, tejan.
Well, looks like I broke the nets again. Happy dreams all. And me, too.
it wasn’t you dearie…. g’nite
looks like everyone has fallen asleep… i’ve turned the lights on low for any one coming in and there is a pot of coffee ready to go.
thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight. g’nite all
Is this a demonstration of the GOP required gymnastics in order to win the upcoming election?
I actually could use that coffee suz…night.
Oh, sorry, it was CNN.
