Oh, Rick Santorum, is there any discussion you can’t make stupider by adding your two cents?

The Impending Eviction of Occupy Boston |
| By: Kevin Gosztola Thursday December 8, 2011 5:59 pm |
The world waits to see what will happen at midnight tonight, as Occupy Boston is evicted from Dewey Square in Boston by Mayor Thomas Menino. The moment has been creeping up on the occupiers ever so steadily since a week or two ago. After Occupy LA and Occupy Philadelphia were cleared, it was evident the city would be moving the occupiers out as soon as they could.
Knives Come Out Against Martha Coakley, Who Dares Try to Hold Banks Accountable |
| By: David Dayen Thursday December 8, 2011 5:19 pm |
It was inevitable that some apologist would claim that Martha Coakley actually holding banks accountable for following the law would stunt the nation’s recovery and cause us all to queue up on soup lines. That ignominious honor goes to Liz Peek of the Fiscal Times (a Fox News contributor). I apologize in advance for the fifth-grade writing level of this excerpt.
Occupy Boston Court Decision: Occupation is Not Speech |
| By: dlp67 Thursday December 8, 2011 4:38 pm |
As reported, Occupation Boston yesterday received word that state court Judge Frances McIntyre lifted the temporary restraining order and denied the preliminary injunction paving the way for eviction. Mayor Thomas M. Menino quickly issued a statement that the city “strongly encourages” protesters to leave Dewey Square.
Although many observers had expected this result, this judge did something new. She created a new dangerous theory: “occupation” is conduct that is not entitled to First Amendment protection.
My Name Is Ceara Sturgis, and I am Not a Troublemaker |
| By: ACLU Thursday December 8, 2011 3:58 pm |
Let me explain. I’m a graduate of Wesson Attendance Center Class of 2010. I loved my high school. I had great friends, I got good grades, I played soccer and was in the band, and I got along well with my teachers. I stayed out of trouble. My high school experience was pretty unremarkable, actually, until it came time for senior year portraits.
I’ve never been what you’d call a girly-girl. I feel uncomfortable in dresses and am much happier wearing T-shirts and khaki shorts. I always find clothes that I like in the boys’ section, rather than the girls’. But this was never an issue at school at all. Nobody ever made me feel weird or like an outcast.
Iran Shows US Drone on State-Run TV |

Iran showed off their new toy, courtesy of the CIA, on state-run television, proving their possession of a US surveillance drone.
The condition suggests that the Iranians took control of the remotely-piloted aircraft rather than shooting it down.

Senate Republicans Block Second Dem Payroll Tax Cut Package |
| By: David Dayen Thursday December 8, 2011 1:40 pm |
Republicans claim to support the concept of extending the payroll tax cut for 2012, but oppose the pay-for in this bill of a 1.9% surtax on millionaires. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon already thought he was paying twice that much, according to remarks from earlier today.
OMB Trying to Stop Pentagon Slush Funds |
| By: David Dayen Thursday December 8, 2011 12:50 pm |
There are several ways in which the Defense Department’s extended whine about automatic sequestration cuts to their base budget is a joke, but the White House has apparently sniffed out one of those ways. The Overseas Contingency budget has quickly become a slush fund for the Pentagon. Many earmarked to go toward operations in Iraq and Afghanistan often ends up paying for cherished Pentagon programs. The White House wants to put a stop to this.
