About Firedoglake
Happy New Year, Suzanne…..and many thanks for all the wonderful evenings you have provided for us night owls. Here’s hoping 2012 will be a bit more upbeat than 2011 was. And that the Repub Goat Rodeo goes on for a few more months. I do love to laugh.
Another great restore wrt the Bugs, Suz.
Happy impending New Year!
hey dearie — thank you – tis my pleasure to hang out with youse guyz.
how’s the so central coast tonight?
hey newton — isn’t she a beaut! how ya doing tonight?
Hau’oli Makihiki Hou to all the lln pups, and even Suz…! ;-)
hippo gnu deer tut! how’s paradise tonight?
Beautiful day in wonderland. Plumbers were here half the day digging up part of my backyard to haul out clay pipes loaded with roots. Well, I wasn’t going to Sicily this year anyhow…..and it needed to be done. I’m a Pollyanna… so I reframed that I’m glad it’s done and I won’t have to worry about it anymore. Plus, I put it on my credit card to get the points and will pay it off when the bill comes in. Whatevz…………
making lemonade outta those plumbing lemons!
there’s a very well lit-up crab boat on the other side of the spit checking or setting crabpots. tis good to have the crabbers back — waters were too rough for all of last week and the local market had to ‘import’ crab from seattle (they actually used the term imported from seattle on their sign explaining why the sudden price hike)
Happy New Year Dear Friends !
Champagne is served …
It was a gorgeous day here, but, I’m rather annoyed at the 45-60 minute delay in my Pizza Hut delivery…! ;-)
My market got some wonderful dungeness crabs in this week…..such a treat. And some jumbo wild shrimp…. I enjoyed my New Year’s Eve dinner a lot!
petro! hippo gnu deer dood — let the bubbly flow!!!
how was your celebration tonight?
hell, that was standard delivery delay when i lived in the ‘burbs in the bay area
Great, Suz. Got a load of paperwork done, did some amateur plumbing, watched a terrific BBC TV piece, and mostly stayed indoors.
You?
yum! tis about time that i treat myself to a huge take-out tub of kendra’s cioppino. i’ll have to stop by her new place next time i’m in town
amateur plumbing of the non-mac no ka-ching kind?
haven’t stepped foot outside at all today
Happy New Year you all!
Quiet and relaxed dinner with close friends. I got invited to 3 parties but was not in the mood for that kind of night … still suffering the effects of last weekend’s 4 days of celebrations ! *g*
Love cioppino … and, unfortunately, it isn’t something you make for one. I need to plan a dinner party while the crab is still in season.
ya gotta pace yourself to party through both christmas and new years…
Somehow (I cannot imagine exactly), the kitchen sink got to clogging.
Having run the dishwasher (Boo, Boo!) overnight left a frightful mess, inconsolable even at the hands of an expertly wielded plunger.
Alas, I was in the muck for a spell.
is why i buy it at kendra’s restaurant. she puts it a huge plastic container for me and it lasts me several days. fulla all sorta good local yummies
aint no way i’m making it for one. tis cheaper for me to buy a ‘bowl’ and bring it home.
Hey, Canuckistani New Year is the same as down here?
Who’da thunk?
yuck! at least it was the kitchen and not a bathroom disaster ya were dealing with dood
Lucky you to have a place to buy take out cioppino….just great! Enjoy it for me, too!
It was no biggie. Busy hands, you know what they say.
hey all. Drove into Santa Cruz, able to get into and out of truck without using leg lifter. Up and down stairs, will be sleeping in my bed for first time since surgery tonight, shower in morning.
Recovery is accelerating.
I want to wish you all the best in the time to come. I wanted to share some music tonight but my puter just went blank on all things memory. No toolbars no recall of what happened. I dont know but will read along as i can while i find what i can. You all carry on. And Zappa–Shut up an play yer guitar!!
Count your blessing, such as they are. I had bathtubs & toilets and sink clogged all at once. Damn roots in the pipes!
LOL !
Only Thanksgiving is different in Canada … that and affordable Health Care !
*Ducks and runs*
Yay! Sounds like you are recovering just fine. Good work. Carry on!
woohoo wmd!!! snoopy happy dance even
what a wonder day. how ya doing tonight?
hey homeroid — how’s homer tonight?
Dearie, I have been reading about your woes. I do not envy you.
Mine was a spot of ill-tempered hydrodynamics. Yours is another thing all together.
Best to you.
You better run!
*Oh Snap* Yeppers, Canuckistan is definitely some far-flung, furiner land eh…? ;-)
no running with the bubbly…. that stuff spews everywhere
Hoo-rah…! Tis a shame it’s still so damn cold up there…! ;-)
Oh, that’s right. Petro’s holding.
Never mind.
Thanks for your kind care. I never thought I’d get so much joy from pulling the flush handle. Makes me laugh.
Awesome news, wmd…! *g*
Sometime next week, we’re gonna do an all-nighter …
G’nite Folks … may 2012 be your best year yet !
Hey, CT, did you see that Paiagirl showed up in my diary? I’m hoping that she’ll become more active, even write an occasional diary.
g’nite petro – hippo gnu deer
We were +4 today … and +2 at midnight. Sunday night is gonna see a huge drop in temps for a few days though …
I sure did, MM…! I’m trying too…! ;-)
G’nite Suz !
Now I’ll be dreaming of Stews and Chowders … *g*
hey mauimom — that was a great forking diary! how’s your island?
Feeling good. drinking a couple glasses of champagne, going up to bed soon. Really pleased with progress this week.
Work again on Tuesday, not sure when I’ll start outpatient PT… there’s an in-network facility within 1/2 mile of work.
OMG. Where are you, Petrocelli?
Any chance your handle refers to Rico Petrocelli of the Red Sox?
Happy New Year all you LLFDL pups! The Sweety’s got the pork, saurerkraut and wieners already cooking in the roaster oven….Ummm, smells like January 1, 2012 throughout the house….
In about 1971, our driveway was going to have to be dug up because of roots in the pipes to the street.
I recall a dinner-table conversation with all 6 of us, where the ways and means of getting the job done were discussed.
My parents were lamenting the cost; I recall it very well: seven hundred dollars…
Poor Samoa has just lost an entire day, ya’ll…! Go figure, eh…?
your progress has been amazing dood. can’t believe you are going back to work so soon. did your doc write an rx for outpatient pt?
So, no wonder I’m talkin’ to myself downstairs…43 posts already up here with Suze! Sheesh.
Actually have myself a small partial glass of Prosecco. So out of practice drinkin’ it took 5 min. just to get into the bottle, and then I hadda find a wine glass to pour it into.
Skoal! Prost! And, and, sheesh, I can’t remember the Russian toast…once upon a time I useta use it quite a bit…
Oh my…
Best to all of yours, Petro.
hey robert — how’s soPA tonight?
Very interesting and informative diary, MM. Paiagirl had much to say. I hope you will both keep us all informed.
Happy flipping New Year!
tejan! how was your day?
*clink* tj!
margaret! how ya doing tonight?
Back atcha, Peggy! How are you?
41 degrees, but highs in the upper teens on the way, maybe some snow squalls, but not anywhere enough snow to ease the distress of the region’s ski resorts….
Happy New Year to you, Margaret. I’m still laughing about how tough the boys think you are. I really do enjoy your comments at the Diner…..wish I could get up early enough to participate, but I enjoy reading later in the morning.
Margaret, hi!!
Haven’t seen you in a long time.
Happy New Year.
the resorts up on mt hood finally got some snow after all the rain that fell earlier this week.
tis 44 here…
Clink! Clink! (spinning ’round, clinking away with all the pups)
My day was fine…kept forgetting it was New Year’s Eve, found myself on the road after dark…early, but already a few drivers driving oddly…I don’t like being out on NYE. Too scary.
Nothing exciting. A little laundry, a few errands, some tidying up…some reading. It’s what I meant to be doing now, but instead I have been switching between TCM and Twilight Zone on Syfy (mentioned by, erp, who was it? on LN below). You guys?
Some of my hippie friends earlier tonight.
Yikes! Hello everybody! Great to see you too!
Peggy…! You’re still up…! :-)
Moi.
been inside all day – don’t plan on hitting the streets until tomorrow or maybe monday… and only if i have to
Good times!
Hmmm…I see your point…the outfits could certainly have fit into a pic taken 35 yrs ago…
Glad you were out and about. Are you home already?
I’ve been watching the SYFY TZ marathon since morning, as I always do while finishing the last of the holiday nog….
Thank you. I’m so sorry; my brain just failed.
Brother-in-law just phoned from Cleveland. “Happy New Year.”
Dude, we’ve got 3+ hours ’til New Year’s.
Ooh how cool, Peg, beaucoup instruments are in view…! ;-)
Ice Station Zebra on TCM – Rock Hudson and Patrick McGoohan. This must have been around the time of The Prisoner…1968. (More tv nostalgia!)
It’s okay. Joshing all in fun.
Hah. You notice the instruments, I notice the clothes. True to ourselves, I guess.
We need to pace ourselves, M’dear…! ;-)
you can always call him back at midnight your time to tell him hny for realsies *wink*
I notice the guy in the “ski mask” in the “Occupy Supply” ad at the top of my screen.
Looks like a bank robber. Creeps me out.
Hi MauiMom, I think PetroC’s turned in for the night. He is a fellow Canuck, in Mississauga, not far from me here in Toronto. Do not derange yourself, he is speaking in Celsius. In Americanspeak our temp was abt 39 Farenheit today, currently about 36 F. Worse things happen in Minnesota.
Oh yeah. I can prevent myself doing stupid things but not other drivers. You know what this town gets like.
We just called our eldest daughter in Toledo…! ;-)
Caught a bit of Prairie Home Companion this afternoon in the car – he must have been in Honolulu…the song was definitely in Hawaiian. Not one of the handful I’d recognize, but the language is unmistakable.
I thought of you, ctuttle, and you, Mauimom. I actually know people in Hawaii now!
You can’t believe how many 4 am calls my husband gets here. He has a number of clients on the Mainland — East Coast.
“Oh, oops, i forgot Hawaii is 5 hours EARLIER.”
i loved it when cartoon network had ‘june bugs’ and played nothing but bugs for the month of june
it was like a childhood fantasy come true
Hiya All!
I’m having trouble watching Girl with the Dragon Tatoo ,original version, and reading all LLNight! Happy New Year everyone.
And here they are being played. :) In this shot they were playing a little diddy called “I love country music, (and I’m smart…)”
hey hotflash — how ya doing tonight?
Hey, I’m in CLeveland! Where is your BIL?
Oh, yeah…see my 68, second graf.
I don’t even like to drive late on an ordinary Sat. night!
And I notice the intra-family shootings, fueled by partying, have begun, too.
Hope there won’t be any shooting into the sky to celebrate this year.
when my sister’s (at the time) husband was stationed in england, it seems like either i was waking them up or they were waking me up whenever there was a call. we never did get the hang of it and i was real happy when his next assighment was in az
Here’s who the PBS guide says was on the 12/24 show:
“Oh, oops, i forgot Hawaii is 5 hours EARLIER.”
No doubt…! Even worse when DST kicks in…! 8-(
ce! how was your day?
congrats on snagging the happy lucky 99 tut!!!
Shaker Heights.
“I love country music, (and I’m smart…)”
*heh* I resemble that remark…! *g*
Sheesh. They call at home? Or are they just getting the recording in the office?
I admit, I have trouble remembering exactly how many hours the time difference is, but I do know it’s quite a bit.
When I worked 10-hr days on the phone at Chase, I knew the end of the day was near when the Hawaii calls began coming in. ; )
There was certainly some near me and I also heard sirens shortly thereafter. :
*heh* Anything for ya, M’dear…! ;-)
yes, need to find it…
I’m laughing out loud. I remember why you chose the “happy lucky 99″…. isn’t life fun!?
Home = office. Unfortunately, the “office phone” is not sufficiently isolated, so we hear it whenever it rings.
And with two “young adult” kids + the time difference, it could be one of them calling in an emergency.
“Two”, classic TZ episode on SYFY now, with Charles Bronson and Elizabeth Montgomery, each from enemy armies and confronting each other after much of civilization has been destroyed. A favorite….
if ya can’t, the office will give ya a duplicate
*heh* I’m glad you made the connection too, Dearie…! Less prone, eh…? *g*
Ick. I was here the year a little girl was killed by one of those shots, thereby proving “what goes up must come down.” Long enough now that I’m shamed to admit I can’t remember her name. Used to know it.
The shooting died down for a few years, but…the idiots who enjoy it aren’t good learners.
Well, thanks. Rang my Tibetan bell on my front walk at midnight, now I’m just chillin’ with da LateNight peeps and listening to machinama. My favourites this week are a pair by The Guild, one live action, the other machinama
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urNyg1ftMIU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmVSQ2DrBUo
My critters (6 cats) are staying inside, they don’t like the noise. Well, they’re cats, so they they are not big into exertion of any sort.
How’s by you? And Token?
And they’ve been given pretty much free reign to do whatever stupid shit they want to do.
Wait. Bronson’s eating chicken legs OUT OF A CAN???????
Ooh, thanks for the heads-up…switching…my, aren’t they both young and sexy? Vaguely recall episode…very vaguely.
The Prosecco is doing its work…getting..sleepy…may…not..make the end..of even…the TZ episode…
token and bailey cat both got a little skittish when the folks with the house out on the far point were lighting off fireworks over the bay but its quieted down here.
of course, its not midnight yet.
token is doing a dayam fine job of pre-cleaning my plate of any trace of the bacon and biscuits. bailey cat is curled up next to the wood stove dreaming kitty dreams
I was in Costco this morning and folks were streaming out of there with SHOPPING CARTS full of firecrackers.
Needless to say, our four pooches are all inside and will remain so. There’s a real problem here with pets and firecrackers.
Wow. At Costco? At least here you have to go to the fireworks dealers, and they’re all out on the edge of town.
The last two fireworks-traditonal holidays there were no fireworks; the drought had things so dry all the govt. entities forbade even selling them, and even cancelled the official displays. Tonight’s the first time they’ve been allowed since…rained most of this month.
yikes!
Yup, Costco, land of liquor & fireworks.
All that’s missing are guns & ammo.
Wonderful. We spent the afternoon walking the West SIde of Cleveland. Brunch with MsCE and her lovely BF. We have been at home since 3:00. I made a roast chicken, with yams and salad. Fire, candles, chocolates. Hello!
then it would be walmart
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many personal fireworks all at the same time. Some of them from my balcony. (They’re a bit fuzzy but overall I’m impressed with this camera.)
whatcha got planned for tomorrow?
Hmmm. Trying to remember why I ever thought Charles Bronson was ugly…something about him…the way he walked? Dunno, but he holds your attention on screen.
holy moly!!! dayam i’ve seen some professional displays that didn’t have that many
jeez, not to go all political (snark attack) but where’s Ron Paul when you need him????
Film actors never die, they just fade to black & white….
Well, at least the guns are well regulated here, MM…! ;-)
Wow! Not surprised…they’ve been suppressing the urge for two holidays now…
So the new camera does video, too, huh? Very nice.
When I was still married and lived over near Kelly(ex-AFB), lots of our neighbors set off fireworks. We stayed home then ’cause we were afraid if we left we’d come home to a burned-out shell…
Often wet down the yard in the early evening.
People are crazy for fireworks in some parts of this town, no question.
Charles Bronson — hawt; Justin Bieber — nawt. :)~
Hmm. This TZ ep is fascinating. Bronson’s uniform reminds me of a US civil war uniform, southern, I guess, and Montgomery’s looks a lot like the Soviet WWII…
We are expecting a blizzard by Sunday night. I’m making Swedish meatballs and noodles tomorrow (today). Reading (“Necropolis: London and its Dead). Well, you know where I come from…
Yeah. I remember when Young Son and I were driving across the country, I had to go into Wal-Mart for something and was AMAZED to see all the weapons for sale there!!
Re fireworks: actually they’re only allowed to be sold here a few days a year [July 4 & New Year's], and they can’t be sold on Oahu at all. Husband told me folks were buying them here to take back to Oahu, but I can’t imagine TSA looking favorably on transporting fireworks, whether in checked or carry-on baggage.
OTOH, it is Hawaii, and they know the fireworks/no fireworks sales rules, so maybe it’s okay with them. I know people come over here to buy Krispy Kreme donuts [we have a shop; they don't] and take them back to Oahu to sell. Every time I’m on a flight to Honolulu, there’s at least one passenger with a bunch of Krispy Kreme boxes.
Interestingly, Carlos Santana just did a gig with Justin Bieber on ABC’s ‘Rocking New Years Eve’…! ;-)
yikes! sounds like a fine way to spend a winter blizzard — eating and reading…
LOL!
explosives always get such a big reaction outta the tsa… bet only the darwin award types would try something so stupid
When Dick Clark dies, he’ll still be hosting ABC’s “Rocking New Years Eve” as a hologram…..
*heh* There’s certainly enough of those awardees in these here parts…! ;-)
OK finally turned off tv. Yea! MrCE left for the land of sleep. I’m strangely energized at this late hour.
Well, made it to the end of the episode.
a philogical note: “prokrasniy”- pretty similar to slavic roots of Russian words for pretty. Wonder if Serling wrote this one himself?
I know….but it all kinda creeps me out…..like we’re going back to Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby and …. sure they were great and all…but really…
It’s the company.
OMG that is freaky.
Well, I think I shall toddle off to bed, hopefully to sleep.
My New Year’s resolution is to get organized again, including getting up and going to bed at reasonable hours.
G’nite, and a good new year to everyone.
Party hearty, M’dear…! ;-)
Suzanne how are you? Happy New Year! I am ashamed to not say hello until 2:30 our time.
Tickets purchased…
g’nite tejan — hippo gnu deer

I can’t wait! We will rent a car in Hilo. Home Away gave us a wonderful house five minutes from the beach. We are just two old ladies who want sunshine and sea.
it sounds so wonderful! by march you will be needing that warm sunshine
don’t forget – i travel vicariously through you – pictures are mandatory
We are just two old ladies who want sunshine and sea.
I’ll gurantee ya the sea, but, the Sunshine might be a bit problematic here in Hilo…! *g*
Oh man, we have such a year planned.
March: Marsha and me in Hawai”i
March: Me in Toronto

Okay!

September: MrCE, MsCE and me in Berlin and Munich
Ooh, Almost in time for Oktoberfest in Munchen…! Best time ever to visit Bavaria…! ;-)
One day! My boss is freaking out. I arrive home at night, and leave the next morning for Toronto. On top of that, our passports are resting in DC awaiting for renewal.
All beerfest, all of the time!
they will be in your hands before ya know it — i’ve heard those delays a couple years ago are a thing of the past
one of these days, i’m gonna travel.
my bucket list is fulla of travel destinations — bavaria is on it
I know that is true. Taking new passport photos was hilarious and traumatic. God, I’m old and gray.
The Black Forest and Neuschwanstein Castle would be a close second and third behind Oktoberfest…! ;-)
wanna eat my way across europe
MrCE and I know that our opportunity to travel has been the best part of our jobs/lives. We are so, so fortunate.
That said, Happy New Year to Suzanne, CT, Margot and all my very dear FDL friends. I love you guys. Seriously.

g’nite spur — hippo gnu deer

CE, you coming to TO? Let me know and we’ll do something. You are pro’ly already booked for the art gallery and the ROM, but do you know about the Bata shoe Museum? Or the Gardiner (ceramics)? or the Textile Museum? not to mention our forts and historic sites, all spiffed up for the War of 1812 bicentenary.
