The latest Iowa Republican poll is out trying to predict the caucus, a process of people often coalescing around their second choices — in this case, the person who hates gay people who have abortions the next most intensely.
Twenty-five percent of people questioned say if the caucuses were held today, they’d most likely back Mitt Romney, with 22% saying they’d support Rep. Ron Paul of Texas. Romney’s three point margin is within the poll’s sampling error.
And what’s more, Rick Santorum’s support has tripled in the last few days, leading to a most unfortunate headline.

Obama 2012! F-Yeah! USA!USA!USA! “Like a Virgin, touched for the very FIRST time”.
Another odd heading; The Republican of Choice. Is that oxymoronic?
Rick Santorum’s just too nice a guy to draw the fire of Restore Our Failure, amirite?
Some one who says he wants small government to tell women what their family life must be is not ‘nice’.
Good Morning all,
Ricky was my senator, what a righteous ass. The family portrait ,with the still born baby he brought home to meet and greet the kids, should seal the deal with the fundies.
“Nice” in an icky Joel Osteen kind of way.
Restore Our Failure is the future of American politics. You can tell your grandchildren you were there at the beginning of the end.
Will Frothy the Slow-man get his day in the sun? Stay tuned.
So Santorum is the next Not-Mitt. Newt is flaming out as predicted. Too bad, I was really looking forward to 9 months of Newt explaining himself.
Other than strong pro-life credentials, I’m not sure what Rick Santorum brings to the table.
Boxturtle (Other than being Not-Mitt)
Bachmann! Bachmann! Rah! RAH!! RAH!!!!
Boxturtle (What can I say? Sometimes I just want to watch the world burn)
Apparently being not Mitt is enough these days. How much you wanna bet the Obama people would love to face Santorum?
Maybe if he converts to fundamentalism.
Iowa evangelicals can coalesce around Santorum, like they did around Huckabee last time. Restore Our Failure has been kept awake tonight pondering the advisability of burning their bridges by training their fire on the Good Ship Foetusjar.
I think the only one they worry about in the clown car is Mitt. But Santorum won’t be nearly as much fun to play with is Newt would be.
Boxturtle (I think Obama also worries about “generic republican”)
And Santorum can certainly beat Newt and Perry in Virginia. :-)
Boxturtle (Though I think Margaret was right yesterday: Newt didn’t want on that ballot)
I am evil enough to want the left to start a campaign for saving the life of unborn babies with illustrations all showing non-white babies available for loving.
Willard is the only one in the clown car that can defeat Obama so I’d hafta agree with that.
Which is why Restore Our Failure might give him a pass.
That might make some heads explode. There’s a whole lotta overlap between the racist right and the religious right.
Ruth@15: Don’t forget to push for expanded pre-natal care for those babies. Perhaps a national health plan, single payer public option, to ensure that the unborn get the best available medical care.
Boxturtle (Oops! more cranial explosions!)
A good debate question would be ” Is Jesus White ?”
Poppy Bush is behind Romney. He will probably end up being the candidate. Nobody wants to go against the Monster Bush Clan and their ties.
Heretic!!! Blasphemer!!! Not only is Jesus white, but he has strongly european features and speaks perfect english.
Boxturtle (I think he also owns a Ruger .357)
Funny. They will pretend anything for a vote and to create hate.
Except, it would seem, the GOP primary voters.
Boxturtle (Ingrates. After all BushCo has done for them!)
Overlap? Heard some one pointing out that the membership roll of the John Birch Society could be used in contacting teeparty folks.
It’s only the unborn that get their attention, tho.
I’m looking forward to Newt’s meltdown Tuesday night. Lack of a ground game and inch-deep support in a caucus state will net him a finish below the top three.
Would anyone like a dose of Nostalgia this morning? See if you remember these.
Boxturtle (I miss York Steak House. But now I know the only one remaining is near where I work!)
Now, now. Don’t get too far ahead just yet. We still have the entire month of January for them to bank roll the propaganda flics. You’ll be seeing everything about the man in every media outlet. Well…not the magic underwear, but everything else that could possibly be twisted to good for a gooper.
There was a time when a record player was synonymous with Victrola chez mine. And the great spotted dog listening to big horn speaker was in a downtown store here so long it’s still there in my mind’s eye when I go by.
The more people see Mitt, tho, the less they like him. Plastic has more ooomph.
The headline doesn’t even mention Ron Paul. The media must really hate that guy.
Did it have the phrase “His masters voice” on it? If so, I really wish I had it. I’d frame that for the wall in my Media Room.
Boxturtle (I can call it a media room if it has a TV and a radio in it, right?)
I think Newt is preparing all of us for a poor showing since he said a number of times in the last few days that a 4th or 5th place finish would still not force him to stop campaigning.
We live close enough to Iowa (and Wisconsin) that his comments have been all over the Dubuque,Iowa paper. Wolf Blitzer even came to Dubuque to interview him, he is that important.
That’s the one. Collectors’ items, indeed.
Ruth@35: That’s an original, then. They removed that phrase on the tins early on. I saw one on an episode of American Pickers. I found it amusing watching them try to pretend it wasn’t much while their eyes said “Mine. MINE. MINE!!!!”
Boxturtle (I wish I could remember what they paid)
sad to see FDL has become an outlet for MSM spin. what a shame. If you looked at CNN poll it was with republican voters only. the poll done by the PPP included independents and dems and Rp led by 37%.
also note of caution when reporting on poll numbers it is IMPT to check where the sample was taken from. Maybe FDl will do this going forward and not post MSM BS as is
Ugh, is that true? My revulsion knows no bounds.
I guess I am that evil, too. ;-)
And he never got circumcised lol.
oh, you will get to watch the world burn alright – no matter who wins this dog and pony show….
I think even noticing the polls shows that you have fallen for the MSM corporate spin, unless you are just really bored today with nothing better to do.
It’s all just kabuki. Even the Young Turks are falling into that trap, particularly since Cenk went to Current. It’s all about the Repbulican idiotic primary. Who cares? Yes they are insane, yes they know no bounds. They are appealing to their base. Just like Obama when he spouts progressive nonsense.
The one thing they share in common is that neither side means it. They will soon be the same boring middle of the road crap that we’ve come to expect from our political elites. Soon you won’t be able to tell Republican nominees from Obama.
They all work for the same people and get paid accordingly. Our interests are not on the table. Really sad what outlets like TYT or Thom Hartmann (or even this place) are becoming.
