The truly hilarious thing about Gingrich screwing up his petition for the ballot is that it is his current state of residence and has been for sometime. Certainly since he married his current wife the Chicken Lady.
All part of Newt’s legacy as a lawmaker, and here’s another.
Between 1984 and 2009, the median net worth of a member of the House more than doubled, according to the analysis of financial disclosures, from $280,000 to $725,000 in inflation-adjusted 2009 dollars, excluding home equity.
Over the same period, the wealth of an American family has declined slightly, with the comparable median figure sliding from $20,600 to $20,500, according to the Panel Study of Income Dynamics from the University of Michigan.

About Firedoglake
Thanks, Atta. It’s about jobs, jobs, jobs. Not yours, theirs.
I was deprived spending the ’90s without cable teevee.
A quick snapshot of Republican candidates’ estimated net worth shows:
Mitt Romney: $190 million – $250 million
Michele Bachmann: $1.3 million – $2.8 million
Ron Paul: $2.25 million – $5 million
Rick Perry: at least $1.1 million
Jon Huntsman: $16 million – $71 million
Newt Gingrich: at least $6.7 million
Rick Santorum: $880,000 – $1.9 million
And lest we forget,
Barack Obama: $7.3 million
Politicians are not like you and me.
Paying off your elected officials I have been told is most effectively done by arranging for them to buy something such as land cheaply, then sell again very high, all to and from those needing political favors that are then received.
Good morning, Ruth. Not to mention the grand prize at “retirement”, where they reap the rewards of years of “service”.
It’s a long, hard slog for the rest of us.
We are their job creators, seems like.
Or, the system created their positions, but they created their jobs.
Good Morning, Ruth.
Hi, demi, indeed, looks like the job they were elected to do got lost.
It’s a mess, that’s for sure. I’d mention finance campaign reform, but that concept doesn’t do anything good for them. It’s their game, and they make the rules.
All I get to decide on is what’s for dinner.
Good morning, pups. It’s Brooks and Nocera today. Bobo has decided to tell us all about “Midlife Crisis Economics.” He says the Obama administration used to like to compare today’s problems to those that led to the Great Depression. But they differ in many ways. Well, to be truthful today’s problems may be more like the Panic of 1893, that followed The Gilded Age… Mr. Nocera, in “Glass’s Road to Redemption,” says after years of making amends for his former career as a fabulist at The New Republic, Stephen Glass has earned the right to practice law.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a variety of bagels with cream cheese. It looks like we’re in for rain this morning and lots of wind this afternoon. And temperatures in the mid to high 60′s. This isn’t the December weather I’ve gotten used to, but maybe it’s the new normal, given what our last 2 summers were like. Have a great day.
Thanks, Marion, a major likeness to the Great Depression is the cause of financial breakdown being domination and fraudulent practices by the mogul horde. Noticed that there is a snowless, warm winter also in Afghanistan, very unusual weather for them, too.
Pardon my sleepy head, but can someone tell me the significance of the photo of the blond at the top, please?
That’s Chicken Lady, who bears a striking resemblance to the present Mrs. Newt; http://clatl.com/freshloaf/archives/2011/05/19/separated-at-birth-calista-gingrich-and-the-chicken-lady
Considering this
http://www.desdemonadespair.net/2011/12/50-doomiest-stories-of-2011.html
There won’t be much left to appreciate.
Oh, thanks. There is a remarkable resemblance.
I never watched Kids In The Hall, so I was lost.
What a beak. You’d think with all that money, oh, nevermind. I don’t really care how she looks. It’s what she sees that bothers me.
Woke up on the Sunny Side of Life, did you?
I can easily believe that Perry’s failure in Virginia was unintentional but it’s my opinion that Newtie didn’t want on that ballot. I don’t think he’s running for President, I think he’s fundraising. When Newt saw his numbers rising to the top of the field, the only way to ensure he wouldn’t face the possibility of election was to make sure he “missed” a couple of big primary states. I don’t have anything to base that on but I believe it.
How interesting. Newt didn’t qualify. Without Virginia, which is as much a of a stronghold as Newt can claim, I’m not sure I see a path for Newt to the nomination. He’d have to beat Mitt in the northeast and Perry in the west.
Boxturtle (Mitt is laughing)
We’ve heard of Fear of Failure, and even Fear of Success. What’s his fear? Responsibility? He’s had it before. Or, would being president be too much glass for him?
I agree Newt’s not in it to win it. He’s actually apron stringing after Huckabee, but too late to pull it off.
She looks scary. I think her beautician is a mortitician.
Boxturtle (I look at her and I think of Phyllis Diller, only not as funny)
Take a look at Jerry Jones, for a resemblance, too. It’s the effect of continually stretching those facial tissues.
I just think it’s about dollar signs with him. He can’t make as much money being president as he can by lobbying. And some “left over” campaign money would put that Tiffany’s bill to rest nicely.
Gotta go to work. I hope everybody has a nice day.
Yes. I think you’re absolutely correct. More money. Less work. More beak.
Sorry, it might be too early in the morning to imagine More Beak.
I think you’ve probably nailed it. He may also be angling for a spot in a shadow cabinet, or just being known as the “wise man” of the party. [shudder]
MIGHT be? Is there ever a time when you really feel you want to imagine More Beak? (That is one hell of a proboscis, though…)
That’s a very interesting theory. It sure makes more sense to me than the thought that Newt screwed up the ballot in his home state.
Boxturtle (Wonder if he’s working on yet another book?)
Newt’s house certainly has glass walls, but if he owns the media, the DoJ and the White House I’m not sure what he has to fear.
Heck, the last two presidents have confessed to war crimes publically. One is still president and coasting to re-election, the other is cutting brush without fear of arrest.
Boxturtle (I’m sure Newt can see some advantages to owning DoJ that we’re not aware of)
“wise men” of GOP = ability to tie own shoes? Ability to read childrens books aloud? Ability to raise money?
Boxturtle (Since you must deny science to win a GOP election, perhaps you didn’t mean “Wise men”?)
Wisdom inside Goopers; Ability to stick on message from MOTU, more my impression.
Dang! Forgot that one. But that would mean that Gov’s Walker, Kasich, and Scott are all wise men.
Boxturtle (Well, I suppose if you only compare them to other GOPers…)
Well, yes, if the goopers are doing the definitions, wise = rich.
Morning Pups,
As mentioned above, the wisdom of being able to follow instructions to the letter. Walker just confuses which messages come from campaign donors and which come from almighty dog.
Meanwhile, more A.L.E.C. angling from WI legislature.
Do you mean all this chinese shit I bought isn’t worth anything?
Now that he can drink again, I doubt that exercise is necessary (old addict trick; exercise).
So it’s the “Chicken Lady”! I kwew I knew her from somewhere and it turns out it’s a package of purdue skinless breasts.
“Aw, Newt should leave the Germans out of this.” Stupid Perry, everyone knows Al Quaeda bombed Pearl Harbor.
Did he really say this or is this a mean Rick Perry joke?
There were three Axis powers. Perry could only recall the Italians and the Germans lol.
