What’s on your mind tonite…?
Hiya CT!
How is the weather?
Aloha, Chris…! A mixed plate today…! Had some Sun this Morn but it’s been raining ever since…!
How’s Ohio tonite…?
When I was your age I thought her name rhymed with daze. *g*
To put the Diamonds and Rust song into it’s proper perspective…
Blowing in the wind…
We hoped for snow, but got high sunshine and 40′s. Just having sunshine was wonderful.
*heh* A common malady…! ;-)
Aloha, Aitch…! *g*
The Pasadena Freeway is a Hotbed of Social Unrest:
http://freewayblogger.blogspot.com/2011/12/pasadena-freeway-is-hotbed-of-social.html
Bay area next.
You totally Rawk, Scarlet…! *g*
How was your Xmas weekend…?
Lovely to see you!
Aloha, CT!
And we thought ‘Dylan’ was something like Dialin, being ignorant and not knowing there was a Dylan Thomas. In truth, my college Sociology prof played Bob and Joan to our class, turned me on to them but not in those words, which were five years away… *g*
Just a drive by howdy to all and CT . . .
CT ya pulled a beau there in that vid, one of Mz. Baez’s most haunting ever. Goes right up in top 2 with ‘Hello In There’.
Nice catch CT, best to you and yours, same to all LLN Firebaggers.
*waves*
You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere…
Aloha, Larue…! Give the Missus a big hug for me…! *g*
Very nice – lots of family fun – and quite a bit of painting… Gorgeous weather in southern cal.
Wassup with that slang ‘Ain’t'?
An update for y’all…! Suz has had a string of bad luck and has been computerless since Xmas Eve, one is on the way, (*yeah* Newt…! *g*) but, she asked me to fill in for her tuesday and wednesday nites, so ya’ll are stuck with me til thursday…! Sorry…! *g*
*heh* Say it Ain’t so, Joe…! ;-)
Belated merry christmas to all, and to all — evening, CT … firegods
Where have All The Flowers Gone…
another Fave of mine, good enough for Led Zeppelin to thieve.
I’m Gonna Leave You

Mele Kalikimaka, PPD…! I hope ya had a wonderful Xmas…!
CT u asked for it http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2011/12/morgenson-on-the-sham-of-the-occs-foreclosure-reviews.html she has had a ton of posts on foreclosure so go back in the archives for the ones on taking a house that was foreclosed back.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aabZ9CzNY98 Rain rain go away
It’s no coincidence that with Steve Jobs gone, Newtonuser fills the vacuum… :-)
Does this mean Suzanne will be like CE, and with a backlit keyboard?
Aloha, strato…! Great clip…! I hope all is well…!
Mahalo, bb…! I shall be spreading the Aloha…! ;-)
I did, thanks — how’s everything in paradise with you and your family, CT?
Thanks, and to you and all. Speaking of belated, I left brownies and Kahlúa for Santa and he’s still here. Put the headphones on him to hear and watch the Diamonds and Rust video, and he goes in a very loud voice not being used to the headphones, “Hey, this is better than the Gene Autry I always listen to!”
*heh* Suz laughed when I’d asked her about the Mac learning curve…! She said Newt does have windows on it…! ;-)
I learned with BASIC, then we got Windows boxes in our offices, then I bought a Mac — a Mac has no learning curve. :-)
Could always be better these days, but, we’re doing alright…!
Can’t neglect Dylan…
Just like Tom Thumb’s blues…
I’m taking suggestions for tuesday and wednesday nite’s, I’m eclectic…! ;-)
Hurricane…
A cutaway one-and-a half in a Speedo?
I remember Diamonds & Rust very well — was living in Chicago at the time. Eagles — The Best of My Love. Dylan — Blood on the Tracks, etc.
I actually saw Rubin fight Emile Griffith in person…
I look positively awful in a Speedo…! My drumstick legs clash with my slight beer belly…! ;-)
Paul Thorn.
Delbert.
Lee Roy Parnell with ThatGuy
Waylon
One More Waylon
Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door…
Aloha, ThatGuy…! Alright…! I’ll feature those on Wednesday…! ;-)
Thanks for asking: December 20, 1963, the new Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. Don’t believe the press reports, Griffith sat down, I was sitting very close, he was smiling while on his ass. In a few months The Beatles would play there…
Another fine female voice, Grace Slick, with her very cannibal song.
Silver Spoon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNid32DN-ys
And a song about pleasures of the flesh.
Across the Board
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeRxu35xknI
On the Starship’s Greatest hits CD, Miracles is edited to a G rating. :-(
Never followed Boxing all that much, tho, I do remember the Ali/Frazier matchups and did follow the Tyson trainwreck…!
*heh* I do remember Gracie back in the day…! ;-)
Lather…
“Kids today can’t spell ‘fight””… (from a cop’s — now retired, my bff — poem, he runs 3 boxing gyms and hosts the Golden Gloves in Pgh. He met Ali in the ring in Chicago).
I also vaguely recall some old TV show called the Smothers Brothers…
Crown of Creation…
You didn’t follow boxing, but Ali followed music. When the music ‘changed’, Ali’s dancing changed with it. In Germany, 1966 (he’d been stripped of his title and license), against Karl Mildenburger, Ali never sits down between rounds, he’s ‘listening’ to music in his head. Watch the bout, the way he punches in boogaloo rhythm…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xB4dbdNSXY Imagine all the assholes got the message that war was never the answer.
This is still my all-time fave, bb…
For What It’s Worth…
Joan Baez talking about her husband’s incarceration on the show pretty much put the nail in the coffin and led to the show’s cancellation.
*wow* For real…? Learn something new every day, if one’s not careful…! ;-)
from the wiki for The Smothers Brothers
*wow* …who was entering jail after refusing military service…
A true Patriot…!
I always thought Joan was gravy-training off her husbands doing time. Perfect voice, but living the rock star life while hubby’s in the hoosegow?
This is even better than For What its Worth for a revolutionary theme
Flowers of the Night
Paul Kantner and Grace
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9hEMA_lYDs
*heh* Freedom…
Speaking of Woodstock… Country Joe…
Who else dated Bob Dylan and Steve Jobs, hnnh?
My daughter is on personal speaking/email terms with Gracie, Marty, and Paul, FWIW… *g*
Jobs too…? ;-)
Did Grace? How eclectic! Very catholic ( in the universal sense)
That would be kewl…! ;-)
Hey Joe…
Lather is one of my top ten all-time beautiful songs, along with Coming Back to Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfnCSoAIAOE
Tell your daughter to pass along that they were among the best of our time
Don’t know about Grace. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bonnie and Linda dated Jobs. (Is that a *whoosh*?)
Here’s another on that list
The Mamas and the Papas “Dancing Bear”
flawless vocals, instrumentation, lyrics and imagery
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM_zeT2xmD0
Well, she’s 45, was 13 when I got Octopus for her and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, she loves Stevie and Lindsay much much much more than me… *g*
I certainly enjoyed every evolution from Jefferson Airplane to Starship…!
Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us…
My daughter and I were walking on the avenue near Pitt, and I spotted Timothy Leary inquiring at the box office of the King’s Court Theater where a Cheech and Chong movie was playing. Leary was giving a lecture that evening at Carnegie-Mellon U. He was wearing a white blouse and white trousers. I asked my daughter if she knew who he was. She said No. I said it’s Timothy Leary. She asked Who? I asked her Did you ever hear the expression ‘Turn on, tune in, and drop out’? She said, Is he a rock star?
“Haven’t gotten sick once, probably keep us both alive” (Yeah, a cover, but it’s the one loaded in my car)
Why do I feel a sense of Déjà vu… Eve of Destruction…
Time to call it a day. Next time you might suggest contributions on a theme, like beautiful songs, or top five war movies, or worst voices who made it big (Dylan, Cohen, etc)
Final thought while watching that Hey Joe vid.
Was there ever a more perfect blending of movie and music than the beginning to Apocalypse Now with “The End” by the doors
She said, Is he a rock star? *snort* No, but, lick this and he will be…! ;-)
Definite generational dating method. as good as carbon 14.
“What was your draft number?”
Apocalypse Now was the total package…!
Pleasant dreams, strato…!
My kid brother is 9 years younger than me. One time, I guess I was 18 or so, I took a hit of windowpane and took him to Astroworld.
It was…Intense.
Now I’ll shut up.
Ironically, I’ve never partaken, tho, I’ve been offered everything from the ‘blue barrels,’ to Sugar Cubes, and even the stamps…! Always declined because I’d heard too many horror stories, from too many Acid heads…! ;-)
The exclusive premiere (full version, first ‘alternate ending’ , 70mm, ‘Sensurround’) opened in four cities: NYC, DC, LA, and Toronto. I drove to Toronto to see it on a screen bigger than a duplex.
Country Joe was imo the most articulate and sane sounding hallucinogenic evangelist.
*heh* I’m Jealous…! ;-)
Suz we need mod clean up on My FDL some spammer sent in a bunch of diaries to sell ug? boots.
*heh* Don’t take the Brown Tabs…! ;-)
TCU, Suz is down and out for the count, but, the Day Crew will clean it up, if not sooner…!
Aloha, TCU…! Are ya still in LA…?
When I saw that scene — mind you I hadn’t exhaled for 40 minutes yet — I knew I’d witnessed one of the greatest movie moments of all time.
“Ironically”, that’s a boxing metaphor.
Yep
It certainly ranks up there with Here’s looking at you, kid…! ;-)
Right alongside “I’m Shocked, I tell you…”
Trying to get a tan before I go back to chicago on the 5th.
Did you have a great Xmas, TCU…?
iirc, Lisa Derrick recently posted that she used to be a neighbor of John Milius, who wrote AN. Wonder if she had an influence…
It was good lots of food:)
I’m Shocked…
Wonder if she had an influence…
*heh* Probably the other way around…! ;-)
It’s on TCM tomorrow (Tuesday), so’s The Maltese Falcon (“Oh, it wasn’t your story we believed, Miss Wunderly, it was your two-hundred dollars…”), and The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre (“Nobody gets over on Fred C. Dobbs”)
Well, the Better Half is snoozing away and is making me sleepy with the droning…! I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu for the evening…! I hope to see ya’ll tomorrow nite and aren’t too discouraged with Suz’s untimely luck…!
Mahalo for ya’lls patience and persistence…! *g*
Aloha Oe…!
Aloha, CT, and many thanks!
Suppose you already know this. She wrote Ds and Rust about her relationship (1 sided) w/ Bob Dylan. A masterpiece. She opened the Rolling Thunder Review concerts, solo w/ this song.
One from her sister. There used to be a version online with both Joan and Mimi singing with Richard, but it doesn’t seem to be around anymore.
