As he is wont to do, future Iowa Caucus second-place at best finisher, Newt Gingrich has a tendency to say rather stupid things in an extra dickish manner — how dare a day go without him dropping a verbal deuce:
We’ve had an invented Palestinian people who are in fact Arabs and are historically part of the Arab community and they had a chance to go many places. And for a variety of political reasons we have sustained this war against Israel since the 1940s.
Of course, the United States has long stood in theory for a people’s right to self-determination (as long as they aren’t commies) including the Palestinians, both Republican and Democratic Presidents.
But who cares, there are votes to get.
And there are many in the GOP more than willing to go along with the moronic talking point de jour.
I jumped up out of my chair and cheered for Newt when he said what he said about Palestine. — Rudy Giuliani
I hope Bernie Kerik didn’t hurt himself when he was knocked off Rudy’s lap during visitation.

About Firedoglake
The satisfaction that nomination of the likes of a newt to the office of president provides the lizard brain element apparently is providing an example of what appeals to the right that hasn’t been seen since the impeachment proceedings against the Presidency of Bill Clinton.
Good morning, Ruth. Or since Barry Goldwater.
In your guts, you know they’re nuts.
That they are, Stony… ‘Netanyahu firsters’…
At least they’re dependable.
House hearings on MFGlobal showing that by fighting off regulations, the right has enabled another disaster. New toxic asset; repo market, the properties that have been repossessed, now available in bundles at mark to market value. Nobody sane wants these.
Gingrich is right in this case. ‘Palestinians’ are Arabs who were offered a Two State solution more than once but always refused. There already is a Two State solution, however, it’s called Jordan and Israel.
Sieg Heil! ["Hail victory!"]
That toxic asset disaster will have to wait its turn. Rehypothecation’s next.
which looks like it means invented assets, a.k.a. toxic
Rehypothecation means the borrower still owns the asset used as collateral , for instance a mortgage , the bank has to take out a lean to claim the property
I don’t see anything wrong with this type of loan and I believe it gives the consumer added protection
okay, it was a weak joke.
but anything that indicates the lender is protecting the consumer does not convince me.
Good morning, pups. This is shaping up to be a very good day. Bobo and Mr. Cohen are off, so Prof. Krugman has the floor to himself. In “G.O.P. Monetary Madness” he says when it comes to views on economics, Republicans have been consistent, clear and wrong.
Here he is.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got apple cranberry muffins today. I’ve got the day off today (and Monday too — YAY!) so this is when the house will be decorated, the tree trimmed, and the last of the cookie baking will happen. I think I’m going to try some white chocolate cranberry cookies for the first time. Have a great day.
of course if the bank or business is taking out a loan from the government they can destroy the asset at will At will
Not a good loan
Congratulations, you evidently have managed to forget Sarah Palin. Whose fatal flaw, IMO, is that she is female. And unable to impliment two sentences in a row with both a subject and verb. As proof I offer GWB.
The lizard brain is alive and well and as imprevious to reality as ever.
Well, at least Newt acknowledged that Palistinians are people. That’s a step forward.
How many UN resolutions and past presidents did he just flush? And he’s the best the GOPers got?
Boxturtle (I hear GOPers laughing “Well, is Obama the best YOU’VE got?”)
The fact that these “candidates” are actually in the running for the Presidency is an indictment of the intelligence of the voting public.
Nope. You can’t be sure they’re properly valued. You can’t be sure you’ve got clear title. And you know they’re going to be going down in value for at least the next few years.
But as long as they don’t sell, the banks can carry the poperties on their books at full value.
Boxturtle (i’d be a bidder at about 30 cents on the dollar)
Don’t know that you can blame the voters so much for the poor choices we’re offered. Even the GOPers know they have a bunch of losers running. We know our side has a loser running.
Boxturtle (Blames the system)
Max Kaiser devotes part of a recent show to rehypothecation and it sounds like some really bad mojo.
Good morning all.
If god had wanted us to vote he would have given us candidates.
Thanks, Marion, and enjoy the baking – a friend of mine had the furnace fail just about this time of year, and found baking cookies a really nice substitute.
And around here, copper theft occurs regularly in those empty properties. and the not empty ones. Scary stuff.
Can I get the t-shirt please.
Christopher Hitchens died.
I only do bumper stickers. :-)
Today is Bradley Manning day. Tomorrow is his 24th birthday.
With the exception of Paul, I think every GOP candidate has claimed Divine Guidence. Can’t say God hasn’t provided!
Boxturtle (Is it the apocalyse? Does God just want to watch the world burn?)
I wonder if the promoters of Britain’s Newt Beer Festival are embarrassed by the antics of America’s former Speaker of the House.
There was an arrest here recently where the fellow had somehow obtained a Faraday suit and was stealing LIVE wires.
Boxturtle (I guess all the non-energized wires were already taken)
She’s having a good laugh at the alpha male leaders we’ll follow over a cliff, R&D both
You’re not exactly impressing me with your own intelligence when you spout that line.
Given the amount of misinformation in the system and how many directions it comes from, it’s not surprising that some folks fall for it, whatever their level of intelligence. A person using their own intelligence — rather than their ego — would be aware of that.
She has planned for humans the same fate as for chimps.
To take your example a bit further, the reason is that there is normally a sound appraisal of the value of the collateral posted — e.g., a house. Hypothecation in the repo market on the other hand often uses worthless collateral — over and over and over.
Some of my co-workers, who are reasonably well-educated, to a person think that Newt is an intellectual. Yeah, right, and I can coach in the NBA.
I think I will be stealing this…
Here is our god:

You mean resteal it. I can’t remember who I stole it from.
I’m also baking cookies, but nothing exotic.
Courtesy the Links post at Yves’s comes a word that could get a bracing workout in this thread, as in so many other places these days: assholocracy.
Without a devil and right wing, there wouldn’t be a good use for a god, right?
and here, I’m seeing an ad showing folks where they can find copper wire, down to extension cords with bacchanalia lights.
An intellectual is what he keeps telling us he is. And Bachman is an authority in foreign affairs.
It is a sad day for the neo-cons as they lost one of their most articulate liars and war propagandist. Hitchens was Pro-War and proud of it. He was pro-war and encouraged others to go fight his wars. But he himself, was just another coward chickenhawk.
Hitchens was not just a cheerleader for Oil wars. He also targeted antiwar critics.
George Galloway correctly describes the true Hitchens.
The tag team of a mixed compilations of the thematic terror have finally jump on The Wicked Aussome Mister Possum Newt while he was sitting in his bath tub before he could get his rubble ducks in order. That my take on the animal kingdom movie from last night.
Black on Dante and Banksters
Right, the millions of people that parrot and support the conservative and libertarian ideology are nothing more than marionettes at the mercy of forces beyond their capacity to understand. If they only knew how they are being manipulated by lying politicians, a corrupt media and amoral corporations why they’d all be transformed into raving “liberals” and revolutionaries. Try reading a little Mencken or Twain.
Galloway had a way with words; a better way than Hitchens.
If you wanna be really shocked, look at CNN where Nguyen seems to have been to Trump’s hairdresser – forgive me for being shallow.
I’d have replied ‘piffle’.
On foxfire and safari costofwars.com produces “408 forbidden” when I try to find out the cost to PA-08
Anybody else experiencing those problems ?

Thanks for inserting the most important news of the morning. He was proof that the lizard brain can be conquered.
And think the proper term that should have been used in this article by-line is “dickwad”.
Wish I was in Savannah.
A for resourcefulness-and courage. I can prove the efficacy of said suit mathematically, but that gives me little reason to personally place such faith in the good Dr. Faraday…
Not my favorite person overall, but it’s always sad when we lose an alive mind, which he certainly had.
I am more aware than most of the vast array of tools available and used to implement mindfuckery against the public, but, still, I feel that every adult has an individual obligation to surmount that and find the truth and reality by their own efforts. It’s not as though all the evidence can be truly hidden, after all. So, I have to go with Bluetoe2 on this one.
Ugghh! Too close to the truth.
