The coffee’s freshly ground, there’s a wide selection of teas and the sticky buns are homemade.
Free Bradley Manning!!
- “Adrian Lamo, the hacker who betrayed the alleged WikiLeaks source Bradley Manning to the US authorities, has said it would be to his “lasting regret” were the soldier to be given a lengthy custodial sentence.” Asshole.
- From Real News: “Bradley Manning Heads for Trial; No One Charged for Murdered Civilians. Ray McGovern introduces a short documentary deconstructing events revealed by Wikileaks.” Nice beard, Ray.
A little heavy on the economic news from Europe this morning but apparently the bus has neither a driver nor brakes and do we really know what the consequences will be for the US banking system and economy?
- “The chairman of the French central bank, Christian Noyer, has said ratings agencies should downgrade the UK before France because its economy is weaker.”
- “The full scale of big banks’ lobbying of the Chancellor, George Osborne, to get him to water down banking reforms can be revealed today. Senior bank executives met or called Treasury ministers nine times in the weeks after Sir John Vickers published his landmark proposals on how to prevent another banking crisis, The Independent can reveal.”
- “The world risks sliding into a 1930s-style slump unless countries settle their differences and work together to tackle Europe’s deepening debt crisis, the head of the International Monetary Fund has warned.”
- John Weeks in Part 3 of an interview on Real News: “Obama gave the banks time to rally opposition to severe regulations; another banking collapse is on the way.”
And now for something completely different:
- “When the World Outlawed War” David Swanson discusses his book about the 1928 Kellogg-Briand Pact and how it makes current wars illegal.
- “Researchers have spotted a giant gas cloud spiralling into the supermassive black hole at our galaxy’s centre.”
The truth will set you free but first it’ll piss you off.

About Firedoglake
Ya think?
Thanks, SD. A gas cloud plummeting into a black hole and the world economy, anyone else think that’s a parallel universe we’re seeing?
What’s my party?
Justice Party!
Go Rocky Anderson!
Mornin’, pups
A metaphor.
Good morning all,
Taking a break from PcA for a while.
“Researchers have spotted a giant gas cloud spiralling into the supermassive black hole at our galaxy’s centre.”
Scientists discovered it’s source, Endless republican “debates’, it should slow down now !
Quite a good one, well done, universe!
Tomorrow is Manning’s 24th birthday.
Justice Party
Rocky needs to get a separate site up for his campaign.
Good morning all. Thanks SoDrag.
When the gas cloud approaches the event horizon, will it spiral clockwise or counter-clockwise?
Words cannot express my contempt for Lamo. My hope is that he can never find employment ever again outside of “Government Informant”. I certainly wouldn’t hire someone like that.
Boxturtle (I also hope that someone does unto Lamo as he has done unto others)
Good idea.
When St Pete for Peace first started it didn’t take long for us to recognize that people needed to take a break now and then to prevent burnout. Had to convince some that the world wouldn’t come to an end if they didn’t show up every Saturday night and to every rally.
Let’s flush the toilet and see if the direction matters.
I was in Colombia recently and was freaking out to see the water in the crapper run straight down. Thought I was doing something wrong until I realized I was near the equator.
Vanity Fair essayist Christopher Hitchens dead at 62
*splorf*
You owe me a new keyboard.
Boxturtle (I am also angry at you because I did not think of it first)
Morning SD and Firedogs!
Somehow I don’t think that Colombia is using that as an ad for visiting there.
Evemt horizon
Good morning ’99.
Wonder if Lamo will be sending him a Happy Birthday chat message.
Hey OnS hope your doing well. Always good to hear from you.
Well, first you got to tell me which way is up. :-)
In theory, it will spin in the same direction that the underlying black hole spins. But nobody really knows.
An interesting theory is that a black hole is not really a singularity, just VERY close. This makes all the math work better (no division by zero, no infinity) and matches experimental results. They theory posits that when enough mass accumulates that we MUST form a singularity, we get a Big Bang.
Boxturtle (If the Black hole has ANY size at all, even neutrino sized, the Theory holds)
I find it ironic that the head of the IMF is warning everyone about a 1930′s style slump. The have caused most of the economic problems for the past 40 years. Give me a break.
So sorry to hear that. A great writer and fine and sincere person, and always worth reading, whether you agreed with him or not.
They might be missing an opportunity to grow their tourist industry since few gringos travel there.
Hmmmm, have to do a little more reading to see how that fits in with Membrane Theory. Big Bang = new Brane?
It may have something to do with the coverage of drug wars n’ stuff there. If only they could just flush that.
Hard to get people to visit a place where they could be kidnapped or killed by insurgents.
Hidey Ho, All You Dawgs
Thanks for the list and write ups, Southern Dragon.
You’ve got a nose for news and context. So glad you’ve taken the morning reins.
Hey Demi hope all is well. TGIF I maybe going to an Occupy St. Louis day of action tomorrow. Might be a busy weekend.
There was a time when I was a voracious reader of newspapers. *sigh*
Somewhere in the past, when we said the same thing at the same time, it was customary to recite;
Needles n’ pins, needles n’ pins,
When a man marries, his trouble begins.
no idea why
Hummmph, I gotta clean my fuckin’ kitchen tomorrow. *grump grump*
The rap is undeserved. I as down there three times in the last few years, traveling in different parts of the country, and never once felt insecure. It is an incredibly beautiful country very close to the US, with very friendly people. It’s unfortunate that the myth keeps tourists away.
The violence in Mexico is orders of magnitude worse than in Colombia and yet the gringos still vacation there. That’s the mystery.
Glad to hear you’re staying out of trouble, popeye. *g*
I don’t know what I’m doing this weekend. We’ll just have to wait and see, I guess. Used to be, when the kids were younger and in school things got pretty harried around the house.
Oh, speaking of which, I better go wrap a few presents sonny is taking to his teachers.
brb.
Lagarde said it as Hillary Clinton’s guest. Great Depresssion 2 is the dog whistle. They are coming for our money. Again.
You don’t need to wrap my present. *g*
I had a local insist to me she only stays in gated communities there, and so it’s all safe.
The article I read did suggest that. They also suggested that under string theory, it could simply explode into different dimensions and we would see nothing other than the hole vanishing.
They are currently looking for an event horizon without a hole to support their theory.
Boxturtle (IMO it would helpful if they had an idea how much mass it would take to flip the hole)
Big surprise huh?
When they were little, I always saved decorating the tree until Xmas eve, when it kept the kids occupied.
That may be a function of her personal level of paranoia rather than the actual threat level. Just sayin’.
Parallel universe material, again.
Righto, you’re just going to eat the cookies anyway. I’m hoping.
This one I suspect goes to party hearty, so doesn’t much know what’s going on anyway.
Cookies are one of mt favorite holiday foods.
Sorry for the delay. Busy for a few. Doing fine. Hope you are well also.
Company Christmas party this evening. Makes for a hectic day at work for some rreason.
Good morning! Wow, 40 minutes since the Diner opened and 50 comments already! Pass me the tea, please, I’m gonna go read! Do we have bagels with cream cheese on the menu?
Well, that’s one way of doing it.
I remember having the kids go through their rooms a few weeks before xmas and decide which toys we’d be taking down to a local shelter. They only complained the first time, then when they saw the poor kids so excited about their discards, they changed their attitudes pretty darn quick.
I remember company Christmas parties. Not much gets done at work. I never really liked them a whole lot. Have a good day and don’t drink too much. *g*
How nice for you. Man, I haven’t been to a holiday work party for such a long time. Hope you guys have a blast.
(Don’t forget. Three glasses of water and three aspirins afore you go to bed. *g*)
Comin atcha, I guess I will fill in till OmAli gets here. She is late so I guess we have to dock her pay. *g*
Fresh out of the oven. Organic or Kraft Philly cream cheese?
.
The malaise afflicting far too many people, and not just those in Colombia. Pity.
And that site needs an editor, stat! And a web designer!
I passed on our office Xmas Party. Had it at boss’s home for the first time. Last thing I wanted to do put up with boss’s ego for an evening.
Any time you see the phrase “string theory”, you should be alert. The math is so flexible that you can do almost anything with it and it allows situtations that we currently know from other means are impossible. And at the same time, it is almost impossibly complex.
There are perhaps a dozen people worldwide who REALLY understand the math. None of them is able to shoot it down.
Boxturtle (Not currently a believer in string theory)
What a terrific activity, wish I had thought of it.
Prolly all volunteer. Just a month old. They’ll get it together eventually, I hope.
Molly! Try the salmon cream cheese. On an onion bagel. Oh, yeah.
I believe in String Theory, the one that says to bad people:
String ‘em up!
Good morning, holiday pupses, and thank you, SD for hosting.
It’s a shame we can’t space holiday parties out over the entire year. It’s overwhelming, all at once. And I always find it disappointing that the day after Christmas, most people consider the holiday over. It’s just sales and returns and leftovers. Then a binge on New Year’s Eve. I like to enjoy the week in between and to keep it special, too. On Boxing Day, the 26th, we usually have something other than turkey. Doesn’t really matter what, but something that we don’t frequently prepare. Onion soup and Caesar salad, maybe.
Yeah they seem to think they are the main attraction. I guess I am a scrooge but to me it is a waste of time and money. My last party I attended was at a real expensive restaurant with an expensive spread. But there was never enough money for a raise. Go figure.
This will be our 5th with this company. Previous 4 were at a very nice steak houde. This year will be at what is reported to be a much nicer, higher end steak house. We shall see. No, I will not drink too much. Nor will I drink too little. (just sayin)
Wise choice. Been to a few of those. Yikes.
What a great idea. Need a lot more people like you.
I’m here! I’m here! You look cute in that apron, though, popeye :)_
I saw Christopher Hitchens and Dinesh D’Souza in “The God Debate” at Notre Dame just over a year ago. It was pretty interesting. My religious beliefs are with Hitchens, but I had to admit D’Souza was a good debater.
:) you should see me in a thong. LOL
Spanish Xmas is Jan. 6th, Fiesta de los tres Rejes, so we always saved the tree and a present for it.
One of my favorite breakfasts is 1/2 whole grain bagel with cream cheese, sliced smoked salmon, and tomato. And onion, but I usually skip that if I have to be in polite company later in the day. LOL.
Get a speeding ticket on the the way home?
Or line caught Nova lox, to get to the heart of the matter, on onion bagel w/ butter .
Killer good.
The most piggy head honcho I ever worked for gave hams for Xmas, so he got one for free.
I found it interesting someone asked him if he would “believe” now that he was going to die. It was from an article a while back when he first let it be known he had cancer.
I don’t know anything about the customs associated with that. I’ll do some reading, thanks! I’m embarrassed also to say I don’t know anything about Epiphany or Twelfth Night….
I’m more a fan of Lock ‘em Up.
Boxturtle (Admittedly, that’s a tough position to hold when I consider Banksters)
Ewwwwwwwwww
Subj change. You should register as popeye99 at Phoebe’s. Beats that ustream handle.
“Continued to be convinced” I bet there is a real grain of truth to that. The pitiful bastard is probably regularly administered sodium pentathol by his handlers. He’s probably in his own kind of well-deserved hell.
Yeah my wife gets a free turkey every year and a 5 pound slab of chocolate. Keeps her happy for a while. *g*
Some group had bought a motel and fixed it up to be a family shelter. At Christmas, they brought a huge truck load of snow to pile in the parking lot. The kids all had much fun playing in it. I know that must sound kind of weird to all pups who have to live with the stuff for months.
Boxing Day on the 26th is preceded by Wrapping Day, Dec 24th, with it’s usual frenzy.
No :) Would you believe, I like to drive, and sometimes push it a little, but I’ve never had a speeding ticket, knock.on.wood.
It was rainy and dark and there is a slight film on my windscreen that smears behind the wiper blades and is nasty when headlamps hit it. Need to take some ammonia or something to it..
5 lb slab of chocolate. Lordy, I’d have diabetes in a week.
Why? You expecting a visit from the Board of Health or sumpin’?
I don’t understand it well enough to be a believer, but reading about it makes my brain feel good the same way listening to certain music does. It’s kind of contemplative and calming.
I was just making sure someone is paying attention. I should register at the Phoebe site since I am an addict now. *g*
Lock them up is too lenient.
Burning at the stake, maybe?
Or would that be vegetable heaven?
There’s a product at the auto parts store that keeps the windscreen from doin’ all that wierd stuff. RainGuard or some such thing.
I am trying my damnedest to stay away from all that crap. Doing good so far.
I started on the math once. Kept right on going!
I’m going to guess he has to think that, if only to save his own sanity and sleep at night.
I think when he finally realizes what he’s done, he’ll attempt suicide.
Boxturtle (Either that, or go full blown batshit and run for president!)
Well, maybe. Be careful what you wish for.
I have to admit it seemed a good way to keep their rooms from getting out of control. On a wordplay from ‘puter language…garbage out, garbage in.
I kid, somewhat. *g*
limbo?
or if it’s his own we could call it Lambo.
Morning all.
I’m on pins and needles myself about Bradley Manning.
I’ve also been planning for friends coming over to light the candles Tuesday night, the first night of Chanukah. I’ll be making sweet potato latkes for the first time. One friend who knows how to play two Chanukah songs will bring her fiddle and another will bring Hershel the Chanukah puppet to regale us all with the story of Chanukah.
I’m excited about being with friends. And with all the candle lighting. Them that’s got ‘em and can find ‘em will all bring menorahs and candles. There should be a lot of light. In many different ways.
Also two friends who haven’t spoken to each other in a year are both coming and are glad of the opportunity to repair the rift in a neutral space.
When I was little, my parents put up the tree and decorated it and put out gifts AFTER my sister and I were fast asleep. In our household, Santa brought the tree and the gifts.
I’m not sure how they pulled that off. They must have been up half the night. And in those days we lived in a very small house. Can’t imagine where they hid everything.
LOL! I have come to love gift bags and tissue paper. My grandmother used always to wrap soft things, blouses or socks or whatever, in tissue paper and ribbon. I loved to pick up those packages and hear the soft rustle of the paper. I still wrap a few things like that, in her memory :)
No, silly, not here. Been makin’ a mess all week now it’s time to pay the piper.
Too big for a stocking! Reminds me of my favorite Valentine; “Five pounds of chocolate has been eaten in your name.”
– a truly snort-worthy comment.
LOL!
Your grandmother=my SO.
Rain-X?
Either! (I’m not entirely sure I’ve ever eaten organic cream cheese.)
Go read Frog gravy over at myfdl. Then tell me it’s too lenient.
Boxturtle (besides, burning contributes to global warming)
we used to do that “breakfast” every sunday evening at a restaurant near campus when i was in college.
Trunk of the car. I remember that trick.
This Article 32 hearing is just a preliminary. It’s like a grand jury. They’ll decide whether or not enough evidence is there to put him before a court-martial. Foregone conclusion in Brad’s case. Assholes.
It would warm my heart for sure!
We at the Diner were okay with the sanitation, what is he telling us?
I read that but without the “assholes” Should have fixed it.
My kids’ first few Xmases, did that. They were too little to look for the presents then, anyway. But neighbors took in the presents later.
Loved your ‘light’ metaphor.
Happy Chanukah, greenwarrior. Sounds like it will be a very special one.
Yeah, something like that. Haven’t used it in years.
I think he was just keeping his curmudgeon hand strong.
gotta run do something, bbl
Good idea. Even better if both parties have kids the same age. Instant insanity on Christmas when they find out that what they saw is not what they got!
Back in the days when ya could put most of yer household stuff in the trunk.
Totally in keeping with what a de’light’ greenwarrior herself is.
Morning, Pups. Looks like I got here just in time to wave at OmAli’s departing back. Such tardiness shames me. Gimme the stale coffee from yesterday.
yes, i’m sure they’ll find enough “evidence”. they wouldn’t be doing the pre-trial hearing so soon if not. /s
I thought about living out of my car once. Couldn’t figure out how to get my big Kimball upright into the back seat.
Margot in the morning. I love it! How are you, friend?
It’s exciting to see new am voices. Yippee yi yay.
One year, convinced my son that the big Philodendron was for his Dad, it was really funny when we announced it was hidden under a ….cover story.
Gotta go swim (in a pool) have a great day everyone. Will check back later. While you have breakfast here is something for you to listen to.
Thanks. This is the first year in a long time, I’ve wanted to light the candles. It’s how I was raised, but I’d been following a Sufi tradition for many years.
If the Lear wasn’t in the shop (again!), I swing by Tennisee and pick up Om and we’ll be happy to help clean up your kitchen.
Aw shucks! Couldn’t have been said by a nicer guy.
Hey, I still want to see a photo of your birthday cake!
LOL! What choo mean “the stale coffee from yesterday”? Yoo aint been that bad…..yet.
I am confused. My daughter-in-law is Jewish and is having the traditional dinner on Wednesday. I’m going to Indianapolis for it, and then staying through Christmas day. I’m on deck for Christmas dinner.
Hmmm. Maybe I’d better clarify Channukah with her. Don’t want to show up a day late (and I cannot go on Tuesday).
You made me laugh out loud. I did.
Well, gotta go chase down a BSOD I got as a pre-Christmas gift.
(don’t let it out about the nice guy thing)
CBL was not pleased with that one. I doubt she will put a picture up. We could try to shame her into it though.
Yeah, cuz you didn’t have much “stuff” and those cars had b-i-i-g trunks.
Oh, gosh, I just remember the year we hid stuff in our neighbor’s garage. That was the year they were robbed. Creeps didn’t hit the garage, but my neighbor lost a lot of jewelry and electronics. :(
Reeling backward from the screen . . .
Weren’t you de-fragging yesterday morning? I think you need to get a Mac for Christmas.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.

Rain-X. Pretty good stuff.
It’s sometimes great to revisit your roots. Got dreidels? (And, now are we all hearing the dreidel song in our heads.)
Well at least my statement got a few comments. LOL.
I don’t know what your daughter-in-law’s plans are. She may well be having her dinner on Wednesday. All the Jewish holidays start at sundown the evening before and end at sundown the day of. So even though Chanukah starts on Wed, the 21st, the holiday actually starts Tuesday at sundown. The first candle is lit Tuesday evening.
Hope you have a beautiful holiday, gw, to match your beautiful soul.
I saw a photo of her pre cake trial and it looked quite astonishing. I’m sorry to hear she wasn’t happy with how the cake turned out.
Thanks! I just fired off an email to her to be sure. I am still learning about Jewish traditions. One thing that amuses me (and her) is that she says Channukah is really a minor Jewish holiday that’s gotten elevated to major importance because of its proximity to Christmas.
I do have a couple of dreidels somewhere. Higher on the priority list than finding them is some cleaning up of the house and back patio (for the one smoker). And even though just about everyone is bringing food, I’m still on deck for sweet potato pancakes and this amazing 3 layer cornbread that comes out almost like a pudding, thanks to them dudes at Tassajara.
Careful what you wish for . . . ;-)
Like so many So and Central American families, research turned up the fact that this was escape from the Inquisition. My husband, and kids, never learned Jewish traditions, since they didn’t have any idea it’s what they were. Now I’ve been asked about them, have no background to pass on.
That’s true that Chanukah is a minor holiday. Rosh HaShana, Yom Kippur and Passover are the really important ones. And there are many more. What would a religion be, after all, without lots of cause for celebrating and getting together with family and friends?
oooo, is that in the Tassajara Bread Book or online somewhere? All I see online is sites to buy the book. Triple layer cornbread. mmmmmmm
thanks sweetie. you’re so kind.
or maybe it’s that i saved you from stale coffee! yes, i’m taking credit for that!
You’re making my mouth water. A lot of my friends were Jewish when I was in school, and of course the mothers were great cooks. I’m missing that taste. Must go to a Jewish deli. Maybe that’s what I’ll do this weekend.
They’ve got computers, no? Time to google. Family tradition, history is so rich. Adds such context to where we are now. Righty-O?
You should come to my Chanukah Party! Hershel, the Chanukah puppet is expected to tell the story of Chanukah.
One of the friends I’ve invited was raised Christian, but is completely drawn to all things Jewish. I’ve been wondering if that isn’t somehow part of her background as well. I’ve been wondering if her family were hidden Jews.
Nah. Too much money and I don’t get to have fun!
I am rough on my computer as I do things like overclocking. I did this sort of stuff for Intel.
Quick heads up to the pups,
Kevin has the Manning live blog going on over at the Dissenter.
I imagine it will be front paged as soon as the action begins.
Hi Demi, good to see you, friend.:)
Thanks! Good morning.
Well, I am a lifelong Mac bigot. I just want my computer to work. I only ever had one BSOD and (I think) that’s when the motherboard died. Not sure about that, I just know the machine was history at that point.
There’s lots of it going around. Thanks, wish I could be there. As demi says, it’s possible to google, but it’s not family practices there.
It’s in the Tassajara Bread Book. Do you have it? It’s on page 107. If not, give me an email address and I’ll scan in the hugely stained page and email it to you.
You have to let it rest a few moments after you take it out of the oven so you can cut it and you have to eat it all when you make it. It’s sublime when first baked, but tastes useless the next day.
Actually, I’ll try to scan in my stained and annotated page right now and do a cut and paste.
I Googled “tassajara” and all I got was some Zen retreat in California. Hmmm.
EDIT: with the right Googling, you probably can find that cornbread recipe online somewhere.
I have the original Tassajara Cook Book but am gonna get the Bread Book for meself for Xmas. Gonna start makin’ me own bread.
Buddhist based organization. Their books are published by Shambala.
Triple layer cornbread?? Be still, my heart!
heard somewhere this a.m.
‘If anyone happens to be in the vicinity of the Wisconsin State Capitol, I’ve heard that its not unlikely that several thousand people might spontaneous find themselves singing on the grounds.’
Ya know, I’m pretty sure everybody thinks I want Bradley Manning freed cause he’s a cute cub and I’m a grumpy old white bear with a crush on him. And this is true. But beyond the ad homo-nem argument, there is a very real and substantial Constitutional argument. So mock me all you want (I kinda like it.) Just listen to what he’s saying, and defend your position if you can, asshole prosectors. (Hint: you can’t.) Dicks. :-P
See here for the recipe:
Tassajara Triple-Layer Cornbread
Found the recipe for Three Layer Cornbread online.
I use an 8X8 pan.
And I use the lower amount of sweetener (1/4 cup).
I use corn grits I buy in bulk for coarse ground corn meal.
And I use rice milk for the liquid.
And I use sesame oil.
That’s where the cookbooks came out of – that Zen retreat. The Tassajara Bread Book was published in 1970.
Looks like we both found it online! It is the same recipe I’ve been using.
Beyond and more important than the Constitutional argument is the moral argument to free him.
Morning Pups,
Sorry for jumping the gun the recall total yesterday. 30K short of the minimum needed in the official announcement yesterday. It will be the end of the weekend before the total for the recall is reached. We called volunteers last week to turn in petitions in our small (population) county and we are already over our official county goal by a couple hundred.
About a half hour to fresh bread. Wish I could send you a smellymail (c).
Then back to the office, the recall committee meeting last night should have a few hundred more signatures to take care of and mail in today.
I love flash mobs.
I have never heard of Tassajara or the cornbread. Sounds yummy and not difficult.
After the holiday frenzy, I want to make sourdough bread with the real SanFran SOUR taste. I may order the starter online. I figured it’s definitely a good project for those very cold (here) winter months.
Another batch of tassajara sour-dough. It was a big hit with everyone. The teen’s piano teacher and several others got a loaf.
Great job keep up the great work in Wisconsin. Keith had a segment on Countdown about the total # of signatures they have received. Astounding amount in 30 days. The D organizer said it was over 700,000 signatures.
Great news (and great smell!)
Maybe some signatures could be obtained from the singers at the Capitol Ruth mentioned @170.
msmolly, can you explain “wild” starter? Is that what you called it in an earlier post? Or was it wild yeast?
PC’s work. Where did you get the idea they don’t? I’ve run them by the hundreds. They work. If you mess with a Mac it won’t or likely won’t either. HD’s fail. mobos fail (as you found out) and now, Mac uses the same cpus PC’s do.
750K would be 200K more than the minimum amount of signatures needed. That was set as the new goal for the 60 day signature gathering time limit.
I think it’s wild yeast, as opposed to commercial yeast. This is what my ex-husband’s stepdaughter, the one who’s a pastry chef, said:
“FYI, a true “sourdough” bread uses only natural yeast, which is what the starter is, and is what gives it that sour taste. Many of the breads out there, including some here in the bay area, use a commercial yeast in their sourdoughs.”
I am extraordinarily grateful whenever anyone saves me from anything. ((gw))
Cornbread from the Jewish bakery in my old Canarsie neighborhood is still one of my fondest childhood memories. Haven’t seen anything like it in 30+ years. Hope you are enjoying the same glorious weather I am having here.
Looking forward to hearing about your results. I made a cool rise bread several weeks ago that was very easy and pretty good. The recipe made 3 free-formed loaves. I baked one loaf the first day, then refrigerated the remaining dough and baked the remaining two several days later.
The recipe says that the dough can sit in the fridge up to 5 (maybe 7, I’d have to check) days and that the longer you wait to bake it, the more ‘tang’ it will have, like a sourdough.
I couldn’t really tell that there was that much change over the period of time, but being able to keep the dough until needed was great!
Hej, rc! No, we have mild temps, but rain. Glad you are having another sunny one, did you get outside on the porch with your left-over coffee?
I wonder what the difference is in the recipes, if anything?
Cornbread, crunchy on the bottom, with butter and a cold glass of milk…better than chocolate :)
Well, after a career in end-user computing, I’ve seen the contortions people go through to keep their Windows machines running properly. Crashes, glitches, viruses, etc. and they represent a much higher volume of support calls to the Help Desk. I almost never have a problem with a Mac. It just works. First time, out of the box, almost no setup required.
I’m not saying there never are problems with Macs. It’s a computer. But the end user experience is much, much different, from my observation.
If you are a techie (and you obviously are) you see the environments much differently than an end user does.
I think that “aging” is the principle behind sourdough starter. The longer it sits, the sour-er it gets. But I understand that the yeast has a lot to do with it.
Meanwhile, I’m still on my quest for the ideal chocolate chip cookie (like my local bakery makes). I am gonna gain weight in the process, I’m sure.
Silly girl, the recipe for stale coffee is the same as the recipe for fresh coffee. Just add patience. Thanks to gw’s kind intervention, I got to have fresh coffee on the porch, even though I probably don’t deserve it. ;-)
Oh lord, I’m right on the weight-gain-train with you!
Have you tried a Martha Stewart recipe for a chocolate chip cookie that calls for peanut butter, chopped peanuts, chocolate and chocolate chips, and cinnamon?
It is crazy good!
Just add patience! Now, that is a way of thinking about things….could be used in many applications, don’t you think?
msmolly, here is that recipe (no chocolate, just the chips)
Chunky Peanut, Chocolate and Cinnamon Cookies
Gosh they are good.
I always try to keep a goodly supply of patience on hand. Sometimes I run out, though, despite my best intentions. A very useful ingredient, improves many recipes.
That’s correct, and for basic end users, assuming the programs they need IS available on Mac (a biggie) then by all means, go Mac. I’m not a stickler for either, but when people simply say “Go Mac” I do respond as I did here.
I ran the debug checker, and I am not worried about the particular BSOD, unless it shows up again. No hardware problems, which is what concerned me.
I eschewed Photoshop for years as it only ran on Mac, but everything else I needed was PC, therefore dual computers. It priced me out.
Morning SD & Pups of Fire:
I know I’m way late to the party, but I wanted to help clear up the mystery. Prretty sure the “giant gas cloud” part is Newt Gingrich…
Hey, I’m just here to help.
If he were methane we could just light a match and problem solved.
Very helpful, amigo, and very good to see you here at the diner.
People always like to cite the sheer number of software packages that run on a WinTel box, as opposed to a Mac. But when you get right down to it, MOST of the stuff the average user needs is available on either platform, and the interface often is nicer on a Mac. And because Macs were forced by the predominance of Windows to be able to play well in that environment, Macs can run Windows (I have both the latest Mac OS and Windows 7), and also are compatible with networking and other Windows stuff.
My son-in-law is a Lotus techie, and lives in a Windows environment for his job, but has Macs at home. It’s no longer either/or, often it’s both.
Thanks, OmAli. I’m not fond of nuts in anything, so I’ll probably pass, although I should bake a batch for family who aren’t so nuts-averse. I’ve bookmarked the recipe.
Hey, we could make enough energy by burning that particular methane to help solve the fossil fuel problem. LOL.
Sorry I must have heard it wrong. The mind is the first to go. :)
That is NOT a pretty picture.
I’m going to dry out and watch a David Harvey video. It is pouring out there and I got soaked. My sorry excuse for an umbrella self destructed and just about poked my eye out!
Hope there is some coffee left please oh please oh please.
Better look out, Harvey is much like Wolff but is a bit more wonkish.
I’m starting with his address to Occupy London. Sort of like eating dessert before dinner. So far, so good. Global inequality of wealth and environmental degredation. I have a new word: externalities. He is right, anti-poverty campaigns haven’t worked, we need to try anti-wealth. Extreme wealth, I guess.
Sit here and read, if you like. I’ll plug in my earbuds :)
That sink is full of mugs and tea cups. That sink is so big, Newt could take a bath in there.
I’m procrastinating. Back to the video.
Dangerous place, Harvey’s site. Makes capitalists go nutzoid. And piss their pants. Also.
Divided, not good. Divergent, not good. Also.
The closest I ever came to reconsidering Mac is when Snow Leopard came out. What a delight to have run a program named “Snow Leopard”!
With the advent of Win7 and Snow L, the two platforms came closer together in terms of interface. Mac borrowed from Windows, Windows from Mac.
I believe Win 8 will be”The Final Solution to the Macintosh Problem”…..
(I’m outta here!)
“That sink is so big, Newt could take a bath in there.”
Darlin’, you’re gonna scare the decent customers away, talking like that.
Well, I just finished washing and drying, and not a Newt in sight, I’m happy to report. We dodged another bullet.
I’m just going to close my eyes and take a stab at the jukebox…..
Sultans of Swing
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Safe travels and safe home :)
ohmmm
Oh, I meant to say, “Chicken!” before I left. *G*
That’s a relief. Not that I consider myself one of the “decent” customers lol. Have a great weekend, you lovely child. Don’t forget to pet the goat.
Oh, no! Last, in spite of myself.
