Mornin’, pups
Good morning ‘Dragon and thanks for the post and host.
Oh, hai
Thanks for that. Delightfull.
Waving at Southern Dragon and oldnslow and bear.
Thanks for the news articles.
As they say, Think globally, at locally. Dragon, you’re in charge of the globally part. I’ll work on the locally part. Does that work for you?
Works for me. *g*
Problems with E-voting? No way, it couldn’t happen.
Didn’t know the Occupy Movement was anti-capitalist. I thought they were anti-stealing-from-99%-of-wage-earners.
Good Morning All….Dense fog here, I hear. Can I stay home? Cheers, folks.
We went over to the National Guard Armory last night to check it out. The Guard lets them use a large room for people to sleep in, but they have to leave in the morning and come back at night. About 100 cots set up very close to each other, but, hey, it’s out of the cold and rain.
Places like MEND are closed on xmas eve and xmas day, so I’ve been looking for a place that we could go serve goodies and take some music and lead some carol singing. I think I found the place. *g*
Good morning all.
SD, yesterday I left you a link at the end of Caturday.
Holder coming to Austin to talk about civil rights….issues churning over redistricting and some voters’ laws. TX is such fun…. I love the top picture…Thanks
G’Morning Bev.
I can do fog. It’s cozy. Cold and windy here. Brrrrrr. Chili burgers.
The idea for OWS came from AdBusters. They’ve been described as anti-capitalists or anarchists.
Chill and wrap up…Do you go to work today?
Thanks.
Is there a Food Not Bombs group near you. They’d prolly be up to feeding on Xmas.
In my early days in the Navy in Norfolk, VA there were places where you could rent a bed for a couple bucks. Old, WWII type steel bunk beds. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to find an old warehouse or something similar and set it up that way for the homeless. Put in showers, etc. Not charging for its use, of course.
Yep. And, sonnyboy’s class is field tripping there today too, so it’ll be a fun morning for me. I mean a funner morning.
One of the things I love about being there is knowing some great like-minded folks.
Holder on civil rights. An important subject, often overlooked for political convienence. Now being discussed in major public speeches since he doesn’t want to talk about real estate or banks.
Boxturtle (or torture, indefinate detention, domestic spying, OWS….)
Any word on Margaret?
Going to look up Food Not Bombs right now, thanks.
They may feel it’s the same thing.
Oh, yeah, I saw that. Thanks. I imagine the nurse will live quite well.
Try to do it, and watch NIMBY file suit against it. Quickly. Don’t want THOSE type of folks in our nice neighborhood.
Boxturtle (a good idea, as long as it’s done far away from anyone with access to a lawyer)
Makes for shorter conversation, doesn’t it? He will be at the LBJ school, so we will probably see pretty good coverage.
Margaret’s fine. Just taking a break.
Thanks…I had only seen her recently at Cat’day.
Yeah, well, they need to get a fuckin’ grip.
Actually, warehouses and such are usually in the industrial areas of a city so it could be less of a problem. That said, most cities don’t want the homeless around, period. St Pete, Tampa and Orlando are great examples. Can’t have our cities looking like Calcutta now, can we?
Good morning all. :)
LOLOL! That is hilarious!
Good morning, everyone. Yesterday’s sun has been replaced by gloom. But at least there’s “no snow in the forecast™.”
Nothin’ like a little early mornin’ grin.
Rocky Anderson for prez on Justice Party ticket is first segment on democracynow.
They’ve got a grip and a good one on what they want. Residents in this area go apeshit as soon as anything with a name like “shelter”, “group home”, “halfway house”, “public housing”, or “free clinic” is proposed and there are lawyers who specialize in stopping such things.
Once Oakwood (local old money bedroom community) spent the equivalent of two years tax revenue to stop a group home for teenagers. They were willing to spend more.
Only place we can place such support is the abandoned areas of downtown Dayton. And dayton has sued on the grounds they they get ALL such places and it’s time for others to take their share.
Boxturtle (Not sure how to solve this)
I’ve read that there is scientific evidence that laughter is good for the body (as well as for the soul, of course). Does something good with endorphins or some such. It’s one reason I try to read Charles Pierce’s blog every day. His snark is laugh-out-loud funny. He shares that ability with TBogg (and TRex).
Good morning, ’99.
Generally speaking, people didn’t use to be so mean-spirited. I can only hope that things turn around when the economy collapses and people see the need to come together. Appealing to people’s better nature has had little to no effect.
Our Symphonic Choir had a huge holiday concert last Friday — three choirs, an orchestra, and dancers. Admission was a teddy bear (one per person, not one per family), and of course money was accepted too. We collected more than 500 bears for our Center for the Homeless. The person who picked them up had to make two trips. They were intended for children, of course, but a homeless veteran asked for one, and got one. Apparently there was one stuffed octopus!
Nice picture, up top. Had gone back to sleep. No fog here.
How are ya doing today. Rainy and cold here today. Good day to do nothing.
Wonder if he had someone special in mind.
Drove to wrk this morning in heavy fog. Wishing I was home with a nice fire and a CBL.
The trickle down works that way, doesn’t it? When we have the ideology seriously being promoted that we can all just throw money at the very rich, and they’ll invest it back, (especially in light of years of evidence it’s not true), then workers are disposable.
I hear ya my wife has been so busy she is so tired when she gets home. Hoping things will settle down for her soon. It would be nice to visit with her lol.
Funny, we went on a toy run for a childrens home last Sunday and they specified “no stuffed animals.” Had never seen that before.
Morning SD & Pups of Fire:
I had a chance to see “Inside Job” again. It still holds up. I’m thinking that all the liars, thieves, criminals and sociopaths who were responsible for creating this catastrophe should be required to view it. Just put it in a loop and let it run…for about 20 to life.
Fkn Gangster MFs…
It’s also an ideology that says that people who aren’t as successful as others are to be looked down upon and dehumanized. Keeping up withe the Joneses has become a nightmare.
If you want to read something really sickening, go look at the comments about Lowe’s pulling their advertising off American Muslim. I’m sure these people call themselves Christians.
25 Dumbest Comments on Lowe’s Facebook Page about “All American Muslims”
That’s really weird. Wonder what that’s all about.
They’d just call it a lie.
I have watched it twice and still can’t believe no one is in jail.
GOPers have no better nature.
You be amazed at how many issues that have nothing to do with race or income can be raised to fight one of these things. Oakwood used restrictive zoning and threats of devastating legal consequences to the operators if any resident so much as tresspassed. The group home fought it until they were out of money, figuring if they could defeat Oakwoods money and lawyers they could win anywhere.
There are a dozen Juvies locked up at any given time that don’t have to be since that group home was defeated.
One of Oakwoods proposed laws would have required a permit for more than 8 people in a home.
Boxturtle (The Catholics forced a rewrite of that one, yet didn’t object to the idea of blocking)
Dunno. He said he wanted one to help him sleep, apparently.
Then last evening we sang some of our concert pieces again for a group of patients in a local inpatient psychiatric hospital. We had a couple of gospel-type numbers and they were clapping along with the music and really enjoying it.
Stuff like that is the “reason for the season.”
I saw a couple comments from FB in a piece. That was enough for me, thank you. American exceptionalism and ignorance at its finest.
Well Thank You Jeebuzz.
You might be interested to know that Russell Simmons personally bought up the remainder of the ad time, thus simultaneously facilitating the airing of the piece, and flipping a healthy finger to Lowe’s and the dipshit Christian wannabees who started this bullshit.
Hmmm. I’ve never seen that either. They do specify that they be NEW teddy bears. Perhaps there’s a problem with some people contributing used items.
That’s fine, too. There would still be that “20 to life” thing, preferably in general population of a federal supermax. Prolly wouldn’t last 20 minutes inside a joint like that.
That is great news. I hadn’t heard that!!
Good morning all,
Just back from my morning constitutional at PcA.
Won’t be here tomorrow as I await my 28 year old daughter recovery from Ovarian surgery to erase some dark spots.
Did you catch my story schem diggity on youtube Google it if I mess up this try at linking, damn dyslexia . I found it inspiring.
When our ‘business reporters’ are seriously suggesting that the unemployed start up their own businesses, rational thought has been subordinated totally to ideology.
They are BACK! That is, the One Percent of the One Percent has a New Conspiracy to maintain the Oligarchy. We have Lynn Forester Cruella Deville de Rothschild, Christine Todd Whitman, and the always wrong Thomas Friedman, giving us “Americans Elect”, supported by the worst of the worst.
Gotsta bail. Later, Pups.
I understand that. Neither Bill Kristol nor Dick Cheney would.
Still haven’t figured it out. Beautifull place though. About 20 “cottages”, gym, big game room and the kids were most gratefull. Kinda fun watching their faces as they watch 250 dirty bikers role in.
Heard it on KO’s show last night.
I really hope “Current” makes it, because they’re doing good work in that shop.
Good recovery to her.
They might just have preferred real puppies and kittens.
Only in Merika! There are times that I do feel we have no hope for this country.
If I was that ignorant and hateful, I’d keep my white hood on. And I sure wouldn’t advertise it to such a large audience.
Boxturtle (Perhaps Holder will mention this in his speech. probably not, it’s only Moslems and there’s an election)
Here’s a link:
http://nhne-pulse.org/schem-diggitys-story/
Need to come with petfood supplies, though.
Good for him!
Boxturtle (I suspect this will gain Lowes business, rather than cost it)
I can’t get Current — no cable — but I try to watch clips later.
I am really torn about this. I would like to write to Lowe’s and tell them they’ll get no more of my business, but my alternatives are Home Depot and Menards, which may be worse than Lowe’s.
No local independent hardware stores? Here there’s a couple, and a farm supply.
The Story. Wow, just wow.
Best wishes for your daughter, tjbs. She’s got a damn good dad.
Thanks dude , you’re one of the good guys for sure !
Are there any Ace Hdwe in South Bend? I quit going to Lowe’s a long time ago. They never seemed to be in stock on anything I ever needed. Now I have a great reason not to go there. *g*
Morning Ruth,
I hope you are feeling fully recovered from that little head bump of yours.
Seems I owe ya a beverage what is your pleasure?
Still a few Tru Value stores around, still family owned.
Good luck, there…Hope all goes well.
There’s one about 5 miles from my house and I have gone there for a while now. They carry everything I have needed.
Won’t cost Lowes any of my business. I deal with my local Handyman hardware store. Only deal with lowes when when Handyman is out and can’t order it before I need it. Nearest Non-Lowes is about 20-30 minutes away and is Home Deport anyway.
Boxturtle (I fear Lowes is going to kill Handyman, though.)
Thanks, yes – though a little confusion shouldn’t be that much of a surprise, at my untender years.
How’s your coffee, with cream? Thanks.
Very very good comin at ya.
Good morning pups. Speaking of global warming, we are having the warmest November-December on record here in Quebec. Normally by December 13 we’ve had our first blizzard and minus 20 (celsius) temperatures. This year no snow yet, and no ice on the shallow pond that counts for our lake in the country. We’ve had Green Christmas’s before, but this one is off the charts. I saw a flock of snow geese on Lake Massawippi this weekend. Usually they fly south around October 15.
I knew I shouldn’t have unpacked my snowshoes.
In St. Louis it was 57 degrees yesterday. No climate change here.
I lived in KC for a while….for a TX girl from the heat, it seemed to me it was pretty cold year ’round ;) Sorta….I thought St. L was so interesting….There were a couple of places where I would like to stay in the downtown so I could get more of the “feel”. Have you been there for most of your life?
Gotta run take care all will drop in later. Stay safe.
I have lived here for about 10 years. When I was married the first time I lived outside the St. Louis area but worked in town.
The converted railroad Union station is wonderful.
That is pretty cool it is right on the main drag through downtown. I really haven’t been downtown much but since Occupy it seems like it is an every week thing.
Yes, I remember…and did some shopping. what takes you to St.L?
Never went to the arch, but have been to St. Louis by train, and fell for the station there.
Just a few trips that went through there, so as you know, I gotta go see stuff when I am there.
There’s no such thing as global warming and have you noticed how fat Al gore is?
Despite that, here in Ohio I don’t think we’ve been below 30F even once yet. Just a few spits of snow. The weather extremes are happening more often and they’re more extreme.
Boxturtle (but I’m sure that’s just a cooincidence. Here, Al, have another Jelly donut)
They have made it pretty nice. The architecture is really something. Would be hard to duplicate cheaply now a days.
Good morning, all you freedom-and-coffee (and tea) lovers. It’s a gloriously beautiful day here in Atlanta. My sympathies to all you Northern pups that didn’t do the transplant thingy.
I am sorry that is funny to me.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Afghanistan: 1,853
US KIA Irak: 4,484
Afghan, Iraki and Pakistani casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2011: 42,904 and counting
Tell Me All the Things You Do
No war but class war
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things
Namaste
Never. Give. Up.
Really gotta go this time. I hope everyone has a wonderful day.
After this summer, anyone still in TX is planning to undo that transplant thingy.
I’m sure there’s an Ace Hardware, but that’s a chain too. Not much else, and nothing at all with the selection and range of products of a Lowe’s or Home Depot. I do shop local, when and where I can.
Some of them are independently owned don’t know if yours is but the one I go to is not owned by the corporation. YMMV :) Okay I promise I am going now.
Ralph Nader did an interview with Rob Lorei of WMNF yesterday morning. Nader’s people took an LL Bean catalog and checked out every item therein. 97% of the products in the catalog were “Made in China.”
Glad to hear it. We have a few really local paint/building supply and farm equipment dealers here, so it’s probably easier for me.
Im out also….have a lovely day. Stay safe…B
Al Gore is a LOT fatter than you, OR me. Thanks, Al.
I don’t know why folks get so fixated on having water.
that quote was for Box Turtle. Jeesh I am having a lot of trouble with comments lately. Brain must be going.
That green color is ordinary, anyway.
LOL You are the funny man.
South Bend is basically a college town, and not a big one. We have a Sam’s Club but no Costco, lots of chain restaurants that cater to the college kids, couple of Targets, stuff like that.
This is a rural area, for the most part. Though we have every chain there is as we’re on a crossroad for much of N.TX and So.OK.
Me, too, am off now. Thanks for good company.
No derogatory comments about my green Jetta, please.
Morning folks. Thick, soupy fog here, too, 80 mi or so south of RevBev.
I need to go out soon to a (sigh) job fair being held by a staffing agency. Hoping it’ll burn off, but no sign of it yet.
Just got off the phone with my landlord; quite contentious discussion about the feral cat I’ve been feeding. He didn’t want her brought in, but claims he thought I’d agreed to stop feeding her outside! NOT!
Then he said I’d agreed to only put food out for two hours a day.
And would you believe, as support for an assertion that feeding feral cats brought rodents around, he asserted that most cats are “scared of mice!”
Then he said he knew cats bc he grew up with eleven of them.
Think I finally got through to him that feral cats behave differently from pets, and he agreed to consider allowing Smoodgie to come in, with a revised pet deposit. (so then all I have to do is raise that money).
Ha-he said he sees feral cats around this neighborhood all the time – no, I said, you don’t, you see pets that are allowed to roam freely. You don’t see feral cats because they hide from humans.
Sigh.
It did get quite heated, but if I can just get Smoodgie to cooperate, it may be on the way to resolution. Then I just gotta find someone to take care of Big Boy (whom, I admit, I did not mention).
My landlord is an anxious, worry wart type, who talks faster than you would believe a Texan would, and I think just blurts out stuff without thinking about what he’s saying, so he says ridiculous stuff. And this time I called him on it.
At least, if he’s talking about a new deposit, I guess he isn’t planning to evict me, which is what I worry about. I can’t imagine packing and moving my stuff (and animals), let alone renting a new place without a steady job.
Well, there’s my morning venting.
Everyone else doing all right?
Good morning, everyone. Thanks for the bear link; that was great.
Oops, guess I missed that: in the post or at what comment no?
How are you, Bear Country? All your animals safe and accounted for?
Link at SD’s comment #2 or #3. Sincerely hope you can get a good resolution to the cat situation. All animal lovers go to Heaven. ;-)
Awm thanks. Eek, look at the time! Gotta run. bbl
Late to the party. It’s ok, I like it when it’s quiet here, too.
Someone else washed the mugs, I see. Thank you.
Questions
Oh to be able to play the guitar again. Sigh! Beautiful piece.
Hey, Omgirl. I waited to order until you showed up. Are there any cheese blintzes in the house?
How come people come here, show up and say I didn’t read the comments, but what are you talking about? Hmmmmm, just seems a little presumptuous to me. But, hey, I get here when I get here, usually way way way early and I find late signer oners complaining about the time of the post.
Not all ya’ll, just some of y’all.
I know who’s faithful and who just likes to complain.
Ha. I think it’s hilarious.
Be there. Or, be square. Showing up is 80 percent of the job, I’ve heard.
All y’all crack me up, sometimes.
I think you lie. I think you ordered something when you got here, but I just got home from stuff, so I’m not going to go back and look. But, I think I remembered…
And, just know. People are watching you.
I just went and looked and you, in fact, did not order anything.
Apologies.
She’s here off and on, so I guess you just have to order when you can.
Plenty other folks here, though.
(I know you’ll never order from me….)
Please see demi’s Comment #125 lol. As for your parenthetical thought, never give up hope, ma’am, I take careful note every time you mention your cuteness and blondeness. It’s a bachelor thing. It does not necessarily require a goat to get my attention ;-)
A goat? Is that a reference to some earlier thread that I missed?
Hmmmm.
Btw, back from interview, filling out forms, testing. Only got about 66% on my Word test…eeep. Gotta practice and take it again if I want those high-dollar assignments. Perfect on grammar, data entry, typing speed down by nearly 10 wpm. Sigh. I guess it is true, if you’re not working, your skills are atrophying.(although, trying to keep up with the wits posting rapidly around fdl, I thought I was typing pretty fast…but guess I don’t care so much about error-free)
Just took a look at the bear vid – I wasn’t expecting that! Hilarious! I bet the bear gets a kick out of astonishing the tourists every time.
If you don’t know about the goat thing, you aren’t spending enough time here, m’dear. Try and do better. Not sure if it would be indiscreet to share the goat secret with you. Perhaps I should leave that task to one with more direct involvement . . . ;-)
Hey all got back from my monthly massage. It really helps circulate the blood and gets rid of toxins. Yes it is for medical purposes lol. Then I helped my daughter with an art project for Brownies. Hope everyone is doin good. Getting ready to start dinner in a bit. Just wanted to say hello and it seems we have lively discussions even in the evening.
My brother wanted engage me about the Ron Paul’s surge in Iowa and Newt’s drop of 5%. I think I pissed him off because I don’t get excited or interested in the political horse race. Sigh! It seems I can’t please.
We constantly hear of your chubby troubles, and now you tell us you get regular massages that “circulate the blood” for “medical” purposes only. Yeah, sure. Somebody doth protest too much. Get the goat.
LMAO I must say again you are the funny man.
Sure, go ahead, try to laugh it off. Nobody’s buyin’ it. ;-)
I do want the goat if that’s how one gets the massage….please get the goat. Wow.
Ha! You know a lot of health plans cover a portion of a massage…for medical reasons. Like, say if you have arthritis or stress.
Go for the good, not the gruff. *g*
It’s not how one gets the “massage.” It’s just an extra.
My ever-present sense of propriety precludes me from inquiring just which portion you can get massaged with insurance dollars. I do like the word “gruff,” though, and would bet, oh, say, TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS, that OmAli would approve it as well.
