- “Negotiators agreed to start work on a new climate deal that would have legal force and, crucially, require both developed and developing countries to cut their carbon emissions. The terms now need to be agreed by 2015 and come into effect from 2020.” My understanding is that we’ve got 5 years before it’s too late to start implementing policies. The US has been an absolute disgrace in dealing with climate change. The government as a whole would rather let corporate whores like Sen Inhofe (Asshole-OK) run the show.
- France has a presidential election in 2012. Mayhaps Osterity can get a few tips from the candidates. He might actually learn something from the socialist candidate. Or not.
- Real News talked to Dr. Heiner Flassbeck (Director, Division on Globalization and Development Strategies, UNCTAD) about the Euro Crisis. This guy knocked my socks off, and I don’t wear socks. Not what he said but that he said it. This guy’s the quintessential neoclassical economist fer cryin’ out loud. Then they link to a little talk he gave. You won’t believe what he says in the last 5 minutes.
- “Nick Clegg [deputy prime minister] promised to rebuild the government’s shattered relationship with the rest of Europe and risked opening a coalition rift by going public with his “bitter disappointment” at David Cameron’s decision to block a new EU agreement.” This could get interesting.
- Million women are ‘missing’ from Britain’s workforce. For those who’ve watched any of the speeches Prof Richard Wolff has given on the current economic crisis this is related to the reasons women went into the workforce in such great numbers in the 1970s.
- “Writing from the very region that produces more clichés per square foot than any other “story” – the Middle East – I should perhaps pause before I say I have never read so much garbage, so much utter drivel, as I have about the world financial crisis.” Tell it, Mr Robert!
If anybody hasn’t noticed yet, it’s the Christmas Season. when we celebrate the birth of Jesus by going further into debt to buy the ones we love some thing. PETA has a guide to cruetly-free clothing and accessories. We don’t have to kill animals to dress ourselves.
The truth will set you free but first it’ll piss you off.

About Firedoglake
Morning, SD.
Capitalism’s kryptonite: Diminished expectations.
And Democracy’s as well.
Good Morning Pups…Still a bit cold here…to rain later. Can you say gray day? Happy Monday, I guess;)
Mornin’, pups
Good morning, all. Yesterday was a light Caturday, compared to others where I only had time to scan the comments. It looks like you have a full plate for us here today. I only looked at the political cartoon. I have to go back now and check things out.
G’Morning, RB,
It’s sprinkling a little here now. But, you know what? It means I don’t have to water my yard plants. That’s good. And, a little fire in the fireplace…gray is not always bad. *g*
(Shutting up now. You can feel gray today if’n ya wants to.)
Did the cartoon piss you off…Who does that guy know?
And you’re up already…amazing. Good Morning.
Most always a morning glory. But, I go to bed early too.
I’m going to call some shelters today to see if I can make an appointment to go have a look/see. I’ve never been to one, only seen them in movies. Should be an eye opener, as I really have no idea how nice or miserable they are. I’ve got a list of five to check out.
Morning all,
Missed the school line this morning as I fight a losing battle with the fire this morning.
What fire? Are you alright?
Morning Joke stunned that Barry still beats Mittens and Newt in South Carolina.
Heh, can’t keep that sucker burnin’?
What is this about?
Good morning pupses and thank you SD.
Chimney that won’t draw?
TRN and Robert Fisk go together like coffee and sticky buns this morning.
I’m assuming tjbs can’t get the fire in his fireplace or wood stove to cooperate.
How’re you doin’?
Morning all. Cold and gray here today.
Maybe it’s the “Fire Down Below” — ala Bob Seeger. LOLOL
Hey, Pretty good. we had a very peaceful night, and Angela is definitely eating this am….Off to a good start. Thanks for asking and thanks for yesterday. Very appreciated….B
Good morning, everyone. I scrolled through a few of those cartoons. He’s pretty good. Another liberal at a conservative newspaper. I wonder how many others there are (Mike Peters, Jim Borgman)?
Good morning all. Thanks fopr the post an host SoDrag.
RevBev,
I left you one downstairs.
Speaking of Mike Peters.
I guess that I don’t understand all the ins-and-outs of crony dealing. I simply can’t understand the $1.2 million.
RevBev, I asked yesterday on Caturday, but you may not have seen it, and I left the thread not long after. What denomination are you? Just curious. RevDeb (Mero) is a Unitarian Universalist minister — I see her here very infrequently now, but she used to comment regularly. And Peterr is a Lutheran minister, I think. Of course there may be other clergy among the Firepups that I don’t know about.
HA! Thanks for that!
Bottom line is that these people’s attorneys get them contracts that pays them huge severance packages if they get fired. The cities usually go along so they don’t have to spend millions on attorney fees when the fired employee sues.
Hillsborough County, where Tampa is, ended up defending firing a commissioner in a sexual harassment case. The courts ordered the county to pay this creep’s attorney fees. Sordid story. The guy is about to go to prison for scamming the county. He and his father, now deceased, scammed the county to hire a tow service.
SD, another stellar effort. When do you think Dr. Heiner Flassbeck will be interviewed by David Gregory, Brian Williams, or any of the other spokesmodels in the corporate media? Morning everyone.
Morning SD & Pups of Fire:
I’m in a rush, so I’ll have to be quick.
1. Dig “Lakeside Diner.” Great format, great job. Go Dragon!’
2. I also dig that little Kitteh at the top of the page. What a cool dude.
3. This one was over at Yve’s place the other day. Thought it worth sharing.
Second Tuesday of next week.
Was unaware of “Real News” until the Diner came along. Thanks for the consciousness raising.
Little “news” tidbit. Enjoy.
Hmmm. I just looked, and Jim Borgman is now the “former” editorial cartoonist of the Cincinnati Enquirer. He apparently left the paper after 31 years. Not sure what’s up with that, but he obviously doesn’t need the money. He’s only 57.
That link is a keeper. Expect to see that at Caturday.
Little kitteh? I don’t think I let him/her hear me say that. *g*
Got it….Thank you….Stay dry here.;)
morning, grey here too. But not very cold. Spent the weekend recouping so sorry I went missing, hit my head and was pretty out of it.
Christian Church/Disciples of Christ…very mainline, non-Fundie
OT but listening to what passes for “progressive” radio in the A.M. I find Bill Press to be an insufferable cheerleader for O.
You’re welcome. Gotta watch out for us Marxists.
Yuk Ruth….no fun. Hope all is OK…
How I heat my house, I slept through the four o’clock feeding this morning.
If I don’t burn wood from the property i can go through fifty gallons a week( @$3.50 /gallon ) to heat the old place and without income , and self employed no unemployment you can see it pays to keep the home fires burning
Never tho’t you were fundie. Anything to do with Disciple course of study? which I took many years ago, in Dallas.
Oh, yeah, they’re pathetic. Most of ‘em wouldn’t make a pimple on a progressive’s ass.
Fine now, but didn’t realize how out of it I was until Elliott showed me something I had written.
How did you hit your head with that kind of force?
edit: and I’m glad you are ok
Doesn’t sound familiar, though there are some good DOC congregations in Dallas and used to be (don’t know) really big one in McKy. Do not know the study you mention.
Since nothing is off topic: Where are the rabbits?
I drive about 150mi/day through farmlands and for reasons that would probably fascinate a shrink, I kinda keep a roadkill tally. Deer, coons, possums, skunks, and woodchucks are all represented. But I haven’t seen one rabbit this year. Not one.
And thinking about it, I haven’t seen any running around my place either. I thought that was because of the husky’s but now I’m not so sure. I’m not seeing them anywhere and it wasn’t but a couple yeas ago there were everywhere.
Anybody else noticing a population drop?
Boxturtle (In the running for strangest post of the day)
Fell on the stairs in back, carrying a bunch of stuff that made me off balance.
That’s the church I was raised in (thankfully). Even in small town Kentucky, it was a fairly liberal and inclusive church
Never see jackrabbits anymore, but I have a colony of the little cottontails that like my garden.
So easy to do that. Wondered why you weren’t commenting on PUAC. It was a good post and thread but we missed you.
Again, so glad you are better now.
Thanks, RevBev. I’m a UU, but haven’t attended since I moved to South Bend in 2003. The congregation is very tiny here. And I’m basically an atheist, but I do miss the UU social activism.
I wouldn’t have expected you to be a fundie.
and here I thought crony capitalism and democracy were synonymous.
A fundie’s head would explode at the Lake.
I hated to stay away, but was just not making good sense. So thought you’d be better off without me.
UU is the only church I have ever attended, and I haven’t, even there, for many years. I really enjoyed the times when our church hosted speakers from other faiths to deliver the ‘sermon’.
I had to slow down on Saturday to miss hitting one in my daughter’s subdivision, but now you mention it I haven’t seen a rabbit before that for a long time. I have a gazillion squirrels around, though.
Let’s do an encore soon, so we can have your input about your trip.
Any GM crops near you? I assume you don’t have them in your garden.
Boxturtle (Wondering if Roundup-Ready(r) is bad for rabbits. Or if the coyote population spiked)
Ky = the “roots” iirc….
Hi RevBev. I was brought up in the First Christian Church. I always wondered where the Second Church was. Sort of like banks. Sang in the choir at the Thomas Circle church in DC. Lyndon Johnson was a member there, but didn’t show up very often. Too busy being Majority Leader.
We had a family of foxes in the back and there were no rabbits now I don’t see foxes but do see the DAMN rabbits in my garden.
Best of days (sunny, here, for now) to all youze pupses, yous.
Take the best parts of the season and weave them into your today.
Safe travels and safe home wished for you by your
ohmmmm
I was very active when I lived in the Detroit area, and less so in Cincinntati. Those were relatively large congregations (the UU denomination is not large, and I think our church of 850 was one of the largest). We shared duty for a week housing the homeless who moved from church to church, we picketed and participated in other forms of social activism. And we had a large and very good choir.
UUs are self-governing, so while there’s an overall organization, congregations set their own rules and hire their own clergy.
I’m getting that “now that you mention it” pretty ofetn as I ask about this. Nobody really thinks about rabbits, but when you trigger their brains there seems to be a general agreement that they’re not as many as even 3 years ago.
Boxturtle (Nothing like a scientific investigation)
That’s a beautiful church…the minister who did prayer for JFK Inaugural was my “childhood” minister…per the LBJ connection Im pretty sure. Where was your First church? Ive never found the 2nd either.
I’ll see, it’s something I enjoy, the chat with everyone. But I wasn’t up to running the show, Saturday.
My daughter’s family had a rabbit build a nest and birth some babies a couple of summers, right in the middle of their back yard in the presence of their big chocolate lab. They had to construct a makeshift fence to keep the pup away until the babies left the nest.
EDIT: what a badly constructed sentence that is. I hope you know what I was trying to say.
I’ll mark your area down as “normal”. :-)
Boxturtle (If I find out what’s crashing the population around here, I’ll pass it on)
Could be, since this is a farm area, but I don’t know exactly.
Ruth, when was making “good sense” in FDL comments a criterion for posting? ;-) We’re all glad that you’re OK.
Good morning, Pups. Hope everyone had a great weekend.
While the intellectual power of the US is wrapped up in developing synthetic financial instruments and weapons for war, Germany is leaving the US in the dust in 21st century technology.
Nervy of her.
Large congregation, and sounds very socially active.
We had a lot of posturing and preening, not so much positive contribution. And no choir :
bye, again :)
It would have bothered me, though.
We missed you Saturday morning. Glad you’re OK now.
Just going out the door, but hej, rc.
Good one for us, hope for you as well?
Catch you later,
ohmmm
If you’re in a farm area, the answer is yes. I think that the large majority of corn and wheat in USA is GM anymore. I know the cornfield behind me is roundup ready.
The good thing about roundup ready it is will produce a genetic shift amongst pests that will eventually render roundup worthless. Then we get rid of both.
Boxturtle (Mother Nature wins all fights, she just does so at her own speed)
Maybe the rabbits are getting smarter and learning how to avoid traffic.
In southeastern PA, you could add fox to the roadkill list.
My daughter or the rabbit? (LOL. See what I mean about the sentence structure?)
My daughter couldn’t figure out why mama rabbit wanted to nest in the middle of the yard with a large dog in it. I haven’t asked lately, but she had quite a few rabbits around her Noblesville, IN house (near Indianapolis).
I’m on a very wooded lot, and I rarely see a rabbit.
Thanks.
But do we really know what happens to us when we eat it? Something tells me we’re not doing ourselves any good.
Aren’t “damn rabbits” the primary ingredient in hasenpfeffer?
Both. Your daughter is assuming that she should protect a rabbit that dumb, when nature dictates otherwise. (sorry, gotta quibble)
Are you sure about that? Roundup is an herbicide, not a pesticide. Farmers who use it do not plow their fields like they used to. Because Roundup does not kill all species of weeds, those that are resistent to it become superweeds. Monsanto has paid farmers to use competitors’ herbicides to control the superweeds.
O/T Thanks for pointing out that the comment from last night wasn’t directed at me. I read that thing 5 times and there didn’t seem to be a place where it was directed at the “Washington pols”. I am a little slow sometimes, anyway Missouri is a screwed up state and I stand by my assessment of the choice of candidates here..
The biggest furry wildlife we have here in bear country is ‘coons; they are all over the place. Our back porch is fixed in the road map because of feeding feral cats outside. The biggest missing animal here is skunks. We used to have many come around. Sometimes we had three or four in our yard traveling together on the hunt for insects. Now we have one little teenager occasionally visiting the back porch.
Most of the talk in support of the bear hunt here in NJ was nonsense. The fish and game people get their departmental money from the hunting and fishing licenses they sell. The claim is that the bear population is out of control. Actually we’ve seen fewer bears this year than we have in quite a long time. Can anyone see a self serving interest in selling licenses for a bear hunt?
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.

You just got lost among the trees in the punctuation forest lol. Happy to supply the bread crumbs. ;-)
Well, my daughter is a softie. And besides, she probably doesn’t want to explain to her daughters that the dog chewed on the baby rabbits. The dog might just play with them, but the result would be the same. Not a wonderful sight for 8 and 10 year olds to witness in their back yard.
Not sure about anything. Just noticed something and wondering if it’s just me or if we’re missing some rabbits.
Rabbits are a critical part of the food chain, both as eaters and eatees. Not good if the population is crahing.
Boxturtle (And my observations are neither rigorious nor a valid statistical sample)
And most of us would be the same, it’s just that I quibble about what’s right as opposed what’s natural.
Have a lovely day…wherever you are….Gray here and likely to rain….Catch you later….Angela and I thank you for very gentle thoughts. Everyone take care.
Do you have my toads ? When I moved here fifteen years ago they were everywhere now I’m lucky to see one or two all year.
Yep, Cane Ridge not far from my hometown (Bourbon County is next county south from my home county of Harrison)
Horny toads are gone from here, and we saw them a lot when I was little.
My buddy used to make needles and when they start out they are 20″ in length he said and have to be very stiff.
When they drew the smallest diameter wire ever, they sent it off to Germany for bragging rights.
The Germans sent it back drilled out.
When I was a kid in the 1960′s, I could collect a dozen odd toads from windowell’s in my neighborhood without ever getting out of sight of my house. My current home has window wells. I’ve lived here for 5+ years. Not one toad, ever. And I look.
Boxturtle (I have found a couple of pymgy rattlers in the window wells)
Yes, that is all very interesting history…Thanks for the link.
Here’s one for Caturday (why do I always find these little gems after the diner has gotten quiet for the day?):
I can has language play: Construction of Language and Identity in LOLspeak
(h/t Krugman)
BoxTurtle, here is a link to the National Phenology Network
You can join them in compiling records of observations just like you mentioned, with the goal of understanding better the results of environmental changes on local plants and animals.
I heard about them on my public radio station several years ago.
O/T again. Mama Hummingbird is resting. It was cool how when the sun went down she sat really still and I could barely see her move. Pretty awesome and I am totally hooked on it. *g*
Related to my #101 above, from a comment at that web page (my bold):
“lolcats didn’t start on icanhascheezburger, before that they were popular on 4chan.org /b/ board, where they were posted on Saturday and people were calling it Caturday“
Popyeye, did you follow the Decorah bald eagles when they were hatching and fledging last spring and summer? Several folks here were watching. Talk about addictive!!
I think they’ll be back in about February.
EDIT: there’s still a webcam on the nest:
http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles
That was a great link. The first mention of Caturday I remember is from Maru’s website WTF Is It Now.
on edit. I don’t know what happened, but months ago she stopped writing it. There had been some health problems with family, I think I remember.
No I didn’t see it last year but I have the link bookmarked and I am ready this year. I can’t remember who sent me the link it was either you or Demi.
I am surprised the webcam is still up on an empty nest. But I do know from last year that the eagle parents start working on the nest well in advance, so maybe they’re expecting some activity soon.
I never heard of that. Too bad she’s not still active. But honestly, I don’t need ONE MORE website/blog to visit. Granted it’s not a terribly busy day today for me, but it is after 10 a.m. and I’m still in my jammies in my comfy chair drinking tea and surfing.
Must. Get. Moving.
Phoebe fills her crop with enough nectar and small insects to last her through the night. She stays on the nest to keep the hatchlings temp steady.
Same here, just pulled a turtleneck, jeans and sweatshirt on. I have totally lost my focus around here. The house is a mess, I’ve done no Christmas prep other that decorating the house. I simply can’t concentrate on anything. Extra shot of blonde in my coffee, I guess.
Some days, the best we can do is curl up with our favorite dog (or goat) and take a nap. This feels like it is shaping up to be one of those days. The anniversary of Bush vs. Gore, why should anything go right today? :-(
Oh lord, rc. I would never have remembered the date. Yep, nap with pet of choice is the right route.
I should never, ever have put my computer monitor on my desk. Where I need to concentrate. Somehow I don’t grasp the concept of turning off the screen :)
Third time is the charm, they say…
((rc)) and scritches to Riley the Penultimate Dog.
Wow!!!!!! The day democracy died. How’d I miss that anniversary.
Maybe we should have started the revolution when the recount was stopped. Just think, John Bolton of Brooks Brothers Riot fame could be the next Sec of Defense or State.
Ruth et al:
No toads here in SE Texas either. We also don’t have them lizards that change colors, fireflies (although we called them lighning bugs), dragon flies OR sensible, responsible and respectable republican candidates for president.
Colour me redfaced and mannerless. Welcome to the Diner, newcarguy. Would you like a cup of coffee? Fresh pot right here….
Don’t even THINK that. We still have the US Senate to deny Newt any of his crazy appointments.
I’m not usually here because you guys get up too DAMN early for me. All the smart and witty comments have already been taken by the time I show up. I’ll take a cup. A little amaretto and two of the blue stuff please.
newcarguy, the Senate exists to deny Obama’s appointments. Gonna be different for Newt.
I missed the republican demolition derby over the weekend. I heard Newt’s car was damaged but still running at the end???? Anybody…
If demi, on the other side of the WORLD, practically, can get here on time, I should think that you could set your alarm a little earlier and so not deprive us of your unique perspective, vocabulary and usage.
Sorry, I don’t know HOW I made THAT mistake. I’ll better once I wake up.
I got nuthin, as per usual. And I’ve got.to.get.out.of.here and do something on my list. Just one thing on my list, surely…
Stick around and someone is sure to slide into that booth beside you :)
I’m on SSRI (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors) and it takes a while for them to kick in in the morning. 0945 is about the best I can do. :-)
Perhaps D-Day will file a :”post mortem” later. I hate to miss a train wreck, but I had to bleed a boil.
On second thought, I don’t want that other half of sticky bun….ewwww. Did anyone else sign up for it? Or just Newt and Donald, knee to knee?
on edit: you truly are a hoot.
Oh boy, is that ever right. I’ll never lose the image of all those right wing bastards rioting, most of them Rethug Congressional staffers. No police reaction, what a surprise. Compare to how OWS gets treated. The battle lines have been drawn for awhile, by the other side, and our side is just waking up enough to see them. BTW, Riley is “lapping up” all the attention, says the Geico Gecko better watch his ass.
I think my daughter is hooked now as well. She asks me to tell her when the mother fly’s away so she can see the babies.
I hear Newt has a “Hummer” and it’s ugly. Always been ugly. See what I’m not saying?
Wish you hadn’t said THAT! LOL
You ain’t fully addicted til ya start callin’ her Phoebe. It’s raining at the nest and hummers love flyin’ in the rain. Love misters and sprinklers too.
Got it. Phoebe it is *g*
What are people still doing here? Ha Ha.
I know this place stays open all day.
Om, it just feels like I live on the other side of the world. That was funny.
I just finished the book I was reading over the weekend, so I came back to see what I missed.
Hello, transworld time traveler :)
I’m working on Christmas stockings, just filling them, actually. That is the most fun of the holiday, the stockings. Do you have items that are “must haves” every year?
I’ve got feet that will fill any stocking you have. You know my email handle lol.
Obama says he asked Iran to give our drone back. Next he’ll ask the banksters to return their fraudulently obtained profits. Got me to thinking about the gorgeous gold bracelet I gave my last girlfriend. Which of those requests do y’all think would get the most favorable response? (eye roll)
Things have changed so much over the years. In the past we always looked forward to playing music at church on xmas eve. We stopped going to church this year, so that won’t be happening.
I’m starting new traditions this year. I just got off the phone with the dirctor of the temporary winter shelter at the nearby armory and I’m meeting with him this evening to discuss Chris and I coming down there on xmas day with goodies and music. Caroling, ya know? So, once I meet with gentleman and tour the facility, I’ll have a better idea of what I can do to help make xmas a little better for a few.
I’m SO Excited!
I will see ya’ll later goin to the doctor for my 6 months follow up. Back in a while. Stay safe *g*.
Good on you Demi. Spread the Holiday cheer around. *g*
Good on you. Lotta pups doin’ stuff that should inspire others to follow suit. Some don’t believe in it but “I am my brother’s keeper” is an honourable way to live.
Hope you get an A+ :)
That is the true meaning of the holiday, and you will be making it much brighter for some people who could really use the cheer. That’s fantastic.
That wouldn’t be what anyone was expecting when they reached in, that’s for sure.
Here goes John’s traditional tin of anchovies, though….
Just trying to be instep with the season. ;-)
Hi, y’all, popping in for a moment of cheer up – Found a message from my landlord saying we “need to talk” about my “continuing to feed the stray cats.”
We made an agreement last time we talked that I could, in fact, continue to feed the feral cats.Somebody has complained, I presume, and I’m ticked off. Haven’t returned the call yet, need to calm down.
Also, read Krugman’s blog a little while ago; about Europe heading down a really, really dangerous path. Haven’t even being paying attention to Hungary, which is behaving in a way we’ve seen before, circa 1932…Very scary.
On top of the fact that I’ve been reading novels and history about WWII. Yeah, we shoulda rebelled at the “Brooks Bros. Riot.” Slippery slope, and we’re slipping faster and faster.
Some of the (perceived) problems with my ferals could be solved with money, dammit. I need a job, so have to get cracking shortly.
I feel better already, unburdening to my community.
And {{{RevBev + Angela}}} good to hear the night and morning have been good. Good thoughts your way. : )
The guy with the dogs.
Smoodgie’s not feral. She’s a stray who you’re attempting to make an indoor kitteh. *g*
Well, she’s so skittish, I think she is basically feral. The thing is, the law protects feeding ferals. Not strays. So she is definitely feral.
Gotta run, got an appointment. Keep up the good work, everybody, and especially {{demi}}.
I need to find someplace to volunteer on Christmas Day, too, as it looks like I will be here. Should a done it for Thanksgiving, too, but didn’t get myself together soon enough.
SD, I should add, I think the complainants may have been the family with the allergic-to-cats kids.
I’ve heard the dad yell at strays; he’s a yeller, in general, actually. I can often hear the arguments through the back door. Maybe I’m biased, but it sounds to me like he’s an authoritarian type who loses his temper a lot.
Now when he talks to me he- well, the old southern expression comes to mind — butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth.
But when he’s been outside working on something without knowing I was in earshot, I’ve heard him in nasty mode.
I feel like I’m in a hostile environment right now, and wish I could afford to move. I’d scoop up Smoodgie for sure, whether she liked it or not, and maybe eve Big Boy, who is probably the real problem. And I feel so for him…he hangs around after eating now, gazing at the door like Smoodgie…hurrying up if I come out, then turning to back up towards me so he can accept the head scritching he really, really wants (but can’t accept if he sees the hand coming towards his head..)
Oops, here I am talking kittehs at a non-Caturday post. Sorry those who aren’t kitteh people…it’s that kinda day.
Gotcha.
; )
I don’t think anyone minds kitteh talk here, ever. You are really stressed right now, I’m so sorry. Smoodgie and Big Boy are so lucky that they have you looking out for them. Makes me feel so sad to imagine him wanting the petting but having been so frightened by something in the past that he can’t accept your touch.
All animal people understand. Good on you for being concerned about any of our furry brethren. ;-)
Unless they’re really familiar with you, a human reaching down towards their head scares them. Even Gabby backs away sometimes when he’s not expecting me to reach down towards him.
Was Gabby a feral when you got him?
This hot water feels good. It is freezing out – that damp, chills you to the bone cold. Chattanooga winters are often this way. And here is a mug for demi: Happiness is a cup of coffee and a good book.
I’m baking peppermint stick chocolate brownies for my vet and her staff. Except I left a considerable amount in the mixing bowl instead of putting it in the pan. And a spoon. A spoon was somehow left in the bowl, as well….
Teri, the vet, lives down the street. She used to make house calls when Tigris wasn’t doing so well. Her staff became kind of like family.
Better go check on the
bowlbrownies.Found a piece by Eugene Frisen, who I think probably played the cello on the Paul Winter Wolf Eyes from this morning. This is the first time I have heard it. If you like that, here is an older one from the album I have. Twofer.
Yep.
I did and everything is okay. :)
We talk about anything here at the Diner. Glad you feel comfortable in unloading your burdens here. We have your back. :)
My daughter named the baby birds today. Phoebe Jr. Ivy, and Clover. Pretty cool that she first looked at the Phoebe Cam right when she got home from school.
FWIW I have a new diary up for those who are interested. As always I value the opinions and comments from everyone.
http://my.firedoglake.com/popyeye99/2011/12/12/occupy-supply-st-louis/
That is great to hear! Bet you are pleased just a little bit, too :)
Yes a little. He said the reason I can’t reduce any weight might be due to a genetic thing. I don’t think I can swim anymore than I do. *g*
Have you considered adding a small shark to the pool? One way or the other, I bet you’d lose some weight. (Just tryin’ to be helpful here.)
If you send me a DNA sample, I can tell you whether it’s a genetic thing or whether you’re just a fat bastard. ;-)
Thanks bro good idea but the other members might squawk a little. :)
I think I am a fat bastard. Or two arms two legs and a belly. But hey at least I’m honest. *g*
Oh, now you’ve made me feel guilty. I was just trying to make up for calling you a skinny bastard the other day. ;-)
Really I am a Greek God LOL.
I never understood why people would want to be a Greek god. Why not a Norse god? Did you hear the one about Thor, the Norse god of War, awakening the morning after a massive orgy in Valhalla, and while strolling away he came upon a lovely Valkyrie. So lovely, in fact, that he walked right up to her and said, “Hi, I’m Thor.” To which, she replied, “YOU’RE THOR! I’m tho thor I can hardly pith!!”
*snort*
If Om Ali comes back….
You are such a doll!!
Ask me in the morning about our visit to the amory shelter tonight.
I’m just over here in the corner working on Marx with Prof. Wolff.
I’m a doll? Huh? Thank you…. But yes, I want to hear about the shelter visit!
Need more coffee in the meanwhile…..
So…the Socialist worries about higher wages, better housing, regulations, services, subsidized health care for the exploited workers, but the real problem is….that they are exploited in the first place. Hmmmm…..but how do you devise a system which allows the worker (who produces the surplus) to participate in the appropriation and distribution of that surplus. And, I assume, a role in the decisions about to whom and in what proportion the surpus is ultimately distributed….am I the only one here??? Good. I get the last piece of carrot cake. That’ll show you damn slackers.
NOT IN MY SOUP!!!
You scared the @#$% out of me!
Bring your notebook and sit down.
“am I the only one here???”
Yes, if you’re going to talk economics. Wanna share that carrot cake?
Was it my face?
Only if you promise to wash the plate. SD’s girlfriend and her cats will be here to finish tidying up and I don’t want to leave a mess :) You can share, but I’ve got to get back to work :)
No, it was your VOLUME!
Oh, sorry darlin’, I was making a desperate attempt to keep SD’s sputum out of my split pea soup. Not sure I succeeded, though. Hard to tell.
I’m not looking at that word. And don’t you dare say it.
rc, you are the funniest person I have ever met. I am smiling so hard it hurts. Now, I’m going back to studying. Are you ok? Don’t want to ignore you but I’m fading fast :)
You always hurt the ones you love lol. I’m OK, just trying to figure this crazy world out enough to know how the markets are going to react to it all. Honestly, it’s never been as tough to do as it is right now. But, that’s my path. Me and the beast are fine, got him a new bed today (actually three, cushions off a couch someone was getting rid of), and he is deigning to try it out right now. Suspiciously, but driven by the comfort fairy. I’m ready for bed, so I’ll wish you a good night and sweet dreams. Don’t take any wooden Marxists. Shut the lights when you leave. ;-)
Will do. Sleep well. Thank you, rc, you are a good friend.
omg I’m a serf….
I’d say the chances of being offered any Marxists, wooden or otherwise, are slim to none.
OK (I mean ok) lights……out
