Not had, but still was already 44 when I came upstairs… Threat of freezing overnight… shit we aren’t in Maine are we???
Christmas music, Morphine style.
Oh, and hi!
Woohoo! Beach Boys! Shindig! Nostalgia trip!
Once again, I intend to go to bed early and find myself still awake. 34degrees here, expected to drop to 27 degrees! Brrrrr! Not San Antonio weather!
I was downtown yesterday for jury duty, having to hoof it for a change. About 42 and dampish most of the day. I dressed for it; tshirt under sweater, coat (Texas-style, not Mass or Indiana-style: short, not terribly heavy, no hood), gloves and long thick scarf. Even had a loose-knit cap in my pocket, which I put on in the evening.
Looking around, lots of people wearing no more than a hoodie for warmth. Many people just don’t have winter wear; coats are expensive, and only needed for relatively short periods.
Tell me about climate change! Winter here used to be a few weeks in January. That’s been changing the last few years.
hannibal! how ya doing tonight?
Oh,my fave BB tune evah!
Barbara Ann? Second fave for dancing, right after “Help Me Rhonda.” That one always got me out of my chair and moving.
tejan! dang *shivering in sympathy* are ya sitting on a jury or did you get excused?
that’s not the bb’s singing that ba ba ba barbara ann…
beach boys doing mamas and papas
McInsane killed Barbara Ann for me…! 8-(
Doing great. Dumped my DSL for cable, no more of that overpriced, super crappy AT&T bullshit. Getting rid of my land line too, waste of money really.
the only reason i have a land line is it came with the cable upgrade my landlord did to get me faster speed since they know i work online from home. its a nice backup for the dropped calls that happen a lot here on the coast. i’ve got cape meares between me and the cell tower
I’m sending good thoughts your way, wmd! I’m sure you will do fine.
You kidding? No, I never get selected. Who wants even a former/recovering lawyer on their jury?
Not too sorry on this one; a death case, in which I suspect, from the answers in voir dire, there will be a lot of arguing on both liability and damages. Still, it would have been interesting. Probably I’ll never get to serve.
hey margot — how’s ohio tonight?
Yeah, I know, dammit. The thought crossed my mind, but I pushed it away. *g*
does getting that close to a case in a courtroom reinforce the why you are a former/recovering lawyer or does it get ya jonesing to get back in the game again?
Police Rip Clothes Off Female ‘Occupy Melbourne’ Protester
I love the genius idea of wearing tents as clothes to prevent confiscation. Hope it goes viral. Though this young woman suffered the indignity of having her tent ripped off of her, leaving her only in her underwear, the viral videos of the assault can only create more mass tent attire. As the occupiers demanded, what law is there to decide what clothing is legal?

All’s well, dog is on her couch (she lets me lie there occasionally) and I have hot coffee to warm me. Love the Beach Boys, thanks Suz:)
Guessing wmd is having some surgery? (he may be gone to bed by now).
If you’re still here, catch the good vibes, thoughts and even prayers (should you be willing to accept them) for you.
hey robert — how’s soPA tonight?
he’s having hip surgery tomorrow
Niters Pups… Hope ya all sleep well and have fantastic dreams when ya get there…☺ ☺ ♥ ♥ ♥
Everything’s illegal when you’re taking on the status quo. Notice that cops were all nice and polite with the extremely violent Black Friday shoppers. They were doing what they’re supposed to do, so no problem. It’s almost frightening to think what the stupid cops would do if faced with a group that really challenged the status quo.
Occupiers should start showing up in body armor and full face helmets.
merry christmas baby
Currently 50 degrees, but a bitter cold system is chasing it away….
catch a wave
50? Damn, I live in San Diego and it’s about 40 here.
i came close but didn’t quite hit 50 as my high today
Some of both, actually.
Central Jury Room is in “new-er” courthouse, across from cafeteria, where I’ve spent quite a bit of time hanging out, grabbing caffeine, meeting people.
Jury panel, voir dire, held in a courtroom in old, 19th cent. courthouse, where I’ve really spent a lot of time. Climbing the stairs, finding the hidden corridor, uncrowded ladies room, glancing in the doors…bittersweet. Good memories and bad.
Democratic judges all swept out in 2010 election, so unfamiliar names on familiar courtrooms. New, third building for administration just completed, so I’d never been in it, lots of offcies moved over there; odd feeling. I don’t know my way around any more.
I definitely would not want to be preparing for a five-day jury trial. Talking nice to panel members who are clearly ignorant fools (yes, I said it), preparing to offer comfort to clients, prepare and practice direct and cross of witnesses, marshal the witnesses, etc., cross swords w/ opposing counsel…nope, just thinking about it, watching them do some of it made me tense.
But passed a few familiar faces (many lawyers passing who are clearly too young to have been in practice when I last was), and being nodded to by some staff who apparently assumed I was a lawyer, or recognized my face vaguely, and it was some ways like being home.
Odd, all around.
Perhaps the poles are slowly shifting and, soon, the USA will be where South America is now….
evening, Suzzzz – firegods
hey ppd – how was your day?
that makes total sense to me — i could see how it would be a mix. i’ve no desire to get back involved in law enforcement but some cases in the media do pique my interest.
if i were to be visiting the pd, the mix of old and new faces would be jarring. those kids running around wearing a badge and sidearm barely looked old enough to vote last time i was there
good, thanks – watching A Serious Man on DVD tonight
california girls with hope and benny
LOL. Yup. ‘Zackly.
Saw several young guys, probably lawyers from their clothing and purposeful strides, but with that spiky, standing-up top-of-the-head hair that I do not associate with serious men, like lawyers. Ulp. Slap me silly and call me…old.
Oh well. This is what happens as we age, I guess.
i thought the young ones coming in were too young back when i was still working there — can only imagine how highschool-looking they are now.
i get the department’s monthly newsletter and there are so many names i don’t recognize getting promoted and or anniversary dates recognized. i don’t think my get outta jail card would work there anymore…
i get around
Not in the same ways I used to.
Highs in the low 20′s this week. Wishing wmd the best.
Hello Suz and pups. Lack of anything else really constructive to do, working a bit more time on the recall, a few extra days at the county organization’s office. Saving some money to pay for my FEE speech in Madison.
hey nonq — how ya doing tonight?
Well, gotta go. Will make feeble effort to get up early in the morning and try to clean up, put up some Christmas decorations.
Thanks for the company!
Good night, all.
My niece will be taking the bar next summer — alot of work to do between now and then
I am doing OK, yesterday was the absolute last of the necessary outside work to prep for snowfall. Looking at the household and sorting and organizing. As someone threw out DSL above, I might be able to get DSL and toss dial-up. Trying to negotiate with a phone company to customize their set “plans,” is a bit of fun. I want a longer period of time at their introductory rates (five instead of two years) and inclusion of the double data rate using a second line offer, along with no penalty for dropping their service, before end of contract, if it turns out unsatisfactory.
in what state ppd? i’ve heard the ca bar is a tough one
yay for being ready for snow! and you will not regret getting rid of your dialup… have ya searched around and looked for the best deals that that you can tell your provider you are thinking of taking in order to entice your provider to agreeing to what you want?
Eevenin’, Suzanne and all-
Can’t stay-just wanted to say hi. Three days left in the semester, a paper to finish, grading to do, blah blah. Hope everyone is well, and I’ll be back soon.
hey rond — woohoo to 3 more days!
fun fun fun
Yeah. Can almost taste it. If I can just finish this damn paper, I can grade on cruise control…Oooh. That’s a good idea.
That’s pretty simple with only one provider available and potentially affordable. The personnel at the phone company don’t seem to know the company contract fine print, or are not used to answering questions from someone who has actually read it. Got the number to call a third tier supervisor tomorrow. Will ask if my recorded conversation with their sales operator promising faster connection speed than listed on the company website is their normal sales strategy for new customers in the area.
i gotta head out a wee bit early tonight peeps. thank you for letting me hang out with ya tonight — hope to hear ya on tomorrow’s occupy supply liaison webinar
Sorry Suz, @74 was for you. Off to bed, now. Going to help update data at the recall office, tomorrow. I have not heard any updated totals from the state organizations on Walker, but one of the four newly eligible for recall republican state senators has had enough signatures gathered to force an election, already.
From the WI republican catch 22 playbook:
So, some folks may need a birth certificate to get a photo ID to vote, but they are told by the State and County bureaucracies they need a photo ID to get a birth certificate. What is this the U.S. Army?
The quote is in the article from Michael Leon’s blog.
