Sunday Late Night: In Newt Hampshire, a Turnaround? |
| By: Teddy Partridge Sunday November 27, 2011 8:01 pm |
Left unstaffed by the side of the road the previous summer, the longtime DC insider’s campaign for president limped along without TradMed respect until the New Hampshire Union-Leader’s publisher endorsement acknowledged that maybe the GOP would return to form again in its nominating process: wasn’t it really this guy’s turn?

2 More Arrested at Occupy Tucson, Citations Surpass 700 |

Joan was a little jacked when I caught up with her after her overnight incarceration, a little hyper still. After she had a chance to say hi to some friends and exchange some hugs, we sat underneath a tree in the park and had a quiet conversation. Turns out she had never been read her rights, which fits rather well with all else that is occurring in our nation. Neither had she been allowed a phone call to her attorney. In the morning she was arraigned via video conferencing, albeit the arraignment did not include a mention of what the charges were against her. The judge did manage to tell her when she would be required to appear before the court once again.
Kansas HS Student Won’t Apologize to Governor for Tweet |
| By: Teddy Partridge Sunday November 27, 2011 5:45 pm |
High school tweeter Emma Sullivan, citing free speech and Ghandi, will defy her high school principal and not apologize to Governor Sam Brownback for the supposedly hurtful things she twittered to her (then-60) Twitter followers, implying she spoke back harshly to the governor, called him out publicly for his views, and suggested he blows — a lot.
None of which, we suppose, is true. Or (until the governor’s director of communications demanded an apology) widely known — whether true or not.

Indian athletes will meet on December 5 to decide whether or not to boycott the 2012 London Olympics. The issue is an Olympic sponsorship deal with Dow Chemical, “under fire in India for its ownership of Union Carbide, whose Indian subsidiary was responsible for the Bhopal industrial disaster, … estimated to have killed up to 25,000 people and injured over half a million.”

FDL Book Salon Welcomes John Geyman, Breaking Point – How the Primary Care Crisis Endangers the Lives of Americans |
| By: Wendell Potter Sunday November 27, 2011 1:59 pm |
Just last week, the 34-nation Organization for Economic Cooperation Development (OECD) released the results of its most recent study of the health care systems in the 40 counties considered to be “developed.” It came as no surprise to see that the U.S. health care system—if we can even call it a system—is still by far the most expensive on the planet.
We spend two-and-a-half times more on health care per person than the OECD average.
After reading Dr. John Geyman’s latest book, Breaking Point—How the Primary Care Crisis Endangers the Lives of Americans, I now understand why and how we have sunk so low.

Black Friday Sales up 7% – Was It Worth This? |
| By: Pam Spaulding Sunday November 27, 2011 12:30 pm |
I figured that there would be stories about Black Friday melees, as shoppers camped out to be first in line as big retailers hyped up specials. I also expected a few stories of violence and frenzy.
