The cost for Italy to borrow has been steadily rising and is now approaching the level at which experts believe it can’t service its debt payments. That means the Euro crisis, which could significantly affect the US, is getting worse, the previous bailouts have failed and the institutions that could save this are looking at each other not knowing what to do.

President Obama’s reelection poll numbers have slightly improved, giving him a slight edge over a generic Republican opponent and also a lead over Mitt Romney. That change has corresponded to recent slight improvement in American’d confidence in the economy.

The Occupy Wall Street movement has succeeded in changing the focus of Washington’s economic attention from deficit and debts to questions of economic justice and jobs. The President’s pivot to jobs hasn’t gotten a single jobs bill through Congress, but the changed conversation has killed the momentum of the Super Committee and created predictions of its failure.

The Family Research Council is the organization that recently awarded Congressman Joe Walsh an award for supposedly fighting for “family values” even though Walsh owes over $100,000 in child support. Walsh’s statement accepting the award takes today’s hypocrisy award.

Chief of Staff Bill Daley is giving up day-to-day operations at the White House, with Pete Rouse taking over. I’m not sure there’s anything else to the job other than day-to-day operations; that’s kind of what a Chief of Staff does, unless he’s the corporate bagman.
