84-Year Old Woman Tells Her Story of Being Pepper Sprayed, Saved by Veteran at Occupy Seattle Protest |
| By: Kevin Gosztola Thursday November 17, 2011 9:40 am |
Dorli Rainey, 84, was on her way to what she calls a “boring” Transportation Meeting when she saw helicopters flying around. She thought they were out for a nearby Occupy Seattle action and headed to the scene. Rainey joined Occupy Seattle for a demonstration and ended up being pepper-sprayed.
She appeared on “Countdown” with Keith Olbermann last night and told her story.
Nevada Indicts Two LPS Employees on 606 Counts of Robo-Signing |
| By: David Dayen Thursday November 17, 2011 8:50 am |
A grand jury in Nevada yesterday indicted two title officers, Gary Trafford and Gerri Sheppard, on 606 counts of robo-signing between 2005 and 2008, a scheme that resulted in the fraudulent filing of tens of thousands of other documents with the Clark County register of deeds. This has the potential to be a groundbreaking case; it’s the first I can think of which actually indicts a robo-signer on criminal charges for fraud. And by going after the title officers, the Attorney General of Nevada, Catherine Cortez Masto, appears to be laying out a strategy to go up the chain and hollow out the entire industry and their illegal document fraud.
Celebrate #OWS! |

It kicks off this morning at 7AM with a street theatre event, The Wall Street Carnival Block Party. They plan to overwhelm the Stock Exchange’s Opening Bell, with The People’s Bell. Instead of trading shares of stock, they’re going to trade the stories of the 99%. How cool is that? The stories traded will highlight the need for jobs, infrastructure repair, the unfairness of the current tax system, and the unfairness of austerity cuts that harm the most vulnerable among us.
Trainers, Marines, Troops Everywhere; More US Deployments Around the Globe |

This needless drive to place little army men around the globe like it’s a Risk board, regardless of the expense, only serves a purpose for the little megalomaniacs in the Pentagon who think we have to stretch our military might everywhere. For the rest of us, it just flushes our tax dollars down the drain.
Live Blog for #Occupy Movement: Massive Day of Action to Shut Down Wall Street |
| By: Kevin Gosztola Thursday November 17, 2011 6:07 am |
The day of action was planned well-ahead of the raid (here is a video of the call to action). The bold nature of the plans (“Shut down Wall St!”) likely freaked out the city, as it has seen how powerful the movement has become and that they are capable of turning out thousands of people.
Today, Occupy Wall Street marks its two-month anniversary. The march has taken off for the New York Stock Exchange. It left from the park, paused at the red cube and is moving onward to get as close to the NYSE as possible.

- The answer, obviously, is more guns.
- House Dems recommend tax cuts.
- Can’t imagine why.
- Yes, it should.
- Stay classy, Texas Republicans.

Right-wing conservatives can be hypocritics, idiots, torturers and perpetual war-mongers running for higher office just to set themselves up on life’s grand buffet tour.
But for the Left it always comes down to being dirty fucking hippies, the media — even those mocking the media — can portray them no other way.

Don’t forget about the Nationwide Day of Mass Action tomorrow. I will be Occupying a dentist’s chair in the morning, unfortunately, and missing the LA event, which is at 7am.
