A few headlines:
- Peter Orszag blames the Super Committee’s failure on income inequality. Or you can just look at the charts/graphs.
- The Egyptian military to press ahead on elections, apologizes for all the killings, but journalist Mona Eltahawy got beaten and arrested anyway.
- Surprise plot! Iowa conservatives don’t want Mitt!
- Do you know where your car is? NY court says just ask the police.
- Yemen’s leader to spend more time with family.
- Police behaving badly? Blame 9/11!

About Firedoglake
Good morning, Scarecrow, thanks for getting up and hosting Swim on a holiday morning. Should get overtime for that, don’t you think :)
Been in the kitchen all morning cooking, and the house smells so good. Hope everyone has a good day with friends and loved ones.
Happy, Happy
from
ohmmmm
Oh, Happy Day, Om.
Nice to see you.
Elliot put up an early early thread where some pups have been. You can catch up with some of today’s plans there. :)
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Demi. I’ll take a peek downstairs.
I couldn’t help but laugh at that Orzag column where he mentioned how much Obama got done in the first two years when the Dems so dominated DeeCee.
The Public Option, Financial regulations, Judicial appointments, Dawn Johnsen, Card Check. Why it was almost a progressive paradise.
Oh wait. Never Mind
Overtime? Yes, I’m over time, every since watching that NOVA show, where they showed that “time” is an illusion; when you are depends entirely on which way you are looking across the stream of events. Our perspective is across this moment, perpendicular to the flow; but we could have a different perspective, at an angle forward or backward, and we could see any point in the past or any point in the future — that is, everything has already happened, from a certain point of view.
I think I need another coffee…. :)
Can we change what has or will happen?
Mornin’, Scarecrow, pups
Happy Thanxgiver to all y’all.
See: illusion, as in Scarecrow’s time comment, above @ 5 :)
Morning, dakine.
Happy Thanksgiving, SD, and good morning.
Orszag:
New model? This was all known in 2008 — and long before. O had his chance for the first two years, and could have locked in D leadership of the House, had he only done what the people who put him in office wanted him to do
Automatic decision-making? Designed by an asshole like Orszag? Like a balanced budget? Give me a break.
When you Google “1%er,” it should show a picture of O hugging this asshole.
Oh, thanks and happy T-Day, Scarecrow.
Gotta go, have the bestest ever
ohmmm
Slept in this a.m. Good morning to all. Happy Thanksgiving.
Peter Orszag is, if anything, to the right of President Obama. His interest in health care has always been cost-control and Medicare “reform”, and not granting access to the uninsured per se. When Obama wasted a year on health care reform without clearly enunciating the moral basis for his plan, he was speaking in Orszag’s language.
B-b-but, when they amped up the police state after 9/11, we were told this would only be used against the muslim terrists!
Good to see you Dakine. I really enjoy all your articles on jobs i have learned a lot from you. Thanks for being here.
that’s a really good question. Because the answer is yes, you can change stuff, that prolly means that what you’re looking at when you look at the angle of the future, is the effects of all the choices that have been made, I think.
so last night, the NOVA show was on the idea that we really have multi universes, not just one. Imagine, a universe with no Mitt, no Newt, no Perry/Cain.
One can only dream eh?
You’re welcome. I just wish I and others weren’t in the position of having to learn all this crap about jobs because we actually had full time employment in our chosen fields.
Deja vu ?
I makes my heart sick to read about all the people who are jobless. I got the axe a couple times in 2010 but lucky for me I am on SSID. You know living off the gubmint teat. But at least I take baths. *g*
Like Paradise Lost? Squandered what could have been an FDR rebirth. Now we are in for a decade or more of shit no matter who wins.
Or maybe it’s deja deja vu vu.
One of the interesting parts of the multi-universe program was the debate about whether the theory was valid, because they couldn’t think of any way to prove or test it empirically, and there was no way for beings in one universe to contact any beings in another universe. As though, it doesn’t exist unless we can test it.
That never seems to apply in today’s political discussions. People say stuff alla time that is complete gibberish, but their side treats it as fact that doesn’t require further proof.
I’m so there.
I’ll see if I can find a repeat of the show.
Nice universe with no republican conservatives. Can we all go there, soon please.
What was the title of the show? It sounds really interesting. Sometimes they rerun shows and I can search for it. I would like to record that one.
And have a safe and warm Thanksgiving everyone. Be with friends.
Orzag: “There is almost no overlap in views across party lines.”
LOL – that one left me speechless.
Thanks for hosting and you stay safe. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
The Nova series is called Fabric of the Universe
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/
I read an idea recently that says it might be tested at the limits of the known universe bc the supposed distances between the multiverse suggests one may be impinging by now on the outer limits of our universe and that would be different than our own. Who knows.
Thanks I will check it out.
On Edit: They have a video of the whole program on the website.
I have offered many times to raise taxes, build a giant space ship, and let all the warmongers and cruel people migrate to Mars. I’d like to stay here.
The police state is the top concern. Repression is a societal disease enforcing bad policy for the benefit of the few at the cost of the many. Feudalism is being resurrected. I have always lived on less but the trade of was I felt free. The solutions are blocked by the greedy.
Good morning, everyone.
Happy Thanksgiving TIME, one and all …
What we call “time” is best understood as being “like” a helix … and, because of “time’s” curvature, even if you are not cross with it, the “event-horizon” is very “limited”. In timely circles, among the squares, “forward notation” is said to be on the “outside”, for lack of a better word, “surface” of the helix, while “backward notation” is said to be on the “inside”, again, for lack of a better word, “surface”. It is the mobius “twists” of “time” which are often, essentially, “contiguous” to “other” dimensions of “time” which may be said to account for those “moments” when one feels “out of it” or “pressed” for “time”. It is always “best” to go with the “flow”, for being “stuck” in “time” is akin to be “preserved” in amber. The apparent speeding-up or slowing-down of “time”, owing to the way that “time” is usually “measured”, as something being “passed” or “passed through” tends to obscure from our understanding what we might consider to be (for lack of a better word) “milestones” of “time”, making them, to our way of “thinking”, more “important” than such “measures” actually are, as we tend to think of “beginnings” and of “ends” …
It is often said that, “there is no time like the present”, and for sentient(?) beings, such as we imagine ourselves to be, this is absolutely “true”, as the resonant images of each “moment” are, by their intrinsic nature, always shifting … at least from our rather limited perspectives, and singular “point” of view.
May we all enjoy OUR time and appreciate it to its fullest “extent”, while sharing it most generously, with each other and with all living things which share “OUR” world?

That’s all well and good, but how do you account for the fact I lost Tuesday? Can’t recall a thing about it; not sure it even happened this week.
I once had the notion that space expands as the universe – and light – travels and that outside that is, well, not space, just nothing. If there is space beyond the universe, it clearly suggests there are other universes bc particles are always coming into and leave existence in space. So too in empty space, another universe would emerge. Just weird thoughts.
There was a random moron on CNBC a couple of mornings ago arguing that the income gap is the result of the education gap.
In this guy’s mind, the very few who are paid more money than God are the smartest and best educated, while the vast majority of society are stupid and illiterate products of public education.
He explicitly said that it’s not pc to say so because of the teachers’ unions, etc. But what he kept saying amounts to his belief that what happened over the last 10-15 years can be blamed on teachers and workers.
I remember when the smartest people in our society weren’t as stupid as this a$$hole.
There was a show on the science channel not too long ago that suggested that we were all just images of the real thing. somehow to preserve the idea of conservation of information that had to be true. Beyond me.
Tuesday? There was no Tuesday the week, Scarecrow …
Yesterday was Windy and today is Thirsty …
You must not become fixated on “things”, my friend.
Research shows that everything is simply a “state” of “mind”.
Now “mind” is, often, like a lump … of “what” is … to be or not to be … (for the lack of a better word …) “determined”.
If you are determined that there SHOULD “be” a “Tuesday”, then either Congress, SCOTUS, or the new and improved Unitary Present-density will have to make said determination and the appropriate proclamations …
“Tuesday” is reserved for Wimpy’s repayment for hamburgers, on the Cosmic Determinant Scale … at least according to the legend in the lower right-hand corner, in the very, very tiny, fine print …

How about Governors behaving badly, just the same as Fascists. Who is more of a Fascist than Governor Sam Brownbutt who supported wars and torture as a Senator. The Governor now has nothing better to do than threaten high schooI students who do not support him. I blame it on the internets.
The Governor monitors the Twitter Machine and was not amused. High School students should not make derogatory comments about our neo-con One percenters.
The high school senior got sent to the Principal’s Office for an HOUR! The Governor’s office is requiring “damage control”. Plus she has to write a note to the Stupidest Governor Ever and ask forgiveness. That is she must apologize for something she did not say.
And is Emma really sincere about her apology? No. She is required to apologize or her college plans might be jeopardized by the Governor’s office or the School District. Emma is “Liberal”. I blame it on the School district.
That is an amazing story, deserves a post. Can you resend the link, please?

Emma might be going viral as the kids say.

The Twitter has these hash tag thingies, #heblowsalot
I hope it goes viralllll…a great lesson here about freedom of speech or somethin’….Cheers for Emma.
I guess the truth hurts eh? Kudos for her.
Orszag is just trying to help align Obama with OWS.
Sounds like a first salvo of baby steps.
