Despite being the “best little whore in Texas” — The Secessionist is running out of dough.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign fundraising has gone into a tailspin as a result of poor debate performances and plunging poll numbers, jeopardizing his position as the best-funded Republican presidential candidate of 2012.
Perry’s associates and supporters say his campaign has redoubled its money-raising efforts in the past week to ensure that his campaign will have enough money to survive the first three contests of the 2012 election calendar: Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
But Perry’s loyal backers are running into resistance from Republican donors. One Perry fundraiser, who asked not to be named, said he received 15 RSVPs for a recent event from potential donors saying they might attend. But after a gaffe-marred Perry debate performance, none showed up.
I don’t think it has anything to do with gaffes. His campaign was effectively over when he told GOP voters to their faces that they were heartless if they disagreed with him on keeping out the brown people.

I don’t understand TX politics, so perhaps you could explain something.
If Perry stops running for prez, won’t he remain gov of TX? Doesn’t he have enough goodies to give away in that position to attract donations?
Inquiring minds….
Heh. They’re giving their money to Newt. All that money given to Perry down the drain.
All the Oppo work for Newt is already done. Guns are loaded. He’ll go down in flames before long. And all that money given him goes down the drain.
Suggestion to GOP: Walker isn’t Romney. He’ll be looking for a job soon.
Boxturtle (Wheeee! More money down the drain!!!)
Ugly crackdown in Zuccotti Park ongoing.
Gov. Goodhair may have already given away everything that he can. Though I suppose there would be a lot of donor interest in chunks of the Texas road system if he manages to privatize ‘em and turn ‘em toll.
Boxturtle (After that, all he can do is kiss butt in public for his money)
That is whats so shocking a Texas Oil man could open the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, maybe even the coasts of Florida and California and all federal land to oil and natural gas drilling at below market price. Rather than some land open to drilling at below market price.
Texas is full of oil men oil is at a high price another war in the middle east probably Iran and if oil companies had more oil to pump than they do now before any war with Iran…well they would get real really rich.
The sound of one (invisible) hand clapping at the marketplace of no ideas.
They can’t afford taxes, but they can continue to run around throwing money at these bozos?
Just who here would have thought 6 months ago Perry would fail this bad at the debates? he does not know what government dept he wants to close. Cain the next guy up does not know China has had Nukes for decades. That leaves Newt the new Anti Mitt for the next 5 minutes.
After Newt that leaves Rick? Ron?? Huntsman???
Who will be the next Anti Mitt?
Not sorry to see Loser Perry LOSE out big-time. Another Grifter on the Make gets smacked down. Yawn: next!
Really pathetic “field” of candidates offered up by the Repugs, but alas, methinks the 1%ers want their guy Zero to “win.” From the 1%er perspective, what’s not to love with Barry-I-Never-Saw-A-WAR-I-Didn’t-Like??
The 1% see more ROI on money tossed at Grifter Whores like Goodhair, than on taxes, which, after all, ONLY benefit the “common” good. 1%ers ONLY want to benefit themselves, alone. Why pay taxes when a “common” serf might get some benefit from it??? Ick ick… how socialamalistico ‘n stuff. Ayn Rand don’t play that…
On Edit: the 1% can *afford* taxes; just don’t wanna pay ‘em; might inure to the benefit of some serf; not on.
The GOP hasn’t had any new ideas since Reagan and even those ideas were just lets stop spending money to help people, lets cut taxes on the rich, reduce business regulation and grow the military.
Except for grow the military those ideas trace back to President Hoover.
I know the GOP spends money on guys like Perry because they say what they want them to say on tv. I know that only people who say what the powers that be want to here get on tv.
But shouldn’t the powers that be find better speakers? How many Paulites who hate big government walked away from Perry as a second or even 5th choice after he could not name what government agencies he said he wanted to cut?
A Paulite and or Libertarian can’t NOT feel that Perry is a fake and won’t deliver on their issue.
Cain lost every foreign policy NeoCon when he said China might get Nukes.
I don’t see any way a NeCon could vote for Cain and brag about voting for him the next day to their friends.
Newt has so many scandals I could see him losing the divorced woman’s and worried about divorce woman’s vote 80-20, I don’t no how he will do with African American or Hispanic voters but I do know he might scare some of us to vote Obama.
I think after the racists lose big then guys like Perry will try and make the GOP more open to Dark people, Gays etc.
Or the GOP can be a small party in the South and West as we form a third party and cut the Dems.
Newt is just a fluffer for Romney.
I don’t think Newt really wants the job of POTUS, but Newt enjoys getting lotsa money for pretending to “run.” My prediction is that Romney will be the “choice” for Repug candidate. JMHO, of course.
Perry, Gingrich, Bachman….bunch of knownothing assholes. The pity is there’s millions of people out there who would vote for any of them. Romney’s the best of them and he’s an empty suit.
OT,
Chu takes the fall over Solyndra for O.
Agreed but Newt is the Anti Mitt for the next 5 minutes and it does seem like there is a strong anyone but Mitt group in the GOP Mitt can’t seem to get above 30% there is a very good chance that someone will knock Mitt off the top spot.
Who ever is the Anti Mitt when the GOP Primaries start in Iowa and New Hampshire will be the Anti Mitt and the question becomes will voters leave the smaller candidates and vote for Mitt or the Anti Mitt.
Smaller candidates tend to lose support when voters see their top choice can’t win so they vote their second, third choices.
I don’t know if Mitt or the Anti Mitt will get more votes.
The GOP can’t win elections without the racist vote. Indeed, one might speculate that without racist support the GOP might not have any unpaid campaign volunteers.
Boxturtle (Country Clubbers don’t work for free)
Argggh ! He’s smart and that was an obvious political deal for a government contract.
Agree with the second part of your sentence. Not so sure about the first part.
Well there is the problem they need the 30%ers who lean racists to win their own primaries because the GOP Primaries in the Southern States are controlled by Fundies.
Then they need to get another 21% to win the thing is the GOP’s stand on race, Gay’s, Women etc scare Moderate Voters away.
So do they keep the Fundies keep the South and West but lose nationally or do they treat the Fundies the way Obama treats the Left and try and win Nationally?
( It should be noted that by left I mean the majority of Americans are to the Left of Obama on the issues the majority of Americans consider to be the most important issues for the Nation.)
Science smart not Politics smart
My feeling is that Newt will bag a bunch of the primary votes/delegates and then turn his delegates/votes over to Mitt. I think it’ll be a back-room deal. Time will tell, of course.
Given Newt’s record I am not sure he will be the Anti Mitt when the primaries start voting. I expect that Newt, Cain etc will all try and trade delegates for cushy WH jobs or the VP slot but just how high up is the Anti Mitt hate?
Many GOPers seem to want anyone but Mitt how high up does that hate go is there any GOPer running for President who would based on hate not trade delegates to MItt assuming he was the front runner.
We need a better picture of the why and who of Anti Mitt hate we got good theories but we need more internal GOP knowledge to make predictions.
With the GOP split four ways, the law of diminishing returns is in full force. It costs more and more to move a single percentage point, and they are throwing all the $ they can to budge the numbers.
Obama, he lay low…and counts the money he isn’t spending on a primary run. It’s hard to decide which of these featherweights would make the best mop for the floor when the GOP candidate, assuming they have one, makes it to a presidential debate.
The legend that Mr. Obama can’t think without a teleprompter will have to be re-engineered.
My choice is Gingrich. Mr. Obama should be able to tease him into a tantrum in prime time.
I was at my notary’s office yesterday to sign my last will and testament. In the waiting office was the Time issue with Perry on the cover. I asked if I could have it. Looks like a collector’s item along with Palinalia.
At the very least, you can hang it on a tree and take up archery.
heh… Perry is hitting his 16th minute, it would seem. I was just thinking about that stupid Time cover photo… the wonder that was GoodHair, and Perry’s alleged “good” hair is about his only salient feature it would seem… even for the TeaGOPers…
