Good morning, everyone! (Now off to follow the linkys.)

Trying to figure out from the last thread how Bloomberg suffered a “defeat” yesterday. Didn’t the judge rule in favor of the Zucotti Park clear-out? I was AFK much of the day, so I may have missed something.

From the second link:

The Biden appearance, billed as a campaign event, was clearly aimed at harnessing the energy ignited by the pro-union victory and building momentum for Obama in Ohio heading into 2012.

What a farce.

Congressional deal derails funding for high-speed rail

“We did well on some things and not so well on other things,” U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said Tuesday

from the guardian

Shortly before 8pm, protesters at Zuccotti Park held a general assembly during which rumours of a curfew were dismissed. “The park remains open 24 hours a day,” organisers relayed to the crowd, using a human microphone. The news was greeted by cheers.

But boos followed when it was explained that a judge had ruled that the police control who can come into the park at all times. “

Well, then, we’ll see what we can carry in our pockets. I have a hammock that will fit in my pocket along with a lighter and a wallet.

I am reminded of a story told be by a biker. The LAPD/ CHIPS (I forget which) had decided that flying motorcycle gang colors was illegal. They pulled him over for flying rags and made him take his off. His were on a sleveless denim jacket, like most. He took off the jacket and the cop observed that he had the gang colors on the back of his shirt. So the shirt was ordered off, to reveal that it was also on his undershirt. The cop, ANGRY now, orders the tshirt off. To reveal the brand new full back brightly colored gang logo tattoo.

Cop drives away without another word.

Boxturtle (Always enjoyed that story. He’s got the tattoo on his back to back it up)

P.S. Edited for multiple typos. Please forgive the dyslexic.

No.

I’ve talked to a lot of USG data drones during my career & I have the highest respect for them and their professionalism. They loved answering my Qs bc I tried hard to get enough info to make sure the data were used in the right way.

The big problem is that USG data is underfunded. So capturing new developments could be a problem.

But again, my experience is dated. I don’t know what’s happened in the last decade. Shit slides downhill, and fear of job loss is a powerful motivator.

That’s a dry hole for the way to think about genuine problems & what to do about them. The way I see that used in comments is to dismiss any kind of evidence that might be in contrast to commenter’s opinion, and never as a way of suggesting how to move forward.

It would be a reason for making sure that analysts who use the data are objective & careful.

At some point, the occupation aspect became counterproductive for the movement. The one exeption to this might have been OWS. It seemed that In many respects, with apologies to McLuhan, the venue was the message. Or, at a minimum, served as an essential clarifier.

Unfortunately, my reading of the speech plus case law, Cox v Louisiana and its progeny, suggests this restriction of speech and assembly is probably legal.

One of the gals had told me she needed new socks and I had bought some for her and when she came up to the food counter, I gave them to her. We do all have different situations and we are all at different stations in our lives. This is something that I am able to do.
Three hours a day, three days a week (currently).
I also keep supples in my van, like bottled water, pre-wrapped cheese and crackers, extra towels, stuff like that, which I give out to the homeless who hang out in the parking lots of the stores in town. Anyone can do that, just as a suggestion.
Oh, and also dog and cat food in baggies. Many of the homeless have animals who I’m sure are a great comfort to them.

Still waiting for him to show up in Madison. (not)

At this point I expect he would probably congratulate Walker on getting the state back into such “great,” shape.

He’ll waltz in claiming credit for a successful recall that he had, “certainly,” been in favor of all along, while saying that he was just too busy sending US troops to Australia to save us from a greater threat.

Demi,

I really appreciate your positive reports and actions for the homeless.

The best compliment that I can think of is that you provide the empathy much as Chrisy Hardin Smith did in founding this blog with Jane.

Thanks!

(((CHS))) and (((demi)))

JClausen,
I really appreciate your kind words. I grew up in a home where I heard the stories of how, during the depression, people helped each other out. When I started hanging out at the Lake, Jane’s commitment to information and action and Christy’s Big Heart inspired me and moved me to action.
Nonquixote is the one who suggested, when I was so glum about not being able to find a paying job, I find a place to volunteer.
Thank you, J.
PS (on edit) – my faith also encourages me very much. *g* And, I know you know what I mean.

I also thank you for your kind words to the people here at the Lake. Yours is a much needed voice here. Just my 2 cents.
