Statement from blooomberg

No right is absolute and with every right comes responsibilities. The First Amendment gives every New Yorker the right to speak out – but it does not give anyone the right to sleep in a park or otherwise take it over to the exclusion of others – nor does it permit anyone in our society to live outside the law. There is no ambiguity in the law here – the First Amendment protects speech – it does not protect the use of tents and sleeping bags to take over a public space.

Mornin’, BT, pups

“Such a large cut, applied in this indiscriminate manner, would render most of our ship and construction projects unexecutable — you cannot buy three quarters of a ship or a building — and seriously damage other modernization efforts,” Panetta wrote to the senators.

How many high tech ships does it take to engage a motorboat with a couple guys with guns? Here’s a newsflash for ya Panetta, the Cold War was over 20 years ago. Another Clintonista asshole.

Good morning BT and firepups,
A sign that I saw and came to love, “The message cannot be driven out”.
The powers see the Occupy movement spreading like a prairie grassfire and they are so fearful of the message so they have to destroy it while they can. It will not happen, not this time, and not this place!

Ya had yer say. Now shut up and go away!!!

What was it Dylan said, mswinkle?

” …to live outside the law, you must be honest …”

Fortunately ONLY the Zucotti Park folks live “outside” the law … although a select few, about 1% and their “retainers”, get to live “above … and beyond” the law.

Oh, and good morning, everyone …

I wish I knew. The PTB are running scared and putting pressure on City Hall, and it’s working. I just hope it’s like whack-a-mole and the occupiers just keep popping up again and changing locations and tactics. But it’s getting pretty cold in the Midwest and the East and much more difficult for protestors to persist.

Dear Mayor Bloomberg, maybe you should read the First Amendment as it includes much more than free speech, like freedom of assembly to petition the government for grievances. I say we just call him Mayor Mubarak.

At least now the world knows the US is but a fake democracy, with fake freedom. It’s all plastic, made beautiful for you to look at and shiny, as long as you never try to use it.

The authoritarians are too late. The Occupy Movement has awakened a sleeping giant. They can be arrested, harassed and scattered but the message lives on. The mighty US military can’t kill the anti-US message coming from the Arab world nor can our jackbooted white shirts kill the message coming from Zuccotti Park.

Let us give Newtie credit. Michele Bachman does properly explain ObamaCare. The Obama “Health Insurance” reform is due to Newt Gingrich. Even, Mittens gives Newtie credit for the minor Obama Health Care changes. And the very right wing Heritage Foundation supported this Republican idea. The heritage Foundation is Dee Cee “Think Tank” for the one percent, that give President Obama ideas for Health Care and Empire building.

BACHMANN: Our candidate can’t be compromised. We have candidates that are compromised on the individual health care mandate, which is Obamacare. It was Newt Gingrich’s idea, and Mitt Romney implemented it…

Romney himself pointed this out in a debate, saying, “Actually Newt, we got the idea of the individual mandate from you…and the Heritage Foundation.”

The President gets a lot of his ideas from Republicans and the One Percent. His economic policies are from Billionaires, Ronald Reagan and Fox’s Billo The Clown OReilly.

I always thought management were morons. The closer I got to higher management, the more it reinforced my opinion.

As U.S. econ forecaster, I was not near any of the areas where the crooked stuff was going on, so I was not a first hand witness. Plus, I’ve been gone for nearly 12 years, the first 8 of which my attention was diverted to other matters, esp after 9/11.

After the housing bubble burst I redirected my attention and was shocked at how much worse it had gotten in the years since I left.

As for labor vs. corps, in my job as a forecaster, I also always recognized the asymmetry in power, and tried to do some new research in that area, which was short-stopped by my departure.

I think this will force some attempts at widening strategies from the movement, itself. I am envisioning, occupy school boards, occupy town, city and county board meetings and occupy state capitol buildings such as WI last winter. a commenter on another blog. captures the farce quite well

Bloomberg is asked about this: he says the action was taken to “protect the members of the press. We have to provide protection and we have done exactly that.”

Is Bloomberg seriously suggesting here that the journalists need to be protected? From who? From the protesters? The reference to people getting killed too. Does he think the Occupiers are killers? Is he suggesting that the media helicopter (if the report is true) was grounded because it could be shot down? Have the protesters become ‘terrorists’?
