The sexual harassment stuff is dropping Cain’s poll numbers, while the fact that he is an idiot with little grasp of the issues he’d need to govern intelligently doesn’t matter, apparently.

I agree with Rachel Maddow: Cain is performance art, not a real candidate.

Cain is toast and doesn’t know it. 12K surround the White House and Obama will pretend not to know it.

Obama just wants to be able to delay the decision until its off the radar and won’t hurt his election significantly. But he has to balance that against the campaign contributions that the MOTU’s are holding until he approves. The poor fellow is between a rock and a hard place!

That kinda bothers me. His economic plan is pure voodoo, even conservative economics have debunked it. He has no revelent experience an was under the impression that China did not yet have nukes.

So we take him out on a 10 year old harassment claim, settled out of court long ago to the satisifaction of all parties.

It is, AppleCanyon2, very delicious. I made Coq au Vin for dinner last night, recipe from Julia Child’s cookbook. The complete recipe used a whole stick of butter — I could feel my arteries slamming shut as I ate!

Here’s another one for you:

Warning: it makes a HUGE amount so consider cutting the recipe in half.

I suppose if he’s out, we should just be thankful.

Some of us are old enough to remember the 1988 primary season, when the media belittled the Democratic aspirants as the “Seven Dwarfs.” Those dwarfs, you may recall, were Bruce Babbitt, Joe Biden, Michael Dukakis, Dick Gephart, Al Gore, Jesse Jackson, and Senator Paul Simon of Illinois. Compare those so-called lightweights to Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, and Rick Perry. We’ve come a long way, baby — a long way towards galloping dwarfism! One of those clowns could become President!

My daughter did it for a year, a couple of years ago, and it is indeed a very tough thing to do well. Fortunately she is now an “instructional assistant” teaching technology to the entire elementary school (a class at a time, of course, not en masse). She loves it and gets to know all 400+ kids in the school.

I occasionally go to DKos to see how close it is to a meltdown over OWS. The answer, getting very close. All it will take is one clear rift with Obama and OWS will be vilified by the DKos hyper-partisans and identity politics liberals. They may keep it together through the holidays but after that DKos splits in half. Expect many newcomers here at FDL.

Now that the Rs have made it clear to everyone that they will oppose all increases in tax revenue — even those that emanate from closing loopholes — it is obvious to millions who voted for O in 2008 that all he has to do to win re-election is promise to veto any cuts in SS and Medicare. He just has to admit that the “Grand Bargain” is dead.

And it will become more and more obvious to many more millions that he just won’t do it.

Overall, DKos has been strongly supportive of OWS so far but that enthusiasm is waning. DKos is militantly Democratic and OWS is not so the tension is palpable. Here is DKos staffer addressing the tension:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/11/06/1033574/-How-Democrats-should-handle-Occupy-Wall-Street?via=blog_1

And here is another DKos staffer trying to co-opt OWS and return to the identity politics that is anathema to the 99% movement:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/11/06/1033486/-Occupy-the-Hood:-Communities-of-color-and-the-Occupy-movement?via=blog_1

If you’re really interested dig down into the comments for each post and you’ll see the tension bubbling to the surface. At some point soon, many partisan Dems will decide that OWS is detrimental to Obama and the Democratic Party. Then the knives will come out.

I read recently that there is a tendency for animals that move to places where there is no real competition tend toward dwarfism. Apparently this is what happened to elephants and hippopotami on Cyprus. They evolved into midgets because they didn’t have to stay big to survive. Same thing seems to be happening among the Republicans. The Cypriot became extinct when the weather changed. Wonder if that will happen to them.

I’ve made that recipe for 35 years. You don’t really need all that butter. You need oil and a bit of butter at first to make sure the temperature is right for browning. After that just a little. The fat in the chicken itself is enough to provide what you need for basting. Where the butter comes in is when you finish the sauce with a piece of ice cold butter swirled in to thicken it. You can go easy there. Most restaurants today go light on the butter. There’s already enough flavour in the sauce, and tastes have lightened up a lot since the 70s.

The butter was bit-by-bit, a tablespoon or two (or three) at a time, usually coupled with oil. And the finish on the sauce was a paste of butter and flour. And I made the accompanying mushrooms and onions, both of which called for more butter. Since I had never made the dish, I wasn’t willing to experiment, but I do see how it could be altered some.

It was really good, but the color is a bit offputting.

EDIT to add: the butter was a total, which included the butter used in the mushrooms and the onions in addition to the chicken itself.
