Late Night FDL: Ruth Marcus, Lickspittle Courtier to the Corrupt

By: Phoenix Woman Wednesday November 30, 2011 8:00 pm

They say you can judge a person by his or her enemies, and if that is the criterion to use, then Emma Sullivan belongs on the United States Supreme Court. Not only did she get the Great and Powerful Brownback and his internet-scouring minions ticked off enough to try and squish her via her own high school principal (and the latter personage is a true profile in spinelessness for letting Brownback’s machine lean on him in that way), and not only has she likely ticked them off even more by exposing their jackassery to the world with such thoroughness that they were forced to backpedal big-time, but she’s managed to cause Ruth Marcus to bestir from a befogged slumber long enough to lob a truly stupid column Emma’s way.

Occupy LA: Reports of LAPD Violence

By: Lisa Derrick Wednesday November 30, 2011 7:18 pm

This media pool drew mainstream media into the inner circle, where they were treated to a display of courteous policing and nonviolence by the police. Even I was impressed by the police. The operation was smooth and efficient and tactical.

“Then the pool media was divided from the regular media, and kept in the inner circle. They were not present to witness the brutality and violence enacted by LAPD officers who were kettling and running after protestors in order to beat them outside the park and mainstream media attention. LAPD smoothly kept MSM from witnessing this, and tried to control other media by constant kettling and dividing of the crowd.”

Washington and Rhode Island Governors Ask Feds to Reschedule Marijuana

By: Jon Walker Wednesday November 30, 2011 6:48 pm

In a big move today for medical marijuana, Washington state Governor Christine Gregoire (D) and Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee (I) requested that the federal government re-schedule (reclassify) marijuana. The policy change would allow marijuana to be legally prescribed as a medicine under federal law.

Live Blog for #Occupy Movement: Police Unleash Pepper Spray on Occupy ALEC Protest

By: Kevin Gosztola Wednesday November 30, 2011 5:54 pm

Phoenix police alleged protesters assaulted them with nail-filled sticks. That is basically police speak for when we were doing “crowd control” we were touched by the sticks holding up protesters’ signs. The Fire Department was on the scene to wash out the eyes of those pepper sprayed.

Corruption or Incompetence; the Economic Effects Seem the Same

By: dakine01 Wednesday November 30, 2011 5:12 pm

One of the on-going arguments across the blogosphere and even the entire world is whether the economic problems of the last ten years are more related to incompetence or basic corruption. I must say, just the last week has offered plenty of evidence for both views. For example, we had this article from Bloomberg yesterday (Tuesday, November 29) about how then Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson met with his hedge fund buddies and gave them the first class insider information on his plans to place Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into “conservatorship.”

Boeing/NLRB Dispute Likely Ends With Machinist Union Settlement

By: David Dayen Wednesday November 30, 2011 4:30 pm

The Machinists union reached tentative agreement on a new four-year contract with Boeing, in a move that probably ends the dispute over moving a factory from Washington State to South Carolina, which prompted action from the NLRB against what they saw as an illegal labor violation.

Kentucky Church Bans Inter-Racial Couples “In the Name of the Greater Unity”

By: Pam Spaulding Wednesday November 30, 2011 3:40 pm

At Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church in Pike County, Kentucky, an inter-racial couple, Stella Harville, who is white and who was baptized there and a member of the church as a child, brought her fiancé, Ticha Chikuni, a native of Zimbabwe, to sing at a service. Then they were banned.

Bradley Manning Gets His Day in Court

By: Brian Sonenstein Wednesday November 30, 2011 2:50 pm

Bradley Manning has sat in jail for over 18 months without any word of an eventual trial, and has endured truly inhumane treatment at the hands of our government. Luckily, he will soon have his day in court.

The Secret of Gingrich’s Success: Hating Liberals

By: David Dayen Wednesday November 30, 2011 2:15 pm

Whether Herman Cain is actually reassessing his campaign or not, he’s done on the Presidential stage. And the data show that the biggest beneficiary of this is Newt liberal-hater Gingrich.
