Early Morning Swim: Michael Moore on the 1% and the Republican Presidential Candidates [VID]

By: Blue Texan Friday October 28, 2011 4:41 am

When the GOP’s money machine couldn’t get Jeb!, Mitch Daniels or Chris Christie — they had to settle for Willard. But yeah, hard to see why a second Obama term really scares them.

Priorities…

Remember jobless persons, Louisville playing Kansas State, it’s what makes Mitch McConnell’s unique vision of America great.

House Passes the “Even Obama Supported” Non-Jobs Jobs Act

By: David Dayen Thursday October 27, 2011 7:07 pm

How facilitating tax cheating counts as a jobs measure is beyond me, but whatever the case, the bill and its offset go to the Senate. A 3% withholding bill got 57 votes in the Senate last week, with a different offset that just reduces expenditures across the board. That was before the Administration came out in favor of the bills, however. So surely, something incorporating 3% withholding is likely to pass Congress.

Oakland PD’s Violent Assault on the Constitution and Occupy Inflicts Severe Brain Injuries on Marine Iraq War Veteran

By: Kirk James Murphy, M.D. Thursday October 27, 2011 6:14 pm

Tuesday night Scott Olsen stood on a street in Oakland as an American citizen, exercising his right as specified in the First Amendment to the Constitution that he pledged his life to uphold as a US Marine. And Tuesday night, as he lawfully exercised the Constitutional right he risked his life to defend in Marine uniform, someone wearing the uniform of the Oakland PD, or the “law” enforcement agencies Oakland summoned up to squash lawful protest, fired the round that felled Scott Olsen.

Mississippi Womb Controllers: Kiss Your Birth Control Goodbye as ‘Personhood’ Amendment Vote Looms

By: Pam Spaulding Thursday October 27, 2011 5:25 pm

If this ballot initiative in Mississippi passes, it will make a woman a criminal in the eyes of the law if she exercises her right to control whether she becomes pregnant — not just whether she will have access to abortion services.

A 51st State for Armed Robotic Drones

By: David Swanson Thursday October 27, 2011 4:36 pm

Weaponized UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), also known as drones, have their own caucus in Congress, and the Pentagon’s plan is to give them their own state as well.

Under this plan, 7 million acres (or 11,000 square miles) of land in the southeast corner of Colorado, and 60 million acres of air space (or 94,000 square miles) over Colorado and New Mexico would be given over to special forces testing and training in the use of remote-controlled flying murder machines. The full state of Colorado is itself 104,000 square miles. Rhode Island is 1,000 square miles. Virginia, where I live, is 43,000 square miles.

The U.S. military (including Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines) is proceeding with this plan in violation of the public will, new state legislation on private property rights, an exceptionally strong federal court order, and a funding ban passed by the United States Congress, and in the absence of any approved Environmental Impact Statement.

Concentrated Corporate Control Is Evidence Of Oligarchy

By: masaccio Thursday October 27, 2011 3:45 pm

I’ve read the paper, The Network of Global Corporate Control, and I think it is convincing evidence of the unnatural accumulation of corporate power and control in the hands of a few, the very definition of Oligarchy. The authors conclude that 737 holders accumulate 80% of the control over the value of all Transnational Corporations (TNCs), and 147 have 40% of the control over those TNCs.

#Occupy LA Can’t Feed People

By: Ryan Cook Thursday October 27, 2011 2:50 pm

Occupy DC may not have it all together on their winterization plan, but at least they have warm food.

Lisa Derrick contacted me late last night after her visit to Occupy Los Angeles. She was deeply upset to see that the occupiers in LA did not have enough food to go around. She told me that people there were consuming less than 500 calories a day, which is much lower than any person, of any size should receive. Not only are they consuming a low number of calories, but the calories that they are consuming are definitely not healthy ones.
