Things will start to move fast next week as the Pennsylvania Senate votes on its Marcellus bill.

Oakland: This Is What a Police State Looks Like |
| By: Janet Rhodes Saturday October 29, 2011 4:34 pm |
I’ve gotta hand it to you, Mayor Quan, you wasted no time. As soon as you realized, to your horror, that Oakland’s city hall was located in downtown Oakland (public urination, incidents of violence, people without homes sleeping out of doors), you launched right into redecorating. By the way, love what you’ve done with the Darth Vader look.
The Myth of Military Contracting |

The war industry stood back with glee when it released a shoddy study that produced the sought-after deceptive headlines about defense spending, the magic sauce of job creation. There was no balance to these reports, and the War Industry should know, because they funded it!
The United States was founded on the principle that no individual is above the law. We are, as John Adams said, “a nation of laws, not men.” But that principle is under assault, as Glenn Greenwald explains in his powerful new book, With Liberty and Justice for Some: How the Law is Used to Destroy Equality and Protect the Powerful.

Witch Hunt Against Polar Bear Scientists Takes New Twist – 2nd Scientist Asked to Take Lie Detector Test |
| By: EdwardTeller Saturday October 29, 2011 12:25 pm |
On Wednesday, Dr. Jeffrey Gleason, currently an avian ecologist for the the Bureau of Ocean Energy, Management, Regulation and Enforcement, was questioned by agents from the the Obama Interior Department Office of Inspector General about aspects of his involvement with Dr. Charles Monnett’s 2006 peer-reviewed scientific paper that linked Polar bear mortality while swimming in the Arctic to climate change. Dr. Monnett has been under investigation since late 2010. Scrutiny of Dr. Gleason’s actions related to the Polar bear findings dates back to his first interview, held on January 26th. His questioning on Wednesday resulted in a request by the investigators for him to undergo a lie detector test regarding a misplaced routing slip:
Occupy San Diego: Still Going Despite Friday’s Raid, Arrests |
| By: Lisa Derrick Saturday October 29, 2011 11:20 am |
Despite dozens of arrests early Friday morning, Occupy San Diego has regrouped and spent Friday night in two groups: One, about 800 strong, marched through downtown to Civic Center Plaza then joined the smaller bunch at Civic Center Plaza. Police were watchful, but there were no arrests. Occupiers were not allowed to sleep in sleeping bags, or technically to sleep at all.
What was meant to be a sleepover/pajama party with trade unionists and nurses turned into an all night rally.
#Occupy Nashville: Let Those Occupiers Go! |

Occupiers in Nashville, Tennessee scored a major victory again last night when Judicial Chancellor (magistrate) Thomas Edward Nelson ordered the immediate release of all 26 occupiers of Legislative Plaza, who were arrested in a second night of arrests and incarcerations by Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) officers under the orders of Governor Haslam and Tennessee General Services. Nelson further instructed the state troopers in his courtroom that they were to make no more arrests nor issue any more warrants, ruling Tennessee General Services had no legal authority to order a curfew of Nashville’s Legislative Plaza.
Check Stubs and Moral Seriousness |
| By: Peterr Saturday October 29, 2011 9:15 am |
The late poet and Lutheran seminary professor Gerhard Frost once wrote “My check stubs are enough” to give you his autobiography. The former Chancellor of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, Giles Fraser, wrote similar words in June 2010: the best way to assess what someone believes is to look through their bank statement. Forget fancy words and sermons, money is the way we mean it – or we don’t. Money is the sacrament of moral seriousness.”
Given the reactions of the MOTUs and Powers That Be to the Occupy Movement, I’d say they don’t enjoy having their morals examined.
If It Weren’t for Double Standards, We’d Have No Standards At All |

Here is A Journamalism Guide To Covering Occupy Wall Street that is so simple that even Andrew Brietbart’s “citizen journalists” could understand it provided, of course, it was made available in pop-up book format or as part of an exercise involving a “bad-touch” doll (Jim Hoft only).
