So much for the theory that it’s just a bunch of Firebaggers liberals that are dissatisfied with the Affordable [sic] Care Act.

Evidence of Economic Oligarchy |

The weaknesses in a recent paper on concentration of corporate control do not detract from its central point. A tiny number of economic actors have power to influence a vast amount of wealth.
It’s Always Been a Class War |
| By: Glenn W. Smith Sunday October 30, 2011 9:30 am |
Whenever conservatives get caught with their hands in the till they shout, “Class Warfare!” at those of us who would like to stop their looting. Thinking this a negative, they forget, I guess, that the American democratic experiment was and is just that: a class war.
It has always been about equality vs. aristocracy. It was in the beginning, is now, and will always be.
Washington Post Discards All Journalistic Standards in Attack on Social Security |
| By: Dean Baker Sunday October 30, 2011 8:52 am |
News outlets generally like to claim a separation between their editorial pages and their news pages. The Washington Post has long ignored this distinction in pursuing its agenda for cutting Social Security, however it took a big step further in tearing down this barrier with a lead front page story that would have been excluded from most opinion pages because of all the inaccuracies it contained.

Overwhelming Police Force at OccupyDenver |
| By: Eclair Sunday October 30, 2011 7:00 am |
We ran into Congressman Ed Permutter (Colorado’s 7th District) on the 16th Street Mall in Denver. Visibly shaken, he began to tell us of the “overwhelming force” used by the Denver Police Department in an apparent attempt to dismantle a free food table on the sidewalk at the OccupyDenver site.

I have a little Halloween fun for you in the video, Be Ware.
Bev scheduled a macabre treat for Halloween Eve’s Book Salon, The Empire of Death: A Cultural History of Ossuaries and Charnel Houses, a beautifully illustrated book. Virtually Speaking tonight, at 9pm, has our own David Dayen, plus Avedon Carol. And FDL Movie Night Monday features Carl Colby and his film about his spy father, The Man Nobody Knew: In Search Of My Father CIA Spymaster William Colby. A must see, imho.
Here are the listings, a whole lot of horse racing going on, sure seems like so much so early but perhaps I was more interested in 2007-2008 than I am this time around. And a little bit on Libya and Iraq. Glenn Greenwald will be on Up with Chris Hayes, that will be good. So pour some more coffee or hot chocolate and tune in.

Late Night FDL: MN GOP Chair Tony Sutton, Still Sucking With Other People’s Money |
| By: Phoenix Woman Saturday October 29, 2011 8:00 pm |
As regular readers of both FDL and Mercury Rising know, I’ve been following the ups and downs of Minnesota Republican Party chair Tony Sutton , and his money-handling difficulties, for some time now. And guess what? He’s in the news again — and as always, it’s about money, or the difficulties pertaining thereto. Bluestem Prairie’s Sally Jo Sorensen has the deets concerning possible Republican dissatisfaction with Sutton’s ham-fisted leadership and subpar money-handling.
Why Republican Voters Can’t Make Up Their Mind |
| By: Cenk Uygur Saturday October 29, 2011 6:51 pm |
It seems like every couple of weeks we have a new leader in the Republican field. Michele Bachmann has been there, so has Mitt Romney and Rick Perry, and now Herman Cain sits atop the field. Why can’t Republican voters make up their minds?
