If the Secessionist is too scared to stand up to Mitt Romney, how’s he going stand up to China?
After a series of poor debate performances in the early months of his presidential campaign, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is backing off the upcoming GOP debate schedule, committing to just one of the next three events between now and Nov. 15.
Perry has struggled in the five debates he has attended since he joined the race in mid-August. At one, he fumbled an attempt to cast rival Mitt Romney as a flip-flopper. At another, bickering between Romney and Perry drew criticism that the candidates were acting juvenile.
And I just love this.
Perry hinted at his frustration with the debates earlier this week when he told Fox News that participating in them was a “mistake.”
“These debates are set up for nothing more than to tear down the candidates,” Perry said. “…All they’re interested in is stirring it up between the candidates.”
Uh, isn’t that exactly the whole point of debates? To get candidates to argue about stuff?
What a sensitive, delicate flower. “Alpha Male” my ass.

I’ve got a neutered Devon Rex who has more balls than any of them.

Nice to hear your voice last night. Do you sound like your dad?
I wonder what Governor Dipshit would say if he got an actual real question, with a (gulp) follow-up or two?
Hilarious.
Poor Baby! He still thinks he’s Number One and can’t believe how mean those other folks are. He would probably start crying if he had to deal with China.
Oh, shit, one cryin’ Regressive nitwit is enough, thank you.
Everyone says I sound exactly like my dad.
It was nice to hear your voice, too :) You sound exactly like I knew you would. It’s a good thing.
Um, some one might want to tell him Sarah Palin already locked up the quitter vote.
Funny how that works. My brother sounds more like my dad than I do, though. He’s always stayed in the south so his accent hasn’t changed much.
Perry could ask to be placed on one end of the lineup, so he wouldn’t be too close to Romney. OTOH wouldn’t it be more entertaining to see some hand-to-hand combat? The right-wing riff-raff in the audience would eat it up: “hit below the belt, kill him!” — perfect for that crowd.
For you unlucky NON-Texans, Perry REFUSED to debate his democratic opponent in the last gubernatorial election AT ALL. Some said it was because he could spell “gubernatorial”. Others claimed he could not pronounce it. In case you didn’t notice, he says “noo-ku-ler”, like his predecessor.
He DID, for the record, debate his republican opponents inthe primaries but they were a dim-witted PTA president from South Texas and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison who, if you haven’t seen her speak, makes that crazy Arizona governor look like William F Buckley.
I feel his pain. If he can’t shoot them (coyotes) or execute them (everyone else), what’s he supposed to do? TALK to them? Are you nuts?
Does he get to take that $15 Million war chest home too?
Like Newt does every election cycle?
If he regrets having debated fellow Repubs so far, why doesn’t he just drop out? Does he think debating Obama would be a cakewalk?
Yes, he is a nitwit.
I’m sure Perry would have a hard time trying to deal with Obama’s constant pre-compromising and attempting to reach bipartisan answers to questions.
He’ll “spend” it with/through his cousin’s “PR” firm for TV spots and campaign literature that “really” never gets produced.
Hint, hint, wink, wink.
We’ve already seen him on the “national stage” and the result has been evident, 32% support 6 weeks ago, 9% now.
If you hadn’t noticed, they place the candidates based on their polling numbers. Perry IS moving to the side of the stage a little bit more ever week. IF jhe should choose to be in the next debate, I think he’ll be between Newt and Santorum.
When can we stop seeing stories about candidates who are polling 4 points below not sure?
The problem is calling them Debates in the first place.
Clown Show Circle Jerks is more like it.
Besides who cares ?
My friends in England and France and Denmark and Belgium are stunned at the level of ignorance. The swing between amazement and laughter and abject fear this must inspire in citizens of the many countries that are rightfully scared to smithereens of the rabid dog that the U.S. has obviously become is wild. But mostly they are just so embarrassed for me.
Think how this looks to the rest of the world. A world where people are actually Educated. Who have Philosophy and Culture. Sophisticated people.
I am embarrassed.
He did the same thing in Texas. He would just avoid debates and public appearances. Thats been his MO for years. Stirs up controversy or runs his mouth then vanishes.
Wouldn’t the santorum be between Perry and Newt? Couldn’t help myself.
I suppose February 14, Valentine’s Day, will be a turniong point for that faction. Usually is.
Could happen even earlier. Maybe mid-January.
I don’t think so. Santorum might be in the parking lot next time around.
I watched some of the last debate in the garage on my little 6 inch TV whilst I was cleaning up my classic Vette for the next car show. Santorum wasn’t even “in the picture”.
I go between abject embarressment to total depression that THIS is what it’s come to… whether they’re listed as so-called “R” or putative “D,” it’s pathetic that THIS is what our nation coughs up to run as the so-called “Leader of the Free World.”
How anyone, no matter how they vote, can witness this pathetic excuse called a “primary race” and not feel disgusted beyond all belief is beyond my comprehension. If anyone actually believes that *ANY* of these LOSERS (and here I also include Obama) is actually “in charge” and “running” anything, then I gotta bridge to sell ya…
Clear as day that the PTB run the show and these clowns (again: include Obama) are just the hired hand to play the “role” of POTUS. Guess Reagan set that low bar, and we haven’t raised it one millimeter higher since then, frankly (and here I include Clinton)…
PTOUI!
Thus ends Rick Perry’s failed campaign.
Mitt Romney for president?
I meant santorum as in the wikipedia definition.
LOL. We all knew what you meant. Have a little respect, these are all manly Republicans. Even Bachman. ;-)
BT, that Matt Taibbi RS article on Perry you linked to in yesterday’s Early Morning Swim is must reading.
I highly recommend it to all who might not have seen it yet. Thank you!!!!

Many thanks. That rolling stone article is a MUST READ my fellow pups.
I’m dismayed that so many of my right-wing acquaintances think they can actually win with either Perry or Cain. They insist it will be a landslide for their candidate and a humiliation for the Democrats.
With the Republican Congress at single-digit approval ratings, how delusional must these people be to think they could honestly win a raffle, let alone the White House?
And the day we change these events from ‘debates’ to ‘forums’, I will be a happy camper. I’ll still ignore them, regardless of party affiliation, but these are no more debates than I am the King of Siam.

Well, remember. Right-wing bloggers and pundits were predicting a McCain-Palin win in November ’08, when it was clear to the rest of the planet that Obama would win.
Not only are the Rethugs heading for a big loss in the Presidential race but with rhe 9% approval rating of Congress, they are heading for the loss of their House majority. This election will be most like 1948,the reversal of the 1946 GOP takeover of Congress with an incumbent President, none too popular himself, running against a more unpopular Rethug Congess.Romney is Dewey, basically a moderate guy who grew up in Michigan and became the Governor of a Northeastern state.Obama is Truman who will likewise run against an extremist right wing Congress rather than Dewey himself although Romney’s flip flopping will be a good target.
I suppose all this will be true, if and only if a reasonable third party candidate doesn’t enter the arena between now and a year from now. Before we all think it can’t happen, who knew about Obama a year before the election?
Of course, if some nitwit decides to be a tea party candidate in a third party ballot position (and I wouldn’t put it past any of the current crop of GOP’ers), it should be a pretty interesting election.
I hadn’t thought of that. A 3rd party TEA Partier????????
Hmmmmmm. That WOULD be like “Survivor” at a nudist colony. Hard not to watch even IF it was on opposite “Dancing with the Stars”.
Huh? Which one, Obama or Perry (or both)?
At least there is one pitiful Republican Ass Clown that isn’t going to make it, y’know? Let’s celebrate this small victory.
Of course, the fact that he used to be Al Gore’s campaign manager doesn’t really say good things about the Dems, either, but hey. . . hold your nose and vote time is coming round again.
I think about Kennedy and the speaches he made and then I take a look at this crew and all I can figure is that our gov. was taken over by aliens a long time ago.
If he only were Truman. Truman was no FDR but I’d take him in a minute.
I’m afraid I’d predict the opposite, but hope you’re correct.
I see Obama with a Carteresque albatross. He can’t control enough to swing it around by himself. He needs the GOP to blow it singlehandedly, which is possible. Reagan didn’t, maybe Romney will, or more likely his running mate.
I’m wondering about your House forecast — specific races that add up to the tipping point. Unpopularity of Congress doesn’t seem to me a good predictor of how individuals vote in their own districts. Who are individual GOP targets, how unpopular are they in their own districts, and who will take each necessary seat away?
I think it’s more likely the GOP will win the Senate than lose the House. The liklihood of a GOP trifecta, however repugnant, seems to me more likely than a Dem trifecta.
So. . . I feel the first priority is to not lose the Senate to the GOP, a close second is keep Obama in the WH, then get the House. These priorities don’t compete with each other.
I’m worried about the remaining cast of blue dogs, who remain of little value beyond a vote for a speaker or a leader, or might even flip like a Jeffords but the wrong way.
And I always thought Texans were so tough…
Kennedy was one of them. Get out your People’s History of the United States.
