About Firedoglake
Hey, Suz…..hope all’s well at your paradise.
Aloha, Suz and LLN pups…!
hey dearie — we are doing well. token is gnawing on a hamhock bone and bailey cat is ignoring me. how’s oxnard tonight?
Hey, CT. How about that full moon. My dad commented on how much he enjoyed the glow of it.
Congrats on the zed, Dearie..! How’d ya manage to leave a blank comment downstairs, btw…? ;-)
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Wooooo Wooooooo HAPPY BIRFDAY!!!!!!!!
Ooh, did ya make some split pea soup, Suz…?
I got tired of trying to speak to the angries……I thought I’d say something else, but thought better of it and just put a period in. I don’t do much commenting during the day or early evening. Kinda surprised at how ‘pointy’ folks can be. Yikes!
hey bfl — how’s the city beautiful tonight? technically, its not my birfday for 2 more hours….us left coasters are time zone challenged :)
thanks dood
It was gorgeous last nite too, tis a shame I can’t really capture the beauty of it with my flipcam…! 8-(
pinto beans with hamhocks and bacon. started the pot yesterday and it was fantabulous today
Four weeks until Skyrim is released. What should I do with the last four weeks I’ll have free for the next year?
hey dave — stock up on supplies so ya can play non-stop until new years? how ya doing tonight?
Early Hippo Birdies to ya, Suz…! *g*
Pinto beans turned out delicious, I’m sure! It’s nice on the south central coast.
I had a deposition in Santa Barbara today….cute young defense attorney deposed my client. After the record was closed, she turned to me and said, “Did I miss anything? I felt like I missed something.” I assured her that she did just fine….hit all the high points. I’m ever the teacher! And it’s pleasant when the opposing attorney in a work comp case isn’t hostile and obnoxious.
thanks tut
i’m all ticked — i found a great birthday cartoon to use tomorrow nite and its forking embedding disabled :(
That sounds delish…! What else did ya toss in it…?
tis nice when both work for the common goal of justice instead of being so adversarial :)
garlic and i served it spooned over a bowl of sticky rice
…embedding disabled :(
I so feel ya on that one…! I’m always crossing my fingers and toes when I go to embed ‘em…!
Isn’t that the truth! Most of my work was with auto accident clients, and it was always such a battle. I wanted to scream: Just Do The Right Thing!
I’m a little depressed. I’m starting to think I might have to get a job. I’ll have been retired for 17 years this March. They aren’t looking at resumes of people who have been unemployed for six months. There aren’t any jobs here, anyway. If I move, I’ll have to spend whatever I can make on housing in order to get to the job. In other words, a complete waste of time.
And I may live another 40 years.
Do you soak the beans first before adding the meat and garlic to the pot…?
to add insult to injury, i found a different birthday cartoon and its got subtitles for a foreign language…
how about doing something online?
they’re just messin’ with you
I think there are enough porn sites already.
i soak the beans, bring them to a first boil, discard that water and add new. i seared the hamhocks and bacon and deglazed the pan with a little bit of bean water. i then poured the pan drippings into the beans, added the chopped up bacon and hamhocks and then seasoned with salt and pepper. then i added the garlic and boiled the shit outta it for about an hour and then lowered the temp and simmered it covered the rest of teh day. adding more water if needed. they sat in the fridge overnight and i reheated the pot on the stove while the rice was cooking.
*oh snap*
i swear dearie — i had the first one all picked out last week — went to write the post tonight and whammo. tis forkery for sure
That’s right! damn! Says here its tomowrrow but i guess it’s yesterday where you’re at. Shoulda known. My little girl’s in LA. Going to Occupy Orlando tomorrow. Weather is great and will be great tomorrow. Absolutely no idea how many to expect. I would think not too many but just gotta keep doing it.
*laughing* i was thinking along your gaming likes dood :)
Yum! Nothing like some good bean soup in the early fall. Just brings the season on.
Hate when the youngsters try to make up for their ignorance by being obnoxious hard-asses. But I guess it’s what they learn in big firms. we never did deps in a workers’ comp case in NJ. I hate deps. Fall asleep. Not good.
take pictures! then you can write an #occupy diary and if you have uploaded your pics (an easy thing to do at sites like flicker) you can insert the pics into the diary.
i’ve noticed a lot of the personal reporting about visits to occupy locations are getting a lotta attention both at myfdl and on the front page at fdl.
Sounds awesome…! I’m gonna have to try it out soon…! A pound of pintos, a ham hock or two, and how much bacon…?
Greetings Suzanne,
I’d love to meet this “Sally” but my dear sweet, better half might have an objection.
Have a lovely Late Night!
Hi guys.
I’m thinking since I’m in one of the flight paths to Orlando International, I should put 99% on the roof.
i gotta get to bed if i’m gonna drag these old bones to an Occupy tomorrow. Take care everybody!
I’ve been looking for years, but haven’t come up with any practical gaming thing to do. Games are the scope of major motion pictures these days. People are writing games for smartphones, but I don’t really know anything about that market.
Too many people selling other people’s games.
Already every type of game review site, game modding site, mod repository, etc., that you can think of.
my mom used to make beans served with fried potatoes. i don’t have a cast iron skillet and the fried potatoes just don’t cook the same in my fry pan so i went with the rice.
i will be adding leftovers to the pot as the week progresses so its going to get even heartier — i’m even thinking biscuits or cornbread
youy going tomorrow to Occupy Orlando?
I’m taking my flipcam to Hilo’s protest Monday afternoon…! ;-)
hey foxman how ya doing tonight? glad ya liked it
Where and when is it?
Sure I’ll go.
Kira D. Dog sez it’s time for bed. So I’m off. Later, peeps.
just a couple slices. i used scissors to slice them into about 1 and 1/2″ long segments before frying them up with the hamhocks
hey tuez — how was your day? i like it!!!
g’nite bfl
Oh, yes. Sitting with the applicant and trying not to fall asleep and fall off my chair….I learned to take notes just to keep myself awake. And some defense attorneys are okay…ask reasonable questions and get done. It’s the ones who come with a script and want to pad their salaries by dragging it out for four hours that drive me nuts. And the nasties who come with the attitude that every applicant is committing fraud. Sheesh. The suits from Los Angeles are the worst for me. Arrogant creeps. But today was good. So I’m mellow. Everyone did their job. No one got hurt.
Cassoulet Suzanne –
from Wikipedia’s Cassoulet:
fork
Pleasant dreams, dave, foxman, and BFL…! *g*
yay! diary it dood!
g’nite dave
a single original cassoulet being extended for years or even decades.
Sounds like a sourdough starter…!
hey aitch — such a fancy word for what i’ve always called refrigerator soup – i was cooking french and didn’t even know it *laughing*
how ya doing tonight?
Good evening, all. Haven’t read the comments yet, but checking in to say we stood today and we’re standing tomorrow.
As we stand and talk we realize we’re all fuckin’ good at one thing or another! What a good day.
Also, this is a fine night for chatting,ah, spouting opinions, all over FDL. An amazing social media communication mothership when you scan all the conversations taking place at any time.
Fuckin’ A !
Suz!
Gettin’ through the day; trying to find enough work to pay the bills (like a lot of folks here.)
Enjoy, everybody, while we still can!
Drive by to say Hippo birdies to ewe earlee to Suzanne!
I’m falling asleep. Havne’t made my birthday cake yet, but I guess it’s gonna have to wait.
I’m going to the Met Opera Broadcaset tomorrow, so cake baking will be delayed some more.
Hope you have a good day, Suze. It’s been lotsa fun sharing a birthday with you these last few years. Whew…reminding me how long I’ve been hanging out here. News flash..time flies!
I’ll be wearing my FDL t-shirt too…! ;-)
Chamber of Commerce at 8 and march through downtown from there at 11:30
hey openhope — how’s the sound tonight? you been over to occupy seattle yet?
newton! how’s the west bay tonight?
wise words foxman.. thanks
Alright, openhope…!
hey tejan — thanks! whacha gonna see at the opera?
those shirts come in so handy — i use my fdl tote bag for grocery shopping
It’s beautiful. Great day here.
I miss Lurking Mod.
I’m studying the perfect Pecan/Chocolate drops to lure Lurking Mod back. I’m going to drop them like bread crumbs.
And then abuse Lurking Mod by my inability to refrain from typing c**** from time to time.
This one’s for you, dear Lurking Mod.
***edited by post author***
There is no chance I’ll make it at 8 a.m., I don’t do mornings. But 11:30 is doable with some like minded peeps in tow.
If I bring my dog, if I by chance get arrested, not that I’m planning on it, what happens to her? She’s chipped, tagged and up to date on shots.
sweet! bay area falls are the best – not too hot, not too cold, things starting to green up again
at my old dept, we would ask the dog owner if there was someone who could respond to the scene and take custody of the dog. otherwise, we had to ask animal control to respond and the dog spent time in doggie jail at the animal shelter — located next to the jail.
You might lose that dog in the crowd, Tuez. Sounds like a plan to me….
Not doin so good: I was nearly all recovered from having my feelings hurt something awful tonight for the first time since I woke up on a Wednesday after just voting for George McGovern, and now I find out that you don’t have a cast-iron skillet. : (
It looks like you’re hale and (as usual) well met. Anyone who can cook — I mean cook — lives a bountiful life. Congrats and stay that way!
hey robert — how ya doing tonight?
i have one — its in the pod with my stuff. i just don’t have one here.
does that help?
First lemon cake & green tea night of the season for me. Hope the cops don’t cuff Tuez’s doggie…..
There’s oxygen again. You can feel it.
The police are lightly stepping up the program for their brutality, as far as I see. Propagandizing it/black-out media to the point of “good american” acceptance. Standing on a corner for 1 hour is not really ” a big thing”.
I had a 5 minute conversation with a woman I like, yet had to leave behind , because of her “Don’t Rock My Boat” political knowledge. She was sure that Obama was trying, against all odds, to save us all. She was angry that I was shocked. She did not want her bubble burst.
with a new grandchild.
how long will that be your nighttime snack? until spring?
Anna Bolena – Italian for Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII’s second wife, mother of Elizabeth I.
I’ve been fascinated with Elizabeth and her parents since I was a little kid and read a Landmark book bio of her. Been wanting to go to one of these theater broadcasts since I learned about ‘em…so when Anna Bolena turned up on my birthday…sung by Anna Netrebko, a hot soprano I haven’t had much chance to hear…it was a no-brainer what to do for my present to myself.
I was trying to explain to a frined this afternoon why I like opera…guess by this age, either you do or you don’t. But I like it best when I can see as well as hear it, and this is a bargain way to do it.
No, we are saving our gas rations. Go local.
Yes! I’ve come in off the ledge.
Maybe I should just put the pet sitter on standby.
Although said puppy won’t walk with the pet sitter. Mz.Velcro likes things as they are.
Can I just say, given my experience as a criminal defense lawyer, however limited, plus observation of the Occupies with police just lately -don’t take your dog.
The chances of getting arrested are looking way too good, even though you haven’t done anything to violate any law. They don’t mind making something up.
And if you do, there’s no assurance at all that they will do as Suzanne’s department did, call someone to pick up the dog.
I’d assume worst-case scenario – that the dog will be sent to animal control, where bad things happen, all too often by mistake.
In short, don’t risk it, dude. Leave the dog at home, where he’s safe.
wow! that’s a great birthday present to yourself — its like it was totally meant to be what with it falling on your birthday and everything. i hope its all you hope and more than you dared to hope :)
Yep.
are local events springing up outside of seattle?
yay!
Dearie – are you an ALJ for workers comp now? Not sure from your description of the depo.
Thanks! Fits my rationale for spending the money. Besides, for once, the theater has a senior rate that starts at 60 instead of 65. It’s only 2 bucks, but it may be the first time I’ve actually gotten to take advantage of senior rate.
If you’re gonna get old, you might as well take advantage of it right?
I’m wondering what kind of responses I’ll get monday…! I hope to record some of them, besides recording the signs and local faces…! ;-)
dayam straight skippy — i’m able to get a senior discount at the fred meyer on food items on the first tuesday of each month. their discount starts at 55 and i’m looking forward to getting to use the others as i acquire them
I’m an atty who works for my brother’s work comp firm. I used to do all the personal injury cases…..but when Ahnold (Der Governator) trashed the work comp system in California, my brother ‘condensed’ his offices. Now I just do depositions for his work comp clients. Perfect for me since I’m retirement age but like to keep my finger in. And it’s a help to him.
Thank you.
I don’t mind putting my comfort on the line, but I really would hate my dog suffering.
evening, firegods
Aloha, PPD…!
happy birthdays are in order, Suzzz?
I don’t know what it’s like to be a mother, so all I can say is nothing in life is better than the arts.
(Here’s hoping you’re so transformed at the opera that you’ll MyFDL about it!)
100…?
tuezday – whew. No intent to lecture, but I do fear the animals suffering for our behavior…and I just don’t trust law enforcement to do the right thing. These last couple decades their behavior in the most minor arrest scenarios has been appalling…hauling mothers off to jail leaving kids in the car, etc., etc. Let alone when they’ve been persuaded they’re dealing with “hippies” or “commies.”
Dearie – ah, I see. What with the defense atty asking if she did okay, I just thought you might have been the judge. For some reason I had thought you were retired. Sounds perfect, all right…if you can just stay awake, huh?
And now, I really have to go. I’ve been sleeping too late, lately, and don’t want to risk being late to my big present-to-me-event. *g*
Stay safe, everybody.
hiya CT — Jupiter just gets brighter and brighter
Happy birthday dreams, tejana. Enjoy your day!
Sweet dreams and happy bday, tj…! *g*
I haven’t been outside yet since the Sun set here about an 1 and a 1/2 ago…! I did get to see one of the domes opening up from the inside tonite…! Looked into the large segmented mirror too…! ;-)
Yes, Bellingham is a college town with an active Whatcom Peace and Justice Center.
The thing is, we need to just go into our community and sit in front of our Bank of America for an hour.Or any choice of Corporations that have taken over our small town in the last 15 years and driven the local businesses out. But that’s a radical action and it’s easier to stand on a neutral corner designated to political vigils. I don’t know if I’m tough enough to do it alone. I know my S.O. won’t do it without at least 4 other people.
If not me, who?
If not now, when?
I am the 99%
Okay, fuck it. I’ll do it! lol
happy b-day, tj
Pro golfers are eligible for the Champions Tour (ne Senior Tour after it was called Legends of Golf) and the Senior US Open at 50. Gary Player called it “a mulligan in life”.
Community, community, community.
You will be energized.
Hilo doesn’t have any BoA branches here, but, Merrill Lynch had recently built a new Office Building and that’s our focal point…!
Gotta love them Cleveland cops looking out for the OWSers by giving them tents….

Hey folks.
Exciting day here in SF. Lots of protests of my buddy Rupert Murdoch at that education conference.
Anyone hear about that?
pretty amazing, by Jove
If you have a Target, Safeway, Wells Fargo, ExxonMobil ,Texaco….I’d name more but I’d have to go out to the garage and get my sign.!
:)
There’s a never ending supply of Pirates to choose from.
No, but I hope to. Somehow Murdoch and Education sound like an oxymoron.
Yea. Fox News starts ‘em young. Here is the story in the Chronicle
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/10/14/BA831LH9JC.DTL
Actually, I shouldn’t say never-ending.

Wonder how that Wall Street paid white shirt that punched that young protester today for no reason at all is sleeping tonight now that the kid let it be known he’s HIV positive?
I didn’t read that story, was it a police officer?
Here in Wa. we have Dems promoting charter schools and busting unions. We were supposed to be the bulkhead for social priority issues. New York, California, Washington.
We’re in for a fight because Doc Hastings[Koch} and the Koch machine has gained a foothold while everyone was out doing other stuff. We have dems sponsoring Union-busting bills with the slick House-Senate dance.
We need help. now. SOS
Hiya, pups. It warmed up in Wasilla for a fall storm, but it is mostly missing us.
Last Sunday the Chugach Brass, the resident brass faculty trio at the University of Alaska Anchorage played the Anchorage premiere of my suite, Aleutian Sketches. They premiered it in Dutch Harbor-Unalaska last May, but this was the first time I’d heard it. I’ve posted the youtube at fdl’s Saturday Art.
http://www.salon.com/2011/10/14/ny_cop_punches_protester_during_morning_march/
…promoting charter schools, teacher pay for performance and more digital instruction in schools.
I definitely agree that the first two are bad, but, what’s wrong with the digital instruction part…?
I haven’t seen that clip.
I had a wonderful afternoon having a 3 hour lunch with a friends and talking of numerology, archeology, philosophy,American history and it was so good to talk of other things.
Sometimes, it’s hard to fully understand the degradation of conversation that slowly occurs with an Oppression. It’s hard to put a finger on. But, being raised by socialist intellectuals, I have an inner feeling that we need to explode with art, music, poetry, writing, film.
Unless you’re in the financially unaffected group. Then it’s just belt tightening. Like we used to do.
check out what it is before you decide.
I wonder how many folks realize that NYC isn’t baring all the costs of the police presence. Wall Street’s top banks and hedgers have a contract with the city that pays for much of the cost when the banksters request protection from protesters–especially the pay for those in the white shirts….
Good night, all.
I’m going for a bowl of popcorn and low rent TV. “Dirty,Sexy Money”. Not rocket science.
I hope everything is well with Suz…! She hasn’t commented in over an hour…! That would an auspicious start to one’s Bday…! 8-(
Sweet dreams, open…!
I think a .0001 % have a clue how the police get their money, when Security doesn’t mean Police, where helicopters come from………………….!
Sweet dreams.
Goodnight.
Happy Birthday li’l sis!
Well, she is getting up in years. Old girl may have felled asleep at the computer….
Happy Birthday, Suzanne!
If her internet is like our internet that’s the new normal.
I hope I’m not being too dismissive of Suzanne’s not being here.
Happy Birthday, Suzanne. Candles lit, waitin for your wish….
*heh* I’m sure Suz will find the humor…! ;-)
Happy B-day Suz.
Having just got back from a trip to the land of beautiful heathens. I am as yet not ready to put into words. This may take a few daze of being back in the hamlet.
Oy, bite your tongue! Suzanne would never fall asleep during a shift!
Happy birthday, Suzanne.
And now a Good Night.
sweet dreams
Where is the land of beautiful heathens? I thought you lived there.
forking cable went down but its back up (woohoo)
thanks for all the birthday wishes folks *blushing* it means a lot that i’m starting off my birthday celebration with my fdl familly
Aloha, ET and homeroid…!

It’s great to see ya back up, Suz…! Never a dull moment, eh…?
*sigh* its been a while since i’ve been reminded that i’m double irish *laughing*

hope to see ya tomorrow nite for cartoons. thanks again for all your birthday wishes… i’m really touched
thank you
g’nite all
HAH. Yes but we wuz all there down south. I was blown away by all the connections to people i know and the folks i met. I mean people i know from the 70′s who have nieces and ex’s who i ran into and it all connected back here in the hamlet. I know what are the odds? 700,000 to 1. If we could sit over a cup of coffee we would be rolling with laughter. Other than that you will have to wait for me to clean the story.
When they finish rebuilding my TDI’s engine I might make it down the road.
Morning Suz.
Good morning, pups. It’s Blow, Nocera and Collins today. Mr. Blow, in “The Bleakness of the Bullied,” says bullying isn’t just a harmless game, it can be a deadly one, and we need to be reminded of that constantly. Mr. Nocera says “The 1930s Sure Sound Familiar,” and that many of the lessons of the Great Depression seem more relevant than ever today. Ms. Collins has been reading again, poor soul. In “Here’s the Herminator” she says readers, readers everywhere, at this week’s meeting of the Presidential Primary Book Club, we are discussing “This Is Herman Cain!”
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got Irish oatmeal with your favorite toppings. You can have raisins, brown sugar, dried cranberries, cream, or whatever strikes your fancy. As for myself, I put butter and salt on mine. As anticipated, Psychic Cat showed up yesterday afternoon, looking very proud of himself for having dodged the vet again. I could just strangle him…! Have a great day.
CalPERS to vote against return of Murdochs to News Corp. board
hey hate2 — sorry i missed ya last night
oooo thanks for the breakfast marion!
hey pd — sorry i missed ya!
