The Doors — Back Door Man; Five To One, from Live At The Hollywood Bowl, July 5, 1968.
What’s on your mind?
This is a test. Nothing is wrong with your Late Late FDL. Test. Deep dish Apple pie. Yum….
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…!
Can ya send me a slice or two…? ;-)
Good evening. After a good day. Hi Suz and Robert and Pups-in-General.
hey robert — how’s soPA tonight?
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
hey dearie — how’s the so central ca coast tonight?
I’m watching a fascinating PBS show on the Bracero Program. My best friend’s grandfather was a bracero….wonderful family!
We are into Indian Summer, and a hunka hunka deep dish apple pie is wizzing through the inter tubes to CT….
A pretty decent day here in Paradise, M’dear…! *g*
i grabbed a slice as it went past me yum!
Yummers…! Mahalos, The robert…! ;-)
evening, firegods – hiya Suzzzz
At least ya left me something…! ;-)
How’s that thick, sweet, very moist cinnamony crust?
Best part of the pie for me….
Eddie Vedder owes his career to clips like this.
Suz, great vid!
hey ppd — how was your day?
yummy — it soaked up a lotta the flavors from the pie too….
it was only one slice dood :)
Hey, there, Dearie,PPD & Newton….
Was it a vodka based crust…?
hey newton — how’s the sf west bay tonight? its from a dvd out called the doors live at the hollywood bowl and there’s some interesting trivia. it was the only complete concert of theirs that was ever filmed. from the trivia section at the hollywood bowl link in the post:
Mick Jagger (of The Rolling Stones) attended this performance. It was his first time seeing The Doors live, and although he later said that he enjoyed the show overall, he also complained that some of the songs dragged on too long.
I made sure I sent a cut from the corner that I know the cat (Merlin) wasn’t caught chewing on….
Nope. Couldn’t sneak vodka past The Sweety. She can smell boose from 40 paces north, south, east & west….
And, Mick should complain about such nonsense, eh…? ;-)
ha! i made chunky cinnamon apple sauce sunday and shared a jar with my downstairs neighbor. peeled and cored apples, cinnamon, a touch of water, gentle heated over a medium-low burner with the lid on until the apples are soft. turn the heat down and let them simmer until they start to fall apart and stir vigorously until the texture desired.
also makes a great filling for pie, turnovers, and is kick ass with pork
iirc he was sitting next to pamela, jim’s girlfriend during the show…
I’m drooling, M’dear…! How much is postage…? ;-)
Nostalgia tonight. A tweet told me that it’s the anniversary of Janis Joplin’s death today.
Sigh. Feelin’ old, old, old.
cheaper to buy a bag of apples and make it yourself.. easy peasy dood
Kreiger, Manzarek, Dunsmore n that crazy fuck Morrison.
First two albums were off the charts, the rest of their music was insanely delicious.
N then they went by by.
They made The Stones, Altamont, Symphony For The Devil look tame.
Morrison was one of the craziest fucks of all of rock n roll.
Great vid Suz . . . light rain here, more this am as we shift to Wed.
I’m outta here, long day . . . just popped in to say howdy to you and all Baggers.
On We Occupy!
hey tejan — i saw that tweet today too. here’s some turtle for ya… that was a bad forking year.. iirc we lost janis, jimi, and otis within a few months of each other
Suze…you’re in apple growing country, aren’t you? Or, oh, I guess that’s Washington state…not too far, though.
Just curious as to how much apples cost in your neck o’ the woods. I find I don’t make applesauce often ’cause apples are so expensive here…jarred applesauce is cheap, even the sugar-free kind.
The cheapest apples right now are $1.69/lb, many are more like $2.50/lb.
That sounds like Mick, considering the Stones entire studio catalog includes only 5 songs longer than seven minutes… however, 2 of them (Going Home [Aftermath] and Sing This All Together [Satanic Majesties]) were released before this performance.
hey larue — glad ya liked it dood — thanks for the drive-by and g’nite
i have apple trees on the property but when mom was here, she went to safeway and bought a bag of apples…. i have no idea what they cost here :(
what variety of apple, Suzzz?
Oooh! Thx! I remember that album cover! Not one I have, but I remember it.
Yeah, 1970…every time you heard multiple cuts of a one artist on the radio, you knew they were dead.
It’s sort of my baseline year for the beginning of my real life. Got married, moved away from Indiana, got my first real job…plus rock-n-roll’s biggest stars kept od-ing. Counterculture fail?
they were apples she got at safeway and when she got home, she tossed the netting (with the label) when she arranged them on a plate on the dining room table
the apple trees here grow freedom apples
Those 6 Granny Smith apples I bought were $1.25 a piece….
i still have that album… along with the morrison hotel/hard rock cafe album from the doors
…Symphony For The Devil look tame. Last I’d looked, Larue, it was ‘Sympathy for the Devil’…! Btw, that was the Altamount clip…!
On the property! Oooh, drool!
Apple trees and certain other flora are among the seasonal-type things (they need winter) I still miss after 27 years here. Pecans are a lot cheaper here, though. Had a couple trees in the backyard when living with the ex last.
Still, think I’d rather have apples, especially certain “rare in these parts” varieties. Too many new hybrids replacing the good old stuff (yeah, and get offa my lawn, too!)
hey tuez — how was your day?
and i’d love to have a pecan tree. :)
My day was same as yesterday, I prefer no drama.
But the puppy finally barked at something other than a cat or another dog. She actually barked at the meter reader. I had thought her watchdog skills were somewhere south of zero but she proved me wrong.
Eat your hearts out, the avocados are ripening on the trees.
Too bad we can’t trade, huh?
The music is great tonight, but I’ve had a busy day, so I’m going to go to bed shortly. Keep it going!
(gulp) avocados fer sure beat apples…. they cost more at the store too
Eat your hearts out, the avocados are ripening on the trees
I am, I am! yummmmmm…
Do you know, aside from not having a lot of vitamin D, avocado is the perfect food?
*heh* I’ve got Mangoes ripening on the trees…! 8-P
Been trying to say welcome, Tuez, but keep getting popup database connection problem….
just an avocado
Oh, you win…although I eat a lot more apples than any of those “exotic” fruits. And now, I really am going before somebody else tells us about their orange or banana trees.
p.s. I once had a peach tree, but frost killed it off. Sigh. That’s the best I can do.
sleep well tejan
heh, we got them too and pineapples, though they don’t grow on trees. And bananas and star fruit and sugar apples and, and, and.
We probably have the same things.
On edit: And we have the most worthless orange trees in the yard.
robert, you got trapped in the filters again.. i free ya
Wow, if anyone wants to learn about how fucked up our ‘guest worker’ program is and how it got that way, look for the PBS bracero program. I am so glad that my friend’s grandfather got hired long term by Limoneira, a lemon ranch run by a Portughese family. Her family thrived. For most, apparently, the trek was hideous. And NAFTA (long after the bracero program, of course) made things worse by degrees.
My own immigrant greatgrandparents from Europe had a better chance.
Suzanne, you are my FDL hero, my FDL savior, my FDL Wonder Woman, my FDL Zena!
Guava trees even…! ;-)
And we have the most worthless orange trees in the yard.
That sux, Tuez…!
i remember watching one on pbs a yaer or so ago and iirc, it focused on the washington state and oregon braceros. i’ll look for it — opb has been airing prohibition this week and its been fascinating. i missed it tonight and wil catch the rerun tomorrow nite at 1am…
Sweet dreams, tj…!
tis my pleasure.. i’ll keep an eye on the filters and free anything i see trapped tonight until the tech guy fixes the glitch
I have a loquat tree in my yard. But loquats are too sweet for me.
Happy dreams, all.
*heh* The eternal night owl…! ;-)
I’ve been DVRing Prohibition. Something really sucks at our State College PBS station, because the programing is always freezing. Right now its been stuck on a single frame in Prohibition for nearly forty minutes….
ubetcha dood… all them years on the streets working swing shift (my fav)
that happens here too.. at least the sound stops and i don’t hear that ch-ch-ch-ch-ch repeat over and over and over
This shit pisses me off. My grandparents were immigrants. They fought that fight already, I shouldn’t need to do it again. But, damn, my Pop-pop taught me to tie my shoes and I’ve never forgotten that. How can any of us forget where we came from? I could be wrong, but aren’t most of us only one or two generation Americans?
Since I grew up in North Jersey, I might have a biased opinion on immigrants.
Suz, can I ask ya a simple question…? How did I go from zero to hero…? I had attained #2 on the myFDL Rec list, but, I’d faded off the list by the time you’d posted lln, but, now I’m #1…? The mysteries never cease…! *g*
very nice — My gala apples are ready for the same treatment, Suzzz
its all based on the recommends and comments and i have no idea how that algorithm works… just know that it updates and adusts regularly..
I read your Diary today, CT.
I didn’t comment because between the barbarism of the PLO blowing up innocent kids in parts of Israel in the 60s & 70s and the current savagery of the land-stealing Israelis, I just don’t know who to sympathize with anymore….
I think it’s because you can be recommended without anyone commenting. I rarely comment (hate redundancy) but often recommend.
galas are great apples. the freedoms are not so pretty but sure cook up well.
I still can’t locate that recommend botton in the diaries. How do I go about that recommend thang?
So prior restraint prohibition is striking a blow against Ken Burns’ Prohibition — just another nail in the coffin of Irony, RA.
I just don’t know who to sympathize with anymore….
I wear my Heart on my sleeve, the Palestinians are most definitely getting the ‘short-end’ of the stick, robert…! 8-(
its not a button.. its a link at the bottom of the diary and right above where the comments start
Apparently these days, that’s the only way to get our Freedoms, in apple pie, eh?
Somebody at the station must’ve fallen asleep. Dayam frame still stuck where its been for over an hour now….
heh! these are old trees and we’ve lost 3 in the 3 winters i’ve been through here. down to just 4 now…
Thanks, Suzanne. CT just got another recommendation….
It sure is a mighty tasty means of serving up our Freedoms, PPD…! ;-)
Freedoms are an endangered species all over America.
I have Granny Smiths & Fujis, Suzzz — my three favorites
and the happy lucky 100!!! well done ppd!!!
my pleasure dood
Congrats, PPD…! Ya saved Suz from herself…! (ducking…)
I awarded Circle 8 writer Laurie L.Darroch my editor’s choice for best story in our upcoming anthology Apocryphilia. Her story was simply an amazing portrait of a Native American plodding through the night and alert to the wolf stalking him. Excerpt:
Ivan shivered slightly in spite of the heat, but kept walking straight ahead. He had learned to respect the wild ones at his reservation. He learned his own limits and, even more, his own strengths in his forays with the local wolf pack. They had accepted him.
This lone wolf is different. It is challenging me, testing me.
He could feel its eyes on his back.
Mis-quee-jah-bun, evil eyes.
Ivan saw the lights of a corner store, about a block away. It was open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
I’ll go inside the store to cool off, grab a cold pop and watch out the window to see if I see any sign of the wolf. Maybe an ice cold drink will clear my head.
Three police cars were haphazardly parked with beacons flashing in front of the store. Wary, Ivan continued past the small crowd that was gathered around the front door.
I hate the damned police. They follow me everywhere I go, just because I am native.
They followed him in grocery stores, watching to make sure he didn’t steal anything. It made his wife madder than hell.
“It’s profiling,” she’d tell him, another new fancy term that covers its ugly truth with a polite name. “Prejudice is what it is,” his wife said to him, “pure racial prejudice wrapped up in a pretty bow to somehow make it acceptable.”
She is right, he thought. I should know. I have lived with it for years in this crappy city.
Hey Suz, all of that blather about us not getting rained on here – officially stowed. We’re getting drenched going on two days now.
The pavement around here is like an oil slick :-)
wow… i can see why ya selected it for editor’s choice
sweet! you guys needed it for sure. i’m supposed to get a good soaking tomorrow.. picked up 2/3rds of an inch today
It’s titled Native Moon, and is one of the best short stories I’ve ever read about the clash between the modern world and the deep spirituality in the soul of a Native American.
Simply supurb writing….
tis a good sign when i don’t accidentally snag the 100 on what is my monday. iirc, i snagged it the past two of my mondays in a row
Hey now, I did make a concerted effort too…! I only have the best of intentions there, M’dear..! ;-)
you’ve thrown yourself on that 100 so many times i figure you have a 00l embossed on your tummy….
This could have been the 100 that caused you to buy that winning big jackpot lottery ticket, Suzanne.
Now, we will never know….
always glad to help, if I’m still awake ;)
i’m about to go g’thud peeps. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
Goodnight, Suzanne. Again, thanks for all your help. Dream enchanting dreams….
…iirc, i snagged it the past two of my mondays in a row…
And then the next nite, and, then the next nite, and, even the next nite…!
It’s not a pretty track record…! (Now, I’m really ducking…) *g*
Sweet Dreams, Suzzz…! *g*
night Suzzz – be well
night all, time for some sleep
Pleasant Dreams, PPD…!
