It takes the offer of amnesty to get rich people to reveal their offshore bank accounts. Finally, after years of neglect, the IRS has actually bothered to look into all this. But they had to assure the oligarchs that they wouldn’t be prosecuted for tax evasion, of course.

| By: Blue Texan Friday September 16, 2011 10:30 am |
The Secessionist made a pilgrimage to Liberty University this week to kiss the ring of Jerry Falwell, Jr. and seek absolution for his HPV vaccine problem. All was forgiven — and then some.

Can I have a nice lecture from Senator Murray on how it’s my duty as a citizen to vote for one or the other of the corrupt jerks they put in my face?
Marriage Delayed is Marriage Denied |
| By: Peterr Friday September 16, 2011 8:20 am |
Your job is to be the town clerk. When two people present themselves to be obtain a marriage license, your job is to insure that they meet the requirements of the state of New York before you issue it to them. Is one of them too young? Your reply is simple: “No license for you. Come back when you’re older.” Is one of them presently married to someone else? Again, your answer is clear: “Sorry, but it’s one license at a time per customer. Come back when the old one is void.” Is one of them drunk? “Sorry, but we can’t serve you if you’ve had too much to drink. Come back when you’re sober.”
Supreme Court Stops Texas Execution |
| By: David Dayen Friday September 16, 2011 7:15 am |
The Supreme Court made the rare decision to step in and order a stay of execution for Duane Edward Buck in Texas, hours before he was to die, because the jury sentencing him to death was told that Buck posed a greater threat to public safety because of his race.
The justices still must determine whether they will review the Buck case, so this stay may not last very long.

| By: David Dayen Friday September 16, 2011 6:11 am |
Last night, it didn’t look as if the Senate would be able to get the clean extension of both the FAA authorization and the surface transportation authorization before a deadline of today. Tom Coburn was holding up the bill in a fruitless crusade against bike paths. It’s a long story.

What a shock, a bipartisan coalition of the self-blessed acts out against the rest of gluttonous America and their piggish desire to live at a decent standard of living.

Late Night FDL: Floozies for Good |
| By: Phoenix Woman Thursday September 15, 2011 8:00 pm |
In my sillier moments, I used to kick around the idea of “Floozies for Good”. In my fevered imagination, this would have been a group of highly trained young (or young-looking) women sacrificing themselves to seduce rich bozos so they could soak up as much loot as they could, and turn a chunk of that loot over to worthy causes. The really successful ones would, if they could either stomach their catches for the long haul or were able to make them bearable as life partners, wind up in the guys’ wills.
