Behold the Republican Secret

By: Attaturk Tuesday September 20, 2011 1:30 am

Liza/Reagan Impersonator Paul Ryan has now cried havoc and ‘Class War’ on Obama’s plan to make the rich pay taxes (he likes slavery well-enough though). OMG, a modest tax increase on millionaires that reduces the “greatest evil of all time” the deficit…why it’s …it’s….it’s still class warfare. In which case bring it, because it hasn’t been much of a war so far, just panzers driving over us proles.

Late Night FDL: Surrendering in Advance

By: Allison Hantschel Monday September 19, 2011 8:00 pm

All of this acting like the inevitable just happens, like none of these things are choices. We can’t afford Social Security and Medicare … because we’d rather have two unwinnable wars and a bunch of people paying their yacht club dues. We can’t get single payer health care through Congress … because we elected people who call themselves Democrats through a mouthful of corporate junk. We can’t rebuild our roads and schools … because we’re too busy worrying about the latest missing white lady.

Here Is Class Warfare

By: dakine01 Monday September 19, 2011 7:15 pm

So apparently, the phrase of the week from Republicans is “Class Warfare!” as a response to President Obama’s proposal for a new Millionaire’s Minimum Tax. Paul Ryan and Lindsey Graham both used the phrase yesterday on the Bobble head shows.

Obama Deficit Rhetoric Moves from Compromise to Campaign

By: Jon Walker Monday September 19, 2011 6:30 pm

President Obama’s deficit speech may be viewed as the moment the Obama administration fully pivots away from trying to reach bipartisan compromise, to instead focusing on winning 2012 by bashing the Republican Party.

FDL Movie Night: “1991: The Year Punk Broke”

By: Lisa Derrick Monday September 19, 2011 5:00 pm

In 1991, the band Sonic Youth asked filmmaker Dave Markey to come along on their European festival tour which included several other bands, and document the goings on. Having Markey film the tour was a very prescient decision, since one of the bands, Nirvana, had just shot the video for “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and was about to release Nevermind…And then punk broke.

The Bankster Friend’s Warning Shot

The Sunday edition of a dead tree newspaper is the most important edition of the week. Some people only read the Sunday paper, drawn in by the magazine section and the comics. When the editor decides to make a particular story front page of the Sunday edition, that editor is looking for maximum eyeballs on the story.

Yesterday’s New York Post, the flagship of Rupert Murdoch’s American fleet of media outlets, had a full page, front page, article with huge photo, of a heretofore unfamous Assistant Attorney General working for New York State Attorney General Eric Schniederman.

Geithner Denies Insubordination on Citi Wind-Down Plan

By: David Dayen Monday September 19, 2011 4:00 pm

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner forcefully denied the claim in a book by Ron Suskind that he ignored a request from the President to work up a plan to dissolve Citigroup. He further added that the entire theme of the book, about infighting in the White House over economic policy issues, bears “no resemblance to reality.”
