Is OWS over, or are there still some demonstrators?
People are still at Liberty Plaza. See comments at the Dissenter.
http://dissenter.firedoglake.com/2011/09/25/nypds-iron-handed-response-to-occupy-wall-street/#comments
Kevin put this up yesterday, but people are still commenting this morning.
Thanks, BT. Since those shutdowns work out so well. For the anti-govvies, let no crisis go unplumbed.
Thanks.
Good morning, pupses, and thank you BT.
Rules are for losers.
And no one could have anticipated this one….
Good Morning, BT and Monday Morning Dawgs,
My, what a variety of stories this morning.
Guitars are not the reason that the rain forests are in danger.
As far as another looming shutdown, Democrats are suckers. Every time.
Maybe those hikers should pick a better place to hike next time. C’mon. Really? Why risk? Huh? There’s always the Appalachians. Sorry, I’m out of sympathy this morning.
Other than that, did all y’all have nice weekends?
Expecting sanity to break out has become the delusion.
You’re not alone. Rescues of folks taking big risks now come with a bill, in most circumstances.
I am the eternal optimist. Pollyanna. Whatever. demi is right (goodmorning, demi!) Democrats are suckers. Oh, hell, nobody can suck that badly. We need to coin another term.
Welcome to you….Good Morning All. It’s Monday, I see.
Hikers’ news conference is first segment on democracynow.
Defeat Snatchers?
Hi ya to you too.
I’ll bite. My weekend included: mummies and manta rays; falafel and the Fox; architecture and absinthe.
It’s such a non-story as far as I’m concerned. Whiners.
“We have been held in almost total isolation from the world and everything we love,” Bauer said. Unless they suffered TOTAL sensory depravation the Iranians treated them better then we treat our own citizens
Ask Jose Pidilla about total isolation. Crying about solitary when their country used it as standard operating procedures .
Their story stinks, are they our cute new CIA guys ?
Good morning. Spent the week end putting a new engine in my pickup truck. I think I was in violation of several state laws because my truck didn’t run. Kinda like not owning at least one gun. It is Texas.
Good morning pups. Thanks for the post BT.
Monday morning has such a wealth of possibilities. As Ms. Peg says, W00t!
Sounds wonderful. We went camping. Seagulls, camp fires, long walks on the dunes, steak and beer. And, best of all…lots of (whispering) quiet.
That’s a good one isn’t it? :)
Around here, you are probably in violation if you don’t have a car up on blocks in the yard and a washing machine on your front porch. It is Tennessee :)
Cool! Prolly good to have four running wheels for the coming winter.
The NYT’s link above is terrible. It is full of NYPD quotes that are pure BS.
Here’s a repost of a Guardian piece. And here is another good read.
That does sound wonderful….whispering….
And, a goat, right?
Good morning all. Getting ready to go on my annual lake tip with my bro this Thursday.
As far as a shutdown I really don’t think Wall Street will allow this. These guys in Washington are a laugh a minute.
Idnit great to be a redneck?
Second segment on democracynow is hikers’ mothers at news conference.
TX parks…staff & hours slashed….Thanks, Rick. He won’t care…lives in verdant luxury….on the public dime.
You are right, they give the reason for the protest as
He and I are joined at the hip forever, I can see that now!
That’s wonderful, and, what life’s about.
Which state are you in, btw?
*g*
I am in Missouri (St. Louis) the lake of the Ozarks is northwest of where I live. My father in law has a house right on the lake he lets me use.
Good morning, pups. Just got 3 grandkids (ages 5, 8, and 10) up, fed, dressed, and out for the school bus. My son and his wife went to Vegas and got married by “Elvis” to celebrate their first anniversary. So an interesting morning already.
Demi, I’m sorta with you on the freed bikers, but I wouldn’t wish time in an Iranian prison on anyone.
I’ve said this before, (because we live in a manufactured house) — Trailer Trash. And, loving it.
I wonder if the leaves are changing? It will be beautiful.
And from yesterday morning, Robert Johnson on the same subject.
Morning BT & Pups of Fire.
Mornin’, BT, pups
Don’t know about OWS but the students at USF are starting their own protest this week in St Petersburg. WMNF has been calling the St Pete Times out all week for not covering OWS but this morning there’s a piece on page 4B. We know the reporters at the Times listen to the station so mayhaps they’ll smarten up, particularly now that USF has gotten into the game.
Now, Old….this is not an area for rednecks, surely….;)
Yeah, me neither, but that’s why I don’t go “biking” near wishy washy borders in that part of the world.
They are just starting to turn a little. Would make a good oil painting if my hands weren’t like bricks. I miss that.
Via Jeff Foxworthy:
You know you’re a redneck when your lawn furniture used to be your living room furniture.
That’s all part of the “Texas Miracle”…
Next segment on democracynow is OWS.
For sure…smoke and mirrors.
You painted? How hard that must have been to have to give up.
Why not start photography now? I’d love to see some pix when you get back.
LMAO Now that’s funny. BTW I ordered the Zen book yesterday the one I downloaded as PDF was another book by Alan Watts since there will be a test. *g*
It is such a crazy mix here. The living room furniture either migrates to the lawn or the “cottage” on the Mountain.
At least Krugman didn’t get on his administration smoochin’ horse this mornin’.
Maybe I will do a diary on my trip with pictures. I have never posted pictures here but I am guessing it will be easy. I can still paint but it’s painful and my hands are not too steady.
We love it here even though we are not rednecks. However, there are more than a few around.
Troy Davis next segment on democracynow.
I’d suggest your local used bookseller but that’s a title rarely found in used book stores. The Way of Zen is an excellent primer on Tao, Hinduism, Buddhism and Zen. Won’t teach ya how to use the I Ching but you can learn that from the I Ching itself.
I talked to two editors here, but still nothing as of this a.m.
I didn’t think of calling our university public radio station. Thanks for the ideer.
Props to Immortal Technique for going by OWS early this morning:
https://twitter.com/#!/ImmortalTech
http://open.spotify.com/album/5QtVyQ6zY1MeSEwaCscyHF
I am hoping it comes before I leave Thursday for my trip so I can read it this weekend. What is ” I Ching” never heard of it. Sorry
oh, and I caught that ohmmmmmmm :)
You.crack.me.up.
My thoughts exactly. Bah, emotionally charged innocents. They don’t have any perspective on things. They only know that where they are now is better than where they were. The act of being released has reaffirmed every idiotic notion of American Exceptionalism in their minds.
In time they will probably reflect on the fact that America wasn’t there for them.
Did you see Delong on Huffpo? Pathetic.
Here.
It’s my job.
I didn’t tell you about the Hunger Rally and March I participated in on Thursday, last. Went with some folks to Downtown LA and rallied on the steps of the City Hall, then marched to the Federal Building. We all had posters and we chanted to the cadence of congo drums.
You say Cut Back. We say Fight Back. Cut Back. Fight Back.
It was pretty neat.
To the self-described “rednecks”, you have some good company from “a coupla hillbillies”:

What little hope remains can be found here. First Wall St. and then the Beltway.
http://www.rawstory.com/rawreplay/2011/09/chris-hedges-occupy-wall-street-is-where-the-hope-of-america-lies/
Off to swim have a great day everyone.
In all seriousness thank you.
How did people on the street and in cars react?
It is the same basic message as OWS. It comes down to exactly that. Cut Back – Fight Back.
Take care, Popeye.
p.s any particular stroke you use?
This is the most recognized edition. There’s also a book of lectures by Wilhelm on the I Ching.
Just keep this in the back of your mind. Lotsa fun but not necessary to understand Eastern thought.
I only scan HuffPo for cute animal pix now.
Freestyle
Thanks I think I have a new book man. *g* have a good one.
Stokes the fire in your belly, doesn’t it?
Doesn’t start to bother your knees? I have to alternate with walking. The flutter kick starts to bother mine if I only swim.
Very nice. Thanks, nwbn. I like the pickin’.
No swimming is the best exercise for me no weight bearing at all.
They timed it so that we were there as people were leaving the buildings to go home. Lots of supportive honking and waving.
Enjoy! You are a good influence :)
It certainly does. And, I had spent the first half of the day in the kitchen at MEND helping to make and serve lunch. T’was a good day for my soul.
Lyrics not too shabby, either. Pretty damn timely, isn’t it?
Maybe I missed something, but I haven’t seen Krugman do much administration smoochin’ at all. He is pretty disgusted with Obama and his economic policies IIRC.
Thanks and have a great day *g*
Yep, Woody was one righteous “hillbilly.” Love him.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.

We could use him, and Will Rogers, right now.
I still can’t believe that Oklahoma produced him, and that they were such a progressive state at one time.
Can you ride a bicycle? I took that up after knee replacement surgery and now it’s a passion, not just exercise.
Also, probably with the help of that song, among other things. I accepted yesterday, fully and consciously that I live in a Fascist State.
Kind of liberating in a depressing sort of way.
You might enjoy Jim Hightower. He’s got a folksy way of speaking and writing.
That’s one quote.
I am referring to the accusation that the pepper spray footage was edited as well as their “spin” for their brutality.
Pure BS.
No it raises my core temperature and causes exacerbation’s.
It’s not where you come from it’s where you go such as Martin Luther King.
I understand. It’s sort of like having something on your mind that is really frightening. Sometimes I find that saying it, out loud, makes it real, and the only way you can fight something is if it is real.
Always withing reach at my desk, a bit dog-eared but a worth-while consultant at frequent intervals.
Exactly, otherwise part of you is participating in the con job. I want to extricate myself from the Lie that it all depends upon.
Yes, you are right.
What demi did last week, and what the OWS protesters are continuing to do today are the steps that move us from the one place to the other.
Have you ever been to Tennessee? Those photos, every one, could have been taken in a 10 minute drive from my home.
Well, maybe 20 minutes :) on edit
Don’t wonder anymore, it is happening for sure. Iridescent pale hues set against still strong variations of green.
Thought you might like this. Amazing woman, amazing performer.
nonqui, you have an artist’s soul and voice.
My oatmeal’s ready, so I’m going to leave you groovy people to get on with my day.
Don’t step on any critters today.
And an amazing intertwining of culture and musical tradition. Human experiences may be very different, but at a certain level they are all the same. Thanks for the link.
Krugman is a good read as always; however, today he doesn’t postulate how the Europeans proceed while in the constraints of the EU Treaty and Eurozone agreements. Simply repudiating or ignoring such is a non-starter, there isn’t time to adjust there, and it would end the EU.
So do the rich eurozone members, especially Germany and France, simply write big checks directly to the IMF and let them dispense, while keeping ECB and EFSF and treaty constraints out of the picture? They can’t, no?
I don’t know where all these connections link up.
The German Finance Minister remains pretty stern in the cannot do category about Geithner’s ideas.
And the proverbial, “starving,” artist’s budget. :^)
Yep, been all over the South over the years.
*g* pretty hard to step on a goat.
OT Demi, I made the phone call.
It shouldn’t have to be like that, nonqui.
Did you say that you had, or did have at one time, a catamaran?
Had a 5.7 meter G-Cat, first with a boom-less main sail, about 10 years ago. Wonderful.
Busy morning, all well wishes to you, I have a 6 gallon pail lightly packed with basil, another of yellow and green beans and a sink full of spinach calling for attention. I got out between rain showers earlier this morning.
Peace and Caring.
I had forgotten about something but it just popped into my head this weekend. My brother and his friend built a cat years ago from scrap plywood and materials.
They covered it with fiberglass and used an old parachute (supposedly one that didn’t deploy like it should have….) for a sail, and sailed it in the Gulf. It looked like hell and must have weighed tons, but they had so much fun with that thing!
I would love to come and visit you and see your gardens and the place where you canoe.
Have a peaceful and wonderful day, nonqui.
Bound is the boatless human. (Variation of a Norse slogan) Canoes with sails here.
My father would have loved that expression, on the deepest possible level. I hope he knew it, although I think he would have shared it if he had.
Thank you again for your kind message last week.
I have to kind of follow demi’s lead on the ‘hikers.’ They knew where they were and why they shouldn’t be there. The treatment they received doesn’t sound outrageous; they don’t seem to have been waterboarded or electrically shocked, and they apparently had relatively unimpeded contact with one another. They didn’t come back and say that the political prisoners in the US would be a priority for them. Just call me a skeptic or a troll, but I don’t buy the whole story.
Been smacked silly with a few booms, so that sounds good.
It is strange how things connect. You’re probably already at work, but I’ll write this anyhoo.
I googled G-cat and one of the sites that popped up mentioned moulds for sale. My brother sort of specialized in moulds. He worked for a subsidiary of Boeing in Seattle and worked with the moulds that made kevlar fairings for jet wings. I guess he made the fairings.
He would have been very interested in those G-cat moulds.
The designer and builder of G-Cats is Hans Geisler. His shop was here in St Pete for many years but he’s since moved to Ft Lauderdale. I bought mine used and the first time I took it to the beach Hans was there without a boat. Had his granddaughter with him and he asked if he could sail my boat. Gladly. I wish I could handle a cat like that. Had that sucker up flyin’ a hull 50 feet off the beach. We were standing up straight the whole day.
O hai!
That boat sounds great! You must have loved having that at the beach.
Here is my sailing experience:
Like Nonquixote I sailed a canoe, and turtled it in the ocean.
My husband and I had a sailfish (the ironingboard of the ocean!) with a sunfish sail. Lets just say it would get overexcited and we spent more time swimming than sailing!
Well, lemme tell ya, I flipped my boat more than once. They say you’re not a cat sailor till you’ve flipped one. The battens in the sail that made the boom-less concept possible will play hell on ya as ya slide down the sail into the water when ya flip. Black and blue from head to toe. Grab the righting line, get ‘er back up and off ya go. Fastest cat in her class at the time. Never turtled ‘er, although I’ve seen one turtle. Water just deep enough that the mast didn’t stick into the bottom.
Gandy Beach on Sat mornings was the gathering of G-Cat sailors and Hans was there more often than not. Great fun had by all.
