Cher — Half-Breed; Gypsys Tramps & Thieves; and Dark Lady, from Cher: Live In Concert, taped at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, 1999.
What’s on your mind?
Hey Suz!
hey newton — how’s the sf west bay tonight?
We’re good here.
You have the company-thing going… how’s it up there?
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…!
tis going great (other than being afk all day). anything happen today? i took mom up to cape lookout and then up to cape meares. then we went to oceanside and had the best clam chowder on the north coast and then we drove up 101 a bit before heading home. we walked a lot and were both wiped by the time we got home. we decided the tillamook cheese factory tour can wait for another day
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Shit, I’m out-numbered by proud grandparents!
Suzanne and newt! Hey!
How nice!
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
my mom is a huge cher fan
Hi Chris!
It’s mighty soggy down below me…!
*heh* Again Space Command has us shuttered…!
ka-ching dood! nothing like getting money for nothing
I’m a huge Cher fan. Thanks, Suz!
Aloha, newt…! I can’t wait to see him tomorrow too…! ;-)
‘evenin’, all-
School, school, and more school. Trying to interpret Marxist theory makes my head hurt, but I get to teach solo for the next two weeks. How’s Mom, Suze?
hey shadowstalker — how ya doing tonight? she’s on twitter — i follow her. she’s been working on a new cd and i guess lady gaga and her do a song that she tweets is fantastic.
hey rond — mom is great! she’s snoozing now. we’ve had a lotta fun playing tourist today and she was so quiet this morning i didn’t hear her until i got up at noon. she’s an early riser and i’m a night owl — i was worried about that but we seem to have worked it out. she’s enjoying reading and playing on my computer while i’m snoozing
oh crap, i forgot my manners. how ya doing rond?
I’m much better now….one abscessed pulled tooth later. Rough week. I will have to find Cher on Twitter. She’s always been one of my heroes.
Ooh, that sounds like a cool duet…!
I’m bummed that R.E.M. called it quits the other day…! 8-(
i linked it in my comment in the word twitter
i really enjoy reading her tweets
good ya got rid of that tooth — abscesses are so forking dangerous
did they? fuck, i totally missed that. i’m so far behind on news….
Just heard tonight — can you post some songs?
ditto what ce said tut. an rem night would be great for one of your nights this weekend… your top two fav songs maybe?
It’s The End Of The World
Aha, got her now! Thank you kindly!
I consider myself very fortunate that I have the job and the insurance to pay for the abscess and removal. I remember being homeless and without any safety net very well and don’t want to repeat the experience.
I was definitely thinking about it…!
i don’t have dental insurance and it was $165 each to pull my bad teeth — he took 12 from the top and one bottom molar and i now have an upper plate. felt so much better when he pulled the real bad ones…. i noticed an improvement in my health right away. he pulled them as i could afford them so we did the worst first.
*heh* One of the comments on that clip…
RIP R.E.M.! Thinking of this song, I wonder what the chances are of a reunion December 21, 2012…
They were done.
They left an incredible catalog.
Mike, Michael, Peter, and even Bill Berry are all ok – None of them are dead or dying.
We should be very thankful.
Drive on guys.
the way of love
Isn’t it amazing that no one talks about dental health, which is incredibly important. When I lost my employment dental care, I was able to buy into an insurance plan that has helped some. How many Americans go without dental care of any kind? We are living in a very sad, sad country that uses people up and casts them off. That we aren’t all in the streets continues to amaze me. Every time that a Paul Ryan type opens his mouth, I cringe and grab my wallet. Sick fucks, they are.
hey dearie — how’s the so central ca coast tonight? when i retired, i lost my dental and vision insurance…have just my medical — i really miss the dental…
you made me love
I have an upper set of dentures, too…but I never wear them. As a result, I look like what everyone seems to imagine a typical Ozark resident to be. We libs ain’t all them effete East coast latte-drinkers, yup. :-)
Believe…
Hey, Suz, we’re doing on-going non-summer down here at the coast. I do worry about people who have no health care to count on. Such a sad state of affairs. And to have half the populace cheering about it just makes me sick.
ha — just like me. when i’m home (which is most of the time) i don’t wear it. i try to remember when i go to the grocery store in town but half the time i get down to the bottom of the driveway, slap my forehead and mutter ‘forgot the forking teeth again’…. i do remember to wear them when i go to jen’s (she gets upset when i don’t have them in) and now that moms here, i’ve been wearing them.
It infuriates me that Missouri’s “welfare” insurance has no dental coverage whatsoever. Dental problems do affect the entire body, after all.
I spent 2011 dental months from hell. 2 root canals lower front. Sigh.
those forkers are part of that hurry up and die and dont realize that they are in fact cheering for their own demise. they just think they are above it and it won’t happen to them
I didn’t watch the debate tonight, just scanned the live blogging. I caught the video clip of the active-duty, combat-zone soldier asking about whether the candidates would try to re-instate DADT.
And the audience boo-ed him.
Can you imagine the uproar if the audience at a Democratic event did that?
I decided those people have a Platonic ideal of a “real” soldier, and anyone who doesn’t conform to that ideal is a legitimate target for hatred. The same for “real” Americans. Or people with “real” jobs.
I can’t imagine how this makes us look to people in the civilized world. They must be seeing clips of this madness, on the net if not on that ancient TeeVee device.
thank goodness for good drugs…. at least they were lower front and not upper front… those are the forking worst!
Hey, since you are talking teeth, or lack thereof, any advice for someone in need of a whole new upper set.
Not only does no one talk about dental health, no one talks about dentures. Even though I don’t have any, I think I can spot them.
On edit” I can’t wait to be able to eat a salad again.
So true. It’s a shame Americans are reduced to feeling ‘lucky’ to have health care insurance.
Access to adequate health care should be a human right.
(Unfortunately, the people exist to serve the government, not the other way around. And hold on to your hats for what’s in store!)
hey dave — how ya doing tonight? i totally missed the debate (and i’m glad i did). i heard perry didn’t do so well this time — saw a tweet earlier that had this line (hope its true):
hey tuez – how ya doing tonight?
hey mikey — how’s sf tonight?
If you need them and can afford it by whatever means…get them. Yeah, they’re easily spotted, but far better to have the falsies than constant pain. That pain wears you down until you’re really useless.
I do wish I were rich enough to get the implants. That would be way cool.
It’s interesting you would say that as a dentist told me, not long ago, that the lower front were the worst to lose, as they control the tongue and speech.
I swear the Repugnants have no morals or decency in their souls whatsoever…! 8-(
I remember someone talking about ‘free trade’ and the idea of bringing in all the doctors and dentists who’d like to come………wouldn’t that be wonderful! Most of the doctors I’ve had through my HMO in south central California have been imported already. Bring in more! Flood the country with trained doctors from wherever as long as they can pass the regular (and not rigged) tests. And build more med and dental schools. Yes!
Didn’t watch the GOP talk orgy tonight. Don’t understand how anyone with a clear mind and a good heart can identify with the Republican Party.
i wish i had the $ for implants too. really sucks that the only way i could afford to have them is if i went to mexico
sorry, i was thinking of the shots to numb them to remove them. each tooth on the upper jaw has to be individually numbed unlike the lower jaw where one shot in the nerve numbs that entire bottom side. shots behind the upper front teeth are the forking worst of the worst
What I meant about spotting them, was that so many people seem to have them and no one talks about it.
I’ve been thinking of going to Mexico to get my front top teeth implanted, as it can be done really cheap in Mexico, among other places, except there is all that violence in Mexico. Although, there are Mexican dentists that cater to foreigners and work to make you feel safe.
I didn’t see any of the debate tonight, but what I heard of it left me with this common recurring thought:
Scott Brown’s now vanished lead in MA prior to Elizabeth Warren’s entry to the Senate race proved one thing – there are few things more volatile in politics than the gravitas-vacuum.
President Obama will likely benefit from the gravitas-vacuum once the GOP picks their
idiotcandidate, but unlike Warren’s incredible vault to the lead, it will be grossly undeserved. What’s amazing is that 25% loony tunes are playing all the songs. Why can we not step up and also shut them up. The TeaPartiers are deluded. Why are these loony-tunes getting all the press. Step up. Stand up. Speak out.
fire
Obama is a complete fucking sellout. He’s talking tough now because he doesn’t want us all to stay home on election day.
There was a great line from an episode in The West Wing in which Leo tells Jed Bartlet he’s tired of having to choose between the lesser of “who cares?”
I’m at that point now.
Shit, you didn’t have the right dentist (surgeon/specialist). I had three removed at once. Ativan 1 mg and gas. My only regret was I didn’t bring my iPod and listen to Dark Side of the Moon while it was happening. Ripping my teeth out of my jaw, who gives a shit. Happy, happy me. Life was good.
You are so ‘the man’ for recalling that line.
they have co-opted the media and tis only the rightwing viewpoint that gets discussed. if 5 teabaggers stand on a corner with signs, they get outnumbered by the media camera crews there.
look at the disparity in getting the wi capitol protests covered and how the r’s tried to hijack that coverage. look at the lack of coverage of the wall street protests.
the r’s have taken over all the media. i blame it on news being changed from a not for profit division of a network to now being a forced to make profits for the corp owners. that in turn influences what they cover — what the media’s masters will let them cover
hey that guy — how was your day?
Eventually, stem cells will be implanted in gums and new teeth will grow from them….
i wudda had to pay extra for that and i didn’t have the money. he offered it as an option but…
hey robert — how’s soPA tonight?
I think there’s a certain level of the “shame factor” that goes on with needing dentures…it was certainly so for me for a long time. I know it’s something I couldn’t help, but it still felt like I’d failed at Hygiene 101.
I couldn’t afford even the Mexican implants myself, wish I could. I just can’t emphasize enough that if you need to get rid of the bad teeth, do so asap to improve your overall health.
Yes, but I don’t want to wait 50 years to eat a salad again.
A friend of mine, with type 1 diabetes, told me over 10 years ago that his endocrinologist had said embryo cells would be able to cure diabetes within 5 years. And we still wait.
Hi Suz, pups, quick drive by…
Reincarnate?
shoop shoop
q! how ya been dood? holy moly that guy sounds JUST like him!!!
Nice. I read ThirdInState’s diary about the increase in poverty in PA. The graft linked shows that its gone down by nearly 1% in my neck of the woods, though….
I spent so much money trying to save mine, I just use the excuse that I’m Irish and it’s genetic. Of course, somewhere between saving them and losing them, I lost the money to fix them.
I did find that salt water rinses and peroxide rinses are your friend.
Maybe if a Tea Bagger got roughed up outside Liberty Plaza in NY there might be MSM coverage of what’s going on.
Ya know, like if roving bands of gay toughs were beating up straights in Walnut Creek–wow, there’d be a story to cover!
just like a weather micro-climate.
i did those too…. they really bought me more time
Bush’s cave to the God People on stem cell research certainly slowed miracle cures down, along with BigPharm & a bunch of big disease charities who don’t want to surrender their greed to improving mortality in this country….
sunny
My day was ok but the whole political situation make me want to puke.
I believe the election is a farce.
One of the best lines in TV history.
mom being here visiting has forced me to take a break from politics and news… i’m probably better off for it but i do hate that not knowing feeling.
evening, firegods
I’m hanging on dearly like everyone else…
This guy is quite good, amazing range, and it feels perfect at around the 1:20 mark.
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
when i closed my eyes, i cudda swore it was freddy
Rinses and ridiculously obsessive brushing do buy time, but man, if it’s fated to be, it’s just fated to be. Mine kept breaking. And I was homeless just as they were really starting to go bad on me. By the time I could afford to go to a dentist, I had a mouthful of mess that was better off pulled. I do still have most of my lower teeth, and can even eat corn on the cob without wearing the uppers. I’m trying hard to save the lower ones.
But doesn’t god give us the “smarts” to use stem cells?
The lost opportunities and lost lives because of it really piss me off.
I say that anyone who fought against stem cell transplant, just doesn’t get to benefit. Therefore, they are not going against their own principles and the rest of us can benefit.
Well, the Fox crowd booed a gay vet for asking Santorum if he’d undo the abolition of DADT.
Santorum said he’d reinstate DADT, and the fucker who never spent a second in the military let alone combat never even thanked the gay vet for his service…
If you go through Sorkin’s television resumé, he has a number of them to his credit.
fucker *spitting*
If I ate corn on the cob right now, or even an artichoke, I wouldn’t have any upper teeth left. Well, I can cut the corn off the cob, after it’s cooked and eat it, but I think I’d rather have an artichoke.
I have an upper partial myself, but I refuse to use that sealer gunk to keep what’s got a bit loose tight enough to chomp on sticky desserts and other things….
How can folks stand that paste?
I’d like to have seen Santorum say it to his face or even have the booers face him… GOP Debate Audience Members Boo Gay Solider
i switched to the zinc free and its a lot better. still, i hate that glue crap that stick to the gums when ya take the plate out… stuff is gross — but not as gross as that pink zinc based shit i was using
And let’s be serious. If a fetus could feel pain, it would commit suicide during its ride down the birth canal.
I was told not to use a paste, can’t remember why though.
You know that many people still have no access to medical care. The number who have no access to dental care is, I think, much, much bigger. What a sorry country this has become. I know that people make fun of the ‘waiting for superman’ meme, but really, I think that anyone with real leadership ability is called for. Call me stupid, but I sure wish there would be a JFK or an LBJ or a Clinton who’d for god’s sake step up. Obama is just such an empty suit.
100..?
happy lucky 100 dearie!!!
Congrats, Dearie…! ;-)
i started out with the stuff the dentist gave me and switched after i found out about the zinc problems associated with zinc tooth glue.
Dearie smacks up against 100!
Gluing them into place always kicks in my gag reflex, and it gets ugly quickly. I don’t see how people can use the stuff.
Love it…..but nothin’ is gonna top taking the 500 at TBogg’s recent slugfest!
i have to glue.. my gag reflex gets triggered if it moves in the slightest…
See, this is what I’m talking about. So much experience with false teeth and so little discussion.
I feel better.
that’s such a rare one…. bookoo bragging rights on that tbogg 500
FDL is my first sandbox, but I also love the rude pundit and Pharyngula. I just can’t get enough of the snark, I guess.
we used to talk teeth all the time back when i was getting mine pulled (spread out over a year) and then getting the plate and adjusting to that. i’m so glad the discussion came back up again tonight.
My Dad had a disgusted habit of taking his upper dentures out of his mouth to lick away bits of food that were irritating him at meals.
I remember thinking I’d never lose any teeth because of that.
I guess age changed all that….
I seem to recall TRex hitting 500 a couple of times…when he would dare the lurkers to decloak.
oh yuck….
500 is rarefied air indeed…! ;-)
Thanks for your experience with teeth guys. I’m going for new top teeth in the next couple weeks. I need hugs.
I miss TRex!!
i’ve hit 400 or higher before too.. i think jane had a thread that went over 700 i think — just saying they are rare events
(((tuez)))
I don’t know for sure, but I’m fairly sure I’d do that privately.
Hugs, especially for having to go through the gag of the dentist taking impressions….
{{{hugs}}} *g*
tuez — when does mr t start his job?
Dad was a hard working man, but lacked a certain modesty….
I laughed about the TBogg post because, of course, TBogg didn’t give a damn. Which is also why I find the rude pundit such a hoot. He doesn’t give a thought to what anyone thinks and does not allow comments. I love that! And I thought of the pearl-clutchers on TBogg’s slugfest decrying people being mean to Ralph Nader……if they read a post by rude pundit they’d be screaming, “Oh, he talks dirty! I’m taking my ball(s) and going home!”
::hugs:: It will turn out to be a good thing, and not just long term. Not being in pain is a wonderful thing!
i love attaturk’s early morning posts…
Ralph likes him some Sarah Palin. Makes me wonder if he ain’t a closet teabagger….
I miss him too…! I followed him when he’d left and went through two incarnations, but, it seems like he just suddenly dropped off the face of the planet…! 8-(
Me too!
I love the early morning posts, too. I have to know what Marion’s having for breakfast!
oh yeah! she has the best breakfasts!!!
Yep, he’s another keeper, for sure.
Have you ever read PZ Myers at Pharyngula? Very interesting nerdy folks. I never comment…..I’m not smart enough to frolic in that pool…..but I enjoy some of the smart snark.
last i heard, he was writing stuff over at raw story. he’s on facebook a lot
i read him occasionally. i’m not smart enough either…. pz sure dishes up some fine snark tho. i follow him on twitter also
sorry to bail early tonight peeps but i’m forking fried. thank you for letting me hang out with ya tonight and i hope to see ya tomorrow night for muppets.
please don’t let my leaving stiffle the conversation and kill the thread.
g’nite all
Larry Flynt Takes Aim At Rick Perry, Offers $1 Million For Information On Sexual Encounters

Hugs! I have some experience with dentures. Hang in there.
Thanks, guys. The upper fronts are still there but that’s it. The lowers are still intact. I hate letting go of what ma nature gave me.
Funny I had no idea one’s lower front teeth are a causality of menopause until a couple of years ago when a dentist told me she was regretting the day that happened to her. I was like, WFT are braces for as a kid, if it all goes to hell later as an adult? Basically any “older” woman with straight lower front teeth has implants or a partial.
Sleep well, Suz. You’ve had a busy week. And hugs to your momma. And, as always, thanks to you for a lovely evening salon.
Night, Suz!
I broke the upper fronts first, some years after they were damaged in a bike accident. The rest of the uppers toppled like dominoes after that. Braces were definitely a waste.
I’m going to bed too. Thanks for all the encouragement. It means a lot.
Sleep well, tuez!
What’s his nom de plume on FB, Suz…?
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
Aloha, Margot…!
