Someone once told me the death penalty was necessary in America to keep the loons from acting out and taking “justice” into their own hands.

But when it goes to the Supreme coathangers, they need a corporate person to vote, since that’s what they see as legitimate.

Apparently the sanctity of life did not apply in this case for the five Republican appointed Catholics on the Supreme Court. I wonder if their parish priests will hesitate to serve them communion this weekend or will they receive dispensation? I don’t think we will be hearing from any of the Ultra Conservative American Bishops today about the failure of the Catholic Supremes to support life and the teachings of the church by allowing the execution of Troy Davis. I wonder if at my church this weekend we will be praying against the State sanctioned killing machine.
Its beyond hypocrisy and belief that you can get the scorn of the American Catholic Bishops for being a candidate that supports a woman’s reproductive rights but there is no condemnation for standing by while the poor and underrepresented are executed by the State machine of justice. I guess they have forgotten about Jesus’ execution by Pontius Pilate and Rome. Or maybe they think a woman’s womb is so much more interesting.
There are actually six Catholics all together on the court,but I’d like to think Sotomayer voted for a stay.

In “A Few Words With Iran’s President” Mr. Kristof says an interview with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran includes some testy moments and an unusual olive branch. Ms. Collins asks “What Would Willow the Cat Do?” She says Congress sure has been busy since it raised the debt ceiling. Lots to talk about there. But, first, how about that cat from Colorado being found in New York?

I knew that about the phonies that call themselves pro life but then deny food to the poor, shelter for the homeless, protection for children, but I was holding out hope for once that perhaps the Catholic Church would rise to the occassion. While the Pope called for the execution to stop I checked the websites of the Archdioceses
of Denver, St. Louis, Philadephia and Los Angeles to see if they had any statements. None . Silence. Blustery Bill Donohue of the self appointed Catholic League did not even write one word of outrage.

If you want anything from the Catholic church other than hypocrisy, torture, greed, enslavement, cruelty, misogyny, rape and buggery you are wishful thinking.

Listening to Paul Callan on CNN state how oh so many smart judges looked at this case and agreed that Davis was guilty. Two thoughts come to my mind. One, my experience in Court yesterday where the Court ignored the rules, ignored the law and ruled against me and my client. And the 50,000 men who died in Vietnam because the best and the brightest determined that fighting the war was a way to protect America. The path to hell is truly paved with good intentions by people who are allegedly the most intelligent and know what’s best.

So, the new deal…which is really the old deal, the way it always was and always will be…reads like this: we the state and the fed, can kill whoever we want for what ever reason deemed necessary. We can rationalize said deaths in whatever way we choose, whether it be to avenge 9/ll deaths with more deaths, or to kill a black man because a police officer is dead and we need someone to die for it. Our reasons for killing are correct, and righteous, simply because we say so. Now, be good people and obey our laws…do as we say, not as we do.

It looks like MSNBC fired Al Sharpton from its 6pm spot yesterday, for leaving to assist in the Troy Davis case. When I saw Sharpton last night on the special 6pm edition of Democracy Now!, broadcast live from Death Row in Georgia, I switched over to MSNBC to check to see if his own show was simulcasting. No such luck, in fact, his name had been removed from hosting the listing, though it still listed Cenk Uygur as host (though he’s been gone for weeks).

MSNBC then found that they were being compared with the furthest Right-wing troglodytes on the political scene – I don’t mean the Rick Perry camp – the KKK and the Obama Democrats. So, MSNBC had to change their plans and cover the execution live, even though it looked like they were trying to cover it up just a few hours earlier, when they fired Sharpton for reporting on it.

If you did not think the killing of Davis was an injustice yet here’s a good read for you. Two officers, beat and kill a mentally ill man. They will face charges of second degree murder and manslaughter, thus not being eligible for the death penalty. The dealth penalty is reserved for people of color, the mentally ill and Casey Anthony. That alone should be reason to get rid of this barbaric practice.

What I can’t get over is that a last ditch effort was made to appeal to the US Supreme Court. You cannot get a bigger group of “sadist” anywhere then on that Supreme Court. That court is a joke and everyone knows it. If term limits were ever need it is here.

We live in a vicious country and its getting worse. I become more afraid each year of the people I live with here. Last night the previous warden of that Georgia prison made a statement that he is “suffering” now from participating in the executions when he was Warden. He said that other Wardens from prisons in other states are making the same claim and together they sent an appeal for clemency in support of Mr Davis. They were hoping to save a life to rectify what they have done in the past. The Warden stated that we are surrounded by “sadists” who we are getting into leadership positions. He believes we need to end the death penalty now.
