  • A better line is refusing to cut Medicare.
  • But demonizing the poor is just fine.
  • More scenes from the Texas Miracle.
  • All eyes on Bernanke.
  • A hint: because they’re bloodthirsty assholes?

More like Gulliver’s Travels where all of the learned men travel around the world living in a land up in the clouds (e.g. far from grounded in reality).

Feds are thinking raising prices will stimulate the economy. Certainly the purchase of some pointy farm implements!

At the risk of stating the obvious — or something that has been written over and over — Barry wants to separate himself from Catfood II, while doing everything in his power to direct (behind the scenes) Catfood II, on cuts to SS and whatever else they come up with.

The argument will be that he was a victim again. Powerless.

Chris Hayes had a great quip on his new show this weekend which I wish I’d jotted down at the time. Something akin to: rich people pay fox people to tell middle class people to hate poor people.

You wonder how people vested in division and hate can look themselves in the mirror in the morning.

If you click on the MyFDL link in the top blue bar (not at the top of your window, the one next to “Home”) you bring up a list of MyFDL diaries, newest first. Caturday goes up around noon or early afternoon, and should appear near the top of the list. Or look up SouthernDragon (search window top right of most FDL pages) and click on Diaries.

At first, I thought this CBS News summary meant we won two out of three:

As a result, it includes no changes in Social Security and no increase in the Medicare eligibility age, which the president had been willing to accept this summer.

But then, just a few grafs later, there was this:

$580 billion in cuts in mandatory benefit programs, including $248 billion in Medicare and $72 billion in Medicaid and other health programs. Other mandatory benefit programs include farm subsidies.

Nobody seems to be in the mood to talk numbers this morning, but those am some ugly cuts. I know Dday & others have explained many ways to cut $25B per year out of Medicare provider payments (incl. negotiating Rx drug costs), without hurting actual medical care for actual patients, but can they cut Medicaid the same way, without reducing eligibility or health care?

Yes, blue. FDL, PCCC, other allies can immediately claim credit for stopping preznit from destroying the few remaining planks of the Democratic Party platform. Preznit fought stubbornly & selfishly to destroy Medicare & Social Security, to serve his oligarch owners. But we deliberately and systematically drove down his approval ratings and ratcheted up his negatives for nine months and hounded the hell out of Super-Congress freaks. (Grassroots rebellions sprang up in the GOP, also, so we can’t claim all the credit.)

We need to rinse and repeat.

Put this comment up at EW’s on September 8th… It applies here just as well with regards to Mitch McConnell’s silence or rather, sin of omission.

We were watching a PBS Frontline special last night, The Nature of Evil and Religion. The content was challenging and brought a great deal of dialogue into our home. Our daughter-of-klynn then heard the debate response replayed as you note above.

She jumped right on how this debate moment could be added to the Frontline special. She asked many questions about eternity and how does God (for Christains) judge those in power. She asked, “If someone uses their power in multiple ways to deny an innocent person justice, is that not a systemic spiritual problem within that politician? If someone uses their power from a number of angles to kill an innocent person, does that fall into a state of unforgivable action because the first act of using political power would be forgiven but the other acts would be ‘cheap grace’? And if you then use your action of murder to further establish your political power (bragging about your execution rate) is that pretty much a full embrace of eternity in hell — if you are a Christain, which Perry claims to be? From the perspective of eternal opportunity would this not be a kind of a “had your chance and you muffed it,” spiritual moment for Perry? This is all the more reason to not listen to him or follow his lead. To cheer him is to embrace his walking further away from faith.”

“Perhaps the heat and fires in Texas are just a primer for Perry’s eternal destination,” she quipped while noting what is going on in Texas is very serious and that it would not be her choice as a leader of a state to cut fire department budgets by 75%…
