Good morning, BT and Firepups. I beat the bomber again, I think!
Good morning all.
First segment on democracynow: Former Senator Bob Graham asks for reopening 9/11 investigation owing to discovery that FBI had covered up role of Saudi couple living in FLA, with ties to hijackers. Graham is guest.
1) I sure hope they’re right about Perry losing the general. From around here, I think Dem turnout is going to be severely depressed. But I’m sure it’s not because of Obama, it’s just that they scheduled the election on hairwashing day.
2) Greece will not be rescued. We should be planning to deal with the default.
3)I think Obama is still confused that he’s not getting any GOP support for all the moves to the right he’s made. Yes, I DO think he’s that stupid.
4) Interesting that the field is so full of minor league players who think Washington is clueless and that Warren is just another DC tool.
5) I encourage all GOPers to join Paul’s medical plan. The rest of us will take our business elsewhere.
Boxturtle (Is it wrong of me to hope that Paul catches something expensive, incurable and uncovered?)
expensive and uncovered and very, very public.
i don’t want it to be incurable, though.
but i didn’t say it shouldn’t HURT.
on edit. sorry again for my bad manners. good morning pupses and thank you BT.
Oh, that’ll happen. Right after we reopen the Anthrax letter investigation.
Boxturtle (Too much money, too many connections, too many embarassing answers)
Graham’s new novel Keys to the Kingdom is a thinly veiled attempt to reveal some of what’s in the censored chapter about the Saudis in the 9/11 report. Sounds juicy.
40% is nonfiction with names changed, 40% is fiction, 20% is blend.
Fixed it for you.
Far more revealing than “democracy now” could ever be is this documentary about the BAE connection.
Graham is pushing against the official story for whatever reasons?
Doesn’t it frustrate you though when all these past administration people come out with books containing information that they should have pushed harder to have disclosed to the public during the particular investigation or event?
This has been another episode of simple As to simple Qs. *g*
On edit: Graham was one of the more responsible senators back in the day when there were still one or two. And he better be careful for his life given the book he’s written.
I need simple this morning :)
I smell goat. Oh, I forgot to wash my hands. brb
Frustrate, no. Infuriate, yes.
Where the hell were these people when they could have spoken up and made a difference?
Boxturtle (Oh, yeah, I remember. They were in some corporations pocket)
Second segment on dn: Guatamala. Melina won first round of prez elections. He’s a general with big human rights abuses in his past. Sigh.
I smell goat. Oh, I forgot to wash my hands. brb
Too much information.
Boxturtle (Some professional comedians go their entire lives without a setup line like that. Next?)
Sometimes they need people to catch up so that they can draw on popular support before risking a knife fight practically alone.
They were up the same a$$ as the guy, dang I can’t think this morning, someone lately who had seen or heard some really important information and rather than disclosing it when it could have made a difference recalled that – well, then I had a more adult reaction – and basically just covered it up.
Anything to oblige, dear.
But that’s all I got….. :)
He pushed hard for Saudi chapter to be released at the time. Also, just learned of Saudi couple in Sarasota who prolly helped the hijacker pod in FL and who may be related to Saudi royals. The existence of that couple in FL was withheld by FBI. Didn’t catch how it came to know recently.
Mornin’, BT, pups
They see Warren – despite being a first-time candidate – as not only the favorite of partisan organizations such as the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, but also inside-the-Beltway fund-raising groups such as EMILY’s List.
Well, shit, so much for Warren. I wonder if her campaign staff are the same ol’ neoliberal consultants and advisers. Oh, well, have to look elsewhere for somebody willing to take on the status quo.
Good morning BT and pups,
Anyone know how the Webinar (sp?) went last night. We had company so I did not even get the password to participate. Thanks in advance for the answer.
Brilliant election strategy by Melina. Creates all kinds of violence, including drug trade. So country wants an iron fist to restore order, and that’s the platform he runs on.
Kinda like wreck and bankrupt the country, impoverish most everyone and then run on a let’s fix government platform?
It went really well. Most of the info can be found at fairvote.org. Best attended webinar so far according to Jane. Discussion centered around Instant Runoff Voting and variants. I really like the idea of larger districts with multiple reps for proportional representation.
Good morning SD and all the pups. I think the only place where the status quo is going to be taken on is in the streets. We in a real downward spiral. A couple of months ago I suggested to friends in France that we were two-thirds of the way to fascism. I now put it at three-fourths. I’m seeing a lot more T-Party stickers on cars now when I drive in the states.
I can’t even get into that one. I’ll close my eyes & cover my ears until it’s over & see if it turns out to be another Lucy/football thing.
Exactly. Only a bankster knows how to fix the banks. Gah.
Don’t assume that. The folks saying that have their own reasons for saying it. But DO keep it in mind. If we’d listened to the folks saying things like that about Obama, we’d be better off now.
Boxturtle (or maybe not)
Morning BT & Pups of Fire:
Previewing Warren vs. Brown.
Guess who Senator Jagoff Brown works for? (Hint: It ain’t his constituents.) Almost forgot. The “Retired” line should be “Retarded.” Apparent typo.
And then there’s this.
In hawk to his corporate masters, right out of the gate.
I just ordered the Can’t be Neutral on a Moving Train book by Zinn. It will be my first by him. You have had so many intriguing comments about him that I finally got off my virtual youknowwhat and ordered one.
I had hopes but they obviously didn’t last long. If she indeed does have the support of DSCC that’s the end as far as I’m concerned. That means her staff will be Third Way apparatchiks.
Thank you again SD, I will check it out after the swim this morning.
I don’t keep track of all the details, just what seem to be the most plausible explanations. The answer always seems to get back to the MIC / Oligarchy. The rest seems to be bread & circuses.
Here’s an overview: http://www.larouchepac.com/bae911
Having been anti-O from the start, I can assure you it was impossible to reveal him accurately to his supporters. No matter how much evidence there was (FISA vote, Lieberman as mentor, economics team to name but 3 biggies, not to mention Street’s book revealing O’s financiers).
Let us know what you think about it.
Anything about actual implementation? Need to make the leap from discussion to implementation.
No one covering the 24hr airing of Al Gore’s Climate Reality?
Huh! Interesting to see this statement in the “No one could have predicted” piece
Republicans taunted Reid both on and off Twitter for not acting on any of the many jobs plans passed by House Republicans this year.
Really? Republicans passed jobs proposals? Really? Which proposals are they referring to? Do they mean the “Let’s lower taxes and de-regulate everything” types of proposals? ‘Cause I’m sure not aware of any jobs-creating proposals!
I have to agree. People won’t fill the streets until it hits 100% and they see what’s happened cuz it’ll finally affect them personally instead of people they don’t know.
msmolly, I missed your comment somehow. I’m slower than usual this morning and need you to explain that intriguing ‘beat the bomber’.
I know I’m going to feel really dumb, but, what the hey.
Time and a lot of hard work, my friend. I’m hoping Jane puts the slide show up in a post. Some cities have some variant of proportional rep and others are working on it.
Oh, here’s gonna be her supporters’ response. “Well, she needs an infrastructure and donations to run her campaign, but she’ll still be her independent self and stand up for real people after she’s elected. She has to get elected first before she can do any good.”
As I said, GAH.
OMG, 4,500 bodies have been exhumed in Guatemala. Most suspected to be those of the disappeared. Using tools developed after 9/11 to identify bones.
Our daily blog whore.
Fed up. Changed my avatar. No prisoners.
er, I really don’t understand that..
Very cool. Good on Gore. As soon as it floats above the radar, the MSM will start hammering him. The MSM should start planning on doing their NY cable “news” (sic) shows from a rowboat. They’re gonna need it. Fuckin’ idiots.
And speaking of corporate tools, CNN has taken a decided hard-right turn in the past several months. Yes, they’ve always been “center-right,” but it now appears they’re shamelessly going after a big, juicy bit of some delicious FoxPAC market share.
“And keep your stinkin’ gubmint hands off my Medicare, goddammit…”
I’m hoping Jane puts the slide show up in a post.
Yup. Bring it.
Other than repressing the opposition voters, I thought you were talking about WI Fitzwalkerstan.
There’s a commenter who’s been coming here every morning and leaving a comment with a link to his blog, usually manages to post the first comment.
I haven’t read anything lately about the recall, are they still working on a Walker recall? WI is amazing.
If you go back to prior swims, you’ll find one of the first posts to most of them is from heycoachb. He drops a link to his blog and goes away. He’s allowed to blogwhore once and he takes advantage of that. I’ve never visited his blog, have no idea if it’s worthwhile or not. Don’t like his bombing and running away, so I ignore him.
Boxturtle (Attn Admins: It would be really nice if we could have personal killfiles)
I do feel dumb. Got it, thank you :)
We had thunderstorms all night. I love them and had the bedroom doors open to the screened porch, but Charlie kept racing around and Harles was scared and drooled. Then I think I heard a rabbit or some other small animal get dispatched not too far away…
Mayhaps enough folks flagged him that he got 86′d. Went to it when he first posted. Lame.
Yes, I didn’t even notice that he wasn’t here. I thought SD had called me or msmolly a bad name for a minute.
By the time you leave you’ll be sleepin’ like a log at night and when you get back home you’ll have trouble sleeping without the familiar night sounds.
Hmmmph, now I’m deeply ohffended. *g*
Recalling Walker means recalling the former teevee personality talking head Lt Gov Kleefich (sp). There is a whole raft of repug state Senators who become eligible for recall having put a year of, “public service,” in. Strategy I read yesterday might be easier to topple a couple of the worst offenders in that chamber pot.
I wonder how long it will be before we learn who Elizabeth Warren’s advisors are indeed going to be.
You guys certainly aren’t afraid of an extended fight. Hats off to you.
Chamber pot! Good one, nonqui.
DKos is all agahgah over Warren. For now I’d say they’re the go-to place for inside skinny on Warren. They’ll be touting her staff.
Second verse: She’s better than Scott Brown.
Third verse (after she loses): Well she was a very weak candidate.
ok. Surely she of all people won’t surround herselves with the wolves.
on edit: No, not fair to wolves. The vultures that have been picking the bones of main street. Not fair to vultures either.
I agree with that strategy. Control the state senate and they can stop the fascist policies from getting passed.
They’re the ones with the money. Far as wolves go I’d rather hang out with wolves than politicians.
BTW, I got a return email from Toby Wollin and she came thru the floods OK. (She lives near Binghamton for those who don’t know.)
I changed that, after I read it.
Turkey vulture sat on top of one of my bird houses for 15 min yesterday while I was reading, looking for prey. With binoculars, I could just make out his bare head.
Gotta go pick up friend Joe from the medical center after having a colonoscopy this mornin’.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Glad she is ok. That is a beautiful little town but as I recall it is in a pretty well-defined valley.
The webinar was very interesting, kinda wonkish and low key, about different kinds of voting other than our two-party, winner-take-all system. Jane usually posts the Webinar so those who missed it can see/hear, so watch for that.
It was interesting to me that the Chairperson of the group is the former bassist with the grunge band Nirvana. I never listened to Nirvana but I did recognize the name! How far some of these people come as they mature!
By the way, I circled back to Swim yesterday and noticed your comment about your daughter’s Dec. 26th birthday. It was exactly the same at our house: not a smidgen of Christmasy (NO red or green) wrapping. We went out of our way to make it distinctly different for the birthday, but it was still kinda all blurred together.
Over 3 million people watching Al Gore’s Climate Reality, right now!
Sherrod Brown was wonderful on CNN this AM.
Been Lurking. Morning All
In reponse to the wish for Paul to die a painful death, or however that was phrased…isn’t that kind of the opposite of the Golden Rule?
Kind of a negative vibe in the pool.
Maybe I should have stayed in bed.
Somebody used it yesterday (SD maybe?) to refer to that “heycoachb” person who often posts the very first comment at Swim with a blogwhore to his own blog. I don’t see a post this morning from him.
Hey Molly. I saw that too. Same thing at this house, as SonnyBoy’s b day is Dec 23. Try as I do to make it bday only, inevetably, there’s usually a glimpse of a xmas tree in the background in the photos. Sometimes we go out to avoid that. :)
Walker is back-tracking verbally about his promise to create jobs, his former Milwaukee County COS had her house raided by the FBI and a couple of computers were likely confiscated, (I think using county time, computers and personnel for electioneering for governor is what is being investigated) this right after she (Cynthia A Archer) was given a $99K position under Walker for a formerly $66K position. What’s new.
nonq(I was fortunate enough at about age six to figure out that lying just made it harder to remember all the details).
They are really big when you get up close. Ugly, but impressive design. We’d be in trouble without them.
Take care, SD.
p.s. your old avatar was pretty take no prisoners, too. I liked it better.
He’s another one who’s all talk, no action.
That was yesterday for me. Was really disappointed yesterday by the rudeness of a few elsewhere (Not Swim). The worst part was that the rudeness was veiled in a righteous attitude which made them think they had the right to be rude.
She’s a Facebook friend and I was getting regular updates. Glad she’s OK.
Gore was invisible during the Gulf oil disaster and the nuke meltdown in Japan. Just another RWM playing at his “cause.”
Is he still fat, or is he planning to run for something?
Aha. I don’t do facebook.
Now it seems so obvious what you had written but it just went over my pointy head this a.m. :)
Then I thought SD had called us names :)
Please be patient with me!
Right K, that’s how it’s done. And, then to take the sting off, (not), sometimes a little *g* is added.
But, what hasn’t been explained is the Bomber name is used because they refer to him as coming to drop a turd bomb and then leaving.
Just to be perfectly clear.
A PS on edit, I read your comment about the coyotes and the crystal stars and was amazed at your writing. You’re good. You.
Sark’s doing his victory lap in Libya. What?! No aircraft carrier, no MISSION ACCOMPLISHED sign????
hahahaha, that makes it pretty clear!
I didn’t get any *g*’s.
I was told I was being “politically correct.”
There is a difference between political correctness and thoughtfulness.
After that one order “A power Governments cannot Suppress” Real insight in how to change the course of things. And of course there’s A Peoples History. Sorry he is my favorite author.
Yuppers. I get called “names” from time to time, too.
I hope you realize it’s more of a reflection of them than of you.
And speaking of *g*’s….Good Morning Big G!
Oh, please don’t apologize, I am happy that you made the suggestions. Thanks for them :)
I was disappointed because calling someone’s insight or suggestion “politically correct” when it is simply thoughtfulness, is a tactic TPers and the GOP use when they want to change the tone IRT discussion on the greater good, racism or entitlements.
The lack of professionalism was astounding.
I think I’ll put the “Power Govts Can’t Suppress” on my wishlist. I haven’t been reading nearly as much as I used to, and need to wean myself off lurking here quite so much and getting back to the books.
Do you find yourself spending more and more time online? It is hard to resist.
It’s been very intersting to watch human behaviour at this site.
Back when we were making phone calls to congress, I think it might have been about the FISA vote, there were some who were complaining that they were getting hung up on. I suggested a strategy of being civil, creating an atmosphere where the person taking the message would want to listen to the comment, question, suggestion. Oh, did I get an earful over that. Many thought that being nice was asking Way too much.
Meh. You can lead a horse to water…
Many thought that being nice was asking Way too much
That is really disappointing. Your approach was the right one, for so many reasons.
Good mornin Demi, I feel special that you initiated a comment to me. I love the way you guys think and this is the first place I go everyday. Being retired at 57 and home alone during the day this blog keeps me sane. :)
I remember that blog moment.
You’re right…you can’t make it drink…
Hope you have a great day demi.
I spend the first couple of hours online then read until I pick up my daughter from school and take care of her. Then I read here until I retire for the night. I try to read as much as possible. I have all but given up the TV.
You just made me smile with that comment. Thank you for posting it.
You are special! I’m 59 and sort of retired too, not being able to find a job. And, even the uncomfortable times here give me pause and make me think and try to learn something. It sure as hell beats watching daytime television.
You do? What an incredible memory you have.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
I just wish I was retired because I couldn’t find a job. I am retired because I am disabled. I hate to bring that up cause i don’t want to use that as an excuse but it makes it hard for me to join protests and activities in the streets.
Kinda like the approach I use with my teen, works more often than not, even if there is a slight delay in my point registering in her brain. After the drama princess, first reaction (to anything I say) I leave it alone and usually get a positive response after a bit of time.
It is such a good resource and the site has grown to include so many diaries on diverse subjects. You truly could spend an entire day here. I don’t even know how to turn our tv on. It has at least 3 remotes. I’m sure it isn’t that hard, but I have no interest in it. In the evening we will often watch our local PBS station or look for some nature program, but that is about it. What a wasteland. Fortunately we both are avid readers so nights at our house are pretty quiet.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
I mean every word of it, you guys are special and after posting for almost a year I feel accepted into your family. I realize there are a lot of trolls and people who disrupt the threads and it never hurts to be sure whether the person is sincere or not. I hope I have passed that test. :)
Yes something for everyone and you could spend an entire week and not keep caught up.
And, the same to you. Spread the smiles.
I hear you on that. I lurked at EW’s and then here for a long time. My first comment here was on one of Christy’s posts. She took so much time to respond to my question and noticed I was a new poster. EW’s place was so nice too. bmaz started teasing me right out of the block. Marcy and MadDog welcomed me with such nice comments and orders to not be a stranger. So to pass on their thoughtfulness…
popeye99 there’s no test to pass…Just don’t be a stranger!
You know that’s right. Experience and time prove the best way to deal with stuff.
It is always a pleasure to see your moniker pop up, popeye :)
There are many ways to serve the cause. Most organizations need people to make phone calls or emails. You may want to check that out. It was nonquixote who lifted up the idea that I check out a way to do volunteer work, and that’s worked out well for me.
Harles is seriously het up about something so I’m going out to investigate. Cold, windy and wet here….
best to you all from…..
Om Ali…There’s a progression. From Lurker to Commenter to Diary Poster. With your excellent writing abilites, thoughtfulnes and sense of humor, I’m awaiting your first diary with eagerness. (No rush though. No pressure from me.) Ha.
I love the way this swim winds down. Thanks.
OT maybe should save this for caturday, but I’m usually not around for those. Mine took only one bit of milk in the saucer while I was pouring some into my coffee a year ago, to make the connection with the coffee pot, the refrigerator door or me walking to the kitchen with my favorite mug. She wakes from a dead snore and peeks her head around the corner each and every time.
Best to all, off to work.
A happy and productive day to you, sweetie.
Are you still at MEND, demi? Last I heard you were “kicked upstairs” and not liking that as well.
And how’s the leg? Pretty much healed?
And let me add, I love the Swim threads. As SD put it a couple of weeks ago, it’s like all of us crowding up to the biggest booth in the diner and chatting over morning coffee/tea.
Not “upstairs” anymore. I was supposed to start back in the kitchen last week, but, but, but the ankle business. It’s healing very well, but I’m still on the meds and have to take it slow. Called in sick to the Food Director last night for today. He told me to heal completely and if I can’t work, I should at least come in and have lunch with him. He said he’s really going to need me for xmas. I bet it gets pretty hectic there.
Thanks, I enjoy reading your posts. You have a keen insight. I agree you should write a diary. I would but I am not that good of a writer.
I have volunteered to work at NPA doing computer work. I haven’t been instructed yet as to what to do. But I am available.
Thanks when I feel I have something to offer I will speak. I am late to the game. I have come out of a fundamentalist Republican mindset so it will take me a while to get up to speed. I do know that Obama needs to be primaried or defeated at any cost. We can’t afford 4 more years of this Trojan horse.
Perfect. Good for you. I’ve learned that I have to really be my own advocate. You can’t just sit back and wait for them to contact you.
PS – What’s NPA. I’m sure I probably should know.
Now see? Writing a diary about your Transformation would be a great read, and you don’t have to be Howard Zinn to write that.
I can’t write either. However, I wrote one diary and it was very well recieved by many respected commenters. Write one. It will be OK.
Wasn’t that a wonderful image he painted?
Hey, Peaches. Is it cooling down there?
National Progressive Alliance Anthony Noel is the coordinator. He posts here sometimes. http://www.npa.org.
I’m scared. LOL Maybe I will some late night when I am feeling good about it.
Off to read and get off this foot. Take care and we’ll hook up later.
Have a great day. :)
Judge Says Hedge Funds May Have Used Inside Information
There have long been whispers on Wall Street that hedge funds have hijacked the bankruptcy process, using their influence as debt holders to obtain and trade on insider information about when and how a company will restructure.
A federal court ruling highlighted such concerns late Tuesday when a judge raised the possibility that four large hedge funds might have used confidential information to trade in the debt of Washington Mutual.
The issue was raised amid the derailment of Washington Mutual’s emergence from bankruptcy protection, the final chapter in the largest bank failure in the nation’s history.
Judge Mary F. Walrath, in dismissing a proposed settlement in the federal bankruptcy court in Delaware, wrote that four hedge funds that had played a role in Washington Mutual’s restructuring might have received confidential information that could have been used to trade improperly in the bank’s debt.
