St. Petersburg Ska Jazz Review — Too Good To Be True.
What’s on your mind?
Zed… zed zed on my mind
well done wmd — how ya doing tonight?
let me entertain you
I have just reminded myself that I’m a broken record. Here’s a post I made four years ago on another site that I quit visiting soon thereafter. I found it while looking at all the rubbish on my hard drive.
How should we “support the troops”?
1) Bring them home.
2) Get them out of uniform. Allow the National Guard to go back to their civilian lives. Cut the military budget. Cut the size of the standing military. Close 720 overseas military bases. Decommission 12 aircraft carriers.
3) Treat their wounds. Test them for depleted uranium poisoning. Make sure the disabled vets have the best care we can give them. Universal health coverage would be a good start.
4) Ease their transition to civilian life. Make sure they have access to free, quality higher education and job training, so they have a good chance at a good job. While we are at it, make sure it is available to everyone else as well.
5) Raise taxes on the wealthy to pay for these programs (bearing in mind the enormous savings from the military budget) and balance the Federal budget. This will give a huge boost to the economy.
6) Make sure they have good jobs available. Enhance their collective bargaining rights. Require corporations that want to sell in the US to provide jobs in the US.
7) Create vast numbers of good new jobs performing the transformation of American society from an unsustainable easy-motoring suburban pipe dream to a sustainable, human-centric nation running on renewable energy. Work with private business where possible, use direct government action where necessary.
8) Make sure they have a healthy environment to live in and raise their families in.
9) Institute election reform to make sure their votes count, and that never again can Fascists steal the highest offices in the land.
hey dave — how was your day?
*heh* An Old School zedding…! ;-)
Aloha, Suz, wmd, and lln pups…!
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Good old George.
I’m doing well.
Rings even truer today…!
Manhattan Transfer – Ray’s Rock House
it don’t come easy
Gorgeous day today, Suz, with brisk trades to keep it cool too…! Got a call today asking if I can do a 4 nite shift up top later this month too…! ;-)
ooooh i like that dave
Moderately groovy. I am continuing my winterization push. Made it to yoga. Flexibility good, balance OK, endurance still below par. It will take a while to get back in the swing of things. I missed like five weeks in a row.
sweet.. a doubly good day dood
no no no no
Congrats on the call, CT. Nice to have work.
i’ve been offline most of the day — got up way before the crack of noon and headed over hear to jen’s so i could grammy sit jujube tonight. when she gets sleepy, she’s a real little talker, cooing and squealing and laughing, just like her mom did when she was a little girl… she always had one more thing to tell me before bedtime
so…. what kinda fuckery went on today?
Not for the Better Half, tho…! The little Momma moved into their new 2 bedroom apt. today…! She’s already got a serious case of ‘Empty Nest’ blues…! 8-(
Quit spewing your socialist, communist, marxist, nazi rubbish. This is a family site.
U R corrupting the children.
hey tuez — how was your day?
it was 6 forking weeks since the last time i saw jujube… 6 forking weeks! i’m gonna get kicked outta grammy school
New Primus makes me want to go watch Sabata.
Aloha, Dearie…! You bet, especially, when I’d almost wrote off any prospects for this month…!
hey dearie — how’s the south central ca coast tonight?
My husband has a second interview on Friday, so that’s good.
He got a call to go in tomorrow to fill out an app after sending an email solicitation to another company this morning.
All of which is encouraging.
hey hannibal — how ya doing tonight?
Didn’t watch the video, sorry, didn’t read most of the comments but I was about to fall down and go Thud and thought I would stop by and say Howdy.
Gotta get up at the butt crack of dawn and drive half way across the state and back again, smooches baby.
fingers and toes crossed tuez
hey busted — *smooches back atcha* now go g’thud and give my best to mrs busted dood
I’m lucky to see the baby-boys almost weekly, but my Montana babies I only get to see several times a year. And, oh, they grow up so fast.
So did ya take some new Jujube pics to tide ya over…? ;-)
Positive vibes to your husband through the wires.
she’s 5 months old, rolling over front to back and back to front and is really into grabbing things … and then dropping them. she’s doing some minor scooting on her belly and i figure she’s gonna be crawling soon
not yet…. i’ll be sure to snag some tomorrow morning…. i doubt she’s gonna sleep as late i want her to but… after we get up and i’ve got some coffee in me, i’m planning on taking pictures
I have no idea how I’ve managed to keep us in “the black” for the past 10 months. Luck and livin’ right only last so long.
Keep the faith. LLLN folks surely remember my search. Beans and rice are good food.
Mousing with the right hand, playing tug with the dog with my left … multitasking.
Changing it up some more.
That’s what I mean about luck. We haven’t gotten to beans and rice yet, although my husband keeps suggesting we try it. I’m afraid to feed him too many beans with the house all closed up because the AC is on.
Glad I’m not the only one who does that. Except my dog brings her toys to my desk and puts them on top of my mouse.
red beans and rice
I’m spiffy. Happy to see Elizabeth Warren’s running for Senate, saw some video of a lecture she did back in 2007, that woman is damn smart.
Beans are not recommended before interviews.
I’m afraid to feed him too many beans…
Good point, tuez…! ;-)
i worry how much she can do as a senator vs how much she cudda done heading the agency *sigh* am glad to see her making lemonade outta that forking bullshit and have my fingers and toes crossed she beats the snot outta scott brown…
Vanessa Mae – Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor
We can’t have Warren, or anyone else worth a crap, until we fix the Senate.
This is why I support human cloning. We need 99 more Bernie Sanders.
Well, if she’s got any ground game, she won’t have much problem. Brown ran essentially unopposed, since whatshername didn’t bother campaigning, just assumed everybody’d vote for her because she’s a Democrat. From what I’ve heard, Brown has been hiding from his constituents the past year, people remember that sort of thing.
Hopefully there’ll be at least one debate, I look forward to seeing her use him as a chew toy.
Especially since he’s proud of his “tonal” quality.
My husband claims to be able to fart Beethoven’s 5th and a Shave and a Haircut. I can’t hear em but….
this too shall pass
You know why farts smell?
So the deaf can enjoy them too.
the singing butts
Bernie at least needs allies, and Warren, going by what I’ve seen from her, would make a good one. As for the rest, I don’t know, would take some serious muscle to get rid of the dead weight.
Actually, I can hear em, I just don’t hear the “tune”.
No lie, twice in the 16 or 17 years we’ve been hanging out, he’s made me throw up in the car.
NYPD drops a car on a motorcyclist.
Maybe that’s why the silent ones are so deadly…! ;-)
when that feeling gives way
granny school language moderation I see, Don’t want that child to even hear you typing that, :) and how’d you know what I was making for supper Tuesday night?
how do you find this stuff?
Ow ow ow ow ow.
hey nonq — its more like trying to clean up my act when my mom is here next week
how ya doing tonight?
jen got all riled at me when i told her i was going to teach jujube how to say fork
i have no clue… a song lyric pops into my head and off it goes….
ow ow ow ow ow – i don’t even have one and ow ow ow ow
jen got all riled at me when i told her i was going to teach jujube how to say for
Just teach her to say fork in multiple languages. Then you are doing her a favor.
She will always be able to eat.
On edit: fixed the block quote.
Edit 2:Fuck it.
i tried to tell jen that i was planning on teaching her to say knife and spoon too but she wasn’t buying it
Goodnight peeps. Be good to one another.
sometimes it’s an artist for me.
I’m good, thanks, I had four solid hours of manual labor outside today, 88 degrees on Mon and Tuesday’s high was 65, slight chance of frost overnight and I was just out in the full moonlight to throw an old sheet over my basil. I’ll be moving on to bed in a little bit, but got a few winks already in the lounger.
i get that too… it sucks when i can’t remember enough to be able to find what i’m reminded of *and* what i do remember is just enough to be a very frustrating ear worm
my instant summer switch got switched off yesterday. i’ve already gotten down to 40 at night and i expect to be seeing some 30′s soon. got more logs for the stove – i’m gonna be needing them
Suz and everyone, hello! Back from short trip to NM. Beautiful there, beautiful here. I keep falling asleep in my chair. Kiss those baby knees for me, please.
Sucks when YT doesn’t have an appropriate version… This is part of a larger composition by the hammer dulcimer player in earlier link, I wanted a different part, but it was part of a 46 minute piece.
I built a couple of those hammered dulcimers, never learned how to play it because it took forever to tune those 100 or so strings. I taught myself tuning though. :)
hey margot — when did ya get back? i will, i will
They’re amazing instruments.
I’m going to bed. Good night all.
that’s pretty spiffy all by itself dood… wow
I think that building instruments like guitars, ukes, etc. is the epitome of woodworking…! ;-)
Got in Sunday night to Columbus airport, slept there, got a bus in to my town next morning. Brought biscochitos and chile back, and gifts for family. How you all been?
My switch is more like a dimmer switch and gradually gets dialed down. Now that the water around me is warmed up, it usually moderates cooler weather nicely and fall weather usually hangs on before letting go to winter.
been doing ok…. i gotta say, grammy sitting sure has my back aching tonight… all that picking up and putting down and carrying around and playing with on the floor musta aggravated it some. or it could just be because i’m not sitting in my usual computer chair :)
didja have fun?
Careful Suz, the century mark is rapidly approaching…
I thought I knew Mexican food. Apparently I missed a chapter. What are biscochitos?
I’ve done a couple guitars, lap dulcimers and such, also. I’ve done two cold molded, small boats but the details on some traditional small craft have as much appeal to my sensibilities as well.
congrats on snagging the happy lucky 100 dearie!!!
Hi y’all…doing a driveby before falling into bed, too.
So, Suze, you’re still at Jen’s with the bay-bee? Can’t believe she’s 5 mos. old. Where does the time go? Wasn’t it just last week we were doing the live-blog-waiting-for-jujube? (so much pleasanter than the Rethug debate liveblog)
and you’ve got 40-ish 30-ish temps. We are back up to 102 today, with nights back to near 80. Sigh. Dang high pressure back to hang over us.
I think I need to move back north. If I thought I could find a job and find a place to live that would take 3 cats–or 4, since how could I leave the feral I’ve been taming for a year or more?–oh, well. Not gonna happen.
Have to laugh…..my grandbabies are just 3 and weigh maybe 37 pounds each. I’ll be taking care of them for several days next month. My back no longer permits me to lift them easily into their car seats. This weekend I said, ‘Okay, boys, show me how you climb into your car seats!” They did great. Their mama said, “I didn’t know they could do that.”
hey tejan — time sure has flown fast since april 9th – you sure are a smart grammy :) i got jujube to eat her rice cereal from a spoon
Oh I’ll find a recipe, they’re delicious anise Christmas cookies. So rich but so good.
oh fork.. i got my answers to tejan and dearie all mixed up into one
see what happens when i’m up at ten forking thirty in the morning!
Grandmothers are the necessity of invention, for sure.
Oh, like Mexican wedding cookies…………yum. Never heard the term biscochitos before. Thanks for sharing!
I sure did. Visited my friend, my brother and attended high school class reunion. It was in a very nice party room at a casino. What a shock…I’ve never been in a casino before.
I’d never heard of Mexican wedding cookies; I thought they were solely a New Mexican thing!
Now, that’s funny! — 10:30 in the morning. Yep, like that would happen with my grandbabyboys. The lovely thing about the boys is that they are willing to wait a while before getting up. They chit chat across the room to each other and laugh and sing. They are lovely little guys. But 7 a.m. would be late for them to get up……so I have to plan ahead. ‘must get some sleep, must get some sleep…..’
Heh. S’all right. We can separate out the answers ourselves.
Shoot, there was something I wanted to mention….drat, either a senior moment or a falling asleep moment.
Oh..no biggie…just that I went to yoga too tonight. Jeez, it was hard. My shoulders hurt, and every move seemed to take all my energy. Several others had unusual trouble, too.
We blamed sun spots. Or something.
i had to get up early to pack and then drive over here. jen said that jujube got up around 11 today but she was up until 11ish last night. tonight she went down about 930ish…
i’m gonna blame all my aches on all that death porn on the teevee machine all week leading up to the 9/11 anniversary.
*heh* A whole hour and a half early, eh…? A rough life indeedy…! (ducking…)
Hey Margot… and All.
What a shock…I’ve never been in a casino before.
Shocks me every time…… and I’ve been in quite a few.
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight?
Oh, no, we had them at our wedding (oddly enough)here in San Antonio, from a little Mexican bakery.
A tasty enough version, tho not so delicate and tender, used to be commonly available in the grocery store cookie aisle. Lately, it seems most of my fave cookies have disappeared, replaced by exaggerated updated (new! new! new!) versions, like double or triple-stuffed oreos, fig newton thins (!!!), and stuff I can’t even remember.
And re Mexican food, it’s good to keep in mind that different regions of the country call the same food by different names. Chalupas here are tostadas in many other places…a flat, crisp tortilla with toppings like beans, tomatoes and grated cheese, maybe avocado.
And New Mexico is famous for having Mexican food found nowhere else, or versions found nowhere else. Didja have the blue corn tortillas?
Well, Weiner’s seat went Repug….
Before I come up with anymore twisted, “perils of wisdom,” and maybe get myself in trouble, I’m saying a good night and, “peasant dreams,” people. PBS news hour kindly warned us, only 10 mere days until the Repug circus comes to somebodies town again…
Luvs and hugs
OK, I’ll edit the spelling tomorrow.
hey sunny — how ya doing tonight? i just finished reading wicked appetite… tis wicked and i want more
hey robert — how’s sopa tonight?
Hi CT and PPD
Getting Oregon weather day after tomorrow. And fork Halloween….
Not this trip, but I grew up eating them. I wanted tamales and that’s what I got. I have to go back, there are things I didn’t eat!
I’m so glad I was too busy doing pioneer shit to watch TeeVee this week, or internet. Just check in to see if anything blew-up. Nah, just a nuclear facility in France. Make more canned peaches, kill a few more chickens…………..:)
we could use some oregon weather up here — i’ve not had measurable rain since the middle of july
hey openhope — how ya doing tonight?
I are doing Productive. I’m secretly glad to here your grandbaby might be a night owl.
i’ve got my fingers and toes crossed…. :) she really is a good baby
Suz, I just returned it to the library, unread. Ran out of time and it wasn’t renewable. Somehow I’d gotten the idea you had read it earlier.
Guess I need to try again.
Wow, all those clouds and fog, but no rain…?
Oh, very cool. I need a new read.
i was laughing out loud — i think diesel has met his match with lizzy the cupcake making lady — and carl pretty much obeys her
tis what makes the gray so bad.. if its gonna look like rain, it should rain. just like if it is cold enough to snow, let it snow
Aloha, open…! how many chickens in this batch…?
Boy, I wondered what you meant by “doing pioneer shit”.
Canning peaches, mmmmmm. That kinda stuff is a looooot of work. And hot.
I think I really got what pioneer life was like, at least for women, when I read the first part of Caro’s volume 1 of his LBJ bio. He has a long section on what women’s work was in the Texas Hill Country before rural electrification (one of LBJ’s pre-presidency good works. Wonder how the country tea partiers feel about government provided power?)
It was sweat-and-exhaustion-inducing just to read about it. I’ve never forgotten it.
And now, having “driven by” for nearly an hour, I really am going to bed. The cats have already given up waiting for me and distributed themselves about the house.
Hey, CTuttle, feels like about a hundred million, give or take a few!!
i’m fading fast. thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
night, Suzzz – be well
Sweet dreams, Suz…!
Would this mexican wedding cake recipe be it?
Though she calls it mexican wedding cakes, appears to be what I think of as mexican wedding cookies. She says something interesting about butter grade codes appearing on packaging — not on mine.
Beautiful work, homeroid…!
Nite suzanne… thanks for the hospitality.
Silas was down the hall from me years ago at an old mill building. The guy is more fun than his work. The man is nothing but talent and caring and humor.
I’m putting up food for winter. Used to be a “gentlelady” gardener and got into putting food up instead of giving fresh produce away in desperation. So, I learned canning and now I love it! I can buy peaches at a dollar a pound if I’m willing to buy 20 pounds. Which sounds like alot, but it’s about 13 quart jars. So, I just ordered 40 lbs. more for Friday.
I “put up” [as we canners say] 40 quarts of dill pickles, 38 quarts of peaches, 15 chickens, some smoked, some halfed, marinated and vacuum sealed, some primo Toms frozen whole,…
I used to work in the restaurant kitchens. If you had asked me 25 years ago “Where do you visualize yourself in 25 years?”, this would have been a shocker!
Sweet dreams, Suzanne.
Sorry i missed ya Suz. Nite.
