well done senator! how’s sac tonight?
hey wmd — how was your day?
(((mary mac)))
Hi Suzanne and everyone,
Turned chilly in SoCal today. Big thunder clouds on the horizon on the Mojave this evening.
So, Obama still insists on “strengthening” Medicare. But, then, he doesn’t have to worry about primaries like other Democrats do. Do you think he’d be talking that way if he had a credible challenger?
Sigh!
I’m not reading, watching or listening to ANYTHING about 9/11.
I don’t care about it, I don’t care about the dead any more, ObL was just the first Visigoth coming over the seventh hill. It’s been 10 years of corporate gimmedats, government surrender, no matter who’s been in office.
America is done. ObL won. Look at America, we’re done. We’re on the slippery slope. I won’t live to see the end but you young ‘uns are in for a very hard time.
Ok. Started using narcotic pain medication today. Saw Xray of my hip on Thursday: no cartilage left, bone bearing on bone, numerous small fractures that heal and make spurs. When I saw it I was amazed I’m as mobile as I am.
I think I’m going to be able to tolerate more exercise, which should let me lose some weight before surgery. Surgeon said I’m a candidate for resurfacing, which keeps more of my bone intact – I’ll be able to play volleyball in summer of 2013. Surgery is scheduled for the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
oh fuck, i forgot to dive…. running for the dive platform, hurridly climbing the stairs, quickly walking out on the board while thinking of what dive to feature and not noticing that i’ve reached the end of the board…
b e l l y f l o p ker-splash
fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck
hey wigwam — i had sunshine today but the wind wasn’t coming from the east, as predicted, and was bitterly cold (again). how ya doing tonight?
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!
Never give up, never surrender.
We do not have to go gently into a dark age.
hey that guy — how was your day? i’m purposely avoiding any and all coverage… i just cant take anymore death porn with the same footage shown over and over and over
tis disrespectful in my book
is resurfacing less invasive than a total hip replacement?
I was reffing soccer games today when the thunder heads rolled in and the thunder and lightning started. We had to immediately stop play and clear the fields. It was amazing watching 200 cars try to leave the parking lot at the same time. This in Sonora, Central CA.
Hi Suzanne
1.5…! ;-)
Aloha, Suz and pups…!
hey waynec — folks in ca forget how to drive the minute weather changes… how long did the storm last?
grrrrrrrrr aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
i wonder how ce is doing tonight — her son’s wedding was today iirc
Now that’s funny! I’ve never seen you belly flop before, Suz. I suppose that nasty judge fell off his chair finding his lowest number card.
Yes and no. The surgery itself is more invasive – 20 cm incision vs two 4-6 cm incisions. Technique is minimally damaging – muscle is retracted not cut as much as is possible. End result is much less metal implanted – with a replacement there is a steel rod going about 15 cm down the center of the femur and the entire femoral neck is removed. With resurfacing the majority of the femur and femoral neck remains untouched – the ball is ground down and a steel ball is press fitted into the femoral neck.
The diagram in about the middle of this page is a pretty good one.
can’t hurry your dives. ever.
hey dearie — i figured we could all use a laugh or two… especially if it was at my expense… how’s the so central ca coast tonight?
sweet…. the initial surgery will take a bit longer to recover from than the less invasive one but the post surgery rehab will be less than with the replacement. it took a solid year to recover enough from my tkn.
Suz!
hey bfl — how’s the city beautiful tonight?
I suppose that nasty judge fell off his chair finding his lowest number card.
Why yes he did…! ;-)
Sticky evening tonite here, after a gloriously Sunny day…!
oh yeah. definitely. and the same thing….. you liberals aren’t patriotic….. because,as yoiu say, we’ve seen this SO many times. i mean, i’ve thought about the day, remembered it and it’s nothing i want to dwell on. nor do i need to be reminded about the price of freedom or the dangers we still face or any such other stuff. Friend is a labor lawyer and as at a local labor day picnic/jobs rally. he represnts some public employee unions. he said, you know there were hardly any politicians there on labor day and now they want to bask in the reflected glow of the union cops and firefighters. good observation, i thought.
hey newton — how’s the sf west bay tonight? any thunderstorms like waynec had up in sonora?
Kinda foggy all day down here, but pleasantly cool. Spent time with my daughter, her husband and the baby-boys for the first time since my trip to Cartagena. The boys went down for a nap……and then chit-chatted with each other, laughed, sang for an hour and a half. They just turned three….and they are a hoot and a half. And I understand more and more about the twin bond.
My twin brother and I, who are so different tempermentally&politically, had a good time in Cartagena with his wife and her sisters.
and yet the first responders were specifically not invited to the ny city commemoration… fuckers *spitting*
Surgeon said I’ll be using a walker for a week, cane for 2 weeks if all goes well. I hope I’m feeling up for dancing on NYE. If my attitude has any effect on recovery I will be.
yay for the day spent with the grandbabies and double yay for having a good time on the trip with your opposite twin
Humid enough for it, but no pyrotechnics in these parts.
Again, if you would be so kind as to loan us Californinos soma that cool air, it would be most appreciated.
hiya Suzzzz
well, people here ar REALLY happy. Our local school, UCF, just beat Boston College 30-3 and that’s supposed to be a big deal. Great, right? Wrong. My kid goes to BC and I’m going to have to listen to alot of crap. Football is religion down here and i think it sucks the way they lionize college kids. jeez. it’s kind of pathetic. but there really isn’t much else to do in Gainsville, tallahassee and orlando, i guess.
it was 5 weeks 6 days before i could straighten my knee all the way after the tkr. was on heavy duty morphine post op that was reduced down to heavy duty take home pain meds when i was discharged. i remember the hips on the joint replacement ward seemed to have an easier time than us knees did
hey ppd — how’s the monterey bay tonight?
Hey!
Just arriving at FDL after a wonderful wedding and super deluxe reception. How is everyone? Weather here glorious and about 78 degrees.
Are you serious…? I just saw a snippet of today’s memorial on C-span, with Biden, Bubba, Shrub, and, their significant others in tow…!
Storm lasted 20 minutes.
But the sky looked like something out of the
Tom Cruise version of War of the Worlds
shoo wind, shoo — get your tushkie down to ca pronto. did you hear me, i said NOW
hope it helps dood
Alright, Chris…! Congrats on your new Ohana…! *g*
hello mother of the groom! details, i want details ma’am. how are your feet? did those fabulous new shoes get broken in ahead of time?
serious whatta slap in the face dood…
i love a good thunder and lightning storm… so primal and wild
my friend is one. also worked 8 months at ground zero on recovery. he’s told me a few stories and i didn’t want to hear any more and don’t want to repeat them. 14 hour days were not uncommon. He gets check ups regularly and–knock wood–so far is healthy. He hasn’t gotten a thanks you from anyone with the city. no recognition whatever. he’s not complaining about it. what he IS pissed about is that a guy he knew was a security guard downtown on 9/11. didn’t do anything remotely heroic. he got sideline tkts for the Jets game just for…. nothing, really. being there.
I’m just going to have a popsicle and pretend it’s comfortable.
my cousin is on riverside county fire dept’s urban search and rescue teams.. he was on one of the only planes flying that day, headed to nyc. his unit was one of the first activated and he was on site by nightfall. so far, knock on wood, greg has suffered no ill effects
I’m with you Suzanne. It was bad enough the first time around, not looking forward to going over and over that day again.
I have to agree with ThatGuy that OBL won.
We now live in a police/surveillance state that “no one could have predicted.”
(Condi Rice)
i ate so much ice cream when i was at the un-air conditioned cabin… i still eat it here but not so much.
hey foxman — how ya doing tonight? good to see ya here at lln :)
I’m supposed to get heavy meds for my first 10 days at home… I think I’ll be using lower potency meds in 3 or 4 days.
And as much as I resist the pleas from those 911 Conspiracy wackoos, I can’t get past building seven imploding into its own footprint when it wasn’t even hit by a plane….
The key to all truth of 911 is building 7….
its the bone work that is so forking painful. for me, it was like having a double broken leg, just above the knee and just below. the zipper incision was a piece of cake compared to the bone pain
hey robert — how’s soPA tonight?
Looking forward to football season (and Fall is my favorite time of year, pleasant temps here in N. Illinois.)
Late Sat. nite is a rare opportunity to participate in the fun. Best wishes to all!
i love fall — the crisp chill in the air and smell of fireplaces burning wood. the fall colors and the spiciness of the fall flowers… and the food — the return of chili and turkey and oatmeal – hearty food that sticks to your ribs
Flood waters receding quickly. Where’s FEMA?
Hey Suzanne!
We all belly-flop now and then…hiya pups!
yay and boo hiss. wtf why are they not there?
I was worried for awhile there that the Weenies were about to be trounced, at the Big House, by God’s Team earlier…! ;-)
I don’t know. Maybe Eric Cantor wants Hershey Park and Knobels Park as collateral….
If my recollection is correct, ALL the WTC buildings fell straight down on their own footprint.
But to suggest that it was a planned demolition would make the suggester “crazy.”
I don’t want to be considered crazy, so it must have been all the jet fuel.
WTC 7?
Don’t make me crazy.
yeah. REAL football. not college. I like college football, ok, i guess. Just never understood it as an obsession it is for some people. They’re kids, for god’s sake.
PA does have that there liberty bell…
D’weren’t none of that thar jet fuel in building 7….
Yeah, but it’s got a crack in it, so Cantor says its only good for scrap….
Yes, the sweet scent of fall and thank you for reminding me that I need to call the chimney cleaners, so we can have that wonderful fire in the fireplace without burning the house down!
That grow-up(or not) before our very eyes, BFL…! ;-)
betcha he has a spot all picked out in his office for it…
Goodnight then. Best to all.
mine got cleaned and repaired yesterday — i had the first fire of fall last night
g’nite ce
Well if you have a favorite local team (I live in Evanston, home of Northwestern) than the college game can be just as fun, because they’re NOT pros.
absolutely. that they do. so far it’s been enjoyable
i’m going to jen’s tuesday and am gonna grammysit jujube tuesday nite. i can’t wait — i’m way overdue for a jujube fix
Chimney cleaners on my list.
It’s really a primal pleasure, gathering around the warmth of the fire.
(With a good book to read, or good old movie on.)
G’nite all; don’t let the 9/11 re-enactments get you down.
am glad you are enjoying lln foxman — i like to think of lln as the dark side of the lake with a campfire going as we gather around talking about what we wanna talk about with music playing in the background. gotta have good tunes :)
g’nite foxman
And may the Dog of the Lake bless you, Suzanne.
over the hills
thank you foxman — blessings to you and yours
shit. can’t sleep. this is going to screw me up tomorrow and monday
Got quiet around here. Okay, how about this little preview gem of a short story by one of the Circle8 Writers Group new authors:
from C8’s upcoming anthology: The Anonymous Ophthalmologist:
It is afternoon. I go downtown. Our little town is small, comfortable and increasingly gentrified. It used to be a place where artists could live on a tiny amount of money. Now, it has become one of the more expensive places to live in the state. The old families in town are mostly farmers and blue-collar workers who long ago lost control of their community to the monied of San Francisco. The town square, over the last tens years, has been transformed into cheese shops, mediocre but expensive art galleries, and several very good restaurants. I am meeting a friend at one of those restaurants.
Jan and I sit outside under an arbor covered with wisteria. Shade patterns the customers, but it is still abnormally cold for an October day in Northern California. We both know all the waitresses and waiters. We even know the owner. Since it is a weekday, the place is not filled with tourists. We know at least a third of the patrons. A pizza with goat cheese, portobello mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and roasted eggplant is ordered. It is that kind of place.
I start the lunch conversation with, “Jan, did you know that eggplant will make you dream in color?”
“I always dream in color anyway,” she says.
i’ve been a night owl for years — getting up before the crack of noon always forks up my circadian clock
nice… really set the scene well
She was a joy to edit, and quite a catch for C8….
Somewhere in the world there’s soccer game being televised. Find it on your teevee, and you will be asleep before you know it.
i would sleep in but i need to run an early erand.
maybe a rerun of the timbers game — it was a zero zero tie
yuck — i try to make all my errands early afternoon ones
great idea.
I really do hate to go to the ‘best sleep I ever got was while the World Cup game was on’ card…
Wait, no I don’t.
summer. florida. thunderstorms early afternoon.
i’ve never been much of a fan of televised games.. just aint the same as being there…
That’s one of the benefits for us retired folk, we wake up when we want to, less we die in our sleep….
sounds brutal.
ahhhh whereas this section of oregon is more of an its warm enough to go out by then kinda thing. my mom is coming up in less than 2 weeks from her home in az. i hope she brings lotsa sweaters
Given the choice of seeing two, three, four televised NFL games on a given weekend, or not being able to attend even one, the choice is clear…
Speaking of which: brain-dead move of the year so far is – I scheduled a full day with clients… for tomorrow.
VERY true
no alarm clock is my most favorite thing about being retired
I have a question for the assembled multitudes here. ready?
hopefully it will lessen your exposure to the all day death porn that is going to playing tomorrow
congrats on snagging the happy lucky 100 bfl!!!
True enough.
How many B-Death bomber fly-overs can one comparatively stable psyche take in one day?
Yay, me!!!! Is there a name for that? Comparable to zed?
wait. my alarm clock is 2 hours fast
*heh* At least you can still watch the Oakland-Denver game on Monday nite…! Go Donkies…! ;-)
the happy lucky 100 is its name as far as i am aware…. it has not been shortened to a zedlike name
Ok. Here ia my question: Does anyone here not have TV? I’m thinking of getting rid of it and I’ve never gone without TV.
not me. i’ve only gone without tv when powers down… and then i’ve gotta have a portable radio or mp3 player going…
OK. that’s fine. Just wanted to know if there was somewthing to shout. “HAPPY LUCKY 10OTH!!!” Nah.
ok. i’m gonna try bed again
crowing rights, there be lotsa crowing rights.
and openhope says that when ya get the happy lucky 100, that’s your cue to go buy a lotto ticket.
g’nite bfl
Well, I do get to gloat when Suz happens to snag it three days in a row, but, other than that…! ;-)
Pssst, Suzanne, can you guess who wrote that excerpt in #87?
Oakland still has a team?
really? I’ve been meaning to do that and keep putting it off and then forgetting. now i HAVE to do it.
in which sport? any sport?
i know.. i got a copy of it to read in my email when i’m done with lln.
So watcha got on tap for your ‘Weekend’, Suz…? A visit with Jujube…?
that’s tuesday — this weekend i’m working on the kitchen and bathroom… the little woman arrives a week from wednesday
I feel bad about the Athletics (the ’89 World Series notwithstanding).
The Raiders – not so much.
Being 49er fan requires that caustic commentary be directed at Alice Davis’ squad whenever the topic arises.
Ooh, white glove grade cleaning…! Ugh…!
tis a struggle in a drafty century old house with lotsa nooks and crannies that spiders love. my mother’s house, on the other hand, spiders would not dare to even think about taking up residency…
tis about time for me to turn back into a pumpkin peeps. am looking forward to discovering what tut has on tap for sun and mon nites…. hope to see ya there!
g’nite all
nite suz. shuffling off here, too
Sweet dreams, Suz…! *g*
