At last night’s GOP debate, Politico’s John Harris asked Gov. Rick Perry which scientists he found most credible on the matter of climate change. While no one expected the befuddled ignoramus to actually name a scientist, what would follow was truly extraordinary.

The rather simple query triggered what must have been a significant neurological event as the governor spewed forth one of the most garbled, fatuous run-on sentences ever uttered by a non hydrocephalic. Indeed, it was an electrochemical meltdown of Bushian proportions.

Punctuating his otherwise unpunctuatable sentence was Perry’s pig-shit Texas drawl. Stupidity’s force multiplier …

O’s speech tactic was simple: Do nothing which brings about the desired disaster by purposely proposing package that congress won’t pass. Shift blame congress.

And the piece on healthcare in TX is a must read…..His spokesperson says TX encourages independence. Tell that to children, elderly, frail, handicapped….really a cruel statement in the context of TX medical facts.

One of Krugman’s weakest articles ever. He totally misses that the jobs spending (mostly temporary) will be in exchange for cuts to Social Security and Medicare (permanent). As with the Affordable Health Care Act, he is either fooled by the Obama administration or does not wish to acknowledge its failings.

The key line was “How little can we spend and still have a system?”. But keep in mind as you consider spending that we cannot:

1) Reduce the amount we pay drug providors by drug reimportation or bulk buying.

2) Do anything that would result in a reduction of insurance company profits.

3) do anything that might allow an undocumented immigrant access to the health care system prior to unconscienceness, even if it means citizens are also blocked.

VERY weak article by Krugman. I guess he realizes that it was basically a campaign speech and he has to get on board.

The report is on the incompetence & graft & fraud going into the construction of a building that will be unconscionably expensive, totally useless when Manhattan has an office glut, token memorial site. All of the commercial aspects are replays of what happened with the construction of the first WTCs. The expose has nothing to do with anything that went into 9/11.

Who’s paying? Drum roll. Since Port Authority is in charge, it’s the commuters (think secretaries, nannies) who come into Manhattan who are paying extraordinary tunnel/bridge/RR tolls. What else is new.

An Obama speech so that means he didn’t mean anything he said(except for those tax cut mentions, of course).

The qualification that the plan “is bigger and bolder” than expected, is a telling distinction. At best, it’s a backhanded compliment, given by someone who most likely has friends in high places.

But Krugman is loved by millions who are, by intent from “above”, not even as “far” along as he “isn’t”.

Krugman is the pet “outside” economist of the Masters, and will never say anything really useful in educating or inspiring the many.

One of the little known facts about WTC & 9/11 is that it wasn’t a center of financial power. It was always a white elephant, never could be profitably rented & had to be filled up with govt tenants, mostly state employees I think. Not sure how the subsidies worked out.

If it had really been occupied by Wall Streeters, a lot more casualties would have occurred. They typically work from 7-7, whereas regular workers are more 9-5ers.

I agree with caleb that Krugman’s article last night was quite weak, but IMHO the weakness was only in his political analysis. While Krugman does not do political analysis well, he is unparalleled at economic analysis and his number crunching was quite good. If preznit’s jobs plan were to actually pass Congress, Krugman thinks it would inject 200B of new stimulus into the economy and generate the proportional “bang for the buck” in jobs that kind of stimulus can produce. But Krugman ended with this quote, which is just wrong, because the American people are already demanding more action to create jobs; preznit & Congress are just ignoring the people:

The good news in all this is that by going bigger and bolder than expected, Mr. Obama may finally have set the stage for a political debate about job creation. For, in the end, nothing will be done until the American people demand action.

I’m sorry to see Krugman end with such lame advice. He’s just wrong. He implies the “American people” did not “demand action” yet; he indirectly accuses “American people” of failing to push their politicians to do the right thing. That’s just stupid to say that.

I apologize if this has already been addressed, so please correct me if that is the case. I can’t stand that Obama’s children are being trashed here. How old are they–10 and 12 or so? As much as I have been critical of Obama and his seeming presidential incompetence, I have no contempt for his children. This just seems hateful to me rather than productive in any way. I don’t want to become hateful even if our political system is in a shambles.

I note that you have not given any example of how the obummer kids have been trashed here, or shown how anyone else has shown contempt for them.

That being said, obummer selling out to his corporate sponsors (seen if you have your eyes open – after all it is blatant now, aint it?) will ensure that his kids will never want for anything, while dooming the futures of a majority of US children.

I responded to ECahn at 15. He/she refers to Obama’s children as “rapacious” and wanting big weddings, implying that as children of the president, even if they are only barely tweens, they are looking ahead to their “expensive weddings.” This is not a political statement I am making (maybe it is, in its own way, now that I think about it). It’s a statement about decency toward children even when you believe, as I do, that their father is doing a wretched job as president. Can a 10 or 12 year old really be rapacious? I’m not sure they’re even mature enough to have that in them. Some kids might, but I would definitely give them the benefit of the doubt at this age and because as people, they have the right to not be personally attacked.

I do think that, as adults, children are obvously no longer children and have to answer for their actions. I am glad you brought up both Chelsea Clinton and Amy Carter, each of whom made quite different choices from the other. I would argue about assuming “stuff runs in the family.” I would say people should be judged by their own actions rather than those of their parents or other family members. My dad watches fox news and believes lots of tea partyish things. I don’t, to say the least. Anyone assuming I share any political views with him would be making a serious mistake.

(Gee, are they starting to listen?) No mention of defense spending by Obama, it was ‘entitlements’ plus vague feel good references to taxing the rich.

So, were all of this to have a snowball’s chance in that hell, you can bet the payfor stuff will far outweigh the goodies, just as Obama’s $4trillion Grand Bargain he was prepared to give to the sharks outweighed anything he was going to get from that – and don’t forget, he still loves that package.
