You would think once the Republican elites had rationalized away any responsibility they have had for 9/11, the economic collapse, and any other ill to befall America after the Civil War, they could be satisfied just going after the Obama Administration on its limited economic accomplishments (which at this point amount to ‘well we prevented a complete collapse’).
But if folks like Mitt Romney did that they wouldn’t really be Republicans.
The chart [used in supporting Romney's plan], however, calls the period of time from 2007-2009 the “Obama recovery,” blaming him for the poor job numbers over that three-year period. As Romney surely knows, however, George W. bush was serving as president in 2007 and 2008, and Obama did not take office until January 2009.
Knows? Maybe. Cares? Not so much.
Besides you cannot beat the Romney plan, which is to triple the square footage of all houses owned members of his Administration (and also the houses of all nominal leaders of any occupied nation)…and to adopt all parts of the Ryan Plan, except those which are not awesome. It’s quite the stimulus package.

About Firedoglake
The really sad thing about all this is that our Democratic president and a hell of a lot of his party would gladly sign on to much of Romney’s proposal. Lower corporate taxes, free trade, and now apparently planet killing domestic energy production. Damn the all.
Corporations are people, my friend — people who shouldn’t have to pay taxes.
This is not meant to be taken as a factual statement. Got it?
Good morning, pups. Today we have Dowd and Friedman. In “Paging History” MoDo says that years of history and a relatively tiny budget could not save the House page program thanks to all those fears of temptation. The Moustache of Wisdom says it’s time for “The Whole Truth and Nothing But.” He babbles that this week, which coincides with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and President Obama’s jobs speech, is a great time for truth-telling. Of course he only calls on the President to tell the truth…
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got apple cranberry muffins that are still warm. Is anyone planning on watching the debate this evening? I’m torn. On one hand it has the awful fascination of a multi-car pileup, but I’m also afraid of losing IQ points if I watch it. I’m hoping there will be a live blog here, because I’m certainly not going to hazard it on my own. I’m too old to work without a net… Have a great day.
Let’s take a look at the same chart with the actual numbers, shall we?
Thanks. I’m going to try. But I turned on news yesterday to find Mitt stoically keeping his face tuned to Sanity while announcing that jobs will result when the taxpayers subsidize business some more. Couldn’t watch.
Politicians and especially Republicans lie by default. Remember the US attorneys scandal when some of them were fired by Bush? Shouldn’t have been a scandal, those people serve at the pleasure of the President. The White House, (Cheney) just had to smear them too with lies and unsupportable accusations. If David Iglesias hadn’t spoken up for himself, none of us would even remember that event.
Rainy,rainy morning all,
So standing back and observing we don’t actually elect presidents they are shoved down our throats subliminally until the one we barf up less on election day is the winner .
Wonder if former Governor Gary Johnson would like to run, you know the Republican anti-war nut ?
He’s a typical GOPer. Factually challenged, hamstrung by ideology, and questionably sane.
Boxturtle (Before you ask, I mean Mitt, not Barry)
Hmph! I feel the same way about anti war Republicans as I do about anti war Democrats: They talk a good game but let them actually when the office and the tune changes to singing the praises of the MIC really fast.
It astonishes me how much gets forgotten or just left behind. Have we dropped Monica Goodling’s making applicants for DoJ tell her their politics so she could hire only those who reject justice for rote??
You must admit that this would help. Even though it’s not a comprehensive solution.
Boxturtle (Politicians should only be permitted to speak under oath)
Which is worse holdovers from BushCo or the brand new atty’s hired by ObamaLLP? Neither can find a war criminal who isn’t also guilty of embarassing the administration, neither can find criminal charges in the mortgage mess, and neither seems to have problems persecuting whistleblowers.
At least Gooding was up front about it. Obama likely sneaks.
Boxturtle (However, the end result is the same)
So the Senate saves us from having to choose which, since none of them can get confirmed!
Ain’t it the truth? I think Obama could take the unconfirmed Bush USA’s, submit them and the GOP would still vote en masse against them.
Boxturtle (But at least in that case, the gOP would be doing the right thing)
From what I’ve seen, their jobs proposal is similar if not identical.
And I thought I voted for a Democrat back in 2008….
Funny, many have made the same observation about their health insurance schemes. And yes, we did vote for the lesser evil. People seem surprised when they realize that it’s evil nonetheless.
