The Logic of ‘Baggernomics’
For Baggers and right-wingers of all stripes, a matter very simple for the sane and uncontaminated becomes a tangle. On Thursday, President Obama will propose again that the federal government inject money into the nation’s economy, and after Thursday, Republicans will begin anew the aging death dance as they beseech the help of Jesus in interring the political carcass of the unspeakable Other at Sixteen Hundred …
The Logic of ‘Baggernomics’
yep, Perry is begging retired firefighters to come in and fight his fires for him. After firing them and their buddies.
Sign of the times.
Government going Galt.
Good morning BT and firepups,
Ruth, do you think the anger and anguish of those who lost their homes and possessions will flare up against Perry and his ambitions?
It is Perry’s race to lose. Live in Texas and have witnessed the devastation he has caused to the public sector. He might be a little tired for the debate tonight but if he does reasonably well he will be the nominee.
Hopefully. Also the parents of kids in the schools he’s gutted.
Only the white lilies are missing. Bernanke looks cadaverous.
Good Morning Hot and Wet Doggies
Does anyone know what the financial relationship is between Texas and a state, such as California, who have sent their firefighters to help with the blazes?
Better than nothing? No.
This would ultimately make it cheaper for businesses to borrow money for investments and push more dollars into the stock market, in addition to reducing rates on mortgages and other consumer loans.
What am I missing here?
Businesses aren’t investing because they have no customers.
That is all we need, give the stock market more money!
Who is going to refinance an underwater mortgage? I suppose lots of people need loans, but when you either don’t have a job or live in daily fear that yours is going to India, would you take out a consumer loan?
OK, what am I missing here? Surely something. Surely the Fed isn’t proposing something as worthless as this seems to me.
1) I think the number of people that will help is VERY small. Anyone who isn’t underwaer and can refi has already done so.
2)BOGUS BOGUS BOGUS! You don’t cut programs when the need is greatest. Mi may be in a condition where they can’t raise taxes on business, but in a sane world between a state tax increase on $200K+ and federal aid they would be able to make it through the worst of it. If there was acutally federal aid that Wall st. didn’t need.
3) Hammer that point and it might. Texas is burning. You could phrase it as “If we’d just taken care of our own damn fire dept’s, we wouldn’t have to ask for federal help, wouldn’t have to let FEMA in”
4) I think I predicted Mitt’s jobs plan a year ago. :-)
5) He thinks Obama should work with the GOP. As opposed to the surrender he’s doing now.
Boxturtle (Have to take Husky to vet today. Think she has arthritis. I blame Obama)
oops, good morning pupses and thank you BT!
Promise them anything n’ give them Arpege.
Who knows what dooms a candidate’s campaign. Or is it only the Democratic candidate’s who pay for Crying, Cheating, Taking Bad PR shots? I’m trying to think of an R candidate who lost because of a news story, or a series of stories, except for Christine O’Donnel.
Al Gore is fat
California is not a cheap date. (I’m pretty sure.)
Can’t speak between Texas and Calif and frankly I’m suprised that those two states could agree on anything. They’re basically polar opposites.
With Ohio, we pay the expenses of the visiting help and the help’s salary gets paid by whomever normally pays them. And vice versa. It works okay, outside of sporting events we get along with our neighbors pretty well.
Though it must be said that Pittsburgh takes very good care of visiting Browns fans on game day.
Boxturtle (I hope the f**King steelers fans can say the same about Cleveland)
But that wasn’t the reason he let George take the crown.
(PS, thanks for trying to defend me yesterday. Much appreciated.)
Perry doesn’t know the difference.
Did you get attack morons too? I had one at my post trying to misconstrue really easy info, finally gave him a link to a remedial reading program.
No, you are right. That was the time for an uprising. We wouldn’t be in this shit right now if we had squashed the Brooks Brothers riot.
Hey, what I said was completely true, so no need for thanks. You are welcome.
Well, at least California firefighters have ALOT of experience, and I bet they don’t work for free.
Yep. :( Twice yesterday, actually.
I guess I am just hoping that some of this s#!t that Perry has pulled will finally start to catch up with him and destroy his chances at greater glory. I for one will not be able to stand another dumb, hypocritical, lame excuse for a Texan to be elected President. There are just too many good people in Texas, many of them who comment here, that would be better candidates than this lame excuse for a man.
That’s good. I also think people should clear the wax out of their ears sometimes. I wish I had Peggy’s brass. Would love to type Can you fookin’ read?
That NYT article BT links to above, Families Feel Sharp Edge of State Budget Cuts didn’t once mention any revenue solutions. I don’t even like to use revenue any longer. It is a weasel word.
Taxes. It isn’t that hard to say. Even if it is, someone must.
There are just too many good people in Texas, many of them who comment here
Ya better watch it, Apple. That’s what I said yesterday right before I got yelled at. Just trying to help.
But, yes, you are right to hope that. And, right to say what you know and think.
Along that line, thanks.
Mornin’, BT, pups
So the word from the Village is that Osterity’s jobs plan will center around another year of reduced payroll taxes and an extension of UI benefits. Yeah, that’ll get the economy moving again. Lemme see now, what can I splurge on with the extra $52 I’ll get next year? That’ll cover the 6-CD boxed set of John Trudell’s early work.
Happy Birthday Buddy Holly. He’d be 75 today.
Happy Birthday Chrissie Hynde. She’s 60 today and goin’ strong.
It seems to be the standard tactic for the wingnuts at the moment, just skew whatever was actually said – (you know my ultimate response won’t get past the system, anyway).
Sorry you got yelled at yesterday. Sounds like OmAli had your back which is why this site is so good. We protect our own.
I was not present yesterday or no one and I mean no one would be yelling at you without a response.
Gore vs christy billed as manno to manno sumo death match, for the country not them personally.
Using taxpayers’ money on the taxpayers is my favorite line at the moment.
Well, thanks, but I think this was one of own.
What I learned from it was that the next time I see a comment that starts out with “This may make me sound cold hearted”, I’ll just scroll and keep my sanctimonious mouth shut. :)
Yes, Peaches, I do know.
There’ a Virgo in the wind these days.
I was thinking about third parties last night. If we are going to send a message to Osterity and the Dem leadership ugh, wouldn’t it be better to do it by focusing on a single candidate with a well-defined platform of objectives?
At least maybe it would help to focus voters’ attention on the fact that there are ways out of this mess other than the neolib/neocon uniparty path.
Speaking of what can or cannot get through the system, why is it that a guy can be called a “dick”, but we can’t type the epithet “P***Y?
Sometimes scolling is good especially with the ads that show up in the threads from time to time.
Speaking of time, it is time to get some outside work completed on a sunny day.
Have a good day everyone.
Be happy and productive and thanks.
It’s the great mystery of what offends the binary morality!
And thanks for good company, me too, have to get a move on.
Great way to clear the head and freshen the perspective. Take care.
He is determined to keep cutting away at SS through those holidays, isn’t he?
Yep, what better way to defund SS than to just quit collecting FICA from the workers who would depend on it in their later years. Here, Richard, we’ll give ya an extra buck every payday and you can starve your hippie ass to death when you get old. Motherfuckers.
This has been a weird week for weather. It really makes me antsy. We are expecting damaging winds today after 10″ of rain. There are going to be trees down all over the place.
Talked with my friend in Tulsa yesterday. They went from weeks of +100 degrees to 57 a couple nights ago. I’m surprised the state didn’t shatter due to thermal shock.
sorry I wasn’t there for the yell-at-demi portion of that thread
eye opening to see some of the thoughtless shit said in the face of suffering
per your earlier question, as best I can tell, one state bills the other when sending firefighters and other first response assets
p.s. Bastrop, the town ravaged by the fire, is represented in the State Leg. by a Democrat –
Morning BT & Firepups:
Willard’s job plan: tax cuts and deregulation.
What’s most appalling to me is not that this shit is being proposed, but that the “Beltway Press” doesn’t spend about (oh, I dunno) five minutes gathering backup to prove that doing the “tax cuts and deregulation” thing for the past decade (at least) has only made things worse. Why in the Fucktard should we think it’s going to work now? Posing this question ain’t exactly brain surgery.
Hey Beltway Press: Do your job, or I’ve got no use for you. (You know who you are, so don’t feign ignorance, you unAmerican sellout assholes.)
Better start deep storing them beans, mister.
How’s it looking today? Any change at all?
Do you think the guv will use Federal Funds to pay CA back?
That and the using our taxes to help us eat seems like a complicated shell game.
Yep, what better way to defund SS than to just quit collecting FICA
And no one in the jagoff MSM calls it out for what it obviously is.
Gonna get a couple Nam vets together and we’ll start stickin’ up armoured cars.
People have been so trained to look at the DFH liberals as a subhuman lifeform that they are willing to destroy the country rather than entertain anything other than that bullshit.
Don’t forget the presidential masks.
Took me a bit to read through BT’s links and thanks as always for those BT. Things aren’t, economically, a lot better on the west side of Lake Michigan, but the progressive in-state pundits are still pushing everyday for the Walker/Kleefisch recall. Gotta take the lieutenant along with the gov or she takes the seat of power.
Good Morning, nonquixote.
Probably because Dick is a common name.
nonqui, are you on the east side of the lake?
But how many of the people affected by Perry’s decisions will vote against him?
winds are waaaay down — and they are saying they will tackle actual containment today
it is so damn dry everywhere – and it’s official, NOAA & NWS have stated Texas and Oklahoma had the hottest summer on record in this country’s history –
Perused a couple posts last night, no cat-scratch fever, I hope? Ouchy.
Edit: submit comment failed on the first go.
Well, I’m not running a temperature, but it is infected. No worse today though, so I guess that’s good. Thanks.
That is great news. Let’s hope the wind continues to cooperate. Then the heartbreak of going home and seeing what is left……..
Have you been using Epsom salt soaks?
Good and Wow.
Morning puzzle for you, East side of the Bay, West side of the Lake. Where in the world is?
In Wisconsin and I am proud to say, the left side of the lake, politically speaking.
Yes. The scratch is just above my ankle, so I can sit here with a bucket under my desk. Which reminds me….brb.
It’s not really de-funding SS.
Without a map I can’t get to the bathroom! Let me think a bit, then I’ll cheat!
I love Wisconsin. We took the Badger across the lake to see friends on the E. side.
Perry won in Bastrop County by less than 725 votes
demi, what is brb?
It is amazing, crazy impossible, the stuff that Epsom salts can draw to the surface. Suck those germs right outta there.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Afghanistan: 1,760
US KIA Irak: 4,474
Iraki, Afghan and Pakistani casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2011: 30,876 and counting
Pride of Man
No war but class war
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things
Never. Give. Up.
brb – be right back
bbl – be back later
We left from Manitowoc (sp). Is that close?
This year’s crop of HS students in my child’s class are each getting a personal laptop computer with stimulus funds from a couple of years back. The school is saving many thousands in textbook costs, insurance covering repairs and parts is $60/yr per family with scholarships for those needing help with that and the kids actually own the laptops.
This small school never qualified for a dime of state assistance.
thx, you have a good day and take care
bbl if I can find a map
brb = be right back
we used Dead Sea Salts to ‘cure’ oldnslow’s psoriasis on the bottom of his feet — took less than 10 days w/no sign of recurrence :D
be right back
Which I am now.
Quite an outcry about the last coal-fired lake steamer asking for an extension on orders to quit dumping coal slag into the lake and upgrading its boilers to a cleaner fuel. Otherwise a pleasant ride.
Our grandparents really gave us some good advice.
Psoriasis can be so painful, I can’t imagine it on the bottom of the feet :( It’s wonderful that you tried and it worked.
It was, but hate to admit that I never thought about the waste produced from the coal. I guess I thought all of its poisons were pumped right up into the atmosphere :(
Sailing ships. Huge sailing ships. We will probably live to see their comeback.
CBL is a gifted healer and wonderfull partner.
oldnslow, you and cbl are so fortunate, and it is so obvious from both your comments that you understand that. Makes me happy.
(Ouch. This water is hot.)
Once on a camping trip, our brindle boy stepped on something cut his paw. He wasn’t happy about it, but I made him sit with his boo boo in a bucket of epsom salts.
I can just picture him in a Norman Rockwell scene :) With you, sitting on his head.
The brb and bbl answers made me think of the Mrs. Bradley mysteries on PBS. Did anyone else see them? Her chaufreur was reading all the time, trying to ‘better himself’. She would assign him a new word every day and he would find uses for it in sentences during the day. So good.
File under affordable health care for all us unable to access the system…
And my late father who grew up with an older sibling, depression era, was fond of using Plantain poultices made with a wad of mashed leaves on any semi serious injury to me or my siblings as children. The stuff is prolific in the cracks in my brick patio, mixed in with the wild chamomile that I stock away during the season (edit) for tea.
Moving the bucket over to the couch now.
See alla youz later.
Any updates on the XL pipeline protests?
How many have been arrested to date?
bye, get better soon
Didn’t realize I was providing a seque to the next post.
That is pretty amazing. Every part of the plant seems to have a medicinal function, internally and externally.
How did early people ever discover that plants had curative properties?
I guess we ought to move upstairs.
I’m going to have to join you all later. bbl, have a good day, nonquixote.
Protests ended Saturday. Think I saw a figure of around 1200 total arrested.
There was some talk about that a couple of years ago during the last oil spike. Apparently sailing is now economically feasible for stuff that doesn`t ship in a hurry (like cars and electronic devices) because the old labour-intensive setting of sails can now be done electronically and the responses to shifts in wind and current controlled by microchips. Getting into and out of harbors would still be a problem, but obviously can be solved by using tugboats. I wouldn`t be too surprised to see them return to long runs. The sailboat was still being used to ship lumber down to the 1920s, when the surplus merchant ships from WWI finally drove them out of business.
That would be one of those win-wins. Environmentally, and omg, wouldn’t they be a sight to see?
I am out of the loop. I marked my calendar that they were going until September 17th.
