Lee Ritenour, George Duke, Marcus Miller, and Vinnie Colaiuta — It’s On, from the Ramsey Lewis Legends of Jazz, Contemporary Jazz episode.
What’s on your mind?
g’evening pups — how’s everyone doing tonight?
Suz!
That is SOME combo.
hey newton — how’s the sf bay area tonight?
Very smooth. How are you all? It’s Fall here.
It is great over here.
I spent a good deal of time up north county, then over to the coast for a couple of hours. Very pleasant.
What’s it like up there?
today was the third day in a row of being socked in with fog — except it finally cleared out about 45 minutes before sunset tonight. now there are clear skies and the temps are really dropping. bet i get down close to that 40 degree low i had fri nite/sat morning …
hey margot — instant summer is gonna hit again tomorrow — weather dood said east winds are gonna heat it back up and bring in all that smoke from the cascades and beyond… and its gonna stay that way for the next week or so
what’s new with you?
i found this video after checking out the tony bennett book salon host, eric’s jazz site, and that lead me to marcus miller’s wild bassing and when i saw this one, hoped it was one ya’ll would like
I miss the coastal fog, but not that tule crap we got when I lived in the valley.
Hello pups.
Central Floreeda is trying to get out of the 90s. Thank the good lord of something.
i would much rather have coastal fog — that tule fog is forking scary when driving
hey tuez — any chance katia will cool ya down like irene did?
I pulled this off of Facebook the other day. I think it will really blow your minds:
The Whitest Kids U’ Know – Pledge of Allegiance
hey robert — how’s soPA tonight?
6-9 inches of rain….
yikes… most i had at the cottage in the redwoods was 9 1/2″ in 24 hours… i was out checking creek levels ’bout every 30 minutes or so… twas a long night
I’m fairly certain Lee is responsible for the current 5+ degree drop. Not sure what Katia will do, I think it will stay too far offshore.
Now, the one behind it….
damn robert
Been madly driving all over town getting this and that.
Well, that there be snark.
On edit: Or not.
is that the one that’s gonna be an m name?
getting all ready for your trip?
I hope that vid goes viral….
I don’t know it’s only a wave at the moment. But it’s the first one this year heading here. On the other hand, it’s too far out and too early to give it much thought.
There is another that developed in the southern Gulf, that may be the M of the year.

Hey, has anyone here been through mediation? Just wondering what to expect.
Very funny.
so what
What’s the mediation for, and are you compelled to mediate by some sort of legal agreement?
Aloha, Suz and lln pups…!
hey openhope — how’s the sound tonight?
aloha tut — how’s paradise tonight?
Is that where you chant OM,…or….the stage just before lawyering-up, when you should probably have a lawyer already?
Its gotten almost 900,000 hits so far. Should be used as a commercial by Move-on or others to combat the far-right goons….
Gorgeous! Hope you had beautiful weather.
Kind of a mixed plate today, some Sun and clouds all day, no rain tho…!
I’m glad we don’t get much fog here…! ;-)
It’s a workers’ comp case my husband has pursued (okay, I’m the one behind it). We don’t have to mediate but I think it’s in everyone’s best interest (read: ours). His lawyer got tied up this afternoon and didn’t get a chance to discuss what will happen, so the next meeting with the lawyer will be just before the mediation tomorrow, which is why I’m wondering. Aside from a friendly divorce almost 20 years ago, I’m kind of a law newbie.
rush hour
fog until right before sunset. supposed to be clear tomorrow and a lot warmer :)
Oh, trust me, when a workers’ comp rep showed up here, check in hand, in January, I politely said no with the plan to call a lawyer.
I’ve never seen my husband look so sad when that check walked out the door. But he’s 58 and unemployed and, of course, no insurance. According to his doctor he is a knee replacement waiting to happen.
If we had universal health care in this country…
Oh, ouch! We can see the fog banks roll in across the bay and sit all day. The fog horns have been going the last 2 nights, all night. Fuckin’ ships.
Well, if your lawyer has experience with these mediators, he’ll know who on the panel will likely be favorable to your husband’s case. He’ll also know who works for the other side….
If we had universal health care like every other civilized nation.
I’m sorry you have to fight that fight.
ouch — been there, done that, beep at metal detectors now…
evening, CT, Suzzz, firegods
Watching Top Secret America on Frontline
I used to believe in Frontline. And PBS.
hey ppd — how ya doing tonight? tis pledge break up here this week and susie orman night on opb :(
Loud buggers eh…? The cruise ships always use ‘em to let all the tourists know it’s time to set sail…! You can feel the sound at times…!
Aloha, PPD…!
I brought mediator bias up with the lawyer a couple months ago (albeit, I was confusing arbitrator and mediator) and he brushed it aside. So far, I’ve had no reason to question his abilities. We found him through a friend who is a lawyer in a different field, as opposed to the “ambulance” chasing crowd.
used to believe, OH?
If we had universal health care in this country, we wouldn’t even have a case.
saved from Suze by a pledge break — lucky you!
Were ya’ll ordered into mediation or did ya’ll agree to mediation…?
yeah
i’ve always tried to get a referral from someone who is in the biz. my neurologist was my orthopedist’s wife’s surgeon, my lawyer represented a lotta folks in law enforcement in his workers’ comp speciality and i got his name from both other cops and my divorce lawyer
Frankly I don’t know. I have the sense it’s part of the process.
If you’ve ever been through an unemployment comp appeal, mediation is something like that, except mediation usually has a panel of three, not a single referee.
Your lawyer had best have some decent experience with their procedures. Ain’t no place to be for an amateur.
Also, mediation is usually the end of the line, their decision final and not appealable. All chips on the table. Game finally over.
transcendental mediation — all together now — ohmmmmmmmmm
each state has diff rules — could be that mediation in florida is different from mediation in pa…
this is the funniest thing i’ve read all day and made me think of my own septic tank exorcism at the cabin
Rules tend to be liberal in liberal states, and geared against the appellant in conservative states.
Hope Florida is as liberal as PA….
:]
true dat.. rick forking scott *spitting*
I believe arbitration is game over, mediation still leaves the possibility of a court case.
But this is Floreeda, so who knows.
In 12 hours, I’ll know it all. Good or bad.
fingers and toes crossed for you guys *and* a hands on monitor ohm that it all goes well for him
You joke.
I thought AngryBlackBitch was a bad blogger.? In which case, I’m glad that she understands now the true meaning of Shit Happens.
When we first moved out here I’d never lived with a septic system. 4th month in I asked,”What’s the brown water coming up in the shower?” Followed by 3 weeks from hell. Failed drain system, new zoning for waterfront, son of The Septic Guru contracting the job and proving that the Son is not always a chip off the old block!
Thinking thoughts of Righteous Power.
Good luck.
abb is great – i think you may be thinking of angry black lady who is one of the bloggers who call us firebaggers and other names…. i’ve been reading sharkfu at abb for several years and always enjoyed her snark without having to wince
Garbage disposals makes one lazy.
I’m now glad I grew up on a well and septic system. I know how to work them.
But I miss my garbage disposals.
Cool, I’ll check her out with a more open mind!
I miss my garbage disposal, too, but my dog, Teddy, died six years ago….
i miss having a garbage disposal too but am thankful that this place has a dishwasher
ha! token is the best pre-washer around
I can barely remember garbage disposals. Blast from the past. I’m so old we had incinerators in our back yards for burning trash. Every house in the subdivision, “Little Development On The Prairie”. Now know as Englewood,Colo. Burned the crap out of everything.
I’d rather have a dishwasher myself.
Robert, get another dog.
G’nite all.
Tomorrow will be an interesting day.
g’nite tuez
Well, the timer just beeped. Time to take the chickens out of their ice water bath and wrap them for aging. It’s still Chicken Harvest around here.
With 30 more arriving this Friday.
On that grisly note,
Sweet dreams, all.
g’nite openhope
Good luck with the heat and the mediation and the septic systems puppers.
First frost of the season last night just nipped the basil and that was all. Pole beans thick to eight feet on their supports and beautiful three foot high hedges in two 5′ X 50′ garden plots were about two honey bees to the square foot in the heat of the day sucking nectar from the banks of white blossoms. I’m going to have to find the neighbor with the bees and ask how their honey is tasting in a few weeks.
High of 67 degrees yesterday, maybe 72 later today. 50 outside at the moment. Two, 2 gallon pails of luscious wild plums into the freezer this afternoon. My child did not talk back with sass at a question about school today, I must be in heaven.
hey nonq- sounds like a good day all around :) are you up late or early?
Hey, hello and good night. Guess that’s a signal for me to harvest my basil. Good to hear about the honey bees.
Our plum trees are doing nothing for the second year in a row. But, our neighbor’s trees look good and they’re generous people with too many plums.
night
i was noticing dropped fruit alongside the driveway down by the road…looks like maybe plums… i’ll have to ask the landlord. i thought it was all just a mass of shrubs and trees and never paid it no nevermind until today
Hey Suzanne,
Up late, this morning, woke at 4:00 AM Tuesday, worked some at a job and around the house, got supper on the table for us and then headed to the HS to meet the new teachers my child has this year, cleaned the kitchen and sat down, slept for a couple hours in the chair. I did not get my mid-day nap in on Tuesday. Similar routine today. I only picked the best looking plums today, the cool night will ripen a bunch more. Having quiet a cup of tea.
These plums are about the size of those large bing cherries. I heard freezing with the pits in has them tasting better, but I have an antique hand crank, pitter and I washed then pitted these in about 15 minutes. Pint-bagged them.
the cool nights are great for sleeping too. noticing the blackberries out back are starting to ripen and some critters have already gotten to the easier ones… gonna have to get out there tomorrow and see what i can snag — nothing finer in the middle of winter than a bowl of vanilla ice cream with some fresh frozen blackberry sauce spooned over the top – tis like a little bowl of summer
these were about that size, maybe a wee bit larger but smaller than the plums i’ve seen at market. not gonna pick a one until i’ve confirmed with the landlady that they are in fact edible and not ornamental or maybe not a plum at all
Hi openhope,
I admire your ability or tenacity with chickens, other than cleaning fish that I catch, I’m not that skilled at butchering or rearing farm animals. Had some milking goats with a few other people in a commune setup years ago and those were great, I was kind of like the goat whisperer and the small herd liked me.
hungry…
again…
thanks
Hey folks! What’s on my mind? What’s on my mind?
1) I saw the sun in SF today. Yea!
2) I hope Obama’s Jobs speech will be so bold it will energize the economy.
3) One of my great ideas is being considered by a non-profit out of New York. It is about an action involving one of the
Board members of the New York Fed.
Dial-up here but gooogle, prunus americana for some pictures. The trees top out at about 15 feet and have two inch long distinctive but not super dangerous thorn like projections on the branches. I just tried a bite when I discovered these and researched on the net.
sorry dood :)
my landlady knows what every plant is that is here on the property – she pointed out there are two blueberry bushes in the garden near the art studio tucked behind the roses.. i had no idea they were there. i’m hoping the few apples left on the trees and the other fruit hang on until mom arrives — she would love to go walking and grazing. when here sister, aunt mary was here in july, nothing was ripe and mary was real disappointed
Got called in on four hours notice to conduct Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade tonight in a rehearsal. What a forking rush!
It’s ok now.
Pawlenty was on Colbert, so the sensation has passed.
I don’t know anyone here at LLN all that well, but you always seem to have something in the hopper that is more than a bit politically interesting.
hey et — how forking cool! why such short notice?
fork
spocko, i didn’t see ya come in. my apologies. what do ya think the odds are that #3 will come to fruition?
fork — i did it again — can ya tell that it is my ‘monday’?
Thanks. I’ll tell you about it.
i saw he was gonna be on and switched the channel before i lost my appetite.
I suppose all that’s left for him is a Senate run or an appointment to Obama’s cabinet.
Tai Wai Li, the conductor, had more problems recovering from minor surgery than he liked. He’ll be OK.
I’m fading fast, though, in central daylight time.
i suppose its too much to hope that he fades into obscurity…. he really isn’t any good at being a politician…
tis good that you were able to step in and conduct the rehearsal for him
I pitched this nonprofit on the idea of inviting the NY Fed board member to bring her other board members to neighborhoods hurt by foreclosures.
Nite Suzanne and pups, too hard to keep the eyelids propped here. Sleep tight all.
great idea spocko — when will ya know if the pitch was accepted or not?
g’nite nonq
I caught that. Very, very nice. Thanks and goodnight. I’ll check back.
He adopted a touch of the crazy in the campaign and got his ass handed to him. So a touch will not do the trick – you have to be full-on non compos mentis.
He’s a perfect pick to compliment Geithner.
Suz ! Newt ! ET ! Spocko !
Did I miss anyone ? *g*
petro! how goes dood?
It was a real rush. First rehearsal of the season, so we were all sight reading. I hadn’t seen a copy of the score (the music the conductor reads from) in 35 years, and the one I was given was a copy of a copy of a…..
Some new, young talented players in the orchestra – the Anchorage Civic, so that was really good to see too.
Petro – got a bunch of celli to play in 6/4 this evening. Major breakthrough for some of them.
sweet and holy moly! was it like riding a bike after a very long time or worse?
The long weekend saw a wild swing of weather. Friday & Saturday saw us top 104F whilst last night it dropped to 50F. And there was lotsa Rain & Lightning …
So, we’re having Rum Toddys tonight … who wants some ?
dude
there was some meditation conversation earlier, i was thinking of you
Fantastic ! Kudos to all of you … when are ya gonna upload it ? *g*
Ooooh … which thread ?
me please — i’ve been having those wild swings down here and was freezing all day no matter what the thermometer said
*Stuffing a frothy mug of Toddy through teh toobz for Suz*
More like riding a bike after a long time away and having to let go of the handlebars and climb up on the seat as it is going down a slight incline.
I really loved having the opportunity. Most of the ensemble hadn’t ever played in Scheherazade before. It is one of the icons of late Romantic orchestration, and people were getting pumped throughout.
*slurping loudly* thanks dood – whew, that’s toasty warm
so both you and the orchestra were learning to let go — what fun!
tis about time for me to head off pups. thank you for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
g’nite all
Diary yesterday I think. Will try and run it down.
Thanks Dood, I’ll check back later today.
I’d better hit the hay, it’s 3:30 here … G’nite all !
nite petro
nite suz
me, too
