| By: Phoenix Woman Saturday August 6, 2011 8:00 pm |
Hello, Late Night crew! This is Phoenix and I’ll be your tour guide on the Good Ship FDL tonight. Mind the paintwork! Last week I referenced the, ahem, delicate situation of one fair-haired lad by the name of John Hinderaker, better known to us as The Man Formerly Known As Assrocket over at the PowerLine [...]
With Obama’s Giordano Bruno-ization of Dr. Charles Monnett in Alaska, We See the Merging of the War on Science and the War on Whistleblowers |
| By: EdwardTeller Saturday August 6, 2011 7:00 pm |
Two more organizations, neither from Alaska, have joined Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility in search of more transparency in the Obama administration’s pursuit of Anchorage-based Polar bear expert, Dr. Charles Monnett. Greenpeace US and the Center for Biological Diversity sent a letter on Thursday to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, and White House Office of Science & Technology Policy Director, Dr. John Holdren, raising their grave concerns that Dr. Monnett is being pursued as part of a political agenda.
Grasping at Straws on the Economy |
| By: dakine01 Saturday August 6, 2011 6:00 pm |
So, I guess it has been a rather eventful week in the world economy and the lives of the Beltway Village Idiots Politicians, Pundits, and Courtiers. I’ll let Paul Krugman and Jane Hamsher do the honors of eviscerating the Standard & Poor downgrade of the US credit rating but do want to add my 2¢ in agreement that supposed neutral arbiters who sold their souls and “independent analysis” for the banksters crappy mortgage based securities should be well advised to STFU rather than interject themselves politically.

FDL Book Salon Welcomes John Gibler, To Die in Mexico: Dispatches from Inside the Drug War |
| By: Sam Quinones Saturday August 6, 2011 1:59 pm |
Mexico’s harrowing drug war is not a consequence that many thought would accompany the country’s long-awaited and admirably accomplished transition from a one-party state in 2000.
But there it is. By 2011, the war has been raging from four to six years.
I can’t keep count; long ago the numbers overwhelmed me. What is it now? 35,000 dead, and rising every day.
Bank of America Death Watch Update: Lawsuit in Washington, Elevated GSE Claims |
| By: David Dayen Saturday August 6, 2011 1:25 pm |
It’s not just Eric Schneiderman. Bank of America faces a new lawsuit from the state of Washington, whose Attorney General, Rob McKenna, is a Republican.
The case involves ReconTrust, a foreclosure trustee that forecloses loans serviced by BofA and is wholly owned by BofA as well. McKenna argues in the court filing that ReconTrust has “failed to comply with the procedures of the Deed in Trust Act in each and every foreclosure it has conducted since June 12, 2008.” That’s pretty unequivocal.
The Secret Of O’s Failccess |
| By: Eli Saturday August 6, 2011 12:30 pm |
Hey, remember all those Obama supporters who used to tell us that what looked like weakness and cluelessness to us was really cunning eleventy-dimensional chess moves designed to outfox the Republicans in the long run? Well, they were sort of right…
